  • This is a seminal event in Xu Xiaodong's journey with the Tai Chi community in China. Tai Chi guys of the Chen lineage want to give Xu Xiaodong (徐晓冬) a piece of their mind. In this clip from mid-2017, a group of Chen-style Tai Chi guys (the title says 8, 7 guys and one gal) stop Xu Xiaodong in a hotel and refuse to let him leave until he admits he's a fraud. The video clip shows absolutely horrible non-martial-artist behavior. As much as this channel in 2018 was not a fan of how Xu Xiaodong went about his way of exposing frauds, these "traditional martial arts" practitioners showed very non-professionalism too. Leave a comment below on what you think. Also, Xu Xiaodong talked about this incident here: • Xu Xiaodong vs Tai Chi...

@@Asterion608 You make a very good point but I'd argue that one fighter could potentially beat as many people as his stamina would allow. While this principle would only hold true at the most perfect chokepoint there's still a lesson to be learned about placement and awareness. As long as you don't get surrounded you have a chance of getting away and if you show that you still have plenty of fight in you most people will be hesitant to just rush in. Winning on the street is not about being the last to barely manage to stay upright, it's about making it home safely - Combat is neither fair nor absolute, human nature would rather prod at the enemy force with several metre long pointy sticks or rifle barrels snugly hidden in walls shooting a few rounds before disappearing back into obscurity than commit to an all out assault.

@@billy_mandalay. Also, it's not the martial art, it's the individual and how he uses that martial art, yes there are videos of boxers and MMA guys fighting multiple attackers and win but it's rare, just as most kungfu guys couldn't.
Actually the boxers stand the best chance ( I'm not a boxer but I train with them, I'm mma), kungfu is frame by frame not actual transitions unless you have trained transition. Fighting multiple attackers really only works in movies, you may take out 1 perhaps 2 before you get a boot party.
Even the guys at fight science Wing Chung Academy train in regular boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, and Japanese jiujitsu.
They are arguably 1 of the better kungfu people online and will explain to you why certain things dont work, most fights boil down to boxing, grappling, and wrestling.
If you ever had been in any street fights or prison fights you'd know this, that's why things like bong sao don't really work outside kungfu but say combined with mma, etc... its deadly effective, so much so I added it to my ground and pound repertoire yesterday as we discovered by accident it works in that particular spot.
Before communist China martial arts where very different, it was more like mma mixing sancho, shoot wrestling, and their own version of grappling. After the Communists too power, they didnt want people being human weapons so they changed it to focus on ascetics vs functionality.
If you study mma you soon realize how those pretty moves are actually used. An example is the center line fingers to the throat, as a throat strike its useless, my chin is tucked and you'll never get a chance to use it but let's change that to swimming and pummeling and bam now you see what it is actually used for. It's used to set your hooks in a clinch situation.
Kungfu isn't useless, it's being trained wrong, and that is the fault of traditionalists, martial arts is always fluid, people traveled people see a new move they like they add it in, do you think that Bagua looked like it does now 700 years ago when they where protecting the silk road? They wouldn't even know what these guys are doing.
I can write endlessly on this subject but I'll end here.

@@billy_mandalay. there is a legit answer to why he backed down, it's literally because of the law. Have you seen the articles about xu xiaodong recently? Chinese government has given him the minimum social credit rating because of what he's doing to "disrespect" traditional martial arts. If he takes the bait and goes and fights some people in a fucking hotel (a literal street fight) then he would literally just get thrown in jail.
This is not the age of bruce lee. There are cameras everywhere. You can't just fight people and run away and never hear about it again in 2019. The only place where Xu can legally fight is in the cage, with a referee.
Also, Xu doesn't even claim to be an amazing MMA fighter. his claim is simply that traditional martial arts are next to useless, and even with sloppy MMA he can destroy the so called "masters" who get paid to scam people into thinking they can fight. Should he just fight a 1v1 from some random pack of tai chi guys who confront him in a hotel? Maybe if he does come out on top he'll get jumped by the rest of the pack, then get arrested by the police officers watching nearby. Very smart

