Thank you for the information, it proved very useful in my case. I have a question regarding two aspects I have seen in your video: the first is at 06:00 when you want to focus on a certain area of the screen and you do it by using a red circle and making the rest of the screen darker and the second is at 11:47 when you again focus on a portion of the screen and you take it out and make it larger. Are those two effects done using Da Vinci Resolve? And if so, which are those? Alternatively, what program have you used? Thank you!
Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! The effect you were referring to is done in a program called Screenflow for Mac. It is the software I use to record my screen I my tutorials. If you’re on the Mac I think it’s a great screen recording software.
Great video! Very helpful. Curious what software do you use to highlight your mouse and or the functions in DaVinci Resolve? I produce some training videos for work and that feature would be very useful
Thanks! I do the highlighting in my screen recording program, it’s called Screenflow and it’s only available for Mac. It’s a great program, I’ve been using it for a long time. 😁👍
When you use the noise reduction on a clip rather than on the whole track you can also stack them. I had very good results by using two instances of noise reduction on a single clip. It removed the noise entirely without making the voice sound weird.
Many thanks J. Beginner to all this sort of thing making videos of Historic Army Aircraft. Noticed a nasty hiss over the top of engine sound and killed it ASAP thanks to your vid, much appreciated.
First time Resolve user. This is great! Is there a way to paste my final EQ and NR settings to other audio clips I import? Being a longtime FCPX user, I don't see any "Paste Attributes" type edit command in Resolve.
Hi, thanks! Yes, you can select your clip or track, hit Ctrl C to copy, then select your new clip, then go to the Edit menu at the top, then Paste Attributes. You should be able to use a keyboard shortcut too. You can also save your settings as a preset and then apply the preset. I've got a video on making presets if you need it. Thanks for watching and best of luck!
Of course, you do a great job with these tutorials. I honestly haven’t had very good luck with noise reduction in Resolve. I’ve tried the methods you highlight here with mixed success. What I’ve had really good success with... I run separate audio using a TASCAM DR-07X recorder. I’ll run that stand alone audio track through a couple of passes of the noise reduction effect in Audacity. That seems to work very well without adding any abnormal artifacts like you mentioned (the things you can’t describe). I was trying to process all audio in Audacity but the Compressor and EQ in Fairlight is a lot more user friendly. On my next video I plan to do the noise reduction in Audacity and use Resolve for everything else. Also have a bad habit of tracking video in OBS using my Blue Yeti and having noise gates and compressors and EQ n the chain during recording which makes post very difficult. I need to have a checklist or something to keep me from shooting myself in the foot all the time. Hah. Sorry for the long post, it may help some folks that aren’t happy with the noise reduction in resolve if they have heavy background noise. That Audacity noise reduction effect is excellent for a free tool. Thanks for making these videos! They’ve been very helpful!
PLEAS PLEASE PLEASEEEE MAKE MORE DAVINCHI VIDEOS. Davinchi is getting popular and there are too little tutorial videos on it. Please make some more! I love your content. Keep going!!!
Hello Jason, thanks for your videos! Those and your replies in the comment section are helping me alot! Is there a way to apply those effects/changes only to parts of the audio clip, without cutting it into pieces and putting them onto new audio tracks? In on of your videos I saw you using keyframes to adjust the gain on a portion of a clip, but I couldn't manage to do something else with that portion. In my example there is a plane flying by and luckily most of the noise was during a prolonged pause between sentences (using a gate on the whole clip fixed that). For the overlapping part I cut out the section and adjusted it manually on a second track. But I can imagine that this becomes quite messy and confusing if you want to apply a whole lot of different effects on parts of your video.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! Most of these things are done on a track level. You can apply them to specific clips, but I don't think there is a ways to keyframe it in. You'd have to cut or break the clip where you want to use the effect and where you don't want to use the effect. Hope this helps!
Super helpful video!! Just started a gaming channel and am new to all this. Was editing one of my videos and could hear my very loud keypad clacking away in the background 🤣 used the dynamics and it took care of it no problem!

If you can swing a Blue Yeti, that's my studio mic and it's awesome. There's a link in the video description. It's around $100 give or take depending on what one you pick. But it's a great value and great quality. I have reviewed some other budget mics, check out the gear playlist on my channel. They are more in the $20-$50 price range. Hope this helps!

