I thought this was a great review of what was covered! Nicely done and expressed. Granted you can do a second review regarding ProRaw editing and night tests etc, but this covered a lot of great topics! There are a couple of things I'd like to see covered in addition to the ones people mentioned: (click on read more) 1. In video mode when zooming starting from the 0.5x to the 5x, do you see the "jump" between lenses as it switches over? 2. It seems to fast shutter speed with the default lens. How fast can you freeze subjects? Tests like shooting from a moving car, shooting motorsport, running dogs, etc, would be fun to see and at what lighting conditions does it start to catch motion blur. 3. With the ultra-wide lens, can you compare picture quality to something like the 13 pro? I have that phone and I love the addition of the ultra-wide lens, but am not satisfied with the output. Can you do a side by side in various lighting conditions? I am curious to see how sharp these files are, and also, the edge to edge sharpness. The ultra-wide on the 13pro isn't the best in many situations and for that alone, I would upgrade.
Apple for 5X camera is still at 12MP. I still have iPhone 13 Pro Max and want to upgrade for all the other photo and video features but the 12 MP 5X is a deal breaker.
The wide [macro] lens now has 48 mp cmos sensor, up from 24 mp. Main camera always had 48 mp from the 14 pro. Other than a faster chip, some sorting and filing options it’s the only camera difference for a photographer.
I have the 14PM, and was hoping to see some improvements for flares and ghostings. I took a night photo of the Big Ben last year, where the green arrows from the signs on the crosswalk, floats mid-air. Maybe something you cant get away with on smartphone cameras, but was def. disappointing.
Video looks great, I'm not seeing overly orange skin tones seeing that you are shooting in HDR. That's good. You must have had an ND filter because it looks most of the time very None iPhone footage. When using the 1x lens it almost looks like a Full frame 24mm f4 ish for bokeh. I think it looks great. Unsure what to think of the quad bayers, Tony Northup has been really critical about them.
Thank you for this review! I have been waiting for an actual photographer to finally review the new features of the iPhone 16 Pro. I'm upgrading from an iPhone 11, so almost everything will be a big step at catching up with technology. due to the limitations of the old phone cameras I've been taking all my real photography on good quality DSLRs, mostly on Pentax and Fujifilm equipment.
It would be nice to see tests with trickier lighting. Sunsets/sunrises in particular I feel like my current iPhone just completely botches the white balance. Curious if thats been improved. Great video!
So long, friend! I've got 14 iPhone users in the family I married into (ironically I'm their tech guy) and they've been working on me for years lol. But, I'm not an Apple minded person so with Pixel I stay. I did extend an olive branch by setting up Bluebubbles so I can be in their imessage chats though lol.
hi, as an owner of an iPhone 15 pro, the only concern for me is the quality of the wide angle with 12mp and my question is which wide lens is available in the market worth mounting on my iPhone main lens 48mp to be able to shoot landscape with original 38pm? as you know some brands produce lens collections but I am not sure based on your experience which one is better to buy and use? OR do still you recommend upgrading to 16pro and using an iPhone wide lens with 48mp better than using a third-party lens for this? thank you
I have a question for you please . So let’s say you have a 13 pro and then get 16 pro would that mean the pictures on instagram come out better with the 16 pro? Or would the differences be negligible?
10:12 The wired charging actually got MUCH better but for some reason Apple just didn't advertise it. It now can go up to 45W with an average of 38-39W with the right power adapter
The video explains it exactly. Talk about clutching at straws 🤦♂️, it's lame wired charging in late 2024. If it was anything at all decent Apple would shout it for sure. Look at the wireless, mentioned, yet even that's still below a number of iphone 14 era devices. There is number of reviews that haven't been able to get beyond 30w. As the video says it can take in more for tasks but not for charging only.
There should be a section in the review where you use Halides new process zero mode because there's way too much processing happening with the iPhone photos. This review is basically reviewing the software of the camera, whereas if you used Halides process zero, you'd be reviewing the actual camera hardware
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Blackmagic is fantastic, Kino too. But for still photos the process zero mode in Halide is really the only option for iPhones. Apple's camera app does so much processing that it's basically a waste of time for a serious photographer
But the software is a critical part. You can't review a smartphone camera without including the software. It would also be entirely irrelevant since no one will use it that way.
