This is my favourite 16 Pro review so far, and I have watched over two dozen! Love the footage, the editing, but above all the clarity in structure and explanation. Great video, 10 out of 10 - thank you for putting all that effort into it!
Stunning review! It's a very refreshing to find a review that focuses on daily life use and living with the tech day by day. The format of the video looks so good.
I like how you said, “the Capture Button feels like a gimmick and I went back to using the touchscreen”. Apple and *some* reviewers have been overhyping his new button like it’s the next best thing since sliced bread. But this button was not necessary and I wonder if Apple will ever remove the additional buttons. Good review as always.
I upgraded to the 16 pro from a 13 pro & I’m definitely happy wit the upgrade, it feels even more refined & has a good amount of changes & features to justify the upgrade. These days new iterations of phones are incremental so I’d say the upgrade time these days is 2+ years before you upgrade to see a difference so if you have anything older then the 13 you’ll definitely be happy
May I ask did you use (eg.RAW files and 4K videos) the professional features of the 13Pro much so hence went to the 16Pro? I’m considering trading in my 13Pro but for the base 16 cause that seems best value plus has great colours. But I’m thinking I might regret it as I do enjoy taking lots of macro and landscape photos for fun so will miss the better camera specs of the Pro line. Did you have the same thoughts before deciding on the 16Pro?
I have an iPhone 16 Pro in Desert Titanium on order. I am a keen photographer, and have been increasingly impressed over the years with what iPhone cameras can do, but still needed my camera for some shots, especially macro shots. But having seen what the 16 Pro can do, with really shallow DOF and great _bokeh,_ I reckon I may be able to put my 50mm f/1.2 macro lens out to pasture. And my iPhone 14 Plus already has way better battery life than my Sony R10 Mk 2 (I always have to bring several spare batteries on a long shoot). And the ability to take very different looking shots without lugging a lens bag and changing the lens, or swapping out filters... the convenience is just fantastic.
CAPTURE BUTTON: I don’t care for the features as much. But the button is very useful if I’m trying to record something in a second. Click the button to activate camera and initially starts recording and I’ve caught so many moments already that I would’ve missed using the touch screen
Aluminum has like a 240 watts per meter kelvin of thermal conductivity and titanium is 2.something lol, so the heat dissipation point checks out. Natural titanium does look beautiful though
I bought an iPhone 12 Pro a few weeks ago and I’d prefer this than the latest one, it’s still new and good use so until this iPhone can’t update or if it working good anymore, I’ll change it
Great cinematography as usual, I really love the places you’ve picked to test out the photo shots! 📷 Looks like iPhone 16 is quite an upgrade from the previous models mainly for its camera, but I agree that outside of that Apple really needs to catch up on the AI department as compared to their competitors! Hopefully there will be some major upgrades in this area later in the year, keen to see this as a long-time iPhone user!
Great video, really enjoying how you keep things simple yet detailed. Anyone able to tell me, photographic styles…do they not work for when you have pro max 48mp turned on?
This was a superb review! Thank you Andrew! I'm coming from an iPhone 12, so I expect a huge difference. Some reviewers are really knocking the iPhone 16 vs 15 as a let down...and yes version to version, some differences are subtle, but from a 12, like me, amazing difference. Awaiting my 16 Pro Max 1TB phone to arrive in a few weeks!!
The camera button is useful to quickly turn on the camera and that’s about it, but it would be nice if the press and sliding function can be customized for other things in the future, such as changing the volume with more precision, the original physical buttons will be available for customization too.
This is the iPhone that jumped the shark imo. They went from simplifying it to its most basic form (remove headphone jack, remove mute switch, remove home button) to ADDING a button that nobody asked for.
The iPhone 16 Pro's new feature reminds me of the MacBook Pro's Touch Bar-it might eventually disappear too. I doubt Steve would have considered this true innovation. It's just a fancy button doing the same job every other camera does. When smartphones first appeared, we were amazed that a single touchscreen could handle everything. Decades later, we're reintroducing physical buttons.
I currently have an iPhone 12 pro max. I'm wanting to upgrade to this new iPhone 16 pro max... but after seeing this video now I'm worried... You said it overheats..? I don't wanna deal with that. My 12 has NEVER overheated before or gave me a warning about it having to cool down... so now I'm not sure what to do.
I‘m a student and on a budget but need to upgrade my old IPhone 11. Most important things to me are the battery life and the camera. I would buy the 256gb version I don‘t like big phones. Should I buy the IPhone 16 or 16 pro?
