Chinese Taekwondo Black Belt vs Fake Kungfu Masters

- We have Zhang Long, a Chinese ITF (Interational Taekwondo Federation) Black Belt taking on some of the most famous Chinese Martial Arts "masters" in the recent MMA vs TCMA debate. Watching with us is professional MMA commentator John Evans of @BJJBreakdown. Let's watch together as ITK TKD black belt Zhang Long (张龙) takes on a Wing Chun student of Tai Chi master/fraud Ma Baoguo (don't ask us how a Tai Chi "Master" is able to train a Wing Chun student). The Wing Chun student is named Zheng Jia Kuan (郑加宽) and apparently he and Zhang Long got into a beef about the effectiveness of Chinese martial arts, so they decided to get into two matches, one for no-gi Jiu Jitsu grappling, the other for MMA ring fighting. Let's see who wins these two matches. After two these events, in June of 2019, during the same mega-event that Xu Xiaodong fought the Wing Chun fraud Lv, Zhang Long answered Kungfu fraud Tian Ye's challenge to TKD. Tian Ye had apparently said that TKD was not practical for self defense or combat sports, so Zhang Long decided to step up as a black belt. Let's see what happens during this match. This is one of our most epic extended features, so definitely let us know what martial arts lessons you learned from watching this.

Hey Jeff, great vid, there is just one thing i wan't to correct, ITF taekwon-do, are diferent from WTF, and we do punch on the face and the body. Im from Spain, where ITF it's not very popular, on my region (catalunya) there is only 2 or 3 masters, which are disciples of my master (Master Francesc Campanya), so i don't really know how it works outside of that, but ITF TKD it's very close to karate shotokan, so a lot of techniques are similar, we do spar, we do punch, leg kick and kick with both shin and foot. At least in my Dojang we do two kinds of sparring, a "realistic sparring" with low kicks takedowns (no ground game) oriented to a more realistic bouts (some of my partners compete on amateur kickboxig fights) and a "competition sparring" more limited to the rules of the semicontact match
¿Amigo, quién es Jeff?
I found a very interesting 1900s wrestling fight with a seemingly real tai chi master vs wrestler m.ruclips.net/video/XQcrOm6ATzM/видео.html

Our TKD guy had some real patience with the first guy for throwing strikes
Yep. Well, guess he's been hit enough that he's conditioned.
That was not TKD.
@@Mr.mallaer You are correct. He is however a TKD black belt, however no TKD strikes were thrown because this is a grappling only match.
@@ZeroFucksLeft It’s like saying, ballet dancer vs mma, but it’s a fight and not dance, so what if one of the fighters is a ballet dancer or a chess grandmaster?
@@Mr.mallaer I mean that leg kick was pretty good. I know that in Olympic tkd they don’t allow low kicks (I competed for years) but my old tkd coach also constantly said that low kicks were the move for a full contact/ street fight so idk.
Clean boxing by that tkd guy too tho.
as a professional kung fu fraud, allow me to explain. when we fight publicly, we don't use any actual kung-fu techniques. we immediately resort to untrained brawler style, because our real techniques are too deadly to be seen by the public.

