- Xu Xiaodong organized a Tai Chi vs Wrestling match at his Bili Tu gym on October 23rd, 2019 as part of 冬哥辣评. In this match, a Xu Xiaodong student took on a Tai Chi representative. The round was supposed to go two rounds. First round was pure grappling and second round would have been MMA rules. However, the match doesn't go to the second round due to a big argument over the rules. Xu Xiaodong then goes completely ham on the Tai Chi people. Let's see what happens. Whose side are you on in this event? Let us know. 冬哥,多谢您打假!

Update (8/2/23): After extensive research, we found the Tai Chi Master. His online name is 唐老推 (Tang Ole Pushhands) and he's pretty known in the Chinese push hands community. So like many of you guessed all these years, Tang's experience is mostly in different styles of push hands (which have all these bizarre rules) making him unable to deal with more free-style wrestling.
Here's a timeline of events to the best of our understanding:
Xu vs Andy Pi - 2003 (Xu discovers BJJ and becomes a MMA fighter)
Xu vs Lei Lei - 4/27/2017 (First MMA vs Tai Chi match)
Xu cries after his social media's shut down and Shichahao (Xu's Sanda school) disowns him - May 2017
Tai Chi practitioners claiming to be from a Chen school try to intimidate Xu Xiaodong in a hotel - May 2017
Xu and Tai Chi Ma Baoguo Arrange Match - 6/26/2017 (Event stopped by authorities)
Xu vs Ding Hao - 3/18/2018 (Fight ruled a draw; Ding Hao says he wasn't given enough to eat)
Xu drives to Tai Chi Zhu Li Xiao's house to finalize rules for match after Zhu challenges him - April 2018 (match never happened)
Xu goes to Kickboxing gym to spar their best and gets hurt - Aug 2018
Lei Lei tries to test his newly acquired kickboxing skills (and fails miserably) - Nov 2018
Xu vs Tian Ye - January 2019 (Birdboxing fail)
Xu's social credit lowered - Early May 2019 (Due to court case with Chen Xiaowang)
Xu vs Lv Gang - Mid May 2019 (The first clown painting match)
Ding Hao rechallenges Xu - Mid 2019
Xu social credit back to normal after apologizing for seven days and paying fine to a Tai Chi Master - Mid 2019
Iron Palm master challenges Xu - Sept 2019 (not November like Wikipedia says)
Ding Hao takes on A Hu and gets KOed - Oct 2019
Lei Lei vs Tian Ye - Nov 2019 (Xu Xiaodong opponents match)
Xu vs Yuichiro - Nov 2019
Wu Tai Chi Master who challenged Xu earlier in 2019 runs away from fight and never heard again - Dec 2019

Why are these kung fu guys so afraid to use their kung fu? Kung fu is good. I don't think they are serious about fighting. These people train as if kung fu was a hobby. You can tell. "Out of shape, no stamina, no control, no power, no awareness, and scared. You can tell they don't really train in kung fu. They play kung fu, like children play. This is depressing to see this happening".
The third takedown looked like a billy goat. Similar to a double, but with the forehead directly in the stomach. With the tail chi guy being so short though it was like a billy goat double ankle pick.

Jim Jones To me, Xu is a real hero.
When the whole nation is trying to beat you in every way, you kinda have to go with over the top attitude like that. Understandable.
As you wrote yourself when whole nation wants to beat you I want to see how emotional will you be. Xu may not fight for televised bouts without facepaint, that's how crazy censorship in China.
The powers that be are the ones making life miserable for him and his family. I'll bet that the Chinese people really like this outcast guttersnipe who is just letting everyone know that the emperor as no clothes.
I respect the fuck out of this guy for what he is trying to do and what he is up against.
Or maybe when you cant out skill an opponent so you have to go rough??!!
Thats the problem with these guys. You come in set rules for skill of an art... Its clear as night and day tai chi guy and tai chi is working.. But mma guy goes rough starts getting dirty angry and is beating the guy purely by being more atheletic lol.. Has nothing at all to do with the art itsself.. Its weird you brainwashed morons dont see that.. I do tai chi.. Screw wrestling lets stand.. Ill stand tai chi.. Ill beat them all.
This Tai Chi guy had some fundamentals at least. These Kung Fu guys would do much better publicly if they saw these matches as learning experiences to improve their Kung Fu rather than as a threat to their existence.

