This movie really affected Gary Sinise. Ever since he played Lt. Dan, he has run The Gary Sinise Foundation to help U.S. Veterans and their families. He formed the Lt. Dan Band and tours for the U.S.O.. when he isn't acting. He also runs The Snowball Express to provide vacations to the children of fallen U.S. soldiers. He is a true American patriot.
Not just this, he also sponsors events for soldiers. when I on rotation in Germany he sponsored an event for us to tour the Dachau Concentration Camp and have a trip to Munich Germany, which was a nice change of pace at the end of our rotation
The rosary and dog tags he wears in this movie are his brother-in-law's. Jack Treese served 22 years in the US Army. He served 2 tours in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne as a combat medic, receiving the Purple Heart twice, and earning 2 Bronze Stars. Jack passed away in 2014 from cancer, after spending the previous dozen years travelling with Gary in support of veterans.
The "million dollar wound" was a sort of joke with military people during the Vietnam war era, idea was to get injured just enough to be sent home but not enough to be permanently disabled.
I spent 2003-2004 at F.O.B. Hiit Iraq (the most actively attacked base in country that year) ... we had rockets, mortars pretty regular. One of the Marines took a piece of shrapnel to the Gluteus Maximus ... ... and had his buddy pull it out with his field knife because (and I quote):: "I'm not getting a Purple Heart for the Forest Gump Wound." 💜
@@ChurchNietzsche Ha! I don't blame him. On one hand, you were wounded honorably serving our country... On the other hand, every time someone asks about your PH, you gotta tell them... LOL
Eugene "Sledgehammer" Sledge mentions it in his memoir "With the Old Breed: at Peleliu and Okinawa" by saying the only way a marine could get off of either of those bloodsoaked islands alive was by winning a "million dollar wound"
43:22 The part that moved me the most is when Forrest asks if his son is smart since it shows that he is aware that he has a limitation in that sense and he does not want his son to suffer for it.
What me makes me sad, that Jenny hide the Kid for His Father for what 5-6 years? Hes is smart in scool. When Kids Go to school in US? Here its about 6 years. Forrest missed so much of His childhood!!!
Its just too bad they could not have used Mykelti Williamson to play the part of Fred Haize and we would have had the trifecta. Prime Crew Lt Dan CM Pilot, Bubba Buford LM Pilot, and Forrest Gump Mission Commander.
This is the speech that Forrest said at the Vietnam protest: "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
@@mannistef That's what Tom Hanks said at the microphone when they filmed the movie. I don't know if that is in the book that preceded the movie. Maybe someone who read it might read this and tell us.
That's a cool trivia question...and all I know about the book is it was very thin(like a "Dime-Novel") ,not much to it They said if it hadn't have been for Hanks, it would have never been so good
I heard he goes into space with a monkey in the book, but didn't know what he said on the mic, don't know why i never thought to look that up, sweet, thanks!
@@AxbuIVIe "Written by Winston Groom, the novel version of Forrest Gump sees Forrest become a pro-wrestler, a chess champion, a Hollywood stuntman and - strangest of all - Forrest Gump goes to space, recruited by NASA alongside male ape called Sue."
Mama Gump is a one in a million mom. Most moms would’ve sheltered and cuddled their ‘disadvantaged’ son, but instead she taught him he was no less than anyone else. We need more Mama Gumps
Well it´s a good thing to shelter you kid with special needs, but the hard truth is you are most likely not their for them their whole life so it´s a good thing they get interdependent as far as they can.
@aztecadog You are right about that. Most parents would be overwhelmed about the raising a special needs kid. But as FunkcBuddha81 says, I agree that the teaching of "independence" is the very much needed - more so than for other kids. Most people get freaked out about the sex with the principal. But this is kinda an ultimate act. When WW2 ended, there are stories from Germany about mothers bringing men into their homes because of the many cities were wrecked and their economy in shambles. I recall a PBS documentary that interviewed a son (grown man in the documentary), and he was very upfront about it. I thought it was quite admirable that his mother did what she can to feed the family and the man to acknowledge the act of love.
@@FunkyBuddha81but when you die, who is going to be there for them? Sheltering them is fine, if anything give them a comfortable life but also teach them how to survive because you wont be there forever. They might outlive you
@@Aloysius_OHare yeah that's what i Said, still there are people out there that are Independent to a certain point but still need care on a daily bases because of their circumstances.