Honestly it may be expensive now but I say you should go for 16 pro . It's guaranteed longevity with 120hz and if you're into video taking and editing it's stupid how good it is ..... If you don't care that much about video taking or refresh rate the regular 16 may be better it has almost every feature of the pro except for some camera stuff and data transfer speed
Wow, student on a budget? It's unwise for a student even to buy the lowest variant of 16. It's your money anyway 😅😅😅 There's a reason why head is higher than heart hahahaha
Thank you for the honest review of the iPhone 16 Pro! It’s always refreshing to see a straightforward assessment after just a week of use. Getting real feedback helps potential buyers make informed decisions. Appreciate your insights!
As someone that does street photography the new button is totally necessary. That said, yeah, who is that button useful for? Street photographers, and parents who don't want to miss a moment of their kids. Those are the only 2 use cases I'm seeing. For most folks, like you said, the old way works best.
Cannot find a iPhone 16 Pro or Max here in Thailand Apple stores. Need to order on line (3 wk delivery). There are line ups at Apple store every morning before doors open hoping to be first in store IF there is new 16 Pro/Max inventory arrival.
Thanks for another fantastic video Andrew, I was wondering if you would consider doing a video on all things eSIM because I don’t know too much about them
People might call me cheap lol 😂 but I personally went with the iPhone 16 plus in black with 256gb it’s a really great phone it has some of the pro features as the pro models, I’m really loving it.
Camera control is because the action button was basically a camera button for most. Now, you get to use the action button as the silence switch again. Also the camera is not as easy to access with iOS 18 if you customize the Lock Screen.
Good summary. I'm using 12Pro Max and wants to upgrade this year. I have tested the new camera button at Apple store last week, honestly, it's underwhelming.
I agree with everything you say in the video. I would just add that the biggest issue with most reviews (yours excluded) is that they keep comparing the phone only to last year model. And while it is legit argument I feel like every manufacturer has the same issue. They keep releasing the "S" versions of the last year model rather than "new" model. And that goes to Samsung as well as Pixel etc. So I think this Iphone 16 pro is for someone with older iphone like 12 or even 11 and not for someone with 15. I think Apple should have marketed it in this way and there would have been no issues. But overall nice review and cannot wait for my preordered iphone 16 pro max (coming from iphone 12 pro max) I am most looking forward to 120hz display and better battery life as my 12 pro max battery is very bad. I am also someone who changed their phone every 4 years so it is about time anyways :P
Yep, I still have my XS max for 5-6 years , upgrading to the 16 pro max. Looked at the comparison with my current phone and this will be a big upgrade for me😂
the iPhone 16 pro feels so good and it looks better in person lol so glad I went with this color.. im coming from an iPhone 13 so its a huge upgrade to me
I really enjoy the physical camera interface, even if it is a bit oddly located it’s nicely out of the way. Unlike the action button which I constantly mistake for volume which results in wrong volume adjustments regularly. My thing about the camera interface is I wish it was more than a camera interface, let me click to pause my music or swipe up and down to change my songs. Pause my videos, physical video scrubbing to jump to certain points in video media. The applications are limitless, why just the camera?
If I had a base iPhone 13 128gb would it be worth it for mobile gaming with double the ram and if I took photos on my phone quite often, would it be worth the upgrade to the 16 pro?
I would easily take an OS overhaul vs a newer chip at this point. The 15 Pro is already a beast, I’d rather have things like split screen apps, reverse wireless charging, etc. I also would prefer to keep the 3x on the Pro vs the 5x, or give it both like Samsung. Glad they upgraded the UW lens though.
If you're going from 12 Pro Max or even 13 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max then it makes a lot of sense. However, I'd be holding on to a 14 Pro Max for a while as comparing the 3 (14PM, 15PM, 16PM) the changes are still minimal and it is not justified to upgrade. I wouldn't upgrade just simply to use Apple Intelligence that's for sure...
@@SlyLix you can't, but not everyone is privileged as you it seems that this is a moronic comment. I'm talking about whether you would expend this amount of money to upgrade just for the purposes of utilising AI; perhaps read the comment first before blinding commenting next time.
I guess to counter with you a little, I've found the camera control button pretty useful. I've used it multiple times to easily take photos and videos without needing to look around the screen to turn the camera on. It gives that professional camera feeling of being able to immediately turn the camera on with a flick of a switch. And with actual use, I agree with you that the on-screen capture and focal length buttons more efficient to use, but when I adjusted the sensitivity to lighten and changed the default control to exposure instead, it really became a welcome addition for me. I've always found it cumbersome to touch focus and then slide up or down to adjust exposure. For the action button, you really do have to find a good shortcut to maximize it. I found a youtuber who made one that does different shortcuts depending on the orientation of the phone when you press it. But yeah they took too much time talking about those buttons tho :| For the design, I don't really mind them not changing the design drastically as it keeps the older gen iphones still looking good. My dad's still proudly rocking the X with little to no issues aside from battery life.