@@stoopid5555 you missed the sarcasm
That makes a lot of sense, you don't want to accidentally teach the unworthy how to kill people with a touch. I accidentally released my chi once and destroyed a medium sized city... pretty embarrassing actually.
ITF Taekwondo is a much more well rounded and complete art compared to the WTF style. Adding in some Judo and basic boxing would make you a very formidable fighter.
@M T it looks like you have been watching the same videos i have in the last few days.
I think that depends on the master, I learned WTF TKD but my sensei taught me takedowns and boxing as well
Isaac Yeon Oh yeah, for sure. I just meant that generally speaking the WTF style is usually sport/competition focused. I even think having a mixture of ITF and WTF can also be a great thing, the WTF style teaches great kicking speed, footwork, and strategy. That’s basically what I have, a mixture of ITF, WTF, boxing training, and some judo practice.
some ITF instructors around the world actually include proper boxing and basic judo in their training. originally the style has throws and a wide variety of punching techniques, it's all in the TKD encyclopedia. but the average teacher doesn't have those skills taught.
@karate guy it has a lot of hand techniques, the same as in Karate, but it's not boxing. martial art punches are different from boxing for a lot of reasons, mainly; having hand wraps and gloves changes everything.
by the way, Tang Soo Do is not ITF Tkd, they have nothing in common other than both being from Korea.
"Thai Chi?"
"The park thing."
"Oh."
Awesome. That's how I'll describe it from now on. :-)
HAHAHAH :)
It's Dai Chi or Tai Chi. It has nothing to do with Thailand.
I just heard that part I'm lost it cause when he said that I knew exactly why 🤣
In Canada Richmond its the mall thing as you see hundreds of elderly Chinese do it in the early morning at the mall
As far as I know, tai chi wasn't designed for fighting. It was designed as "moving meditation".
I find it hilarious that a kung fu master steps on the ring and just throws basic boxing style punches...
Years of training well worth it, clearly
I don't really get how a fake master doesn't even know the basics of a real fight. It's too much for me
I get your point but there was nothing "boxing" about his punches. He looked like a novice in a street brawl. Like the producers said, he telegraphed his punches. Neither boxers nor true martial artists would't throw wild punches.
None of these people are any kind of experts in Chinese martial arts.
I don't think that guy is a master of anything. I don't think he even trains at all. I that's the truth.
Too often Westerners will watch some dog and pony show like this and then say, "Yes!! That guy was an expert! " Expert according to whom?
According to Count Dante, he's an expert. Frank Dux says he's an expert too.
So, does that mean that they are? I'm assuming that guy said he knows something or other... because he got in the ring. ..
BUT, how much he actually knows.. we've got NO idea.
The first guy charlie zelenoff of china
Deeyamm, he knocked out Roy Jones Sr in his prime and also slayed a dragon, neither of which are bullshit in any way of course! Also knocked out Khabib with one finger
Haha
As the saying goes, “I’d rather spar a blue belt, than a white belt.”
What does that mean?
Jacob Friedman “Someone who’s been fighting for a long time knows how to take it easy and hold back, while also showing proper technique. Beginners haven’t been taught discipline and restraint yet. That’s my way of saying this guy is an Amateur who doesn’t know how to fight by the rules, hence why he kept hitting him one the ground.
@@KarmasAB123 An experienced bjj whitebelt does not have the same level of control and restraint so it more likely to accidentally injure their opponent.
So you spar first a blue belt and then a white belt?
sheogorath You want to spar against someone that knows what they are doing, who also understands the consent of not going all out in a sparing match.
1. My martial art can beat every other martial art.
2. I fight and get destroyed.
3. I lost because the other guy broke the rules and used unfair martial arts.
Refs rear naked game is tight
Honestly, if you are a Tai Chi guy and your posture get broken on first contact, you're either not a Tai Chi guy or have 0 idea on the applications.
Firstname Lastname Rare but exists. Level isn’t amazing because of the number of practitioners, but real Tai Chi looks kinda weird. Check out competitive Push Hands, the rules are kinda similar to Sumo.
isn't Taichi supposed to be like a grappling art before it turned into Old people dance?
TaekwondoPanda Kind of. It kinda is body mechanics and fascia control to the extreme. What you get is excellent biomechanics, which gives you excellent strength efficiency and a very intuitive understanding and sensitivity towards human structure. the ability to connect your whole body at certain angles to generate power that looks almost fake, as well as the ability to manipulate your own structure so that grappling with a Tai Chi person just feels off as he is more sensitive towards your body structure than you and will use it against you.
What it lacks is a complete curriculum to bring these advantages to the ring, not enough live sparring, lack of understanding of submission and conventional takedown techniques, mysticism.. etc
At least, that is my working theory for now.
@@tkaid5247 I train Tai Chi to go along with my Goju Ryu training, our style of Karate uses a lot of in close fighting and the Tai Chi style we train works with with our style of Karate. A great mix. I am well trained in wresting for many decades and learning new styles of fighting is wonderful.
well, that means none of those Tai Chi masters are fit to use Taichi.

