Electric Boogaloo Rolling is a severely underrated tactic. Very few people know how to properly deal with it and experienced fighters are just going to sit there and let the opponent roll because they will be under the assumption that they are wasting stamina. In the UFC we have seen combat rolls lead to knock outs. It's just some people look ridiculous when rolling. Because they don't know how to do it effectively. If you have to roll twice to move back 1 or 2 feet you have fucked up.
In a sports setting yes but in a street setting I'm kicking him in the head. If something doesn't work outside of ruled fights it's kind of a waste to train.

Obviously you won't do it in the street, but that wasn't the street, it was the Octogon, a sport setting.

The roll was surprisingly effective he was in a bad position with his back to his opponent and managed to turn it into an effective and safe escape which had he not done the roll he probably would have been hit with something serious.

Right! I didn't even know what a McDojo was when I started training. I studied Zen Karate first, which was a combination of TKD, Shotokan, jiu jutsu, and kickboxing wrapped up into one. It was based entirely on the kickboxing ring, and was a amazing foundation for me to begin my training. It also had the kata's and traditional side with flashy kicks, but they were explicitly taught to us for the shock factor for martial arts demonstrations and the like. However when I relocated across the country I wound up at a WTTU/ATA taekwondo academy. And soon found out what a McDojo was. The students are not taught how to defend against nor take a punch to the face/head, which is the primary strike thrown in a fight. That was a huge red flag to me. Then they started trying to teach me one/two-step self defense techniques, as though they had to be performed a certain way. In my Zen days, we were taught the importance of turning your head based on this choke, or defending your neck in this way, and then given free reign in how to dismantle said attacker. With heavy emphasis on stunning disabling strikes (groin/eyes/throat) followed by aggressive stomp finishers. McDojo's make me said, because I was already 10 years into my training when I joined the WTTU, and I had only ever achieved a brown belt by that point. I was astounded to learn that from white-black belt in the WTTU/ATA you only really neaded 3.5-4 years. Black belt used to mean something to martial arts, it meant serious dedication because if someone was a 4rth or 5th dan, chances on they had spent upwards of 30-40 years as a practitioner. But as the western watered down bullshido gained traction, I decided to abandon any semblance of traditional martial arts, and am now studying Muay Thai, BJJ, and Boxing exclusively through a local MMA gym. It was a great decision. Not only has it taught me practical application, it has also weathered/conditioned me with what to expect in a fight, and how to maintain a level head while being rocked. There is no substitute for experience, and without testing a martial art in a heavy/full contact scenario, any training is training to fail. If I could say anything to anyone looking to train for self defense purposes, DO NOT train at a self-defense seminar or class. Go to a local boxing, bjj, or muay thai gym, and learn real world applicable techniques.

Princess Morales in street fights its pretty common for guys to go into the fetal position once they get hit one or more times.I hit a guy once and he went into what later me and my friends dubbed the flying fetal position.He flew back and midair balled up.

Ian Loynds believe it or not... i used to do this when i was a lot younger. didnt even know it was an actual thing that people did. id laugh at the bullies and my older brother when it actually worked. being in martial arts now, i wouldnt recommend it.. but it does work more than youd think
I have seen a technique similar to it. It's a lot more aggressive though, basically you place your hip at their knee. It's like taking a baseball bat to someone's knees at speed if they are coming in fast enough and timing is correct. Not a great technique for street though.

Army guy forgot, if the assailant's faster than the vic in a chase, chances are, he/she also has better reflexes and reaction times.
