How do you get to option S? I repeated the video a dozen time and cant figure out how to add open option S or create another node. seems easy but I am having a difficulty following.
Hi! You can right click on any existing node and then the pop-up menu should give you an option to 'Add Node', then select Add Serial. Or you can go to the Color menu at the top, then Nodes, then Add Serial Node. Hope this helps!
Hi! You can use the same technique but adjust your exposure as well as whether the inside of your power window or outside of your power window is effected.
How did you add yourself as a guest in the video?? do you have a video teaching how to do that? Also I really like the pace in your videos as it makes it easy to follow along, some youtubers RUN through their videos and you can't keep up or understand what they are doing!
It is weird I go through all these steps, but then when I click back to the edit button and play the clip nothing changed. I have studio 18 full version.. Any ideas? Sorry I think I figured that out, my box node wasn't connected with the line.. But now I am having problems when the face went out of frame then back in.. Do you have to cut the clip and do a separate thing again. Won't track when goes back on face after went out..
Hey! Yeah, Resolve will loose the track if it goes out of frame. You could cut the clip and see how the works or you could just manually adjust the tracking for that section of the track.
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you! Appreciate your video.. I know this is off topic this video.. But do you have a training video on how to record your computer screen onto a camcorder or camera? for video?
Hi! I'd just make a mask in the color page with a blur effect and use keyframes to animate it. Or you can even use an adjustment clip in the color tab, apply the blur effect and keyframe that. Lots of ways to do it. 😜
How do I have the blur effect only appear for part of the clip? Or should I just make a "cut" at the spot of the video where the object I'm blurring moves out of frame?
Maybe you need to add another key frame. So one at the beginning with it off. Then another frame where you want it to Stewart to turn on but that key frame will also be with it off. Next move ahead a frame or as far as you want and then turn it on. It should stay on. Also make sure your key framing the correct node and item within the node.
I am also trying to blur out two faces of people who are having a conversation. However, I notice to run the tracking, you have to select a specific window. Is there no way to track them both simultaneously?
Hi! Nodes are how you do thinks in the color tab and fusion tab. It's kind of like layers. If you want to blur both faces, you need to have 2 separate nodes and track each person in their own node. Here's a video that will help you out with fusion a little more: ruclips.net/video/FUTzxeVqMpI/видео.html
Just to learn i was trying to blur a sumo wrestlers nipples. Using the method you show i can create one node and blur one nipple but creating another node and repeating the process does not work. Why is this?
Hey! so the object i'm wanting to blur eventually will go off screen. How do I "Resolve" (no pun intended) that? because the blur effect stays on the screen after the object im tracking goes off screen. would be much appreciated!
Hi! You would use some keyframes to move the blur off the screen when you want or you can use a keyframe to turn the blur off. I've got a video on Keyframes in the Color tab that will help you if you're not sure how to do that. Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for responding. I just went ahead to the Black Magic Design's support forum where I saw someone else having the same problem with the OpenFX menu not displaying. My problem is now solved 👍
Hi Jason, thank you for your amazing video. I just wondering, in the first clip, you and your friend, can we blur both of you? Or we just only can blur one person in a video? Sorry for my English.
@@JasonYadlovski Hmm..In my case, when I tried to blur the second person, I can't use the rectangle again. Its just stick to first face. I only can move the rectangle to the others face. In my video there were 2 or 3 face that I wanna face blur. I hope you get what I mean 😅
I got ya. You have to make new power windows. One for each face. You may even need to put one power window on a node by itself. Then just give the same but settings to that node. Hope this helps!
I am trying to track a person and blur their face for an entire hour video... do I need to allow the tracker to run through the entire hour before it finishes?
Yes, but you might want to make a few cuts in the clip so it's not so long. Less of a chance that resolve gets hung up on something or looses tracking points.
Great tut, Jason! If it's not too much trouble, would you please move the mouse pointer a little slower when going over to a different spot on the screen? That way I won't have to search for it because it got moved too fast. Thanks again.