Awesome! Thanks for checking out the video! Be sure to check out the video I just released today about the noise reduction effect in DaVinci Resolve for more info.
Jason, I find that ear buds allow me to hear a lot of the audio detail as well as pricey head phones, given how concentrated the sound from the ear buds is (e.g., the ones that come with an Apple iPhone). Is this a fine substitute for head phones?
Hi! Yes, ear buds are great too. Pretty much anything is better than most computer speakers. For me there is a big difference when listening with headphones or earbuds vs just the computer speakers. Thanks for checking out the vid!
Hi Jason, i really enjoy your content! Surely but slowly getting into editing using DaVinci Resolve. I have some GoPro footage with seperated wind audio, i was wondering if there is a way to filter out the wind noise of the main clip with the help of the GoPro wind sample audio track. Perhaps with another 3rd party software? I definitely subscribed, i have to learn alot of you, keep it up!
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the quick answer, will try it later! I found out Audiacity has a noise reduction function where you can choose a track or just a selection, but that didn't work out so well with wind noise. In the other hand an external microphone might be the best choice for GoPro's.
@@JasonYadlovski hey i was wondering how is your audio so clear in blue yeti i might chave case of i think my voice sounds wierd but stioll what is the windows volume set to in your recording and also what is your gain set to and do you plan on doing any tutorials on animation
Hi! Left you a message on another comment. I said the gain on my yeti to around 15% or 20%. I’m on a Mac and I have my Mac system setting at around 50%. You want to make sure to keep the gain on the microphone itself as low as possible so it doesn’t pick up a lot of background noise and things you do not want to hear. I also do a little processing in da Vinci resolve to make the audio sound good. But the blue yeti by itself does sound great. Hope this helps, if you need any more info let me know.
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you, man, definitely got a sub from me didn't expect you to respond but you definitely care about your community. I wanted to ask this though kinda wanted your advice on adding the eq at least I feel like it made my voice deeper and I kinda have a deep voice, to begin with not like batman or bane or john wick deep but sorta deep like a tenor. Also, I found that at least for me I feel like the mic sounds muffled ill be honest though I always thought that if I put the gain all the way down and left the mic at 70 to 85 in windows setting honestly highest I'd go is 90 it would sound clear but it sounds muffled, maybe using a pop filter and a windscreen is overkill or im not talking close enough I usually talk a fist away from the mic or is it just the gain ?. Or maybe I might have a case of thinking my voice sounds weird but it doesn't feel clear to me not as clear as yours at least kinda wondering if I'm doing that wrong. An finally you seem to know a lot about audio how exactly would I get my mic to sound like this everyone's voice is different but as clear as the audio in this video ruclips.net/video/spd5QdHIZdg/видео.html it's loud but it's not distorted and clear on what he's saying. it's not too deep yet it isn't to light either So what's your advice on a voice if well it's deeper and what I should do to raise it and what exactly is your distance with your mic to your mouth to you talk a fist away or a thumb away kinda want to hear your advice on it
Awesome! Glad to hear my channel helps you. 😁 that’s a pain with the cars. Best thing you can do is set the mic sensitivity (gain if it has it) low and be close to the mic. Or try and record during low traffic hours. Best of luck and thanks for watching! 👍
Hello jason! How do I go about adding a little more bass into my voice? I have noticed that my Rode PodMic XLR into my CanonM50 makes it sound tinny, metallic sounding, and takes away my bass. How would i add back the bass from my voice? Thanks :)
Hi! If you want to add some bass back, you want to use the EQ to do that. You're going to want to boost the frequencies that are somewhere between 150hz and say about 350hz. Kind of depends on the mic and your voice. I've got a video all about EQ if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/5Rs1XRQSlAM/видео.html Basically you will want to take the Point #2, give it a low Q factor, then just drag the point to about +5 db and then sweep the point back and forth to see where the bass sound that you like is. In the same way, you can grab say point #4 or #5, give it a high Q factor, boost it way up, then you can sweep it around the higher frequencies to find that 'metallic' sound you're talking about. When you find it, drop the frequency gain down below 0 and it will remove that noise. I'd look in the 1K to 2.5K range for that. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

My mic levels are good on the raw audio I was just trying to remove my breath in sounds without having to do it manually for the 500 times in this 1.4 hour video lol.
Nice! Your best bet to try and remove the breaths is to use the expander or the gate which can be found in the dynamics panel. You could even try that in combination with noise reduction.

Very helpful video, yet I have a problem: there is a very faint voice in the background of my footage. The mic is great (Rode Wireless Go), the main dialogue vocals are very clear, but I want to remove very low-volume background vocals (even when I'm talking, which is why the gate may not work). Noise reduction only removes the hissing, not the vocals. Is there a way to clip all the audio that is below a certain threshold while preserving that above it? Thank you.

