This reminds me of his fight way back with Hammerhead, who's only weapon is his head. Somehow Spiderman lost all speed, strength, agility, spider sense and gets rammed in the back. Or another ridiculous villain, the Scorpion who's weapon is his pointy feet. Spiderman lost his ability to cling to where he can't be reached, and was on a webbing conservation program
As others have already commented, Spidey should be able to take out Tombstone with little effort. Tombstone is hard to hurt, but he's only a 6-tonner. Spidey could web him up pretty easily.
I will say one thing about the Wells Spider-Man run: He DOES write a damn good Tombstone! His Tombstone was smart and ruthless . Tombstone used to be a major villain when he was first introduced , and I think that Wells was trying to make him a big deal again (Or at least a BIGGER threat !). Peter’s fight with The Vulture during this run was pretty damn brutal too .
Spider-Man is so op they have to nerf him… Spidey is like Batman, but better. His genius alone is on par with Stark. His strength is 50 times above street level hero’s, including Cap. Thee best agility in all of marvel. Durability on par with Luke Cage. Regularly takes down villains above his pay grade…
the detail where he says he "can fight dirty" was when he stopped holding back just so that he could break tombstone's hands, which he would never do normally, but he knows he can, and he did, he knows he can finish the fight whenever he wants, he just doesn't because using his full strength would kill tombstone.
Good story, but apparently Spiderman got a huge power debuff for this fight. No spider sense. Weakened strength. Slow reflexes. No webbing. Maybe this would have been a better story for someone like Captain America. Spiderman could have ended this in 10 seconds if there were no plot armor.
Great art, but Spidey could have literally 'wrapped this up' inside of a minute. Where's his webbing? His agility? His speed? People can just trip him up now? I hope JR Jr got paid one hell of a lot more than the writer....he did a great job, but the other dude just phoned it in.
He forgot about webs and senses that would stop the guy in 5 minutes. Because in Marvel they have to abuse Spiderman again.
Modern writers forgetting every ability of Spiderman and making him appear as inept as they are at writing comics. I love the irony.