I prefer the summary the movie trailers gave it - "It's about a simple man who was only ever good at one thing,... LIFE" Seriously, how many lives did Forrest Gump touch,... and how many lives did he SAVE? He's like John Coffey without the magical power
In the 90s, If you were in school and late for class, had forgotten something in the store, had to chase after your dog it was always accompanied by random people yelling "Run, Forrest Run!"
Some kids (age about 15) shouted that at me last week, when I went for a run. The movie is often shown in schools in Denmark around that age, so it still isn't uncommon to hear. I naturally choose to sprint for a short while which seemed to please them :) Yes, it used to be much more common to hear.
Lol, I heard that phrase from a coworker after I set the the store alarm & had to run out quickly so it wouldn't trigger the alarm. And yes, it was in the 90s. Lol
The most surprising thing is that he doesn't think he's intelligent, but he is the most successful person, capable of doing anything he sets his mind to. He is a loyal person to his friends, and with an unbreakable love for Jenny. In short, he is a good person that anyone with half a brain would want to have as a friend.
The movie is about the redeeming nature of love. Forrest said it himself: "I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is." His loyalty and love redeemed Jenny and Lieutenant Dan and brought Bubba's family out of poverty. You don't need to be smart, successful or clever to make a difference in the world. Just love somebody with your whole heart.
Gary Sinise, who played Lt Dan, spoke to veterans about the role. He ended up leading and raising money for veterans charities and voicing army recruitment videos and received the citizens medley from the president for his work with veterans. He has a band called the Lt Dan Band and plays army barracks.
He doesn't just play barracks, he does (or did anyway) a full USO type tour. They set up a full stage, put on a full set with an opener, he comes and glad hands everyone and is super nice and takes a million pictures - all for free. There's merch and food and stuff for sale, but the show itself is on-base and free entry (or was when I went through, anyway. I understand it was always set up that way - maybe someone here could weigh in if their experience was different). Probably the two best advocates the Troops and veterans have right now (in terms of voice and reach) are Gary Sinise and John Stewart. I never met Stewart, but I did see Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band play (not really my style of music, and it was still a really fun event).
@RugbyPass81 I can answer that mate 🙋♂️. Because you joined the military and they sent you. Theirs not to make reply / Theirs not to reason why / Theirs but to do and die. That's what you signed up for, that you didn't understand it before you signed is maybe the issue mate. Joining the forces for many is Joining a brotherhood, a sacred bond that transcends politics. That's what Gary is supporting. That's a righteous endeavour. That you despise the politics and the politicians that send these men to war is a different argument, it does not demean the men and women who participate.
The young Forrest was played by a young man named Michael Connor Humphreys. Humpreys is from Mississippi and had a very unique accent and style of talking, so Tom Hanks actually learned how to talk like Michael. Humphreys later joined the army and served in Iraq.
Also. Rarely noticed is that when Jenny falls down on the dirt in front of the old house, that initial pose is an homage to the famous painting by Andrew Wyeth, CHRISTINA’S WORLD.
@@jeffk1482 Same here...I love when people point out the significant things that we may miss because their knowledge gives them information that they share with the rest of us.
@@sharonhoyt2133And, of course, what she missed about the football part was not too surprising, considering her background. That football coach with that distinctive hat is one of the most famous coaches in American college football history. His hat was his signature and anybody who was a football fan in that era would have known instantly who he was. Paul "Bear" Bryant. Legendary head coach at Alabama. He would have been almost as famous as the president at that time.
“You ever been on a real shrimp boat? No but I’ve been on a real big boat.” That joke goes over so many peoples head. And it’s one of my favorite lines in the whole movie.
Forrest Gump can be put into the "Unique" category. It truly is an undefinable yet brilliant film. A story about one man, yet it's also the story of the 20th century USA. Brilliant film making.
It's also one of the few films where the main protagonist has no character arc. He doesn't change. But everyone he encounters gets changed for the better.
Because of Jenny’s traumatic childhood, she always thought little of herself. She always considered Forest a genuine person, and felt she didn’t deserve him. That’s why she always ran away. She thought she was protecting him from her.
Yet she’d go back when she needed validation. Once she got it, she’d leave him again. People need to stop the revisionism of Jenny’s character. She wasn’t the worst human ever but she was horrible to Forrest.
