Rolex have never been a movement perfectionist. The Daytona, and their watches in general have personality and looks. Hublot is fugly. If you are going to sell an overpriced ugly watch, then your movement better be a work of art. You don't get that with Hublot.
Current Daytonas use the Caliber 4131 movement which is excellent and made by Rolex. You can justify current Hublot with yesterday's Rolex. That makes zero sense.
My Hublot is pretty awesome. It really feels special and has alot of cool features. I got a near 8 inch wrist so the King power carbon fiber oceaonagraph fits great. It can also go down to the titanic if it wants at 4k meter rating. You would never do that but it is still just a cool feature.

I actually like their Fusion Classic. Clean and sporty design. There is some stigma with Hublot. I used to live in former USSR - many oligarchs and corrupt politicians were wearing brands like Hublot and Ulysse Nardin.
I own a Spirit of big bang and i love it. El Primero movement, titanium case, ceramic bezel. I disagree when people generalize Hublot owners. I am a highly enthusiastic watch fan and I think my Hublot feels right at home between my IWCs, Omegas and Rolex.

I held the olive green dial chrono from them and wore it at the dealer while talking to him about other brands. It felt amazing. The weight was nice, I didn't notice if the screws were aligned or not. But that olive green, it turns black, slightly purple, leather brown, as you turn it in certain light. It was amazing to see.

Hublot is one brand I could never get into and I felt like that for about 15 years. I'm more into traditional style of watches .Doxa 300,Longines Ultra chron, Sinn 144stsa and older Rolex like that pre ceramic and pre super case size Submariners
The HUBLOT hate is stupid. They were the first brand to put a rubber strap on a gold case. They were first brand to make a watch out of sapphire (case & bracelet). They were the first brand to introduce a removable strap.
I saw the Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire in the wild at a cafe in Zurich last TUE. A guy sitting at next table. It made a positive impact on me about Hublot, but then I moved on.
It's more due to the clientele it appeals to - Just like Rolex users, rarely are they "Iove the watch for the artistry/virtuoustic craftsmanship" but more of "people NEED TO KNOW I am a successful entrepreneur and hip af" Rarely have I seen Hublot and Rolex fans able to explain any resonating reasons as to why they adore the watch - the first thing they mention is either the price range or how "rare" it is. The best and most convincing reasoning I've come across is "I just liked the design" Since many of the fans come across shallow, the brand image of Hublot and Rolex is also shallow to me...
One concession I'll make to Hublot: their Unico Flyback Chronograph movement penetrates a price bracket where seemingly no one else is making flyback chronos. So at least in that one area, they're providing decent value.

So many of their watches just look like cheap garbage in person. But then they make a watch movement like in the meca10 which looks lie it's built from erector set pieces or they make an 18k ceramic gold that's highly scratch resistant. Of course after doing these things they put each in like 2 watches then forget about it. They do also some crazy ultra high-end watches with neat concepts like the la ferrari. Normally here I'd then critique the la ferrari because it's unwearable but we are in a post 50mm rolex diver world..

Yes, Hublots received scorn before Nico. He just raised the level many notches as a catchphrase to get buzz about his channel. I like the Hublot spirit of big bang. Some say it's an affordable RM but it's in gold and titanium or titanium and steel. RM usually works in ceramic or more exotic materials. Their colors are much more playful and it's a totally different style of watch. And no saying anything tonneau shaped is a rm homage is just plain stupid. Tonneau shapes have been around since before Franck Muller even started using them.
Interestingly speaking, I am an engineering ug student, got Heuer, IWC, Omega, UN, JLC, and Hublot in my watch case, Hublot has absolutely the trashiest finishing. The reason why I wear Hublot most is that my peers wear CASIO the most, and the Hublot for most of my friends is just a better CASIO, nothing more. And I can't be any happier with that. Not to defy or promote Hublot. It's a cool watch, but hardly a good watch. If u think it's worth this price, then go for it. If you want to uplift your taste, runnnnnn! :)
Hublot is cool and I’m not afraid to admit it. Most people that I have come across who hate the brand have never even seen one in person before which is rather comical. Hublot just focuses on a different type of clientele than what most of your traditional enthusiasts are and I call them a party brand. I give Hublot credit for being the first brand to put a rubber strap on a luxury material watch, setting a world record for a manual wind tourbillon, and creating Magic Gold which is a scratch proof 18k gold. There are far worse things in life to hate than Hublot.
Big, tacky and overpriced, Hublot watches are typically what tasteless nouveau riches are wearing in Europe when they can't get their hands quick enough on a Rolex Daytona.