Thanks! I'll keep the mouse speed in mind for future videos. I think the New Jersey speed got to my mouse! haha! 😆 Thanks for watching! I appreciate it! 👍😁
Is there a way to do this without “Color”? It takes a ton of time to switch tabs on davinci resolve and it would not be efficient to have to switch back and forth all the time
Hi! You need to mask things out in the Color tab or in Fusion. Why does it take so much time to jump into the color tab? It's just one click. 😜 Sounds like maybe the computer needs some more power...🤔 Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski it’s a laptop lol. Idk why but it freezes and goes unresponsive for a couple mins. I have an i7-9750h and an rtx 2070 so idk why. Is there a way to allocate more ram to davinci resolve or does it takes as much as it needs
If you go into preferences, you can set how much ram and GPU you use. Are you on the free version? If you are on the free version Resolve will use mostly CPU power and very little GPU. If you were on studio you can make full use of your GPU and it will run much better.
Hi! You can use key frames if you want. Or you can have the blur on an adjustment clip and then just end the clip whenever you want. You could also just make a cut on the clip that has the blur so that once the blur clip reaches that cut in timeline timeline the blur will go away. A bunch of different ways you can do it depending on your situation.

Hi! Are you using the sharpening section in the color tab for the blur? Or maybe you have to adjust some settings in the but FX?
@@JasonYadlovski Hi! Thank you for your reply! I have double checked and I definitely have it on the blur option. I have also tried dragging mosaic blur ect onto it and that hasn't worked. I may have to check out setting or something as I am not sure what is happening
@@JasonYadlovski I just tried on a different file and it is working, so may just start fresh on a new video and hope it continues to work! Thank you for your help!
Great! Sometimes files get out of wack for some reason. Glad it's working now!
Jason I see your list of equipment did you forget the screen guard in front of your Blue Yeti. I like it if you can provide a link I will happily buy from your link.
Hey Mark - Looks like I did forget to add it in there. Here's a link to it: geni.us/BS0YIB I think it was on sale when I got it though. I've got a whole video on the pop filter if you check out my channel. Thanks for stopping by, checking out the video and using the link if you choose to. I appreciate it!
Thank you! X3
You're welcome!
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you, Ill give it a try.
So how do I do that but select the specific times I need certain blurs at.
Hi! You’ll need to add keyframes to it. Here’s a video on it: ruclips.net/video/ITQbB2jMx0k/видео.html
I'm definitely using the combination of this and the voice changer in a montage.
Awesome, sounds like it would be a cool video! 👍😁
Great tutorial, but instead of blurring the object out how would you spotlight the object? Thank you and awesome split screen effect too. 👍🏻
Hi! You can use the same technique but adjust your exposure as well as whether the inside of your power window or outside of your power window is effected.
@@JasonYadlovski Jason, thank you ~ Paul
So I've read somewhere that adding a new node is optional. I've been blurring with one original node and it seems to do the job. Why add a new node?
How did you add yourself as a guest in the video?? do you have a video teaching how to do that? Also I really like the pace in your videos as it makes it easy to follow along, some youtubers RUN through their videos and you can't keep up or understand what they are doing!
It's just layering 2 video tracks, then masking each one where needed. It's actually not that hard, but I don't have a video on it yet.
how do i set the times the blur is on or off
Hi! You’ll need to key frame the blur effect.
How do you do the OPTION command? i am using a PC and new to Davinci. What is the keyboard shortcut or button for this OPTION?
Use the Alt key instead of Option.
But do you have a training video on how to record your computer screen onto a camcorder or camera? for video?
hey, make a video on explaining blurring texts when scrolling down and blurring time fixing, please
Hi! You can make a cut or you can use keyframes. Here’s a video about keyframes in the color tab: ruclips.net/video/ITQbB2jMx0k/видео.html
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks! Took me a while to figure it out, but I figured out where to turn the blur effect off and on, and just used key frames.
How do you blur more than one subject in one clip?
Hi! You can use multiple nodes and or multiple power windows.
@@JasonYadlovski Yeah, I figured it out, lol. Thanks anyway though 🙏🏽
😁👍
This was so useful! I wanted to ask what a node is and why we would need to create a new one specifically to add a blur?
I am also trying to blur out two faces of people who are having a conversation. However, I notice to run the tracking, you have to select a specific window. Is there no way to track them both simultaneously?
Hi! Nodes are how you do thinks in the color tab and fusion tab. It's kind of like layers. If you want to blur both faces, you need to have 2 separate nodes and track each person in their own node. Here's a video that will help you out with fusion a little more: ruclips.net/video/FUTzxeVqMpI/видео.html
@@JasonYadlovski Great, many thanks for your help!!