As a teacher and practitioner of Chen Taijiquan myself I have also seen this behavior. These Taiji thugs are NOT "traditional" gongfu practitioners as the narrator claims. They are in fact representatives of a huge martial arts business enterprise. These guys are students and/or relatives of Chen Ziqiang, who is the son of Chen Xiaowang's brother, Chen Xiaoxing. Chen Ziqiang is in charge of the Chen Village school of his father's line, and he has a long reputation of making fake matches on Chinese TV (Wulin Dahui shows) in which he allegedly DEFEATS tough challengers, who actually turn out to be his own disciples taking dives etc.
He has an international network of seminars and performances that bank on the Chen family name and the worship of all things Chinese by hapless western sycophants. CZQ also arranged faked "fights" with Thai boxers they brought in and paid to take dives or something, claiming the Chen art was superior etc. Much of the method they employed in such ring events was sanda, kickboxing, and judo from coaches of these arts that they hired to fill the gaps for the actual traditional combative aspect that was lost to the village lines decades back during famine, struggle and political upheaval of modern Chinese history.
I imagine XXD said something accurate regarding the endless posturing and bragging that their teachers display and they are sent as the attack dogs to protect the business, which IS NOT SMALL. XXD has also called out the sons of Wang Xian for the same crap, and they also refuse to face him. These folks, they are involved in a business enterprise. Traditional Chen Taijiquan is not designed for the ring. it can be very effective but unfortunately much of the practical combative aspect is nearly lost and gone. As far as Chen Village schools are concerned it is LONG gone. They have competition wrestling the has evolved under a new ruleset after the 1980's and a set of applications arranged mainly by sanda, shuaijiao and judo instructors brought in to contribute applications where there were lacking. This is sort, not traditional gongfu, which these folks would actually not recognize.
The line I represent is actually traditional. It is not ring sports, and not judo or sanda. I have faced years of public animosity for discussing exactly this kind of fakery, self promotion, and bullshitting. Those of us in traditional gongfu who are not beholden to big business interests and international multilevel marketing scams actually find Xu Xiaodong's stance and bravery very refreshing.

@@Nattapong69You need to apply a little logic and common sense here. Regardless of the background this is a group of guys, how many, 6 of them? So a gang of guys cornering ONE guy, a professional fighter/trainer in a hotel lobby. That is not honorable, nor fair. They did not have the integrity to challenge this ONE guy to a fair and public fight with referee etc. In this situation in China by trying to get this guy (Xu Xiaodong) to fight in a hotel lobby would get him (and probably them) arrested.
6 guys attempt to intimidate and fight 1 guy, yeah they are behaving like thugs. No need to question the use of the word thug as you can see it in action there.
In terms of calling traditional gongfu fake, yes XXD has a big mouth for sure and plenty of things he said were lacking balance and forethought, but the people he attracted who challenged him and lost WERE FAKES. SO he is actually doing a pretty good service by exposing and weeding out the fakes.
He has also clearly called out the teacher of these 'thugs' as someone who talks a big talk and the teacher does not have the courage to challenge him either. Then add to that they sent 6 guys to try to intimidate him instead of a legit fight. Again he is exposing the bullshit here. If that teacher were on the level he could respond with a legit fight, but of course they won't because their business is built upon faked, arranged (thrown and bribed) fights for promotion and marketing. Or of course the teacher could respond with "we are not prepared to get in the ring with MMA fighters because it is outside of our area of focus" but they will never admit that either. XXD is at least honest. These thugs and their teachers, not so much.
XXD is clearly willing to allow them to beat him in a well managed public fight and would accept the results. These folks want to intimidate him and shut him up but they do not want to be in the sunlight in a fight that they cannot pay someone else to lose.

@@Nattapong69 Two friends of mine who are traditional gongfu practitioners (in China) are friends with XXD. There is a public game here, yes, but apparently his friends are not against gongfu. What you have to understand is that practitioners of real gongfu generally support his exposing the fakes.