I just got mine and I've been accidentally bringing up the camera app constantly, it's frustrating and maybe it's my big hands. The switch to exposure control makes a lot of sense thanks for the suggestion.
I've been using my iPhone 16 Pro for the last week, and I've been messing around with the new Camera Control button. It really is just a gimmick, but I do enjoy using it and find it quite smooth for what I use it for (mainly just as a zoom in and out). Overall, I have been enjoying my experience with it, and am excited to see how Apple Intelligence works when that update comes out later this year!
I would recommend getting iPhone 14 or 15 I still love as today the only difference about 16 is camera control in u can shoot 4k 120fps but still have same features like others iPhones
I kind of agree about the Dex thing but at the same time I'm not that fussed about having a desktop interface. What I want is to be able to plug my phone into a monitor and output a game at native resolution of the screen that I am plugged in to and have the phone screen turn off to save power. This way I could play COD Warzone or something like that, with a BT controller and have my phone sit there with the screen off just pushing the image to the display. This would save power and heat.
Do you recommend going for 16 pro max instead of pro, because of the overheating you mentioned and smaller battery size, but at the same time I'm worried about 16 pro max being too big, but I'm assuming I might get used to, so I'm literally confused right now so please tell me your opinion
I have the 16 pro but it's still sitting in the box. I've been trying to see if anybody does a thermal comparison between the two under a heavy load. I finally went with the regular pro but keep hearing overheating is an issue so now I'm really thinking of switching to a 16 PM but want to see the test before I do
@@GU_WOP_O If overheating is an issue in regular 16 pro, switching to 16 pro max is a good idea because the 16 pro max has a larger footprint. As a result, there is a larger area for the heat to dissipate for the same chipset, and I suspect overheating also affects the battery life in the long run, adding to the already smaller battery in comparison
First thing I will don on new iPhone is disable the camera button. I put my hand literally where they put the button and will most of the time press it by accident
I got tired of the size/weight of my 14 Pro Max. I decided to get the 16 Pro, it should be here early in the week. Black Titanium 256g. I thought the 11 Pro Max at 6.5" was the perfect size, but the 6.3 will be fine. I likely won't use the AI much but the better zoom will be nice. Battery also shouldn't be an issue as I don't usually go beyond an hour to an hour and a half screen time in a day. I enjoyed the video. Thanks!
@@amber9384 I like the phone. Pictures are the usual quality and the battery is just fine with no issues making it through my night. I played with the capture button for awhile, then disabled it. Doing things from the screen is just easier for me. There are times I miss the larger screen, especially when texting but I am adjusting. I don't regret getting it.The smaller size definitely has its advantages!
I hope that the overheating is just a software issue that will be resolved. The 15 Pro Max had a similar issue when it was new and that got resolved pretty quickly. I have a 15 Pro Max and generally it runs pretty cool. If I am doing intensive stuff then it does get warm but never so hot that it's uncomfortable or worrying. Probably not great for the battery to get that warm though. I'm holding out for the 17 Pro Max and then I'll give my 15 Pro Max to my GF.
Being honest, it seems like the 16/pro actually is a pretty substantial quality of life upgrade while iOS 18.x supports a lot of older devices. It seems like a sensible entry into the ecosystem.
I went from a 14 Pro Max to the 16 Pro tonight. A bit of it was availability. I wanted 256 GB because that's what I had with the 14 Pro Max. Ended up sacrificing 0.4" of screen space from 6.7" to 6.3" but with the camera improvements and the processor, it's incredible. I will get used to the smaller size on the phone but it's so damn smooth. Pro Max is good if you're on your phone all day. For me, I try not to be so the pro made more sense.
Can you get that vibrant look using photographic styles? I mean just like colourful, not some wacky moody look. I have tried with the Photographic styles on the iPhone 15 Pro Max and by increasing warmth slightly and changing to tone towards the vibrant end you can kind of brighten up the photos a bit but you can't really increase the saturation. I don't always want this look but it is nice to have it sometimes.
Good question, if you want more control Lightroom and presets are still the way to go 9/10 times. Use photographic styles for a quick “look” but it’s limited in what it can do
@@AndrewEthanZeng Thanks! I usually just use the magic wand in the photo editor in the default photos app and then slide the slider left-right until it looks about right haha. I know it's pretty low-brow but it works for me. If I have a really special photo then I will start playing with individual settings but the magic wand works pretty well most of the time.
I would like to add from my experience, when you use camera with camera control button under hot sun, phone gets really hot 😮😮 there is absolutely no way other than turning off camera control so that it could reduce such heating

the iPhone 16 pro feels so good and it looks better in person lol so glad I went with this color.. im coming from an iPhone 13 so its a huge upgrade to me
I think the capture button would be best fast forwarding or rewinding while watching video. Oh well
How much worse are 3-4x photos on the 16 Pro than they were on the 15 Pro?
