This is not intended to bash or praise either Apple or Android. This is simply to give Android users the same paths talked about here. I'm typing this on my Pixel 8 Pro and followed along with the video. 2:12 Android always remembers your settings. 2:27 I don't have Photographic Styles. 3:03 I turned on my grid, level, and mirrored the front camera. The setting for mirroring on Android is "save selfie as previewed". I tuned that off. 3:30 I don't have "prioritize faster shooting" but I do have a setting that lets me pick between 12 and 50mp. I just always leave it on 50mp regardless. And when 50mp is enabled over 12mp, burst is greyed out. 3:48 Again, I don't have Photographic Styles and I'm not sure what the equivalent would be. Maybe the filters in the Android camera are the same thing but those are after you've shot a photo so not really. There are in-viewfinder shadow and white balance sliders you can adjust before taking a photo if you tap the sliders icon beside the shutter button. But, again, I'm not sure if that's the same thing. So I'm going to skip the whole Photographic Styles path. 5:01 Intense path: I already had Lightroom mobile installed and subscribed to it. 5:24 For formats, in the pro settings, you can pick just JPEG or JPEG and RAW. So, I turned on both. So when I take a picture, I get the JPEG file and the RAW file. RAW is not ProRAW, keep in mind. If I remember correctly, ProRAW is Apple's proprietary version of the RAW format. Everyone else uses RAW format. The point is, I now have JPEG and RAW files to work with. 5:52 No, I'm mostly in Android and Windows. So, I'm skipping the yes path here. 6:37 There's no JPEG-XL setting on Android so skipping that. 7:05 Yes, I shoot video. So, let's do this path. The 8 Pro can do 4k60fps so that is now enabled. 7:19 Keep in mind that turning on 60fps disables the HDR settings so if you want HDR, leave it on 30fps. I don't like the look of HDR and I would rather get 60fps videos so I turned on 60fps. This is a personal choice thing and I'm pretty sure the Pixel 9 can do 4k120 with HDR. I am generation behind. That's why I have to pick one or the other. 7:44 Intense video path: There isn't a ProRes setting on Android because that's an Apple thing but you can pick between H.265/HVAC and H.265/AVC. HVAC is a smaller file but may not be compatible with some stuff. I use AVC because stoage isn't a concern. I'd rather have compatibility. 9:53 You can adjust the shadows, white balance, saturation, ISO, ect before taking a picture by hitting the sliders icon beside the shutter button on Android. There aren't any "styles" presets which is what Photographic Styles sounds like, but you can adjust these settings in the Android camera before taking a photo. Then, after taking the photo, Google Photos gives you *all kinds* of adjustments you can make including filters and adjusting the look of said filters. That's it, I think. Right? Even last year's Pixel can do most of what they're talking about here. Don't think you have to have the latest iPhone to do this stuff.
I really appreciate the easy vs hard pathways on the flow chart. Too many other videos on RUclips saying, "if you're not shooting in ProRAW you're an idiot!" and that's just not true for some people.
HDR (Dolby Vision) has nothing to do with protecting highlights. It's a format that displays higher nit values on your screen. You might be mistaken with HDR photography which is exposure bracketing. Two very different things. Source: I'm a pro film colorist.
I would really appreciate an Android version of this video where you utilise androids strength: customizability. Like Motioncam which does RAW and LOG video on Android with video quality that way outperforms the iPhone. And with custom gcam apps you can edit every step of the processing pipeline, netting incredibly natural pictures that even when zoomed in don't have that smartphone look. Bit technical maybe but there are pre-made apps. I can get you in contact with the devs.
@@CarswithMiles Imagine being a tech journalist but not knowing that if you're willing to put in the effort (and granted, forgo some workflow efficiency) you can get wildly better image quality across the board. Just search on older android vs iphone log Motioncam. Or better, try yourself
If you look closely on the x5 one, 2nd and 3rd have EXACTLY the same size in the sign. That’s bc both Samsung and iPhone have x5 lenses (which they shot in), versus the R5 who is slightly less zoomed in (they did it manually, not a x5 button)
You mentioned you did the test with a Samsung S24 Ultra, do you plan to have a video on that phone like you just did for the iPhone? The Samsung phone always does better every year in your own camera test.
I'm watching this on my A03 Core because my iPhone 8 Plus's battery hasn't been replaced yet, lol. I'm purely here for the entertainment, knowing I'll just do 4K 60fps everything - not to spite Marques, but because I love using 60fps in my personal (and very VERY soon, RUclips) videos! When I inevitably upgrade my iPhone, I'll go to 4K 120fps! Edit: My iPhone 8 Plus is on 76% battery health, for reference. I just got a lightning charger, so now I can actually put it to use when the battery is replaced!
Do you even need to set the photo format to most compatible when shooting in pro raw? isn't the file type going to be .dng in the end so it doesn't even matter?
Nice to see you guys experimenting with warmer light in recent videos! I sometimes find the pure white a little too harsh on the eyes, so the less "flashbang-y" colors are welcome.
echo system is killing me. But also… suggesting disabling HEIF in capture is a terrible choice. Dropping down to JPG means 8 bit instead of 10 bit and iphone can convert to JPG when sharing anyway. All you’re effectively doing is wasting people’s storage space for zero benefit and worse quality.
I’m loving the more frequent upload schedule!
We've used up both our monthly videos! 😝🗣🗣🗣
Like seriously
As someone who knows nothing about photography and cameras, I love watching David and Marques geek out and explain their thought processes.
I could watch David geek about Cameras all day long.
First video from the new guys and we love it..
This was informative but yeah of course storage is gonna burn really fast...
Gotta hand it to The Studio for putting out such quality content that would greatly help upcoming creators. You guys rock!
“Echo system”
Same energy as Marques pronouncing “niche”.
It’s giving homeschooled

I noticed, that too. LOL, It is so true.
It's because Apple is keeping their users in an echo chamber hahaha

Can I just say 18:14 is an absolute bar?
This channel has been cooking lately !!
The studio channel is setting a bar high day by day ( just like the main channel). So much to learn from production perspective in every video. Thanks

You should add the R5 to the smartphone camera test for statistical data
This is the type of content I really enjoy. Simple and easy to follow, information made easy to receive. Love it!
I just switch to iPhone, your video is a lifesaver! I was going crazy at work with exporting the images to windows and other non-apple platforms!
Banger after banger video on this channel recently, great work yall!
Biggest take from this video is that a smartphone in the right hands can incredibly close to a camera that 99% people won't be able to tell. Goodjob!
the workflow at 1:39 😭🔥
haha I can't believe they used David's confetti sound imitation 6:46
I think it’s an iMovie default
@@Lincoln_Online nope that sound came from David's mouth hahaha
Yeah, I could hear Andrew’s laugh after it too 😆
@@ellisrovin 😹 btw how did you get your job, I’m a aspiring producer and sound engineer and I would love some tips
For Vinh's part they have got Tyler Stalman on the iMac as its colour grading. Haha well played!
More of this please! Make David guess between real film photos and those from apps with emulations!
Vinh only appearing with warm lighting is perfect.

The colour grading on the interview cutaway with Marques and David is soooooooo nice
6:06 don’t focus on guy on the right
Wow that was very captivating, and it has suspense at the end. Cool work

Boy, that Samsung clicks are awesome!

❤ This was so fun to learn so I take better photos and videos on my new iPhone and this was so entertaining ❤
Please include more of this pixel peeping in the phone reviews, its really informative
I would love the same video covering the Pixel 9 series!
Great sound design and music choice!
