Seems like most of the comments dissing it are from 380 owners who don't really like 380's performance but they're heavily invested in it and thus wary of a better researched, more efficient, capable caliber designed for cc that proves they're on the wrong boat. 30 Super Carry nicely fills the niche -- I've held up on getting a more compact 9mm for my cc, and I'm glad that I did. Kudos to Federal and to S&W for doing the research, putting careful thought into the design of this extremely useful caliber and firearm, and providing exactly what I've been looking for!
I am for the .327 fed. That is a awesome round. The .327 is even better out of a snubby with the right round it can give you .357 velocity with slightly less recoil. But, good luck on finding it.
@@justme294exactly, that’s what my sarcasm was toward. I can’t pick on anyone for falling for the marketing appeal, I fell for the WSSM craze when they came out. You should see the looks I get trying to buy ammo.
Smith & Wesson is one of my favorite brands I have a full size M&P 40 and a M&P Sheild 40 cal. love them both love how they shoot very accurate and reliable.
I don’t think this will be relevant enough for people to talk about. Thinking 5.7, yes it is a thing but I don’t know many people that own one or shots one.
@@POCASBL depends how many guns we get chambered in it. 5.7 has like 2 handguns available and both are full size. I think the carry market was the correct niche for 30sc
@LabRat Knatz but…we .40 shooters are pretty much flame proof by now…I’ll keep carrying and shooting it…I’m pretty “snappy recoil” (WTF that means 🙄) proof by now after all those years with.38/.357 in those lightweight S&W J frames 😱😱😱)…just sayin’ 😂😂😂
This new round is better than 380 and thinner than 9mm with nearly the exact same ballistics. This round is a must for 2 extra rounds, less recoil and better penetration and shock. Its a good round and you should be more open minded. People didn't like when revolvers where being replaced by Glocks and they also didn't like when 9mm was replaced with 40sw so it'll be the same with this new round. Its a new caliber and it has its perks which are very useful so pick one up when you het the chance and help support this new round. Im gonna buy one.
Not so sure about that. Depends on how many manufacturers adopt it. I think it's a very good idea. Capacity certainly can matter, even if it's only 2 or 3 more rounds. And a little less recoil is welcome on small guns and the potential for better availability is a good point too. And with very close performance to 9mm, it sounds like there's no real drawbacks. I'm hoping to see more gun designs use it this year, and I'll probably get one.
@@johnakridge2916 well 40 s&w is kind of a prime example of what I'm saying, a round that was a solution for a non existent problem, the market shows that well considering almost every new pistol coming out is in 9mm and demand for micro 9s is through the roof also you almost never hear about new 40 s&w model pistols being released so I'm thinking this one plays out just like 40 s&w, gets released, a few people like it and become die hards for it, everyone else loses interest, only a few companies release a few models chambered in it, fades out I'm sorry but 2 extra rounds for a almost as good 9mm caliber seems pointless to me
Federal is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist with the 30 Super carry. If you want to have something between 380 and 9mm you already have 9mm Makarov. This is just another round like the 32 H&R magnum, which was similar to the 38 special but a smaller diameter. 32 H&R Magnum died out just like this will, when people realize that 9mm is cheaper and more available. Federal says pricing is gonna be in the same area as 380, so more than 9mm. Granted it gives you a few more rounds but... most gun fights end in 3 shots so... why bother.
One of the problems is people are just panic buying ammo and the manufacturers are having problems keeping up. I also think the manufacturers know that they can control the prices and make more money so they aren’t producing as much, therefore keeping the costs high. If we would all stop buying it for just a few weeks we could enjoy cheaper prices, but that’s just my two cents…🤷🏻♂️
@@bpri9880 I haven't bought any ammo for two years. I stocked up years ago and haven't had to buy any since. What I am saying is I can't buy any less than I already am.
9mm Luger was a/the replacement for the 7.65mm X 21mm (30 Luger) over a 100 years ago. A rebirth of a old, old round. Might also be called a 32 acp magnum.
They should be concentrating on making ammo for the guns we already have and can hardly find ammo for them instead of another caliber that's going to cost more and even harder to find!!
It is an interesting proposition but I believe that the practical difference with 9mm Luger on one side and .380 ACP on the other is too small for anyone to abandon their favourite.
Just typical ignorance on part of the buying public. They are herd animals. Travel in huge packs & aren’t based on logic or reason. They move the markets without rhyme or reason. But what can you do?
@@very7962 exactly. Maybe the 30 SC improves performance for us who need extreme concealment so we're not forced to carry only .380. (There are no 9mm pistols as small as my Ruger LCP or KelTec P3AT)
I like the idea of the 30 Super Carry, but I'd prefer it in something slightly larger, like a 4" M&P 2.0 compact. With 17-18 rounds over 15 of 9mm? That's well worth a try!
