So much so that he was able to test out and fine tune his concepts. His concepts were sought out by fighters who did fight professionally and went on to either be champions OR were already champions who added his concepts to their arsenal. There is a great video on RUclips on Mr. Lee's demonstration sparring. You may have seen it, but if you haven't, it is pretty CLEAR by his footwork, timing, angles of attack, tactics, etc, that this guy was NOT the average 'master' who never fought professionally. @@invisiblesouldier6166 Last time I checked, Ninjutsu was not a martial art, or even a fighting style. It is a system of guerrilla tactics used for sabotage and espionage. Shinobi rarely ever fought and were chiefly used as saboteurs or spies. Assassinations by shinobi were also few and far between. Schools taught today (if my knowledge serves me right) don't actually practice these tactics (don't have a direct lineage to it) but practice an immitation of it that has been expanded upon. I wouldn't compare an ancient war fighting system to martial arts, apples to oranges and all.

      Fast forward to 1990s
Garcie beat people only using bjj, because the rules allowed to continue the fight on the ground and others didn't train for it
      Present day
You can't just do that you also need striking abilities
When you can't copy and use stuff from 90s it's self explanatory that except for few principles and techniques we won't be able to use a 400 year old art in exact form.

actually the "pigeon method" works like this:
when pigeon about to fly away, their claws or talon or whatever feet toe part clench naturally, so if you push your finger into their claws, they'll hold onto your finger, making it unable to fly
so the concept is that taichi is about going with the opponent's flow and counter or redirect their blows to somewhere else, and if you can match/sense pigeon's movement, it shows your ability on taichi to a certain extent

I lived in China for many years and I will tell you this: This video encapsulates the Chinese Collectively and Chinese Culture/Cultural Pride in a nutshell. Xu Xiaodong must be given all credit for his genuineness and fearlessness. He is one of those many rough diamonds among the Chinese masses. When it comes to themselves, the vast majority of Chinese are vain, boastful and prideful. Even though everyone else knows their claims to be either fake, over boastful or just plain, deceitful, hot air, they won't pull them up about it because of "face". When reality shows them to be wrong they won't accept things as they are. They are not humble or truth-seeking, but double down on the falsity and then promote censorship and a false narrative to try to confuse the issue. Of course the Government-controlled media made a meal of Xu - he is the very thing they hate: an individual with guts and who not only sees when the Emperor has no clothes, but is not afraid to say so. He is a threat. Alas, speaking truth to power in China will always have the same effect - the destruction of that Individual by Chinese Society.

@@NinjaTheEvan it is possible that it was merely hyperbole, used because he knew no one there who knew of it. He can’t be expected to know what a billion other humans know anyways, and it is certainly true that China would wish to have as little overt western influence in their culture right now as possible. For that to be limited in the public domain is expected under their current regime, and the demonizing of MMA as foreign influence does sound about part for the course. Why would such a narrative permit its subject to become widely familiar to its people?

Do these people not understand that MMA isn't a slander on traditional martial arts , it's the strongest fighting style becouse all it is, is a combination of the most effective techniques from all other martial arts so some mma fighters may use a struck from tai chi. There only a few styles that can be used in their purest form to beat an mma fighter and thats karate, muy tai, jujitsu and wrestling, and even then most mma fighters practice these martial arts the most. All I'm saying is traditional martial arts isn't bad but it's never gonna be better than mma.

All martial arts have limitations and the MMA guys who have a strong base and pick up other styles shine the best. We can’t assume because someone does MMA they cannot fully know a specific art.

That’s the most accurate description of Xu Xiaodong “MMA Activist”. He would benefit from adopting this term more than making fake claims about his role in “China’s first MMA” match. He was on the wrong ideological side.. he probably expected to win against Andy Pi and that would indicate that he was poorly briefed about MMA or just brash. Looking back, Andy Pi was probably told that Xu Xiaodong was absolutely no threat. His students at the time were much better Sanda fighters and would’ve had enough BJJ skills to take an easy win against Xu. I guess Andy wanted that low hanging fruit...