That Khabib shirt foreshadowed so much lmao
Xu is a great showman,hilarious.
Taiji guy did ok considering he is out of shape and older. He tried and i respect that. Unfortunately the constant presure made him tense up thus loosing his song and root. This is a good example of why taiji needs to constantly presure test like it did 120 years ago. Its easy to gain song and root in your taiji class if you practice but it is totally different trying to do it under constant attack from an opponent with different skills/style. Only when you have mastered this can you really be able to start taijiquan boxing, until then you are really just learning taiji and are not ready to fight. I think taiji people that seriously want to fight should regularly visit or join bjj, muay thai and mma schools to experience their skill set , learn and test their own skill seeing what they can pull off. This gives them a better understanding of their art and at what level they really are. This is what some of the taiji guys i trained with in thailand did regularly. It also built great freindship and respect amongst the instructors and students of the different styles.
External to internal. Internal to external.
Former wrestler here. You could tell he had position for some throws and wasn't using them. It's why he elected for a simple push when he was on the side and was under the other guy's center of gravity.
As the taller guy, it's all about the sprawl and the arm drag. Once in a while you can throw a guy either in a bodylock (suplex) or head & arm, but 90% of stuff I did was keeping the other guy away by sprawling or defending / trying get the head or arm. Of course, I knew the single-leg, double-leg, & fireman's, but catching someone shorter who's the same weight class in them is tough.
I did TKD in college; fun and you learn some neat stuff but it's all about points. I got attacked on the street and I wrestled.
I've always been interested in martial arts from when I was a kid; took a class called "basic martial arts" which was mostly judo before I wrestled in HS.
Friend of mine showed me some mu thai; I put it together some with other stuff I picked up. Tried kung fu, but, aside from the weapons training, the most effective part was sparring. Sifu's demonstrating some complicated thing and I automatically turn my elbow and he says "you've had training". Well, yeah...a lot of TMA's are pretty techniques that work against people who know absolutely nothing, and nobody else...
I think I want to see what BJJ is all about, but I'm closer to 50 than 40 now.

The moment I need the rules to somehow save me is the moment I realize that I am the weaker fighter
The problem with Push Hands is that when doing it, there's a lot of instances where you let up on pressure follow specific rules of the "sport." You're not allowed to use excessive force. In a scenario where you have to use it in self defense, I doubt you're brain is gonna switch from passive to aggressive just like that.. It has great concepts that can be "APPLIED" in actual combat, but that's exactly what MMA stands for. Taking what works and making it your own. I hope the Chinese community understands this. This was a message that Bruce Lee tried to teach the world..
I've tried it out myself and I understand that there are tons of rules and restrictions. The most apparent being no touching of the lower body. In short.. IT'S A SPORT!!
Also, in this moment 6:36 you can tell he's proud of his guys. When your coach or master backs you up, it's always a very great feeling. I really hope that kid who sparred doesn't get barraged by hate.
It's like Gracie challenge but with social media and HD cameras EVERYWHERE. What a time to be alive.
Nice one. Thanks! Although I confess that instead of "knee on belly" I kept hearing "neon belly", which had me greatly puzzled for some seconds. What's neon belly and why doesn't the Taiji guy like it? Hahahaha.
This is like in the old-school kung fu movies where the rival master pulls down the sign outside the school and breaks it on the floor ;-) Traditional vs modern MA is really a thing here. I was brought up in martial arts in the 80's and early 90's, the era of ninjas giving way to mixed martial arts and the advent of wider knowledge of grappling. To see this level of anger and vehemence in these TMA vs MMA bouts really brings me back to my first wake-up moments.
When the Tai Chi clowns couldn't hamstring them with added rules they just hung on to the "oooohhhh knee on belly" excuse.

1: Kung fu guys are often talking about how MMA only works under special rules but not in da streetz. But here we see them again begging for hyper-restrictive rules.
2: Wrestling match, so no submissions, fine. But wrestling match so no pins? Yeah, no. Get over the knee on belly, it's perfectly within the boundaries of wrestling.
3: Attempted to ban wrestling in the wrestling match by forbidding single and double leg takedowns ad hoc. This actually is fine for some kinds of wrestling, but if you want to go Greco-Roman, you have to specify that up front. Don't do it only after you realize that you're getting beaten.
4: We always hear how MMA guys in China only fight smaller guys. This guy has at least 50 lbs on his MMA opponent and still got annihilated.
5: Despite this being a tai chi fighter vs MMA fighter match, MMA was banned. All of this person's training in Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing and jiujitsu was forbidden, and a lot of his wrestling, restricting him to less than 20% of his potential skillset, while he had to fight specifically in his opponent's niche. Don't get me wrong, that's your problem if you accept the fight, it's just worth noting that that, in terms of rules, the MMA fighter was much more restricted than the taiji fighter.
The double leg, by the way, was ryo ashi dori, one of my absolute favorites. Most MMA and BJJ guys won't use it because if your opponent can hang on, they can drag you into their guard, but it's super high percentage.