You Got it!
Just to learn i was trying to blur a sumo wrestlers nipples. Using the method you show i can create one node and blur one nipple but creating another node and repeating the process does not work. Why is this?
Strange, that should work....🤔
Very good video
Thanks!
Hey! so the object i'm wanting to blur eventually will go off screen.
@@JasonYadlovski thank you! That helped a lot!
You’re welcome! 😁👍
How come after I add a node and set my circle, nothing happens when I hit Open FX? No menu appears.
Which tab are you in? You should see the effects there…🤔
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for responding. I just went ahead to the Black Magic Design's support forum where I saw someone else having the same problem with the OpenFX menu not displaying. My problem is now solved 👍
@@eatyourgmos7260 Also idk why but appears to work after just clicking in "LightBox" 2 times then when clicking on OpenFX will work fine
Hi Jason, thank you for your amazing video. I just wondering, in the first clip, you and your friend, can we blur both of you? Or we just only can blur one person in a video?
Sorry for my English.
Hi! Thanks for watching! Sure you can blur any part of the video. 👍😁
@@JasonYadlovski Aaah, I see...
Thank you so much for your help 🙏
You’re welcome! 👍
I am trying to track a person and blur their face for an entire hour video... do I need to allow the tracker to run through the entire hour before it finishes?
Yes, but you might want to make a few cuts in the clip so it's not so long. Less of a chance that resolve gets hung up on something or looses tracking points.
What if the movement so fast i tried but the power window doesn't follow the movement correctly can you tell me what am doing wrong?
You might have to manually track the object frame by frame if resolve is t able to keep up with it.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks ill try it. your channel is helpful i turned on the bell ^^
Awesome, thanks! Glad you find it helpful! 😁👍
@@JasonYadlovski ❤️ 👍👍
1:49 where is that key at??????
Are you looking for the option key? Maybe it’s the Alt key if your on PC.
Jason Yadlovski thanks
@@JasonYadlovski I am on the free version. Also thanks, I’ll use this
Like Like 100x like! Very nice video!
Thanks! 😁👍
How can you end the blur. I want to blur it for sometime not on the hole video.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks I have been going through your video there is nothing like this on there please can you do a video about it?
You’re welcome. I already have a video about keyframes in the color tab, that’s how I would do it. Here’s the video you can check out: ruclips.net/video/ITQbB2jMx0k/видео.html
Thanks
hello, good video but how to keyframe the position of the circle? the circle is moving out of my object every couple 30 seconds. I would like to recenter it. But than the whole clip gets a new center
You can try to track your subject, that way the power window moves with the subject.
@@JasonYadlovski thank you for your answer. I will try in a couple hours. So I should at first use the tracker and later I can link the power window to the tracker somehow?
You put the power window on the frame, then use the tracker in the color tab. The power window does the tracking.
@@JasonYadlovski ok. Then the circle is moving out of my object after a while. When I move the circle to correct it in the middle of the clip, it doesn’t match at the beginning of the clip anymore
So I‘m curious how to correct it as it progresses through the clip. When I make a change it messes up what it has done so far
I don't have this Window, there's just "Motion Effects", "RGB Mixer", "Color Wheels", "Color Match" and "Camera Raw". Are you using a specific version of Davinci Resolve 16?
Hi! Which Window are you looking for? You might check the Workspace menu and there are options to turn on the various headings across the top of the screen. I'm using the regular DR16 in this video. It should be similar in DR17 as well.
I have a problem with it. I want it for a certain amount of time in the clip but idk how to do that
Hi! You'll have to add some key frames. That will allow you to make the blur start when you want and end when you want. Thanks for watching!
What if I want to blur multiple faces?
Then you can use multiple power windows in separate nodes.
I erased the node that was there and now I can not do anything, I can add another node but can not activate the circle. Please help
Sounds like you might have to re-do it.
@@JasonYadlovski after saving what I had, I just started from beginning. Lesson learned thanks for your time.
Bummer that you had to start over but I’m glad you’re able to continue with the project.
When I do this ALL of the "colors gets deleted" and its back to RAW and just the blurred area is color corrected
Hi! Sounds like you tried to do this effect on the same node you have all your color grading on. You need to make a new node and try putting it on the new node.