This is one of the most profund movies I know. After all this years it touches me deeply. Within the years I realized, that live is all about "you never know what you get". R.I.P Dad and Mum.
and the moment a lot of people miss the significance of. When she climbed to the balcony as if she was going to jump off. Sure, everyone will say "don't do it, Jenny", not recognizing she can't. Its a very real and disturbing feeling that some people endure - too scared to live, but also too scared to die. While it might be true that taking one's own life could be perceived as the "coward's way out", it is a gut-wrenching feeling no one can truly understand when you feel that you have so little power over yourself that you cannot even end your life if you wanted to. Another Tom Hanks movie "Cast Away" takes this concept and applies it in a literal manner.
When Forrest first told the box-of-chocolate thing and it reminded you to your dear father, it brought tears into my eyes too... 😢 IMHO this is one of the greatest movies of all time without doubt. Even though it is definitely sad in a way, it's still so kind and warm...
People fail to understand just how much Jenny's childhood abuse messed her up for life. Yes Forrest deserved better and her low self esteem made Jenny believe she wasn't worthy of Forrest or even happiness.
Today, Jenny would likely be diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Considering her childhood and her rather self destructive years out on her own it would seem like a fitting diagnosis. Attachment Theory could also clarify her behavior since she never felt secure in her own home around the people that were supposed to protect and love her so she only knows disordered relationships. The issue that most viewers can't pin down is that it's not Jenny's fault for what happened to her as a child but it is her responsibility to heal herself as an adult otherwise she'll "blood on someone that didn't cut her" such as Forrest. It's hard to understand someone struggling with mental/emotional issues until you've had such people in your life and made a conscious effort to understand them.
A lot of emotional gut punches in this movie.. but LT Dan showing up at his wedding was a big one, and the fact that he called him "GUMP" the whole movie until his wedding, then he called him "Forrest". That showed how much respect LT Dan had for Forrest.
And that moment you realize how much respect Lt. Dan truly had for Forrest when, rather than getting an easy lay, he shoved her off and yelled "DON'T CALL HIM STUPID!"
30:39 "That's the day I'm an astronaut!" 44:19 "Titanium alloy, its what they use on the space shuttle!" One of my favorite little things in this movie.
I was pleasantly surprised she got the connection. Many, many reactors don't! The Watergate scandal has kind of fallen to the wayside in American history.
This is a fantastic movie. The entire cast was great. It wasn't a sad movie. It was a movie about hope with sad moments. And what made Forrest such a good person was his innocence.
never ever worry about what people think of you, special or not, autistic or not. the only person who should care about that is you and you alone. all others are irrelevant. keep going and keep positive! wish u all the best
I have been a professor for many years and have taught and worked with many on the spectrum, you know what you are capable of and don't let anyone discourage you.
My Son is autistic, in 3rd grade and he’s a little behind. He’s a very nice boy and kids like him. But I do worry he will be left behind and not included as he enters his teens. I hope he finds a good life as an adult. As I hope you have:)
I was a teenager and took my mom to see this movie in the theater because she thought it looked good. From her perspective, all the events they inserted Forest into were events she lived through. I think it hit different for her. Great movie and great reaction. I am glad that you understood that Jenny is a damaged person. I have seen people hate on Jenny but her character is realistic for some people that have experienced trauma at a young age. Jenny kept telling Forest that he didn't know what love is, but she herself had a warped sense of what love was and she didn't truly understand love until she had her own kid.
This movie got Tom Hanks his 2nd CONSECUTIVE win for Best Actor (he also won Best Actor the prior year for PHILADELPHIA (1993), which saw Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington co-star (another highly recommended reaction)). He is one of only 5 people to win 2 years in a row for acting and one of 2 to do this in Best Actor (Spencer Tracy was the other).
he's also (imo ) the greatest example of a comedy actor converting to a drama actor. only followed by Robin Williams (RIP) in just how good of an actor he was at drama and comedy.
My condolences. What a nice way to honor your father. I saw this in theaters with my dad, we both cried, it's remained my favorite movie, doubtful to be dethroned. Was totally worth watching your reation, it's nice to rewatch a shortened version through the eyes of a new viewer, thanks for the content.