If the hardware hadn’t changed at all since last year, you might have a point. But since hardware has improved and the software is ALWAYS improving, it does no good to say that a camera review should exclude the stock software. That’s what 99% of people will use.
@@clonkex but what I said was that they're only talking about Apple's camera app, which doesn't include a true, proper raw mode (as we learned in Halid's blog post about their process zero mode). If Apple included a way to turn off all their processing, yes it would make sense to only review photos taken with Apples camera app, but that is not the case. We need to judge true unprocessed photos taken with 16 Pro, and the best way to do that at the moment is Halides process zero mode
My wife and I have iPhone 13’s. Was planning on getting 16’s when available (3-year rotation). Now I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth it. Maybe we should run these 13’s a bit longer.
I'd really like to know what you think of the base iPhone 16. I think there are going to be a lot of people dithering between the standard and the Pro phones and would like to know if the camera will be good enough for them.
If my math and assumptions are correct, I could shoot 48mpix raw with the main camera at 2x optical, then crop in to 5x and get a 19mpix resultant image. That would give me more resolution that 5x optical zoom using the 12mpix periscope telephoto. Possibly the image from the main camera would also have improved colour and other qualities. Am I missing something here?
Great video! One of the biggest misconceptions perpetuated by tech RUclips channels is the idea of the "annual upgrade." Data from manufacturers and service providers consistently show that less than 10% of consumers upgrade their devices annually. No savvy or profit-driven marketing team would focus significant resources on such a small group. It's puzzling why so many RUclips tech reviewers frame their content around upgrades, which must appeal to a very small percentage of their audience.
Wish I could see your impressions of the Vivo X100 Ultra, specially Jordan's, because the telefone camera on that phone is unbelievable good. It produces results that are hard to believe comes from a phone camera, and a smaller telephoto camera even.
I don’t know. I think the pro raw photo quality on my 14 Pro is still pretty good. Not sure that the 16 would be a huge improvement. I’m not that concerned about video.
Thanks Apple. Your camera now has no focal-length lens that I want. As a lifelong photographer I really want a 28mm-35mm standard focal-length. Maybe a 32mm would be a great sweet-spot. Telephoto-wise, I'd love a mid portrait focal-length of around 60-70mm (let's go 65mm). Then a high resolution ultra-wide that gives me an option to crop in as needed.
dont get why the front camera has no upgrade, i mean, 12mp for a camera is pretty small nowadays. As someone who has owned the iphone 14 pro since new back in december 2022, and from someone who once swore by Fuji X system cameras, im not sure hte iphone 16 has anything to offer me really! Yes, i am known for my self portraits, and i did once use the front camera on the iphones, but now i capture remotely using my apple watch, and its convenient because i can select focus where i want, and compose myself within the images more accurately, but i can also switch between back cameras too, without having to move myself physically! Chris and Jordan, awesome honest review, iphone 16 pro is a bit of a let down though, could have really made some upgrades but these barely scratch the itch!
Upgrading from a 13 Pro…how much worse will 3-4x photos look on the new camera? Is there any other competitor with better photos/video in that zoom range?
The supposed 48MP makes almost NO difference to image quality in most instances. It’s most for marketing. And that 5x zoom is a deal breaker. Optically zoom just below that range and the image quality falls apart. Really disappointed with Apple. They seem to be ‘innovating’ in the wrong area (as another commentator said, the new button is a solution looking for a problem).
Your thoughts on the 60 Herz screen and 8 gigs of ram in 2024? Great review btw. I'm on Oneplus 10 Pro concidering an iPhone 16 Pro/Max, but I think I will wait 3 or 4 years until the maybe come up with something really spectacular.
My XS max took the best photos. I upgraded to the 14 pro max last year and regretted it so much. The newer cameras take such a sterile and cold photograph
I feel your pain, brother. I am sporting both the 16 Pro Max and the Google pixel nine. Because I have people in both worlds I like both of them. The cameras are amazing. Both phones
Not everyone changes their phone every year. Many are on 2 year contracts so only change them on a 2 year cycle. Hence they’ll be coming from a 14 series phone and it’d be nice to hear from that perspective as well.