@@dweez05 I think Chen tai chi guys have something very, very roughly akin to Greco-Roman wrestling without the pins. I can't say for certain without (A) knowing Mandarin and (B) hearing the pre-game, but my best guess is that the Tai Chi guy demanded a wrestling match and just assumed it would conform to tai chi's super restrictive kind of wrestling. To an MMA guy, wrestling means either folkstyle (most likely) or freestyle (sometimes), not tai chi, so they would not have been on the same page.

@@elenchus yes, I did some chen style wrestling but the rule was that you could not go for the legs, and you cannot even grab your own hand, so it was more like a limited greco-roman wrestling. The taiji guy was seemingly not understanding the rules. Also, he was so out of shape, I have absolutely no idea why they sent this guy when they have a bunch of fit ones.
I love xu's energy throughout the video
I came back to watch this again. So funny. Wish I commentated with you.
If tai chi guy was more athletic hed probably have done much better
He wasn’t terrible but he was old and fat.
I grew up doing TM and started to really question it when I realized everyone teaching me was either weak and/or out of shape.
Combat requires athleticism
he'd have done a lot better if he learned wrestling
Godammmit, Xiaodong, GODDUMMIT
The Taichi guy can be good or decent if he wants to do these Hardcore Catch/Pro Wrestling Stamina
Complaining and quiting about a Knee on belly? lol?
I didnt realize you had a fighting recuew channel
Where can I go to sign up for this gym
This's not fair guys !! Tai Chi master forgot to wear super power pajamas
Draw
Hahahaha
Awesome video! I laughed my ass off 😂👍🏻. XU IS DA MAN!
Xu Xiaodong shouting reminded me of the Dynasty Wars type chinese films, the badass General rallying the troops 🤣
Awwww!! But knee on belly or chest is my favorite thing to do.
Xu's channel is totally standing on the shoulders of FCB
Xu is one scary dude. His student is scary too. I’ll stay here in my house in IL, so I don’t run into him on the street.
For the longest I thought you were saying "Neon Belly" and I was like "wtf is that some kind of technique?"
Tai chi = worse yoga. Change my mind
Why should we, when we all agree
Yoga is just better, it also doesn't try to pass itself as a martial arts.
Random GuitarGuy lmaoooo I didn’t think abt that
Tai Chi, Xing-i, Ba Gua all have value if you actually cross train in other martial arts and learn to spar. I believe innovators like Bruce Lee probably were into some of the more esoteric practices of chi kung and meditation, and could be partly why he was so freakishly strong and fast.
yoga isn't even a fighting style, its more of a conditioning for the body, good to improve your flexibility. taichi on the other hand is just a dance. not sure if it is a real fighting style in ancient times, but in the modern day, it is a slow dance for old people
The tai chi guy looks as old as me = 50+ but the mma dude look under 30 hmmm..... once again this dude picks on a old yoga teacher n beats them up... so what i say is ... pick on someone u own age n someone who has been trained 2 really kick ass.. not a aerobics coach....
So how did the sticky hands technique work out for you Tai Chi dude?
I need to learn Chinese as there ain't any subtitles on his channel!
Why do Kung Fu masters always have Pot Bellies...
Too much yum cha
I've seen some tai chi vs judo where tai chi did good actually
Tai Chi is under rated. I've experienced good Tai Chi.
@@francoisnel5253 Tai Chi is bullshit!
@@fredbohm4728 Recently our number one commentator here just tested Tai chi. Go to the video " Jerry Liu pulls guard on me in fixed step push hands, Jan Lucanus sport Tai chi push hands".
@@charlesbetancourt7337 Tested? What a load of bullshit! A useless demonstration of Tai Chi on a compliant, non-resisting person.
They should do a sequel, but this time at Tai Chi side's gym.
I’ve submitted...
I mean subscribed.
Wait.
Could it be both?