I saw this movie twice in theater. I bought the soundtrack on CD after the first time. Both times I went to see it, at the end when the feather starts to fly away, nobody got up to leave until the screen went black. It's like we were in awe of what we just watched. It truly was an amazing movie to see in the theater. So many touching scenes, but I think Bubba's death is the saddest for me.
I think my favourite thing in this movie is the way Susan, lieutenant Dan’s fiancé, looks at Forrest. Knowing all he’s done for Dan. Outstanding editing in this reaction.
Wow, another cool observation. I had noticed that she had a sweet and sensitive look on her face, but yeah, it's because she is reflecting everything she knows about him, including what Lt. Dan has explained about Forrest's role in his journey. That's actually some really good acting around what I think was just a single line ("Hello, Forrest.")
Another thing I observed about that scene was that Dan fell in love with an Asian woman. Possibly from Vietnam, the same country that took his legs and killed his countrymen. Forrest helped to change his life completely.
You are the first person I have read to put yourself in this woman's place. Most people see the character through her origin. Somehow, many people have not really understood Jenny's behavior, and indeed here I think that a tiny part tried to go beyond the simple appearance of this woman. What empathy, thank you very much, your post moved me.
As a father of 3, two of them girls, I loved your intro describing your father and discovering some things he liked. When you teared up at the “chocolates” quote, I got emotional with you and I had to pause to write this comment. I think it’s beautiful what you are doing and I’m so very sorry for your loss of your father. Two of mine are grown and now I have a little 6 week old girl who was a surprise at this stage in my life. I’ve always loved sharing my favorite music and movies with my oldest 2. Now I get to share all of the wonderful music and movies all over again with my little one as she grows. I’m definitely your new fan. I am positive that your father loved you very much and I hope you always try to connect with him. ❤️
Loved your reaction, Kamilla, as always. In the novel that the film came from, Jenny died of Hepatitis C, in the film it is implied that she died of AIDS.
I think what captivates the audience so much in this movie, (aside from the amazing soundtrack) is 1, connecting the dots of historical moments and people, with Forrests life, letting you feel the changing enviroment he grew up in over time, yet he always stayed the same simple good hearted person he had always been. And number 2, the emotional roller-coaster from the writing/directing from one scene to another. Where something so sad as Bubbas death happening, and then all of asudden youre hit with a silly statement and scene about Forrests 'million dollar wound'. So youre constantly being torn between wanting to cry one minute, and then wanting to giggle at Forrests happy go lucky attitude the next.. Anyways, I know thats a long comment, but thank you for the video, it was really fun seeing your reaction. 🤠
Hey yirmiyahu1397! Forrest Gump is a character I think we can all admire! His quality of showing the upmost loyalty to those closest to him is a trait I think we can all apply in our own lives! Jenny and Forrest were polar opposites when it came to understanding and feeling Love. Jenny was sexually and emotional abused in her childhood, and as a consequence, she didn't know what love was. She had no self-love or self-respect, as her father destroyed it all. She went looking for love, but never found it, except when she was with Forrest. It took her almost her entire (short) life to grow into a self-loving person. Forrest was full of unconditional love. No matter what people did to him, he still loved them and stood by them. He was the perfect man for Jenny. No judging, no blaming, always forgiving, always there for her.
@@hollishamilton3943 ... We can speculate that having Forrest's baby put her on track to healing herself. She had 3 years to grow along with their son.
Beautiful reaction. Your expression at the end is spot on, this is a very bittersweet film and beautiful and poetic in so many ways. Thanks again for sharing your heart with the world.
Ok here we go. I’m already teary eyed because of your dad’s love of this classic and you only now finding out what the quote is from. The film hasn’t started yet. 😂 I’m expecting tears on screen 😁
I love that you're honoring your father's memory by watching the movies he enjoyed. I actually do the same thing. My parents both were avid movie-goers and watching movies I know they loved always brings back fond memories of them. Big thumbs-up, buddy.
31:07 "Oh, she's running away" Forrest tells you at the beginning that he is always running to where he's going. Jenny is always running away from where's she's been. 46:28 Hepatitis-C emerged around the same time as HIV and we didn't know what it was either. That's what she had.
Your dad has great taste in movies! I loved watching this with my dad years ago. He was a Vietnam vet & totally agreed with Forest explaining all the different rains during the monsoons from over there.