I have a question for example - I am interested in Undertones and Styles and I believe those are available in non-pro models as well, if I am not into telephoto lens, is it a wise option to get those instead of pro models, I believe the camera specs for those two cameras are exactly the same.
Thanks for publishing this review, I found it really helpful. Since I’d be coming from an SE, it sounds like either the 15 or 16 would do the job. I don’t know what to say about Google Pixel. Since I’m so deep into the Apple environment, that transition would be a huge step with not so many many rewards at the other end.
currently using iphone 15 pro.. sended my jpegs taken with my phone to a lab and had them printed..10*15 and some 13*18...they were nowhere close to ones I shot with my fuji...yes they look awesome on phone screen..but dont look that good when printed out..might be something due to heif files...I can literally tell which prints were taken with iphone and camera..by the way my fuji is just an old xt3
Exactly. This 48MP claim is bogus. It's just pixels a quarter the size of the 12MP sensor, which it then bins to create another 12MP image with marginally more detail. It just doesn't hold up when enlarged even a modest amount.
At 12:39 you talk about JPEG-XL resulting in a shareable JPEG (within Photos app?) which already has some contrast etc baked in to the file. Are you meaning as long as you are using HEIF Max as opposed to PRORAW Max? Everything I'm seeing re: PRORAW Max is the resulting images are not really 'ready to share' unless you edit them first.
As always, enjoyable and complete. I love the LOG workflow w/15 Pro; monster files are no prob since I delete them after the edit. The new audio mics and focus options look great. iOS often stops recording LOG, I suspect it gets confused by the hub, Shure MV88+ mic, SSD, and cables; having good built-in mics and a small SSD would be better. Not sure I'd get acceptable quality for music, tho.
It’s been a year and I just noticed since taking off my case on the 15 Pro that there is a spot on it where it’s supposed to be an “antenna band” where the camera control is on the 16. Odd they’re basically in the same place so I imagine it was supposed to be a thing last year
@@MrBearitall So Apple actually removed the third millimeter antenna and revamped the others to offer comparable response. That made way for the camera control button.
How to you rate 16 Pro Max for shooting moon? My husband used Samsung 24 Ultra to take photo of a full moon, the image was amazingly clear. I took a photo of a full moon at the same time using my iPhone 13 Pro, the photo was awful without details. I hope I could use my new iPhone 16 Pro Max to do some photography of the night sky without using a tripod, it it possible?
I find the camera button hard to use. 🤔 Now that the pro and max have the same specs, if I upgrade, I will downgrade to the 16 pro, the max is a bit too big in my hand.

The wide [macro] lens now has 48 mp cmos sensor, up from 24 mp. Main camera always had 48 mp from the 14 pro. Other than a faster chip, some sorting and filing options it’s the only camera difference for a photographer.
Upgrading from 13 Pro so excited to get used to the new camera. Such a big upgrade.
Watched this on the 16 pro and the video looks awesome!
Tony has been critical of the marketing, not the sensors themselves, to be specific
Only correction is that the battery charging is much faster. Almost double. It has been confirmed to charge up to 45 watts.

How about over sharpening? Is it still as bad or hss it improved?
Best iPhone 16 pro camera picture settings? Thanks
Fantastic video as always. A must watch a few days before the new 16 comes in. Upgrading from a 14.
Great review lads. Looks fantastic on both my iphone and windows laptop.
It would be nice to see tests with trickier lighting. Sunsets/sunrises in particular I feel like my current iPhone just completely botches the white balance. Curious if thats been improved. Great video!
Phone reviewers seem to avoid that with iPhone because they know it would be perform very poorly
JPEG-XL only supported on the 16s? Sad for this to be the differentiating factor.
Thnku love from India.❤
Please review 16 pro+ oppo find x7 + Xiaomi ultra+ Vivo ultra 100
You are more reliable rather than any youtuber
Would like to see an evaluation of this phone ‘s camera night photo capabilities. Especially of the moon..
Loving the HDR on this one.
I'm giving into the peer pressure too (family). I'll miss my pixel :(
But cheers to a new experience!
OR do still you recommend upgrading to 16pro and using an iPhone wide lens with 48mp better than using a third-party lens for this? thank you
We mainly switched to Google pixel 9 pro because of the image quality of the cameras. And everything is simple & powerful.