There is nothing in the Hublot stable that interests me at all from an aesthetic standpoint. I get the "modern design" but simply it's not my thing. I think the biggest issue with Hublot for me is its popularity and association with a "type" of watch owner and collector that is best summed up with "more money than sense" and "style over substance". It's funny that you mentioned Nico giving T&H a shoutout in a recent video. During Nico's reaction of Henry Golding's watch collection reveal with GQ where he praised Golding's watch collection as substance over value, with each watch having a rich, meaningful story behind each. As you pointed out, Hublot doesn't have that history, heritage or legacy which is important to watch collectors. For me, that's what makes Hublot nothing more than a super expensive fashion brand for TikTok, IG/YT influencers, and Twitch models. A quick special thank you to Christian for turning me back onto vintage watches. Most of my current attention has been focused on vintage (mainly 1950-1960's) Seiko, Grand Seiko, Omega, Oris and Rolex. My love for vintage watches started when grandfather passed down to me his 1952 Rolex 6085 18K Oyster Perpetual. Keep up the great work with the videos and podcasts! 👍

I personally do not understand hate for most brands. I think there is nothing wrong with Hublot. I would never buy one because the prices play in a range I cannot afford. But I feel this same way about the holy trinity. I can only afford up to a Rolex and even then just one. So as a mere mortal I would want a watch with high brand recognition that I enjoy if I am spending that kind of money. But if I had hundreds of thousands to just burn, there are many brands I would consider.
Hublot watches definitely are priced similarly to Rolex. And their quality is far inferior. Save yourself the trouble and just go buy a Rolex Explorer if you're considering any Hublot around 4-6K.
I really do not like Hublot. I came to this decision by myself. I don't like their look, their movements, or their marketing practices. I have been experimenting with sticky black plastic. Much like the instore advert (Swatchshills?), I got an Hublot, and covered it one sheet of this black plastic film, and to be on the safe side, I covered my eyes, also. This guarantees that I can never see the Hublot, which greatly cheers me, but then I have to bring little bits of plastic, to cover the eyes of any friends that I meet throughout the day, to stop offending their eyes. Worried I might be snapped by a press photographer in the street, and to stop the shame leaking out that have been seen wearing one, I have made some sticky black plastic camera lens covers. But apart from that, a brilliant watch. Apart from deciding who I leave it too? My kids will hate me I I chose them!!!
Nico didn't help Hublot's marketing. But neither did Hublot. After all, they are in charge of their own narrative and story with the public. The public can trash your design language. But that is design. That is purely subjective. But ETA movements are ETA movements. And I frankly think they're very robust, and tunable, and good. Are they as good as in-house movements that Hublot might or could create? I have no idea.

That being said, the key is at the end, with what is good being overblown and having to look elsewhere for value. GS is an obvious choice but there's Fears, Kurono Tokyo, and Glashutte Original just to name a few. I'll appreciate Hublot's 5% just for this video, but there's plenty out there worth 100% already.

It seems the company is very scummy, even worse than other luxury watch brands, which is saying something. And also, they use cheap crappy movements in their watches which they sell for ridiculous prices. The brand is definitely not for people who like watches but more for people who just want to put an expensive weird thing on their wrist to flex out wealth. What they end up doing is advertising how little they know, or care about watches. No amount of ads, brand ambassadors, or paid influencers will ever make that brand a thing among watch collectors.

But I would like to make a constructive criticism to the video: - I found the video unnecessarily long, the discussion was to start with almost 10 min of video; - I also thought that you did not go deep into the issue of the brand always seek to innovate in their watches; Again, I always follow your videos, I like the content, just exposing here my opinion.

I must confess that some of the classic black dial Fusions in gold with a rubber strap does tickle my fancy. Even if it is both quarts and a hublot.

Yes, Hublots received scorn before Nico. He just raised the level many notches as a catchphrase to get buzz about his channel. And Nico is probably in denial that he is an example of the typical Hublot owner - fat, loud, potty mouth. I love is channel - his knowledge and love of watches - but he’s more Hublot than R or AP.

The movement inside those watches incite every bit of hate. If I can get the same movement on a 300 bucks watch, then there is no justification for Hublot costing thousands of dollars. Hublot is luxury without engineering.

The whole Hublot copy paste hate talking points are just watch hypebeast stuff. "They copied Royal Oak and Nautilus" ... Hublot V1 in 1980, Nautilus in 1976? Nautilus was 4 years after Royal Oak? Who cares at this point? The movement...ok, so running a El Primero movement (which, btw, a Daytona ran for years) at half the cost of the Royal Oak movement and then charging 1/4 the price of a RO is somehow just completely outlandish? I know a lot of people who own Hublot (ftr I don't at this point) who are incredibly understated and just love the piece...has nothing to do with flex. Please tell me that the guy at the pool wearing a classic fusion is generally a bigger bag than the guy wearing a RO Offshore with baguette pave. Anyway, solid video...enjoyed the points. The Hublot convo is just silly at this point imho.

