Aikido faces similar criticisms about its own effectiveness. I believe it is its own victim of ts rigid training system and demonstration which often being criticised as a joke. But I believe every style of martial art has its own merit and good techniques. We just have to recognise what work and what not. And what is for training hall and what for practical purpose.
The point I am trying to make is that I don't believe any martial art style will work IF USED IN ITS PURELY TRADITIONAL FORM ALONE in a competition against a well trained MMA fighter. The last one was what I was trying to say previously

Two things that Xu Xiaodong has taught me, a Wing Chun practitioner:
    1. Wing Chun needs to be applied. Ding Hao looked like he's never been in an actual fight before.
    2. Just because someone has the title of Sifu, doesn't mean it is necessarily reflective of their skill set when their skills are applied in a real fight.
What a lot of kung fu families don't realize is Xu Xiaodong is doing us a favor and exposing the parts of Wing Chun that are weak. We should be listening to the man, not denigrating him.

    • @neutrino78x
      @neutrino78x 3 года назад +1

@Joel 1 it was very much made for such situations.
What you have to remember is that sparring tests INDIVIDUALS not systems.
If I lose a boxing match tomorrow, does that mean western boxing sucks and no one should practice it? Or maybe it just means I wasn't "on top of my game" that day? Probably the 2nd one right?
So why don't you apply the same standard to every other system?
I think anyone saying a given system sucks as opposed to that particular individual sucking should post their age. Probably it's just the younger people saying systems suck instead of practitioners.
With experience in life, you learn that "it's not the car, it's the driver" applies to MANY situations in life.

Form in wing chun isn't for fights its to learn.
Real fights ur not gonna do form shit.
But if you train wing chun with combat sparring and trying in irl combat and adapting what works and how to improve on what doesn't makes the fighter great.

I practiced Shaolin Kung Fu when I was younger, so I have a profound respect for the Chinese Martial Arts tradition. But this over-mythization of traditional martial arts, to the point of stating that they give you superpowers, that they make you invincible I think is ridiculous, and anachronistic. Xu Xiaodong is my hero, now. It was about time someone punched the hard reality on the heads of these pompous assholes. I'm convinced Ip Man and Bruce Lee would agree with him, not Ding Hao.

I was blown away, how sad it is to live in a country like that, very little rights, China has stripped and ruined his life, I think at this point if he wanted to get out he would have to like sneak out of the country and lose EVERYTHING, his entire livelihood would likely be lost the moment he escaped with his family, its probably impossible tho without him losing everything he has worked hard for, I think at this point he stays because he literally doesn't want to lose everything he has worked so hard to build, but to be honest if he came to the US he probably would have a huge following and would be even more successful here.

Complete b.s.! First of all, building up your social credit score is relatively easy. You can feel free to look that one up on your own. Secondly, the Chinese government would be happy if he left. They wouldn't care if he did. In fact, Xiaodong did say that he would love to move to Australia; although, he would probably move to any western country. Notice how there were no takers. No country expressed any interest in him moving there. He would show up in Australia or the U.S. and immediately do the only thing he knows, start hopping online and attacking Taekwondo and Karate schools, calling them "fake" and then getting sued for it. He's a useful idiot only so long as he can make his western fans think that, by beating up older and smaller people, that he is somehow "disproving" the 800+ styles of Kung Fu.
Just look at this fight as an example: Wing Chun doesn't claim to have any mystical powers or to use Chi. The commentators admitted that the guy he was fighting had successfully beaten fighters from other styles. So, what happened in this fight? Did Xu "disprove" Wing Chun? Did he "prove" that the fighter was "fake"? Or did a bigger and stronger man walk through his opponents punches and kicks, and land heavier blows or throw him to the ground? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Here’s my take on wing chun, I’ve never trained it and I don’t hate on any style out there. But most of the wing chun fighters online think they can spar/fight when only training their forms and moves with the wooden dummy. The only way you can make wing chun effective is sparring with tons of people with different styles and derailing off of wing chun a bit while still keeping its fundamentals. I can see wing chun can be effective if used right and having the user adapt their wing chun after hundreds of spars with other styles. I still think that wing chun is dope asf regardless. To me it’s more of an art to stay disciplined, rather than a fighting form.