I saw this movie in the theater. I was crying so hard at the end of the movie that I walked out of the theater wearing sunglasses. Such a great movie, one of my all-time favorites! This movie came out shortly after I lost one of my best friends and the outfit that Jenny wore for her wedding with Forrest, looked exactly like in the gown that my friend was buried in so seeing Jenny like that broke me..... Not to mention she also dies at the end.
Hi Centane, Your reaction to Forrest is the best i have seen, mainly because we saw a fair amount of the film, as well as your comments were short & sweet & to the point each time.
Forrest Gump's speech to the Vietnam Protestors: "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their momma's without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
Can never get bored or tired of this film,Forrest Gump is easily in my top 5 favorite films of all time. Whether it’s someone who just watched for first time or someone who’s watched it a dozen times, this movie never grows old. Really happy you watched it and enjoyed it
Nice reaction. This movie is a good movie about life and one man’s journey through it. There are ups and downs and how Forrest navigated them in his life. He is a truly loyal, sweet, character with a pure heart to help others. The world needs more people like him. This movie is also an American history lesson about important events in our history by decade and how coincidentally Forrest finds himself entangled in them. It’s also a great musical soundtrack by each decade’s most memorable songs too. I’m not sure how well these historical events would resonate with people in other countries. Like how many people would understand the Watergate reference but you did. Finally, in the USA, there actually exists a chain of restaurants called ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp Corporation” named after the movie. It’s a restaurant that serves a variety of different types of foods, but just like in the movie, is also heavy on shrimp items. I’ve visited two of the restaurants in San Francisco and Monterey California and they are so neat. They’re decorated with items from the movie. Including the classic bench from the film in front of the restaurant with a Forrest statue sitting there. You can take pictures with Forrest while you wait to be seated.

4:40 "That doesn't sound healthy." BWAHAHAHAHA!!! That comment had me doubled-over laughing for so long that by the time I'd even managed to gather enough presence of mind to hit pause Forrest was already in college lol
I'm about halfway through the video, and your background knowledge of American history is really impressing me -- even such small things as understanding how the name "Charlie" has a different meaning in the context of the Vietnam War. Gold star for you, Kamilla! 😁
Sorry to hear about your father, This is a beautiful movie, your father had good taste 👍🏻 my father sadly passed away in January and I can't bring myself to watch his favourite movies yet.. Thank you for your reactions ❤
Great reaction Kamilla like always, this movie its one of my favourites its such a masterpiece of cinema. Every character moment or performance in this movie is incredible perfection. The story is simple but interesting, funny and heartbreaking at the same time. The movie was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The author actually went to write the first draft of the flick before it went into production. Forrest was supposed to be a heavier man who sat at 242 pounds and stood at 6-foot-6. In the book, he became a wrestler, went to space and even hung out with an orangutan. And some fun-facts about thi movie, Tom Hanks’ brother did some of that running in the movie Jim Hanks, himself an actor and filmmaker, doubled for his older brother on set, including in numerous sequences featuring Forrest’s high-knee, arm-pumping run. Tom hanks daugther was in this movie in a cameo if you keep an eye out for a surly redheaded girl in the bus scene, when young Forrest can’t find a place to sit (until Jenny invites him to sit next to her). That’s Hanks’ daughter, Elizabeth. While actor Peter Dobson played a not-yet-famous Elvis Presley as a lodger in the Gump household in a brief scene with young Forrest, the voice belongs to none other than actor Kurt Russell. Why? Russell, who was uncredited in the film, had played Presley already in a 1979 biopic directed by John Carpenter titled, appropriately enough, Elvis. And if you are wondering what Gump says in those few moments of radio silence? Well, according to Tom Hanks, the full speech reads: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. Keep up the good work.
I've lost both may father & also my step father who raised me, so I think it's great you shared your emotions with us when things make you think of him like *(Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what your going to get)*
I really enjoy your reactions. Keep up the good work. You and I got emotional in all the same places. The "funny" thing is that I don't remember it being so sad back in my mid-20s. I remembered it more for the funny moments, pop culture and historic references, and how they worked him into old video footage. Ultimately, it's about love. But in life, especially as we get older, there is also a lot of loss. My father died 18 years ago, and my mother two weeks. As I've said a lot over the years, adulting is dumb. Although I've lost a lot of people I've loved, I'm glad I had them in my life. I'm better having known them.