ITF Taekwondo and WTF Taekwondo shouldn't be confused.
Taekwondo is taekwondo ,the only difference is what you want while practising it .
@coulibaly moussa The practice for ITF and WTF has a different focus. The forms are different and in sparring WTF focuses on full contact kicks for sport. ITF focuses on hands and feet practiced both semi contact and full contact depending on the sparring rule set at the time which ends up more like old Western kickboxing kicking above the waist. I enjoy both and they both have their strengths and weaknesses but because of their chosen paths they are different. See the following examples:
ruclips.net/video/oJHTW6RcDtE/видео.html - WTF
ruclips.net/video/RlaNFYbB1PU/видео.html - ITF
@@coulibalymoussa7674 Not totally. Kukki style has been highjacked by WTF and tends to have a much greater emphasis on spinning kicks and high kicks. It also has stances which are not really used in Chang Hon. Likewise, sparring-wise, hang Hon has a much greater emphasis on hands.
@@moominpic You are right ,l agree with you but not totally here in Africa we mostly practise WTF taekwondo ,and we fight with all styles of martial arts in street and on ring , l tell you we are Always Victorious .here taekwondo practitioner for sport are kids and children they are chicken fighters ,we adults make it different ,we practise martially for real fight on focusing on strength, power and speed and we use punching, kicking ,elbows even our knees and headbutt ,don't forget taekwondo means way of foot and hands . taekwondo practitioners are tough ,strong like rock .
@@coulibalymoussa7674 I've never seen a WTF practiotioner doing anything remotely close to ITF. Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. The only reason I'm not going to rule out people in Africa somehow practice a totally different WTF than anywhere else in the world because I'm not sure if I've never seen TKD in Africa. But I struggle to believe the federation would somehow tolerate different rules etc, and the rules determine the way people fight. In Europe, Asia and the Americas WTF and ITF are completely different when it comes to sparring. ITF is more like kickboxing, whereas WTF is the TKD of the olympics.
great breakdowns man i just found ur channel kinda lovin it man keep up these awesome fighting breakdowns on these fakes that need to be exposed but the first fight was funny AF
Highkey wanna see itf guy fight some more against some real opponents. Itf done right really gets some more balanced and interesting fighters. They def practice more roundly when its not based on their own tournament as main reason for training.
Yeah. And ITF guy trains BJJ. So it would really be cool to see him put it together.
notice in the third fight how much braver the kung fu fraud gets when the ref is between him and the opponent
Yep. Takes advantage of that multiple times.
@@FightCommentary we do that in my gym but just for the laughts
As a guy who started in ITF and then moved into Choy Li Fut and Tai Chi, this was beautiful to watch. I'm familiar with both sides of the fight here. Tai Chi is NOT a striking system and the fakers deserved to get their arses beat.
Tai Chi IS BOTH a striking and grappling system as are ALL traditional arts. That is a fact. Tai Chi is also a system that's suffered from TERRIBLE instructors..that's also true.
Choy Lee Fut is a good system and is relatively modern but traditional.
You brought up Jake Mace, I would pay a good chuck of change to see Jack Mace in the ring with an actual fighter.
Jake would never get into the ring. His former student sakan lam is very legit though.
man I laughed so bad when that kung fu guy went batshit in the end there
I studied tae kwon do for 15 years and I find it to be a very practical style of martial arts especially when it’s combined with some judo and in my personal experience/studies street fighting (I learned street fighting before tae kwon do, I lived in a bad neighborhood had two big brothers and was constantly bullied at school) anyway I began my in depth study of martial arts to learn better self control self discipline and to better combat my anxiety depression and adhd and I think that is the best way to truly study martial arts. I’m honestly not a fan of competitive fighting but I do find it entertaining to see false martial artists being shown up. False martial artists irritate me more than people that fight for sport.
Just an FYI and it's already been pointed out by others, but ITF Tae-Kwon-Do uses a LOT of punches. Back when I did it as a kid, you basically kicked to close in with your opponent, but once you did, you finished him off with punches and other hand strikes.
Who fights inside a ring with a polo shirt?😅
Bullshido Masters apparently ;)
Anyone who has business after. It's very convenient.
You mean who dances instead of "fight"
@JoyJoe I just thought of Eddie Gordo. Ha ha ha ha!

That tai chi guy actually impressed me with that first takedown
That last fight the taekwondo guy was so checked out and bored, it was like looking at someone zoning out during a workout.
You need to look at pro ITF competitors.
There's tons of ITF guys successful in MMA and Kickboxing. to name a few:
Ignacio Capllonch
Ariel Duende Ibarra
Federico Figari
Keiji Ozaki
Łukasz Jurkowski
Tomasz Barada
Stephan Tapilatu
Exactly
@karate guy well, People are not generally aware that ITF and WTF are actually extremely different.
Although they share a lot of similarities at a superficial glance, when you practice both styles you realize they are completely different things.
@karate guy originally it was a more varied and power based style, but unfortunately nowadays it's basically just turning kicks and axe kicks and nothing more, all done for point scoring.
Kwonkicker is an old school WTF practitioner and he's a badass. but back in the 90's both Taekwon-Do lines were super aggressive and effective.

