    Really like this episode. We're all bombarded with YT videos telling us how great and incredible the flavor of the month is. But it's rare to find a video talking about the reality of having a demanding princess handcuffed on your wrist day in and day out.
    I accidently dropped my watch 3 ft on to the floor once and had to send it in for repair. It made me understand Kikuo Ibe's quest to build a G-Shock.
    Funnily enough, I never remember my dad or grandfather having to take off their watches before doing something like chopping wood or hammering. They never took them off except when showering or going to bed. And they almost never sent them in for servicing. I wonder what the difference is between modern watch movements and back then. Maybe it's not the movement but people's expectations that have changed. Neither my dad nor grandad gave a shit if their watch was off 5 min a day. They'd be like, "why don't you just reset your watch everyday and stop obsessing about it?" Ahh, those were the days, when people had so little to worry about 😂

    • @sinesaii
      @sinesaii Год назад +3

      They totally took them in for servicing. Go talk to old jewelry store guys. If they did not have a watchmaker, they sent the watches to a guy who did nothing but service watches. Winding stems broke all the time.
      Now, Timex and the like were disposable, so they were not serviced (they had no jewels and were not serviceable). But normal watches were absolutely serviced. Not only that, but toasted and televisions were fixed, clothing was patched, tools were fixed, pans were patched and polished,…, we used to NOT be a disposable society. We must return to our grandparents’ ways.

    • @astorbeijer9424
      @astorbeijer9424 Год назад +1

      @@sinesaii Yes, they took them in for servicing. I remember my grandfather doing it one time. I said "almost never" because it was maybe once in 20 years.
      What I'm curious about is were movements actually more durable back then because the parts were made from higher quality metal or something? Or were my granddad and dad just less picky, so that as long as the watch was running they didn't care if it was "a little broken" or needed servicing.
      And your right, I remember my grandmother would take in small electronic items (toasters, shavers, TVs, etc) to a local repair shop every now and then. My grandparents never threw anything away. The repair guy would keep them and use them for parts if he couldn't get the item working. But that was during an age when companies built products meant to be repaired and used for decades. Getting society back to that time would require governments ensuring that companies built better products. First, we would need better politicians who aren't corrupt and already bought by those companies. We might as well wish for unicorns and and marshmallow rainbows.

    I was out running at night, and hit my Pelagos on a massive steel post in an alleyway. I really hit it hard, and there was one hell of a clunk. When I got home, there were metal shards everywhere. I must admit, I started imagining the huge bill! But I got a needle out and pushed it through each of the grip grooves around the bezel, and in the end, all the metal had come from the steel post. There was a bit of a small mark on the bezel, and the case, but this has disappeared over time, with general titanium wear and tear. What a watch!!!

    BTW, it's not the best clients who get the allocation. That's how they phrase it, but what they really mean is the client they know will let them buy it back at cost after 1000 miles, so then the dealer can mark it up (bc Porsche doesn't let that happen, so you see tricks from Porsche dealers like that and also you will hear the car is MSRP but you have to pay $3000 for a paint coating to buy it)

    Totally agree about making a portion of LE watches available to people who haven’t already dumped a bunch of cash with the brand. My first serious watch was the Omega Speedmaster 60th anniversary LE, and I called the boutique the morning the watch was announced. I expected them to put me at the back of the line because I had no buying history, but I was put at the top of their list and got the watch a few months later. I was very appreciative that Omega welcomed my interest, and didn’t play so hard to get.

    You seem to forget that most people aren't into watches, so just because someone wants an awesome car doesn't mean they want a 13k watch they've never heard about just because it matches the car from the same company, right after going through a list and choosing between extra equipment that they actually want for the car that they're excited to buy. Be sure, just because someone is rich doesn't mean they're frivolous.
    Fun video though, keep it up guys!

    What a coincidence. I was actually wondering why would a microwave oven produce strong magnetic fields. And I remember to test mine today. It doesn't. I've tested in every way.
    I'm not saying that you're wrong, some might have some magnets to hold the door closed or something but strong magnetic fields are not inherent.
    Mine produces a max of 0.6 Gauss. Nothing to worry about. Both of my earphones' cases emit 20+ Gauss, when measured at 0 distance. Now that's something that could affect a not particularly magnetism resistant watch.
    Anyway, it's much easier to have fixed that damage due to shock or water ingress. Don't even have to open the case.

    Even if your Rolex crown isn't screwed down, it's still water resistant. The thread of the crown only offers very limited water resistance. It's the seal behind the thread that actually provides the lion share of the water resistance. The screw down crown stops you from accidentally pushing the crown when the watch is submerged, that's about all it does.

      30M in a static pressure environment (as in 30 bars of pressure from water) vs swimming around in a pool where the water pressure is dynamic & random are two very different things. it’s hopefully/probably/maybe fine, but risking hopefully/probably/maybe with a breguet seems like a bad idea to me

      @@rasmusblomberg7373 Wrong, to approach the level of dynamic pressure that could affect your watch is impossible for a human. Plenty of posts and calcs written by physicists if you search the watch forums.
      Also, when a serious watch brand says that their watches are water resistant to x m they mean x m as long as the seals are fresh. Of course it doesn’t hurt to occasionally have a watch pressure tested.

    Your next car (if you can get one) is the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser! Dodge/Jeep are not the most reliable and BMW’s are a nice ride but all the electronics eventually start going, one sensor at a time. No one touches Toyota! Beautiful and literally built to last! Check out pics of the Land Cruiser.
