I don’t want this to come off sounding backhanded but, Mr Alex, you really have come a long way, over the last couple of years. You come across as much more comfortable on screen. Everything, you’ve really upped your game, and it really shows. Thank you for putting so much effort into it, and then giving it to us for free. I appreciate it. Please keep doing what you are doing.
Hiya Jim. Not backhanded at all, I watched some of my older vids recetly and yeaaah, i've come a long way huh! Haha. But thank you, I really appreciate the kind words. I'll keep going as long as you all keep watching :)
I love how you have multiple examples and do it more than once. It really helps when you’re trying to follow along because you don’t have to really pause and rewind a bunch of times. It’s also nice because then if I’m at your same pace I can do it more than once as well and by the time the video’s over I’ve got a pretty solid foundation with this skill. All that to say, great video 😆🤙🏼
man, low key kicking myself with a smile haha First of all these examples made it easy as hell to understand and secondly, the me laughing part, is because it's so easy to make what used to be very complex (for me complex anyways) titling or what have you and now its just here for us. Allows us to be creative and do more. Appreciate this, will like and subscribe to see more!
Fantastic. The best demo of the Depth Map tool, yet. This new feature could not have come at a better time. I’m working on a short film where I want to add a thick fog to an outdoor environment. This will work perfectly. Thanks a million.
Been using the depth map functionality and it totally justifies my upgrade from a Mac Mini M1 to the Max Studio Max. This is just the first glimpse into the power of the new generation of Neural Tools bringing amazing functionality to Resolve 18. It is only going to get better as things get optimized.
Its taken me four months to actually get round to installing Resolve 18 and making full use of this Tutorial. You sir, really are the "go-to" channel for me learning how to do the important editing stuff as quickly as possible. Well, you and Darren really 😀
Alex! I don't remember I ever left a comment on RUclips, but your video was awesome and to the point enough that I couldn't leave without saying thank you!! Thank you so much and keep up the amazing work! 💪💪
This makes me happy that I finally bought the studio version. Well, TBH I was already happy I upgraded because of getting full use of my 5k 360 footage. Thanks for sharing this amazing upgrade.
Wow! Thanks. You walked us through such a super powerful tool, in a fun upbeat way, to boot! Thanks for giving us such a thorough, easy to follow step by step tutorial!
Awesome introduction to Depth Map. Thank you very much. I was even more delighted when I discovered my old MSI GS65 laptop with Intel Core i7 8th Gen + 32GB RAM handled Depth Map with the greatest of ease.
Best case I've seen yet for a reason for me to get the pro version of Resolve. Thank you, Alex, sincerely for all your content! You've become my go-to guru for improving my video editing!! 🙂
Amazing video Alex, my computer is orignally from Scan computers too, i always love there stuff, i was going to get an upgrade at some point too, nice video
I was literally getting ready to start masking something in a bit to blur out the background and this video pops up into my youtube feed. RUclipss getting good.
I color graded my video (Blue Danube) and wanted to add a lens flare but the dancer's arm moved in front of where I put it. I see that using depth map would be one way to solve this but I chose a faster and easier way. I just scrubbed to just before the arm passes in front of the flare and key framed the size to shrink to nothing until the arm passed it and then key framed it back to original size. worked just fine and took 30 seconds to set up. I love how intuitive this program is. Thanks for the depth map explanation. It looks very useful for selective coloring/effects on a broader level.
I believe that a fancier way of making depth maps would be to differentiate subjects by colorizing their depth so it would offer two ways of separating the subjects from their surrounding. I'm pretty sure that separating subjects with an AI would give better quality height maps in the end of the process.
I own DR Studio - TOTALLY worth the cost. I didn't realize 18 was available yet... is this still in beta? I can't wait to start using these new depth map features! Thanks!
Great information, presented clearly. You have a new subscriber... now I'm going to look at your other videos. If they are all this good, I'll be here a while. 🙂
Hey so the bug where the keyframes do not save are still a thing in davinci resolve 18. And I tried to do the solution that you posted a long time ago and I was wondering if you could do another tutorial (Updated version) Because in resolve 18 the work around did not work for me. The keyframes still say they are a mile away from the actual keyframe I put on the timeline even though I did the Instructions in the tutorial.
Hello, absolutely love the tutorials, when i connect the blue to the blue the recipient node greys out, and i cant seem to figure out what i am doing wrong
Do you have to be so bright and happy? Don't you realise that many of us come to your pages after hours of failure, confusion and frustration. We're grumpy. Then along you come and in a few minutes of bright, happy chat, show us where we've been going wrong. You haven't even the decency of making out that it's complicated. It's all very trying for us idiots. Anyway, thanks for clearing up all the problems I was experiencing in trying to crack depth maps. All the best, and please keep them coming.
I was just looking through the Davinci Resolve 17 manual and saw on page 1396 the Depth Blur node in Fusion. Would it be possible to bring the depth map into the Fusion page and use the Depth blur node to get a more realistic boke effect? I'd try it myself, but I can't download the beta versions as I'm in the middle of a production. Thanks for all the great tutorials, really helping me transition from Premier & After Effects to Davinci.
Is there any way to dynamically change the depth-map options? Such as using "isolation" on an actor who moves towards & away from the camera in the same shot, simulating focus-tracking/pulling?
It could I suppose BUT it would be much slower (it's much more resource heavy) and less accurate. Green Screen is still the 'standard' for a reason really because it's cheap and simple to do :)
@@MrAlexTech Thanks, I'm also using OBS, but the seems some pixelation in the recording especially when record browser. I have tried a lot of different settings. Could you please share your settings?