Maybe from your limited point of view
yeah, AS USUAL again the super mannered kung fu masters who thank to each other after every fight by saying "thanks for letting me win" elbow you in your neck when he has a chanse, attacks you after the fight is over, cant accept the loss, attacks you on the ground in a kickboxing match, punches you after the bell , punches you in the back of the head.
Well that might be because there 'real' martial artist claim the TMA technics won't work in real fighting. But in real fighting there are no restrictive rules. So by poking the guys eyes and the guy being unprepared to defend against something not allowed in his set of rules, he kinda shows that BJJ is fake as well.
Before anybody starts shouting, I don't believe BJJ is fake, but it is limited. A trained BJJ fighter might eat a boxer in a one on one, but get kicked his head in by three guys trained in soccer, while the boxer would knock them all out.
@@Diogenes2077 no he does not show it. If they say anything is free the bjj guy would attack eyes, groin and also unprepared. And then kung fu masters would be way more f'd up. So that doesnt show anything.

just to be clear in TKD you practice and use punches. There's a big difference between the sport practice, the one you see on the olympics, and the martial arts training. Any good gym should teach both: the complete martail art and the moves you can use to score points in the sport.
For sure. The wtf tkd dojo that shares a space with my mma gym paid half for the boxing ring to practice boxing in sparring, so there's definitely a difference in sport and general training
that would make it kickboxing

I saw better and more vicious/effective fights when my 9 year olds went at it.
That freeze frame at 19:23 followed by peaceful conversation reminded me some of Guy Ritchie's movies
I trained tai chi for like 6 months. It was after my second deployment and I wanted a way to relax. No way would I try that in a fight... thats absurd.
It is like using yoga to fight
Tai Chi is a fighting art, But it is NOT normally taught that way. Most people who practice it cant teach it as a combat method which is what it is. The reason Yang style does it's training slow is so that you can get the coordination for the moves right. Your teacher has to tell you something like, "This goes first because..this goes second because"..then..once you get the coordination..you can practice it with an opponent/training partner at regular speed.
The slow motion practice is just for learning and making sure you get the little moves right. Like people normally do when they're just learning something.

A guy that knows some muy thai, some tkd/karate, some mma, and some bjj is a force to be reckoned with.
TMA are just too limiting to one's potential. Especially Aikido.
The problem with kung fu and traditional styles is that they don't get modernised. There are "kung fu" style fighters in the UFC and sanda/sanshou is effective but because kung fu is an umbrella term the amount that isn't modernised outweighs the ones that are. It's a shame too because a lot of kung fu styles have unique punches and kicks that if mixed up with a boxing/kickboxing style could be effective, hopefully over the years this changes.
People confuse Inefficiency with originality. in ancient times, the martial arts were with weapons (swords, bow and arrows, crossbows, spears, faction daggers) and the last alternative was unarmed fighting. In ancient China, there was combat against the Mongols and they confronted the Chinese with the Mongolian fight called BOKH, this fight gave a new origin to an ancient Chinese martial art such as Shuai Jiao or Chiao Li. Zhou Dynasty, adopted this fight, even so, the combat was all armed. The modernization of martial arts in programmed fights (challenges) started very late and the strong evidence (records in old photos and videos) was in the 20th century. some styles of kung fu were already obsolete. With China weak, and some addicts to Opium (for me, the British were the first traffickers at that time) and with a selfish empress, who did not take care of her people, it was an easy bait for foreigners, even so, they kept the tradition however, without modernizing, that is, comparing a traditional fight with the times of today (anachronistic) would be unfair because Muay Thai is this Muay Thai, due to the westernization of boxing, Sanda is the same thing, so like Bjj (here in Brazil) the original Japanese jujutsu (Jigoro Kano/ Judo/ Mitsue Maeda/ ), is not the same thing as "Brazilian jiujitsu" (Fadda/ Gracie) which, from my point of view, is somewhat effective than the ORIGINAL! Kickboxing is original .. not (pure)???since it emerged between the clashes of Karate against Muay Thai. o "Is American Kickboxing Pure??? No. The mistakes of these kung fu masters are the stubbornness in admitting that they are old and also the new masters, who do not modernize (weight training, training in partnership with the partner or Sparring, You don't test yourself like Qi La La or False Monk Yi Long and the like) without getting rid of the traditional.
How do you challenge someone to big fights? I'd like to do it too!
Do you guys not use short sleeve rash guards very often in China?
Most people here do.
I’d love to see someone use Tai Chi effectively in a fight, and I imagine it actually wouldn’t be that difficult if the person knew how to fight beforehand. If, say, someone took MMA and then moved into Tai Chi, I think it’d be dope to see that art used effectively.

