Great video, although I do have one correction. There is one niche case where excitement can influence if a guest rides a ride. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I believe that if a ride is at least a certain number of meters tall and also has at least 8 excitement, every guest will always know where it is, making it easier to find. I have gotten this wrong in videos myself as I only found out a few months ago. Park maps help guests navigate by allowing them to look ahead more junctions. Pathfinding is all about junctions in RCT2 and maps increase their vision.
Thanks a lot Marcel! Oh wow, I had no idea about that at all, that is extremely niche! This game continues to amaze me with all those little details like that. Thanks for pointing that out! Thanks also for adding in those notes regarding the park maps.
This sounded like yet another myth so I had to look at the source code, and it is indeed found in /src/openrct2/entity/Guest.cpp line 1902. I'm not a programmer but it looks about right. It seems like it takes into account the highest drop height rather than than the ride height though. (On further consideration I don't know if those could be different values though...)
@@zornor I feel like they would, I guess it depends what the reference height is, I think it would just be base height (as opposed to relative height off the ground), not sure if this is shown anywhere though. Highest drop height can be seen in the stats
Will you do a video on how double paths work? (if they even work at all?) I remember that in RCT 1 all paths were made as single paths. But in the expansion, there are double paths and I think it says somewhere that guests can navigate them.
I remember being under the impression that mowing lawns was essential for having a tidy park, then subsequently having to always uncheck the mow lawn task xD
when I was a kid I believed that toilets will help the guests to feel less nauseous. now that I think about it, I always had some angry guests. but after a few years of break, coming back thanks to Marcel's video popping up in my feed, I learned so much from just a few of his videos that now I barely even have just neutral faces in my parks. I also don't struggle anymore with most of the scenarios. so weird how just a few information can change the gaming experience. shut out to Marcel and everyone else who helps gamers with these videos
They are if it means each ride will be at full capacity with a complete load of passengers at the ready. If tvs or entertainers are placed in those long queues, they act like “happiness recharging stations” so they’ll be more likely to buy things and ride rides outside their preferred stats.
One misconception is that a full queue meaning a ride is profitable. What matters more is guests- or profit-per-hour, which can sometimes make a queue appear more empty. I and many newer players thought the go karts were money-makers since you can charge a lot and its queue is always full, but it's actually just low-capacity and slow.
Ah that's a great one that I definitely should have included - good call. The Go-Karts in particular I feel need calling out as somewhat overrated due to those points you brought up, maybe almost worthy as a myth on their own!
I once thought flowers drying out had a negative impact on your park rating, so whenever I did use them I always made sure a handyman could get to them. I also used to think a handyman was the only way to water flowers.
Ha, me too! I also thought the same regarding unmowed/weeded grass. I believe in RCT1/RCT Deluxe handymen are the only way to water flowers, I think rain could only 'water' flowerbeds once RCT2 came along.
Well thank you very much for checking out the video! It's interesting that the algorithm recommended it for you even though you've never seen an RCT video before. You should consider giving RCT a go one day! It's super fun :) Thanks again!
Very nicely put together, I enjoyed spotting all your different works in the montage too! The one about station brakes failure resonated very strongly. I was always putting brakes in behind the station, well before any considerations of realism.
Thanks! I thought it was a good chance to show off a few things! :D The station brakes failure is definitely a strange beast! Even if external brakes don't help, I'll still put them in for realism, and just because it feels right somehow
It's been one of those things that was bugging me for years, so I wanted to put some research into it and figure out what the heck was happening with it haha
In Roller Coaster Tycoon 1, I always thought that putting Ice Cream stalls at the exits of Roller Coasters would lower the guests nausea and prevent them from vomiting. Nope, turns out they just have to sit on a bench.
Awesome video! Loved the editing and the way you visually demonstrated each misconception. I had no idea that a "station brake failure" applied to all brake runs! Always fascinating to learn more about the little intricacies of this game.
Thanks very much! Definitely inspired by some of your recent work in applying some of the visual demos, I think it helps reinforce concepts, and saves a lot of dialogue on occasion too. The 'station brakes failure' is a weird one, even now there's a few forums where people swear that regular brakes will solve the problem but I'm still yet to come across on occasion/coaster type where regular brakes aren't affected. It's an interesting case for sure! Thanks again!