Hey genecrossin5080! For me, Forrest Gump is 1 of those movies that never gets old! I also love how it has moments that most people can relate to on an Emotional level! In the very first scene forrest wears the shoes jenny gave him (that´s why they look so rough). However the laces are clean since lt. dan always told him to take care of his feet.
I have daughters, a couple of them your age. Nothing like a father-daughter bond. He's proud of you, smiling down on you, and you'll see him again. Glad you watched his movie, and hope it brings you peace.
One of the best movie soundtracks. I remember the cd being 2 discs but there was another disc worth of songs from the movie that didn't make it onto those discs. Lots of songs, plus a whole separate orchestra score soundtrack.
In the United States, there is a restaurant chain based on this movie/book called Bubba Gump Shrimp. I only went about twice when I was young. I got shrimp.
My dad loved this movie too. He passed away in 2017 and I like to watch this movie and watch reactions to it to remember good times he and I had. Very comforting to hear someone else kinda shares that feeling
Just randomly found your channel but loved your reaction!! Such a lovely movie. Very human, relatable movie. My father passed away years ago as well so you're not alone in that boat! We'll see them again one day!
This, in my opinion, the best all around movie ever made. It makes you feel every single emotion and tells a great, simple story. So glad you watched this, especially with what it meant to your father from the sound of it. This movie is profound.
In 1995, I gave my mother the VHS tape and a box of chocolates for Mother's Day. Forrest was an early Boomer and I'm an early GenX'r but almost every nostalgic scene in what was supposed to be Alabama (a lot of it actually around Charleston, SC even the Vietnam jungle) harkened back to what I remember in central Florida in the 60s and 70s. The story creator, Winston Groom, never saw his sequel novel "Gump & Co." become a film adaptation but that's fine. "Forrest Gump" remains a snapshot of tumultuous times from the 50s to the 80s and how only the simple things and feelings matter, not only for you but for those you leave behind. It helping you understand your Dad is evidence. Great reaction!
When I saw this pop up in my feed I thought, "Lord this girl is gonna cry her eyes out". And then when you mentioned your dad, I thought "she's going to get dehydrated" haha. I can see how you'd think this is a sad movie, but it's actually a movie about a man who overcame a lot of obstacles, and influenced so many people in a positive way. Forrest was special because he always focused on the positive things in life. Because of his childlike pure heart he could handle any misfortune that came his way. He always stuck to what his mama told him, "you have to do the best you can with what god gave you." On a side note, BubbaGump is an actual restaurant chain that has locations in several different countries and was created because of this movie. Loved the reaction, you're such a sweet young lady! Best wishes to you and yours. 🙂
The screenwriter confirmed that the virus Jenny died of was AIDS as you suspected. In the novel that the film is based on Jenny doesn't die at all. But off of the popularity of the film the author of the original book wrote a sequel (Gump & Company) in which Jenny ultimately does die; and it is from Hepatitis C. That however came AFTER the film. Confusing ain't it? :)
you will likely be the only person that gets this right. even I got it wrong until I decided to fact check myself a few minutes ago. have a like in hopes more see this.
44:22 Twice Lieutenant Dan referenced NASA. The first time was when Forrest told him he was going to be a captain of a shrimp boat, Dan said that he was going to be an astronaut, and here he mentions the shuttle. Both Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise were in "Apollo 13" together.
You are right about the cause of Jenny's illness. Her drug use and promiscuity got the better of her. And by the time she straightened up, it was too late.
It's very touching how this film resonated with you and memories of your dear father. I'm certain he was watching over you and present while you watched this film.
This is one of my favorite movies and I am just as affected watching it today (and even watching the parts in your reaction video) as when I first watched it, or the dozen-plus times since. I am so glad you liked it and had the same reactions as I did. Thank you so much for sharing.
Jenny did die of AIDS. I'm also glad that the sequel to this movie fell through because it was going to be about Forest Jr being born HIV positive and growing up with it. Jenny was a good person but her Dad really messed her up so she grew up with drug problems and a really bad daddy complex that lead to terrible choices in men.
In the books she died of hep-c which wasn't discovered until the 80's. No treatment for it at the time. They don't say what she died of in the movie, but everyone just assumes aids. But as a drug user she probably would have been more likely to get hep-c
@@craigplatel813 I was just talking about the movie that was in the works. Forrest Gump Part 2. I know movies stray from the source material quite often. AIDS is just a scarier word that more people would understand.