ITF vs WTF is quite different, I did ITF before going to Muay Thai and it was seriously not that bad, at least 50% punches and actual focus on how to throw them and defend against it. Of course, like all ritualized martial arts it has limitations, but as fancy white clothes styles go, it’s decent. Unlike other traditional MA’s which often are very keen on keeping with tradition, ITF actually tries to develop and evolve.

21:42 FINALLY!!! Someone knows the difference between
ITF and WTF!!! I took ITF for 12 yrs, and let me say.. THANK YOU!!!
ITF actually trains with a lot of hand strikes. Punches, back fist, knife hand, spear hand, hammer fist and palm strikes. ITF even trains in offensive/defensive take downs. They also train in some weapons handling. When people talk Taekwondo they usually mean ATF or WTF which are Olympic style which are %90 kicking. They are for scoring points, not for self defense.
That depends on who trained you in WTF I learned self defense and how to trow punches too cuz guess what, they're allowed in WTF sparring but only to the chest but they're allowed and i learned that and self defense on WTF
My dad trained in ITF for 40 years and taught me growing up, then I joined a more WTF style school recently. I do think our kicks are very strong but I do miss Punching more haha

Hey John aren't you the one who told me to subscribe to your channel a while back, I may need to hit the Bell on your channel I often forget to do that and so I haven't gotten any updates from your channel yet have you posted anything since then?
That was Clinton. But John is going to start posting again on his channel so give him some love too!
Actually on ITF they do throw a lot of punches, just no hooks, super man punch is also very common.
there are hooks in the patterns
Wingchun can work in the street but knowing wingchun does not give you a huge advantage in the ring.
But the biggest disadvantage is thinking you have an almost mystical edge because of your wingchun.
Also if you wanted to see any significant victory it would be because a highly conditioned athlete is using it under completely open bloodsport conditions.
And of course the other martial arts would be aloud to also strike the eyes groin and throat and knee joint as well .
And most so called masters don't actually have the stomach for that .
Nor does the audience or the MMA fighters lol
Correct, you gotta adjust and adapt your opponent's movement and know when to strike, fighting experience is also important.
every kung fu guy just starts spamming overhand rights, when they get into an ACTUAL fight. lol
Props to the "master" at 20:27 for his full tank build tho. 😂
Bullshido lol.....
I love it!!
Yeah that guy would not have done well in a Gracie challenge because in a Gracie challenge there aren't really any time limits or rules you're just going down and getting choked out or arm barred point blank
ITF practioner here I've been training since I was 5 years old.
Taekwondo in a street fight not so practical and that is mostly because of circumstances such as jeans where your fighting e.t.c but if your talking about a 1 on 1 MMA fight I would argue it is amazing,if you practiced for as long as I have kicks are very natural and way more powerful than ifst which leads to easy damage/knockout but if your looking for a very street effective self defense Judo is that way to go In my opinion.
Where I come from, Finland, anything that involves kicks is nearly useless, because most of the time everything is covered in snow and ice, so trying to throw kicks just ends up in slipping. Hard pass for Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Capoeira, all that stuff for street fighting over here.
I’m not the right guy to comment on their effectiveness in MMA though, I only have a few street fights and some minor boxing (about 1 year now) and a long Karate career (a little over 8 years) on me. Zero actual MMA, but I do some sparring with dudes of different martial arts and styles with loose, MMA style rules. Still, even in loose rule sparring I always tend to prefer punching over kicking.
In ITF TKD punches are important. Depending on the school you might train full contact punches to the head.
As a tai chi guy. When I go to a gym asking to spar it is insulting for my opponent/partner to "let me work". I'm not asking to get my ass handed to me but I do expect a realistic test of my experience. Letting people like me leave with a higher level of perceived skill is as much the fault as the sparring partner as the tai chi people.