@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the reference :) However, I tried both gate and expander, but they seem to work only on quiet parts of the footage. To clarify, can I isolate the subject's voice and remove the other background voice? Thank you.

brilliants as always. thanks. got to understand the gate finally.
You’re welcome! Glad the video helped you learn some new things! 😁👍
thank you soo much!! suffering with a a bad cold my breathing is so loud, couldnt find the gate in resolve and this was perfect GG!!
Awesome! Glad the video helped! 😁👍

Awesome! Love the Gate, I use it all the time. 😁👍
Perfect, this is exactly what I needed 👍
Awesome, thanks for checking out the video!
Awesome man, thanks for sharing that info! It's great to hear what works for other people too. I appreciate it! 😁👍
Thank you! Last minute project and you helped beyond words!

So cool, very easy. The gate fixed my problem.
Awesome! Love audio stuff. Not too hard once you understand it and can develop the ear to hear the nuances. Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski thanks for the quick reply and clarification.
Thanks! The High frequence part of the eq fixed the winning sound..

Thanks, great video! It worked ok but looks like I need better speaker. Can you recommend me the best budget friendly speaker ?
You're welcome! Are you looking for studio monitor speakers or headphones? Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski I'm recording my voice at home :D Even though your tips are so useful, it cant help me because I record my voice with my phone's headphone. So I think it's time to buy a microphone but I dont have a big budget to spend for it. Any cheap and quality (of course for its budget) microphone recommendation?
If you can swing a Blue Yeti, that's my studio mic and it's awesome. There's a link in the video description. It's around $100 give or take depending on what one you pick. But it's a great value and great quality. I have reviewed some other budget mics, check out the gear playlist on my channel. They are more in the $20-$50 price range. Hope this helps!

Great video!!! How do i seperate certain audio from a clip? for example im editing a gaming clip and i want to eliminate background gun fire in order to pick up what a person is saying.
Thanks! Unfortunately you can’t do that in Resolve. You need something more advanced isotope.
On Fairlight Page > Effects > Drag Noise Reduction to Audio> Check Auto Speech Mode. See if this helps

Thank you so much, this helped me greatly!

Hi! Thanks for checking out my videos! You can try using the ‘learn’ feature in the noise reduction plugin right in Fairlight. It might work.
An finally you seem to know a lot about audio how exactly would I get my mic to sound like this everyone's voice is different but as clear as the audio in this video ruclips.net/video/spd5QdHIZdg/видео.html it's loud but it's not distorted and clear on what he's saying. it's not too deep yet it isn't to light either
So what's your advice on a voice if well it's deeper and what I should do to raise it and what exactly is your distance with your mic to your mouth to you talk a fist away or a thumb away kinda want to hear your advice on it
Thanks! My flux capacitor has been driving me crazy! Haha!

@@JasonYadlovski Thank you so much Jason! One more question! Do you know if we are able to make social media animations within the free version? I currently have made one just using the text and title options, but wasn't sure if I could somehow add in the social media logos as well! Thanks a lot.
Sure you can make anything you’d like. You just need the images, etc. Resolve doesn’t have them built in though.
Woah, what a great video, bro! Can you also make another video about how to improve iPhone video quality? I just don't have the best setup right now, and for sure my audio will be better from the tips you gave. So now I just want to know if there's a way to improve the video quality a bit through editing. Thanks bro!
Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words! Which iPhone do you have? I've got the 7 and the video is pretty good. Probably the best advice I can give is to have good lighting. That will make a big difference. You can also do some color grading on it. Hope this helps a bit, thanks for watching!

Noise Reduction is under Restoration now for anyone having trouble finding it.
Thanks for adding that, it did move. I'd recommend Voice Isolation if you've got Studio. It's much better than the Noise Reduction.
@@JasonYadlovski Nice, I am a first time user of the Free version, only making my second YT video currently =D Maybe studio in the future.
Helped me a ton :)

@@JasonYadlovski np :) keep up the great work!
Thank you.
Hi! Yes, you want to use the Gate or the expander. They will accomplish what you want to do. I've got some videos on them if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/H08721S3Z38/видео.html Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the reference :)
However, I tried both gate and expander, but they seem to work only on quiet parts of the footage. What I meant to ask about was: can I remove faint background vocals WHILE the subject is talking (in a much louder voice)? To clarify, can I isolate the subject's voice and remove the other background voice? Thank you.
You probably can’t completely remove it in davinci resolve. Probably need a program like iZotope to really do it.