@@alanpruett2217 I love my SP101 in .327 Fed Mag. It pairs nicely with my Henry Big Boy in .327. My father in law wants to experiment with custom hand loads,
In my area anyway, the 9mm Luger ammo went first and the others followed suit at intervals, but when people were scrambling for 9mm and .380, there was plenty of .40 S&W to be had along with some great deals on 10mm, giving me lots of time to stock up. One shop almost always had the most popular calibers (including 9mm and .380), but the prices were outrageous. Even .25 ACP and .32 ACP headed to orbit pricewise. In my opinion, the reason this caliber may survive better in tough times is simply because John Q. Public hasn't heard of it.
Run the comparison with a 115 gr +p. See if this new caliber is good as you think. Even a standard 115gr. Comparing a 100gr bullet and 124gr is a little bit apples and oranges.
Unknown to many, the Italians came up with just that years ago with the 7mm Penna. Screaming fast, compact and lightweight. Of course being Penna a small aficionado didn't get much visibility.
The Italians came up with it and 9x21 because "military" cartridges are banned there. Federal's propaganda reads like that's EXACTLY what they are trying to do here!
@@glockguide there really isn't an equivalent military cartridge to 7mm Penna. 5,7x28 is already on sale here too. But you're correct on the 9x21. Just days ago 9x19 has been decriminalized.
When Sig puts it in a P365, I may look at it. Basically an auto version of 327Federal. I like 327Federal a lot. Guy at gun shop tried to steer me to one yesterday afternoon. A Shield EZ. I have a P365 SAS ported in my pocket (which I bought from him). Give me that round in this ACTUAL ultra carry device and we might be onto something
Suppressor compatibility: You can use your 30 caliber suppressors with this 30SC round. The suppressor that you waited a year for, paid the gov $200, and the retailer $500-$1300. The suppressor you use for your 300 blackout, your 308, and all your other 30 cal rounds is compatible with 30SC. 9MM is too big for 30 caliber suppressors as is 380. You don't need to buy a separate special suppressor just for your 9mm if you carry 30SC. Engineered correctly you could theoretically use the same suppressor (with removable booster) for your compact concealed carry 30SC, your full size open carry 30SC, your PCC 30SC, your 300 BLK SBR/pistol, your 5.56 carbine, and your 6.5 Creedmoor and 308 deer rifles.
@@billsiegloff2150 "32" cal is really .312" so yeah you can. Suppressors usually have around. .050" clearance in the bores to account for misalignment in the threads But you are probably right about the weight
I like the .380 because it is a lighter gun barrel and ammo weight for concealed carry. It lends itself to a smaller carry profile and magazine #comfort #pocketcarry I chose the glock 42 over the glock 43.
When they come out with something new everyone thinks it has to be for everyone. This is is not for everyone. It's a niche that will be excellent for some people and not be the best option for others. No one is being forced to give up their other stuff to buy this. I think it's awesome someone is coming out with some new stuff. Major props to Federal for doing it. It's exciting to see something new that isn't just a 9MM. I think this could really bring some awesome "micro 30 supers" versus the .380 too. I'd love a LCP max in 30 super or a much higher capacity bodyguard. 380 is still pretty hard to get (versus 9MM), so this allows Federal to price it higher as well. Whereas most shops are selling 9s for around $19.99 per box, i'll expect this to be around $29.99 per box, which is largely what .380 goes for these days. Maybe they'll sneak it in a little lower and then quickly raise the price, I hope that doesn't happen. I also hope other manufacturers pick up on it too. It will be fairly available early on I think (after a few weeks anyway). Regardless, I think this is exciting and there can be some cool new stuff to come out of it. Thanks for the video!
I like the EZ9 too! Traded my G48 and P365XL in on two of them! I don't need it to be EZer, but I like that it is. One of, if not _the_ greatest feats of combat pistolcraft was accomplished by Lt Van Vuuren with an 8 shot compact 9mm pistol. He stopped 11 men armed with AK47s. The EZ is a better pistol than what he had (Star BM).
Used to love this channel, now I'm watching a 9 minute commercial for Federal. I guess when the next apocalypse happens and 30 Super Carry is not on the shelves, I'll be able to get some from 22P? Sounds like he's making a promise there at the end.
Interesting but bad timing I think , they want people to buy a new gun and new ammunition when you cant even find ammunition for the gun you already have ? Not to mention this caliber has almost zero credibility it could have major flaws. We know 9mm and 380 are reliable platforms.
_New sub'r here. Because of your review, I went straight to my gun dealer and picked this up. S&W offered 3 extra mags free for freedom week, too. Scored_
So I really wish they would put out larger higher capacity guns in the caliber as I think it would shine much more there. If a single stack mag gets 2 extra rounds, then a double stack might get up to 4 extra rounds. I own a Glock 48 with shield arms S15 magazines that hold 15 rounds of 9mm. I loaded the mags with 32 auto just to see how many would fit. I got 18 rounds in the mag and only needed less than 1/8" more clearance to fit a 19th round, which I'm betting could actually be fit in the gun if the mag were specifically designed for it. 19+1 in a slimmer Glock 19 footprint sounds pretty incredible to me.