Amazing movie!
He is the only thing good in this movie.
Yeah, he was a "cool dude" before ... ... but -after- this movie.
Yep. I remember him being advertised in South Korea when I was a child. Everyone was excited he was flying in with his band to play.
One of the Marines took a piece of shrapnel to the Gluteus Maximus ... ... and had his buddy pull it out with his field knife because (and I quote)::
"I'm not getting a Purple Heart for the Forest Gump Wound." 💜

Yup. That and when Jenny dies and he is at her grave talking to her. Absolute emotional gut punches.

What me makes me sad, that Jenny hide the Kid for His Father for what 5-6 years? Hes is smart in scool. When Kids Go to school in US? Here its about 6 years. Forrest missed so much of His childhood!!!
It always sounded to me like he was trying to say "is he smart, or is he like me?" But couldn't quite get it out. That always hit me too.
Funny that Leuitenant Dan joked about being an astronaut. That actor and Tom Hanks would later play astronauts in Apollo 13.
or that his "magic legs" were made of the same stuff they build space ships out of - I always thought this inadvertent connection funny too 😅
in the 'forrest gump' novel he WAS an astronaut...
And Gary Sinise's Apollo 13 character Ken Mattingly went on to fly the space shuttle
Its just too bad they could not have used Mykelti Williamson to play the part of Fred Haize and we would have had the trifecta. Prime Crew Lt Dan CM Pilot, Bubba Buford LM Pilot, and Forrest Gump Mission Commander.
Most likely they were already planning Apollo 13 while Forrest Gump was filming. They both already know they'd be in it.

I naturally choose to sprint for a short while which seemed to please them :)
Yes, it used to be much more common to hear.
In the 90s? I hear it often TODAY.
This movie is well on its way to being a Gone With The Wind, or The Wizard of Oz level classic cinema.
i still hear it today! even some of my gen z friends use the phrase whenever someone else is running :)
Funny, I live in NC and we had a lieutenant governor, Dan Forrest, and when he was running his campaign slogan was "Run Forrest, run!"

Could you please react to a trailer movie called the lady of heaven (2021)
The movie is about the redeeming nature of love. Forrest said it himself: "I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is." His loyalty and love redeemed Jenny and Lieutenant Dan and brought Bubba's family out of poverty. You don't need to be smart, successful or clever to make a difference in the world. Just love somebody with your whole heart.
Not to mention the bumper sticker and t-shirt guys.
Gary Sinise is one of, if not the best person in the world
I met Gary Sinise on one of his tours. You'll never find a more humble person.
@RugbyPass81 not to join the military, having no military wouldn't be a good thing
I believe he was decorated with the bronze star.

Forrest Gump can be put into the "Unique" category. It truly is an undefinable yet brilliant film. A story about one man, yet it's also the story of the 20th century USA. Brilliant film making.
Brilliant writing. It was a book before it was a movie.
It's from a genre called the encyclopedia film. Like JFK.
What any woman does if yo do not perform well.

This is one of the most profund movies I know. After all this years it touches me deeply. Within the years I realized, that live is all about "you never know what you get". R.I.P Dad and Mum.
I love how realistic this movie is and how Jenny’s abuse affected her greatly because it really does happen in real life
and the moment a lot of people miss the significance of.
Yes, people are affected by things that happen to them.
One of the most beautiful movies ever made. Always crying, always laughing so much. Pure love for it.
Forrest is the most underrated person, pure and genuine. Everything he does is curious. Amazing how he fits in so well to the Army.
When Forrest first told the box-of-chocolate thing and it reminded you to your dear father, it brought tears into my eyes too... 😢
IMHO this is one of the greatest movies of all time without doubt. Even though it is definitely sad in a way, it's still so kind and warm...
People fail to understand just how much Jenny's childhood abuse messed her up for life. Yes Forrest deserved better and her low self esteem made Jenny believe she wasn't worthy of Forrest or even happiness.
Yea well William Munny said “Deserves got nothin’ to do with it.” 😂
Many people refuse to understand what Jenny endured. They're too busy being self-righteous, women-hating fools.

Both times I went to see it, at the end when the feather starts to fly away, nobody got up to leave until the screen went black. It's like we were in awe of what we just watched. It truly was an amazing movie to see in the theater. So many touching scenes, but I think Bubba's death is the saddest for me.
