Lieutenant Dan defending Forrest when she asked if his friend was stupid is one of the most heart warming moments of this film. He may have seemed angry all the time but he knew what Forrest had to go through growing up

Lt. Dan Taylor is one of the best examples of character development in movie history. He was a slave to his own family history and tradition, he never anticipated life outside the Army and Forrest was the only one at that time who never saw Lt. Dan any differently. Him and Bubba were Forrest's only TRUE friends.

He also knew the hell Forrest had to go through to turn off his mind and just run through the underworld to grab all those guys even if it meant he died. Forrest may not have fully grasped the situation, but to a guy like Dan, if he was going though "war fatigue" (an old name for PTSD before it had a name) from losing his legs, then Forrest had to be going through hell trying to understand himself carrying literally pieces of men back to the LZ, some of them dying in his arms, crying out for their families or begging Forrest to end them mercifully or to let them stay there so he could help people who weren't bleeding out from body parts that were now fertilizing soil on an island they couldn't pronounce the name of for reasons they didn't know other than "freedom".

Agree.. he probably is Forrest's son. Sadly, that moments is what kills this movie for me. I can see forgiving and living through everything. As someone who was born and raised in the American South, I can confidently say that the most accurate part of this movie is that we will sit next to a complete stranger and end up telling our entire life story. Seriously, I've done it to two people in the past week, and it's happened to me at least five times in the same week. We are a talkative people. There's a reason you don't hear Southern accents in movies about the FBI or CIA. We just never shut up.

Quick story. I managed a Ryans Steakhouse 30 years ago and the corporate training was in Greer SC. They taught us to lower ourselves to eye level with the customers and get feedback on the food. South Carolina people wouldn't stop talking.

Forrest has the gift to save persons from their fears. He has a pure soul, just doing things because of the very good education from her mama. The most emotional scene for me is when he discovers he is a father and he asks if little Forrest is like him...he's been aware all his life that he's disabled in any way...but he has been blessed with many other thins: good heart, faithfull frienshindships, able to love beyond this life. Run free Forrest run. Jenny will be flying in the skyes watching you.

Hey Marc Sendra, your comment here is very well said! Forrest Gump is just one of those movies that I think most people can really connect with on an Emotional level. I also really admire how Forrest showed the upmost loyalty to those closest to him. I think that is a character quality we can all admire and try to apply in our own lives! For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RUclips channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique.

Even with all the traumatic memories associated with this movie, it's still one of my favorites!! I even like Jenny. She deserved Forrest, but I understand why she didn't think so, and why she lives her life as she does until she finds she's pregnant. Great reaction, guys!! We are destined to be together. Life just got to her first before I could meet her. We both knew that this love was real and I know that it hurt her to leave me as much as it hurt me to lose her. She left me because she loved me too much to put me through her problems with addiction. I know that now. I miss her so much and I truly hope that she has found happiness. I will be with her again. The story of the sequel is a but more complicated. Paramount claimed the movie made no profit therefore they did not owe the author, Winston Groom, any royalty money as the contract was for a share of the profits. The author sued and to keep the public from finding out about the Hollywood accounting shenanigans Paramount used to make the film appear to lose money, Paramount settled the lawsuit. Technically Paramount did not pay the author any back royalties. They paid him a large upfront amount for rights to the unfinished sequel. So the author wrote the sequel in such a way that it was not filmable turning Forrest into an unlikeable monster.

Jenny gave us all a lesson on self-love. She was abused as a little girl. Her ability to love herself was almost completely destroyed. It took her decades to purge her pain and self-loathing. She ultimately learned to love herself and be at peace with the world. Forrest was her lifeline, even when he wasn't around. She found her salvation, which is all that matters.