    • @Gongfutube
      @Gongfutube 5 лет назад +2

@@Nattapong69 First lets clear up a few things you said.
      1) XXD never insisted that anyone wear gloves or what the rules had to be. He just told them to get their teacher to fight him officially, or arrange a fight with one of them officially. Nothing was said about gloves or rules. I doubt XXD would back down from a no gloves fight. Many MMA fights use pretty small gloves anyhow and not the boxing gloves you are referring to.
      2) If the bare fist is totally ineffective in blocking the face that is the first I've heard about it. I could be wrong but I doubt you are correct.
      3) the Wing Chun fighter being self taught means, in the world of traditional gongfu he IS a fake, since he was not traditionally taught. SELF is not traditional teacher, just made up.
      4) Every "traditional" martial artist who has fought XXD and lost challenged him THEMSELVES. THEY bragged about how great they were and challenged him. He did not force anyone to get into the ring, suck, and loose. These delusional idiots are simply volunteering.
Yes, he is offering a service.
      5) regarding rules and gloves and trad. gongfu not being suitable, ok within limits there is a point to be made there, but that does not mean that 6 guys need to gang up on one. That is dishonorable in any traditional gongfu, and they could have just as well asked for a legit fight on their own rules. He probably would have accepted. They are just not up to that challenge and can only talk shit and arrange bought and paid for fights. That is again, what he is revealing.

@@Nattapong69 “…actually punch yourself on the back of your hand, using your knuckles…It is one of the most sensitive areas in the body. It's a target to strike in and of itself because of how vulnerable it is…So little things like this change the game entirely. ”
I am well aware of the vulnerability of the back of the hand, but I am not at all sold on it being worse than the face. Nor I am convinced that exposing the hand would somehow make MMA fighters fail, magically. They already take a lot of pain and continue on.
“As for the rest about the guys ganging up on him. I didn't catch all of what they were even saying….Maybe they think he hired the guys he beat? I don't know what they are thinking. Maybe they went in a group of 6 because they thought he would have friends and bodyguards. They didn't physically attack him in a group of 6.”
If you cannot understand the meaning of publicly confronting one guy with six and physically blocking his exits from that lobby, then no logic or intellectual honesty will work on you. I should not need to try to explain this to you.
“I’m also not sure why you are talking about arranged fights from the Chen Village. Chen Xiaowang has a tai chi boxing team that has won professional competitions against muay thai fighters. There are a lot of good fighters in the Chen Village.”
LOL, ok. I suggest you break away from the sheep and do some actual research. The Thai fighters who participated were paid off it seems, nor were they serious pros. This story is now not new. Not only were these fights fixed, but the Chen village “fighters” were more trained in kickboxing than they were in Taijiquan combative application so your term, “tai chi boxing team” is already inaccurate. It’s a kickboxing team from Henan, wenxian who also perform Taiji forms that are almost entirely unrelated to their boxing/fighting action.. that’s as close as it gets. Some of those guys are shown in this video.

Three completely untrained people are a danger to even the most elite martial artist. Start adding more numbers to that and the threat becomes even more serious. @@Ultradude604 On paper, that's all true enough. But what does Xu Xiaodong have to fear in a situation like this? He gets beaten up badly maybe? His fame will only rise, and those responsible would have a heavy price to pay. Besides which, confidence is not always rational, and just knowing that (a) they were very unlikely to actually attack, and (b) it would be bad for them if they did but no loss to his reputation or pride no matter what probably gave him plenty of confidence.
But we've all seen how little it takes to completely discourage many of these Kung Fu guys who can't take a hit. That's the big difference. It would take a _very_ lucky hit to knock Xu Xiaodong down or out, but only a good broken nose or such to discourage some of those guys and make them think twice. On paper they'd beat him easily with those numbers. But how many of them would have the heart to actually take hits, but also the horrible nature to actually attack somebody in a cowardly way like that? Humans aren't much different from most other animals out there; we love to bluff and play out these little games of intimidation, but mostly we do like other animals and avoid actually harming each other or ourselves.