Lieutenant Dan’s face off with God in the storm is one of the greatest moments in film haha. This movie is a true classic.
We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are.

She said, "You don't want to marry me." This line alone tells a lot about her self-worth.

Hey queegs73! Forrest Gump is a character I think we can all admire! His quality of showing the upmost loyalty to those closest to him is a trait I think we can all apply in our own lives! For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RUclips channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump.
If you have a few minutes sometime and happen to be Interested, here is a link to the video: ruclips.net/video/Or-sIiNANYg/видео.html
If you don't check it out, then no worries at all! I certainly would Not be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! I hope you Have A Great Day Today, queegs73! Please Stay Safe and Stay Awesome! 🙂
4:40 "That doesn't sound healthy." BWAHAHAHAHA!!! That comment had me doubled-over laughing for so long that by the time I'd even managed to gather enough presence of mind to hit pause Forrest was already in college lol
Thanks for this reaction. One of the most heartfelt movies ever made.
Thank you for sharing. Sending you so much love and good energy, I wish you and your loved ones smooth healing
Could you please react to a trailer movie called the lady of heaven (2021)
Oh my god. The box of chocolate line hitting you was the cutest and sweetest thing ever. I wish you all the best!!!
I've lost both may father & also my step father who raised me, so I think it's great you shared your emotions with us when things make you think of him like *(Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what your going to get)*
Such a beautiful movie! Tom Hanks gives a stellar performance! great choice Centane!
Forrest Gump is just one of those movies that everyone needs to see in their lifetime
Hey genecrossin5080! For me, Forrest Gump is 1 of those movies that never gets old! I also love how it has moments that most people can relate to on an Emotional level! And Personally, I often find myself connecting with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).

In the very first scene forrest wears the shoes jenny gave him (that´s why they look so rough). However the laces are clean since lt. dan always told him to take care of his feet.
Your dad lives on through you. This was wonderful and reminded me of my bestfriend/late father too. Thank you for this.
You can ask almost any vet about Lt Dan.
Gary is the real deal.
Was he made an honorary Colonel in the US Army or was it Brigadier General? I know he was given a high officer rank.
Of all the scenes that are tear jerkers i think when LT Dan walks with his fiancé up to forest and jenny all smart gets me the most.
Was it all kinds of shrimp? 👀
@@Centane you have no idea. Maybe you should go and tell the waiter to surprise you. You never know smart you're gonna get.
My dad loved this movie too. He passed away in 2017 and I like to watch this movie and watch reactions to it to remember good times he and I had. Very comforting to hear someone else kinda shares that feeling
Even though I recognize that The Godfather (1&2) are the two greatest movies ever made, this movie is still my all-time favorite anyway.
Such a beautiful movie. Tom Hanks nailed this role.
Every 14 year old boy should watch this movie over and over. Truth is power
My absolute number one favorite movie, thank you for the reaction. I loved watching it with you.
She contracted aids after she got the baby?
44:22 Twice Lieutenant Dan referenced NASA. The first time was when Forrest told him he was going to be a captain of a shrimp boat, Dan said that he was going to be an astronaut, and here he mentions the shuttle. Both Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise were in "Apollo 13" together.
👏For not hating on Jenny. I always thought a movie based on Jenny's life would make for a powerful tragedy.
Definitely
Around 16:36 - someone yells “someone give her a harmonica” cracks me up every time 😂
You are right about the cause of Jenny's illness. Her drug use and promiscuity got the better of her. And by the time she straightened up, it was too late.
It's very touching how this film resonated with you and memories of your dear father. I'm certain he was watching over you and present while you watched this film.
There is a Restaurant in Texas called Bubba Gump Shrimp.
They opened one in London. Not sure it's still there though.
They opened one in London
They opened one in London.
They opened one in London
Mississippi as well.
@@mckrackin5324 After Tom Hanks was already in the movie "Philadelphia" which itself touched on the subject of AIDS, I don't think another movie so soon after was really necessary. Besides, its always better to go back and watch another amazing Tom Hanks performance.
The screenwriter said it was Hep C, which makes sense as passing on HIV to her child or Forrest would have been a poor storyline.
"That's the day I'm an astronaut!" - actor mostly famous for playing an astronaut with Tom Hanks