I believe secondary brakes would still function during Station Brakes Failure in RCT 1.0, but by the time either the first or second expansion was released, that was changed so that SBF affected all ride brakes.
That's really interesting, and perhaps explains why a lot of people do indeed think that non-station brakes aren't affected. I wish I had a copy of the RCT base game handy to explore this further. It's also quite puzzling that the functionality changed in the expansions, perhaps it simplified coding? Seems like a strange thing to 'remove' from the game, and I guess is one less reason to justify adding brakes to your coaster. Anyway, thanks for sharing this!
Hahaha I'm glad you caught that! It was a little project I worked on a year or two ago and thought it would be a fun little easter egg to throw in. Thanks for noticing!
Have you ever played RCT classic on tablet or mobile? I want to create realistic parks like yours but it seems like the mobile version is far more limited compared to whatever version you are playing on. Wonderful work by the way! Patience is a great virtue.
Thanks very much! I haven't myself actually, but I have a few friends that do play on tablet/mobile. I am pretty sure you would still get access to the same sets of scenery pieces/rides/attractions as PC versions, I've just heard (and seen) that it's a bit more fidgety and less user friendly, but still possible. There's a (albeit currently inactive) RUclipsr 'Coaster Monkey Studios' who built some really impressive parks in RCT Classic using Ipad. I would recommend checking some of their content out for some inspiration if you haven't already. I've also got footage in this video from RCT 1/RCT Deluxe, Vanilla RCT2, RCT Classic, and OpenRCT2, OpenRCT2 definitely has some features that aren't available in the others (even for PC users). Hope that helps! Thanks again
@@RaffyTaffy14 Exactly. I use RCT Classic on mobile. It’s tiny and more tedious with some more limited options especially with pathing-one pavement type is bound to a particular support type instead of being interchangeable, for instance. But it’s still loads of fun to just have the game again!
Right? I used to always put breaks before Agor/Claustrophobia and Dynamite Blaster and never had a station breaks failure lead to a crash. Like I remember watching one of the trains slow down to 4mph and just bump the train in front with no explosion.
@Coasterman345 oh wow, this could be an error on my part then. The second example (the white corkscrew coaster) was in RCT Deluxe. Was this in RCT1 / RCT Deluxe for you? I wonder if it's possible that it depends on what coaster type you're using. I definitely had this happen with the steel-mini and corkscrew in RCT1, but I didn't do a test it on the steel coaster and mine train coaster. I'll do another test on other coaster types and report back!
So, I just did a series of tests in RCT Deluxe with Agoraphobia/Claustrophobia, and about 10 different mine train coasters with different combinations of brake runs/brake speeds (eg. brakes straight before station, brakes with regular track pieces before the station etc), and a single stand-up coater. They've all eventually crashed due to a station brakes failure. It could be possible that there is a difference between RCT Original (no expansion packs) and RCT Deluxe (RCT original plus CF/AA and LL), but I don't see why that would be the case, however at this stage its the only thing I can point to
I mean, it definitely helps, idk I currently am using the steam version (would've gotten classic and openRCT2 first had I known but least I was able to get some of the extra rides in the game people have made like the tilt-o-whirl and superloop). It also seems very random, like age definitely matters but in "Katie's World" I had a custom looping coaster that crashed for absolutely no reason at random that was new and had really good brakes before and right b4 the station lol.
very interesting with the security guard. does it work the same way with the entertainers? or is that different? i hope to see more vids of you! I really enjoy your vids!
Thanks very much! I believe entertainers work differently in that they have to walk 'past' a guest for their happiness to be slightly boosted, or their queue line waiting time status to be 'reset'. Thanks again!
That's a good point I mistakenly left out of the video - the height doesn't come into play for their coverage area. So that 14x14 tile area is covered regardless of the relative height between the security guard and guests. To answer your question, I don't think putting them in a watch tower would make much of a difference
Depending on what region you're in, its either called 'Dinky Park' or 'Pokey Park'. I think it's the 9th or 10th park on the RCT Original scenario list
Yes! I hadn't noticed that before until I was recording these little pieces of footage! Sometimes the animation isn't as evident as it is here, was lucky to capture the guest very obviously moving over to the bin to drop it off