You two are amazing. Every time I watch your channel, I discover more and more of the direct shortcomings of who I am, and what I've been most of my life. I'm 64, and only a couple of months ago did I discover and realize how, just like the Eagles song "Desperado", I too am a desperado. I mean, I usually thought I was a nice guy, because I thought I was never flying colors as I rode with a notorious motorcycle gang, that I never carried a gun in my belt as I rode the Greyhound Bus, drifting from town to town, and that I never frequented seedy bars where I always started and ended nightly brawls, No, I was the "nice guy"! And honestly, I really was. But I only recently realized nice guys can also be desperado's too. Forest could have, maybe should have turned out differently. But you two saw his heart. Anyway, your honest observation of Forest makes me believe even someone like me can change. Thanks for pouring out the honesty of your transparent heart in all your reaction videos. Love and Peace, Tod w/ only one d

It was one of a first movies Ive seen in cinema. It was actually school trip to cinema to watch this movie when I was like 10 and I remember scene with Forrest speech on Jenny`s grave and how other kids reacted with "he is stupid talking to a grave". As Ive lost my father couple years back , that scene stuck with me for many following years so as their reaction, giving me some kind of confidence that I`m not the only one even if many people cant understand that and what I`m feeling. Hard to describe it but that movie will always have special place in my heart.

Jenny represents someone with too little structure in their life (the letters get returned because she has no home, no address) and Lieutenant Dan represents someone with too much structure (born and raised in a military family where their own death is plotted out from birth) and both were sad and destructive to themselves as a result. Forrest’s mom and his simple-mind actually gives him the perfect balance of planning and flexibility.
He shows them what they need to be happy. He gives Jenny their son which creates a home and gives her life structure it has always lacked. He gives Let Dan a new purpose - working on a boat - and showed him life goes on and he’s free to live his life on his own terms.

The park where Forrest is sitting is called Bull Square in Savannah, Georgia. I worked as an extra in a few movies in Savannah, including "Baywatch". There are a lot of movies filmed in southeast Georgia. Another good movie filmed in the area was "Glory", a true story from the American Civil War, with Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.

In case it hasn't been explained yet in the comments. Maybe it has. The speech Tom Hanks gave at the anti-war rally went like this: "When people go to Vietnam sometimes they go home to their Mamas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's really bad. That's all I have to say bout that."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a most profound statement about war.

    HOW REFRESHING!
LAURA! A reactor who reacts rather than gives a blow by blow color commentary saturating the reaction video by overstating the obvious, a reactor who laughs when it's funny without explaining "oh now that is funny, it's like this or that", one who shows an expression of disgust or disapproval without going on about "how messed up is that? That is so wrong, it's just like how this happens here and there and blah blah blah", one who sheds real tears, sniffles, breathes deep with heavy sighs, without going on about "oh my god that is so sad, can you imagine, it's just like how this or that or blah, blah, blah". A reactor who shows their genuine reaction to the moments in the movie as they happen, saving the commentary and dialog for after the conclusion of the movie.
Thanks Magy for including Laura in this reaction video. I remembered that you had reacted to Forrest Gump a while back yet I saw the thumbnail of you and someone else who didn't look like one of the "Homies" so I had to check it out and am so glad I did.

I was at a “health and spirituality” expo with my now ex, her sister and her sisters bf…and whilst the girls were chatting with one particular stall manager, a person from the neighbouring booth approached myself and the other guy, asking that same question, “have you found jesus?”
Without missing a beat the other guy grabbed my shoulder and with a faked panic look in his eyes asked me “you DID lock the door to the basement, right?”
The look on the askers face was PRICELESS

i think the reason she went away after sleeping with forrest, is cause she was cured, her whole problem was that she associated sex with a horrible traumatic experience.. and always got reinforced by her experiences with man..
When she slept with Forrest was the first time she experience sex with love.. and that help her get over her traumas.. but she couldnt stay now that he was rich.. and just live out of him.. she knew she had to get her life together..
At least thats what i think

Jenny has sex with Forrest because since her childhood, she has always connected "love" with sex. That was the closest thing to expressing love that Jenny understood. Forrest gave Jenny unconditional love. something she did not feel worthy of receiving. Everything she did in a relationship, in her mind, had to be conditional and transactional.

The performances are also VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (and Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is my other favorite performance). For me Personally, I often find myself connecting with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).

A soldier does not have to obey an order in every circumstance. Forrest was trying to save the life of one of the members of the platoon at the risk of his own life. He wasn't interfering with the napalm run in the process.