Nice review subscribed 😊
First they take away the buttons, then they add them… dang
S22 ultra for 16 pro max? What do u think about this?
4:30 hard disagree where the Action Button is regarded as something not useful.
Top tier brother.
Thank you for being honest.
Thank you for your honesty.
Apple intelligence not shipping with the 16 pro right away is just stupid and lazy.
people said the same thing with the original iPhone not shipping with 3G and GPS.
Agreed - I can’t wait to be surveilled even more
@@Chrishagendisable it if you don’t trust apple
@@blueforest595it’s built in if you think you can “disable” anything even if you’re given the fake option to do so then you’re severely mistaken.
@@mattsvoid Yes you can... know what you're talking about before you comment on it... DURRRRRRR.
Camera button is total garbage
agreed, and when you do press it, the force you use to push the button, messes up focus - insanely bad feature, I never use mine.
@@rakv48tu exactly
The only good thing is that it takes u to the camera buttton and I wish they actually had 45w wired charging or even faster.
It makes secure cases a total nightmare. What a dud of a feature.
I’m upgrading my 14 pm to a 16 pm for free. Cant argue with that.
@@SlyLix you can't, but not everyone is privileged as you it seems that this is a moronic comment. I'm talking about whether you would expend this amount of money to upgrade just for the purposes of utilising AI; perhaps read the comment first before blinding commenting next time.
Think I stay with touch screen, like your video & photo review since upgrading from XR
Great video👌
But yeah they took too much time talking about those buttons tho :|
For the design, I don't really mind them not changing the design drastically as it keeps the older gen iphones still looking good. My dad's still proudly rocking the X with little to no issues aside from battery life.
I just got mine and I've been accidentally bringing up the camera app constantly, it's frustrating and maybe it's my big hands. The switch to exposure control makes a lot of sense thanks for the suggestion.
@@schrodinger2986 In the settings (maybe accessibility section) you can change the button to require two presses if it's opening up by accident
@@ExtraordinaryFate Genius. Thank you!
How’s the battery performance?
@@maetan2682 Battery performance has been good so far! I’ve been on RTM release though.
@@maetan2682 Battery life has been good for me. I've only been charging it to 80% and it's been lasting me the entire day!
@@maetan2682 battery performance has been great! I currently on set it to charge to 80% and it gets me through the day with little issue.
Does iPhone 16pro Hong Kong version support apple intelligence in India??
Did you find any heating issues
It's running hot for me too. Good to know im not the only one.
16 PM has touch screen problems.
Overheating is "better"
First thing I will don on new iPhone is disable the camera button. I put my hand literally where they put the button and will most of the time press it by accident
Good review. Thanks! But..I can't stand when people take "ultra wide" photos in portrait mode (the photo "standing up") ;)
R u facing unresponsive touchscreen issues with this phone?
I got tired of the size/weight of my 14 Pro Max. I decided to get the 16 Pro, it should be here early in the week. Black Titanium 256g. I thought the 11 Pro Max at 6.5" was the perfect size, but the 6.3 will be fine. I likely won't use the AI much but the better zoom will be nice. Battery also shouldn't be an issue as I don't usually go beyond an hour to an hour and a half screen time in a day. I enjoyed the video. Thanks!
Update
I am glad someone else realized that the capture button is basically a rebranded Touch Bar that the MacBook had a while back.
can you save a picture style and use it as default?
I have a 13 pro max would you upgrade to the 16 pro or pro max?
I went from a 14 Pro Max to the 16 Pro tonight. A bit of it was availability. I wanted 256 GB because that's what I had with the 14 Pro Max. Ended up sacrificing 0.4" of screen space from 6.7" to 6.3" but with the camera improvements and the processor, it's incredible. I will get used to the smaller size on the phone but it's so damn smooth. Pro Max is good if you're on your phone all day. For me, I try not to be so the pro made more sense.
My brand new iPhone 16pro black changes wallpaper at night. Sucks.
This man’s day to day life is amazing.
I actually like the camera button. I remember there was a time people hated Apple for getting rid of the home button.
Still do
15 pro max or pixel 9 pro?
If I have a really special photo then I will start playing with individual settings but the magic wand works pretty well most of the time.
more phone reviews from you please!
I would like to add from my experience, when you use camera with camera control button under hot sun, phone gets really hot 😮😮 there is absolutely no way other than turning off camera control so that it could reduce such heating
i got the 16 pro max, and i am only getting 5hr of screen active time. Is that normal ?
16 pro is awesome
can you make a video about your Audi ETRON GT?
There is a short, beautiful Latin sentence that sums up each next iphone or apple innovation: "Nihil novi".