21:23
Exactly so The info in The video is wrong
The video explains it exactly. Talk about clutching at straws 🤦♂️, it's lame wired charging in late 2024. If it was anything at all decent Apple would shout it for sure. Look at the wireless, mentioned, yet even that's still below a number of iphone 14 era devices.
There is number of reviews that haven't been able to get beyond 30w. As the video says it can take in more for tasks but not for charging only.
@@Spoonfed78i have seen them pushing it to higher speed.
Are you using the iPhone itself to color grade? If so what app 🙏🏾
Enjoyed the video how were you recording the audio?
There should be a section in the review where you use Halides new process zero mode because there's way too much processing happening with the iPhone photos. This review is basically reviewing the software of the camera, whereas if you used Halides process zero, you'd be reviewing the actual camera hardware
Apparently the only 3rd party they seem theyre allowed to acknowledge is Blackmagic Camera App 🤷♂️
Any comments on Cinematic Mode on the iPhone 16PM?
Thanks again guys - great video ... as i am looking to upgrade to a newer iPhone (from my iPhone 11 Pro).
First time watching one of your videos. I really enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching!
What monitor does Jordan use to edit the HDR video? M1 iMac? Separate monitor. Video turned out great!
14” MacBook Pro. Much brighter than the iMac.
- Jordan
I don’t know. I think the pro raw photo quality on my 14 Pro is still pretty good. Not sure that the 16 would be a huge improvement. I’m not that concerned about video.
Of course it is not.
Great in depth review. Coming from an iPhone 14 Pro, there are some welcome improvements.
Thanks for a great review. I’m definitely going for the 16 pro. What mic do you use?
4:55 Correction, Apple has only ever removed one button, the home button, no other button has ever been removed.
Is the sound throughout the whole video just filmed through the phone/using the audio mix? No radio mics? If so that's pretty impressive!!
VERY helpful, thanks guys.
Love the HDR. Only way to look at photos and videos forward.
Great video. What audio were you using?
Rode Wireless Pro
Your thoughts on the 60 Herz screen and 8 gigs of ram in 2024? Great review btw. I'm on Oneplus 10 Pro concidering an iPhone 16 Pro/Max, but I think I will wait 3 or 4 years until the maybe come up with something really spectacular.
The footage looks great and the photos look nice too. It makes me wanna upgrade from my XS Max.
I would say wait for the 17, gonna be a massive upgrade with better Telephoto, 8k recording, multiple Pixel Shift mode and loads more
If you waited this long hold out one more year! Next one is going to be a redesign
My XS max took the best photos. I upgraded to the 14 pro max last year and regretted it so much. The newer cameras take such a sterile and cold photograph
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI yeah but the 18....
Absolutely get the standard phones. The main camera is the same but the ultrawide is not. Still the results will be similar for most situations.
I thought the video looked really good on the iphone! stick an ND filter on to get that 1/50 motion blur and its not a bad film camera in your pocket
Very thorough and great review gentlemen!
Thank you for the HDR review!
Odd they’re basically in the same place so I imagine it was supposed to be a thing last year
Yep, noticed that immediately
@@MrBearitall So Apple actually removed the third millimeter antenna and revamped the others to offer comparable response. That made way for the camera control button.
What about the minimum focus distance on each lens? That is a big deal especially on the 0.5 and 1X main lens.
Watching this before bed, the screen so bright. That hdr 😵
Top notch review! Keep up the GREAT work👏
I hope the sidecard xml is accessible in Lightroom
How to you rate 16 Pro Max for shooting moon?
My husband used Samsung 24 Ultra to take photo of a full moon, the image was amazingly clear. I took a photo of a full moon at the same time using my iPhone 13 Pro, the photo was awful without details.
I hope I could use my new iPhone 16 Pro Max to do some photography of the night sky without using a tripod, it it possible?
Please!! More content explaining JPG-XL in depth
For the ones wondering, you can see the flare at 4:07 near the shirts pockets. You're welcome.
Would an external hard drive be necessary for videography if I opted for the 1Tb hard drive?
Very nice presentation ! Thanks for educating us novice photographers.
What about thermal performance while video recording on a hot day?
I find the camera button hard to use. 🤔
Now that the pro and max have the same specs, if I upgrade, I will downgrade to the 16 pro, the max is a bit too big in my hand.
