Saw Matthew Sweet on this tour at The Beacon Theater in NYC in 1991(?) with The Indigo Girls (they had the same manager). They sold out several consecutive nights and I went and saw at least 4 of the shows. This lineup of Sweet's band was INCREDIBLE! One of the best live touring bands I've ever seen and they played the song lineup from the Girlfriend album just flawlessly. Oh, the great 90s memories when bands were up and coming a mile a minute. What a fabulous time to be alive and to be a music fan!

Incredible guitar work by the late Robert Quine, who had the innate ability to lay down the pyrotechnics and push it to the absolute limits whilst (tastefully) staying within the confines of the Power Pop genre. In the hands of a lesser guitarist, this could have easily descended into mindless guitar wankery, but in Quine's hands it is absolutely sublime.

Saw him live and he's one hell of a guitarist. The place was packed in the 90's but too bad you never hear of him anymore. He ALWAYS has his car on stage with him too...Very different

      Anthony Quinn was an Actor.
      Robert Quine is the Guitarist.
He played on 2 albums with Richard Hell & The Voidoids.
In the early 1980s, Lou Reed drafted Quine to join his group. He appeared on The Blue Mask (1982), widely regarded as one of Reed's best albums.
Throughout the 1980s, Quine made appearances as a session player on records by Tom Waits, John Zorn, Marianne Faithfull and Scritti Politti.
Quine appeared on They Might Be Giants' 1994 album John Henry, and he also worked with pop songwriters/singers Lloyd Cole and Matthew Sweet during this period. Sweet's biggest hit song, "Girlfriend," is anchored by Quine's frenetic, squealing guitar work.
After the death of his wife Alice in August 2003, Quine died by suicide due to a heroin overdose in his New York home on May 31, 2004.[17]

Every now and then, a song is just perfect. If I had no Idea who it was, I would record it and keep close. Believe it or not, Eric Johnson said he wrote "most of" Cliffs of Dover in one try. If you love guitar you know, that is a perfect song. I wanted to smack him but, God bless him for being so amazing.