I like the Hublot spirit of big bang. Some say it's an affordable RM but it's in gold and titanium or titanium and steel. RM usually works in ceramic or more exotic materials. Their colors are much more playful and it's a totally different style of watch. And no saying anything tonneau shaped is a rm homage is just plain stupid. Tonneau shapes have been around since before Franck Muller even started using them.
I just can’t get over the misaligned screws at that price point. My G-Schocks are aligned.
Interestingly speaking, I am an engineering ug student, got Heuer, IWC, Omega, UN, JLC, and Hublot in my watch case, Hublot has absolutely the trashiest finishing. The reason why I wear Hublot most is that my peers wear CASIO the most, and the Hublot for most of my friends is just a better CASIO, nothing more. And I can't be any happier with that. Not to defy or promote Hublot. It's a cool watch, but hardly a good watch. If u think it's worth this price, then go for it. If you want to uplift your taste, runnnnnn! :)

Almost bought that Titanium Aerofusion thing a few years ago for around $10k. Hublot has some great watches they're just a bit overpriced.
Hublot is cool and I’m not afraid to admit it. Most people that I have come across who hate the brand have never even seen one in person before which is rather comical. Hublot just focuses on a different type of clientele than what most of your traditional enthusiasts are and I call them a party brand. I give Hublot credit for being the first brand to put a rubber strap on a luxury material watch, setting a world record for a manual wind tourbillon, and creating Magic Gold which is a scratch proof 18k gold. There are far worse things in life to hate than Hublot.
Big, tacky and overpriced, Hublot watches are typically what tasteless nouveau riches are wearing in Europe when they can't get their hands quick enough on a Rolex Daytona.
@@pinkbono I beg to differ. I have both and bought my Daytona at retail and my Hublot at a 30% discount from an AD. I would argue that more people are paying over retail for Rolex which is overpriced than people paying anything close to sticker for Hublot.

There is nothing in the Hublot stable that interests me at all from an aesthetic standpoint. I get the "modern design" but simply it's not my thing. I think the biggest issue with Hublot for me is its popularity and association with a "type" of watch owner and collector that is best summed up with "more money than sense" and "style over substance".
It's funny that you mentioned Nico giving T&H a shoutout in a recent video. During Nico's reaction of Henry Golding's watch collection reveal with GQ where he praised Golding's watch collection as substance over value, with each watch having a rich, meaningful story behind each. As you pointed out, Hublot doesn't have that history, heritage or legacy which is important to watch collectors. For me, that's what makes Hublot nothing more than a super expensive fashion brand for TikTok, IG/YT influencers, and Twitch models.

Most of my current attention has been focused on vintage (mainly 1950-1960's) Seiko, Grand Seiko, Omega, Oris and Rolex. I personally do not understand hate for most brands. I think there is nothing wrong with Hublot. I would never buy one because the prices play in a range I cannot afford. But I feel this same way about the holy trinity. I can only afford up to a Rolex and even then just one. So as a mere mortal I would want a watch with high brand recognition that I enjoy if I am spending that kind of money. But if I had hundreds of thousands to just burn, there are many brands I would consider.
Hublot watches definitely are priced similarly to Rolex. And their quality is far inferior. Save yourself the trouble and just go buy a Rolex Explorer if you're considering any Hublot around 4-6K.
I really do not like Hublot. I came to this decision by myself. I don't like their look, their movements, or their marketing practices. I have been experimenting with sticky black plastic. Much like the instore advert (Swatchshills?), I got an Hublot, and covered it one sheet of this black plastic film, and to be on the safe side, I covered my eyes, also. This guarantees that I can never see the Hublot, which greatly cheers me, but then I have to bring little bits of plastic, to cover the eyes of any friends that I meet throughout the day, to stop offending their eyes. Worried I might be snapped by a press photographer in the street, and to stop the shame leaking out that have been seen wearing one, I have made some sticky black plastic camera lens covers. But apart from that, a brilliant watch. Apart from deciding who I leave it too? My kids will hate me I I chose them!!!

Nico didn't help Hublot's marketing. But neither did Hublot. After all, they are in charge of their own narrative and story with the public.
The public can trash your design language. But that is design. That is purely subjective. But ETA movements are ETA movements. And I frankly think they're very robust, and tunable, and good.
Are they as good as in-house movements that Hublot might or could create? I have no idea.

I dont get the Hublot margins comments? Are they steeling R&D and such. If they are making watches in switzerland to the same level as the others you mentioned Idk how theyd have crazy margins. I mean arent most high end sought after watches raking it in because they dont market much and charge crazy prices because they can? I believe Christian mentioned it about Rolex about how much watches cost to make. Id imagine that would include marketing as well. They market less than car sales and manufactures and thats a car. Think people are over blowing their stance out of proportion here lol nothing wrong with admiring 5% of something, especially when that 5% is standing out for good reasons.
That being said, the key is at the end, with what is good being overblown and having to look elsewhere for value. GS is an obvious choice but there's Fears, Kurono Tokyo, and Glashutte Original just to name a few. I'll appreciate Hublot's 5% just for this video, but there's plenty out there worth 100% already.

I went to hublot AD. I dont liked any of their design. Just sorry. Then i discover nico then learn that their movement is same as the lower end watch is a big no no for me. But i am a little bit giving them a chance now because i heard they have in house movement now.

It seems the company is very scummy, even worse than other luxury watch brands, which is saying something. And also, they use cheap crappy movements in their watches which they sell for ridiculous prices. The brand is definitely not for people who like watches but more for people who just want to put an expensive weird thing on their wrist to flex out wealth. What they end up doing is advertising how little they know, or care about watches. No amount of ads, brand ambassadors, or paid influencers will ever make that brand a thing among watch collectors.