@@talisikid1618 Not a "fear", just reluctance for the need to be purchasing yet another caliber. I already have difficulty with enough storage space as it is.
@@andrewtubbs69 Yeah I would like to see a lighter, faster load like a TSX out of a longer barrel with the right powder. Might hit respectable velocities but also have affordable subs, with low recoil and high capacity... also simple and cheap soft point designs might expand at those velocities, which is always nice instead of buying premium HST/ Gold Dots
IDK what this comment's supposed to mean. .30 super carry is a new round, the fact that it doesn't break the laws of physics and produce ballistics never before seen isn't a refutation of that.
Ok 22. You sold me. I a .45 cal. Fudd. It's what I carry. This would be a nice backup gun and caliber. I've not seen any 30 Super Carry rounds or pistols in my neck of the woods yet. I don't do on line as I try and support my local gun stores, we'll see if and when it shows up here.
Maybe some day, but for now my 9mm's work, and I've never felt underpowered carrying my .380. And after doing some (a lot of) research on the effectiveness of .380, statistically in real world situations, I feel it gets an undeserved reputation for weakness as a personal defense caliber. Seems it makes graves just as good, if not better, than a lot of other rounds.
I think part of that stems from the old ( and formerly true ) stigma of 9mm being underpowered compared to 45. Back in the 80s, sure. But bullet and propellant technology has come a long way since then. I bet you could make a very competent .32 ACP round nowadays.
Yep, don't think people realize that small pocket calibers like .380 and .32acp are effective rounds. They are belly guns, or get off me guns for concealed carry, not combat, go to war guns. I have no problem carrying my p-32 or my lcp380 or even my naa mini revolver. One of them, the mini revolver more often than not, is always in my pocket. Regardless whether or not I am carrying my LCR357 or Sig P290RS. Now let's flip to the other hand. I'm a revolver guy, and bought the 327 federal magnum when it came out. Love testing new calibers. However, 327 is a hard round to find in the wild. Guessing this new .30SC will be the same. The reason I keep a 32acp, 380, or 22mag in my pocket, is because of availability of ammo. Right now, the only choices I see on the shelves are .22LR,.22mag, and 9mm, that tells me all I need to know before wasting money on anything in a new caliber.
There may be a little wink-wink here. The diameter is 11% smaller, so there's no way to stuck 10 rounds into a formerly 8-round magazine. So they gave the EZ an extended baseplate. With it, they could've stuck 9 rounds of 9mm in there.
It didn't add up for me either. Going just by bullet diameter .355 - .313 = .042 x 9 = .378, enough for 1 round only. This of coarse with single stack mags. Double stack mag might get 2 more rounds in them.

I am looking to upgrade my wife from the 380 and this looks great. Gona need something like the Hellcat in this cal. That would almost be up to a full frame gun in capacity.
@@joecat101 Indeed 2 column magazines increase the gain twice. Although, by looking at just the drawings, 12 of 30SC still take a tiny little bit more than 10 of 9mm.
If people bought into the whole .40 gap idea This will sell for sure..! And make more sense.., more ammo available, 2 more rounds, easier rack, less recoil, smaller carry. 👍👍👍
I can see my MIL and wife both loving the S&W EZ and the .30. Both are small in stature and not overly strong which makes a Glock 42 or 43 difficult to use. My MIL cannot rack most semiautos and my wife can rack her Glock, but not quickly and with a lot of effort. Glad to see some innovation!
I`m not onboard. It`s not a bad gun or caliber but why? It`s going to be expensive to shoot and that`s if you can find the ammo. The 5.7 is a perfect example of this also. If you want one that`s cool.
I have never been a fan of The shield, I do like how streamlined it is but single stack 9 mm 8 + 1 capacity just kills it for me. But great video I cannot believe I have not heard of this new ammo. I will definitely have to pick me one up. People of course are stockpiling ammunition but most police agencies have abandoned the 40 Smith & Wesson to return to 9 mm so I think that's putting a strain in itself on ammunition availability but that's just one factor. Thanks for the upload definitely interested I have been a fan of .380 for some time. Although it has faced a lot of scrutiny of not been a good defensive round, to me it depends on the shooters knowledge and skill when it comes to shot placement ECT.
Maybe I’m just a turd to question why this caliber now…but really why? especially when manufacturers are having issues (sometimes more or less) providing ammo in the “older regular” chamberings why we as a community need this now? Seems to me this new caliber is being “pushed” by content creators for economic reasons (much like OLight products on a regular basis)…that being said, I do enjoy Plinkster’s content and please forgive me if this comment seems inappropriate 😐😐😐
The 30SC has an extremely high chamber pressure for a handgun. Higher than 10mm, approaching that of a .223 rifle. You need high end metallurgy and design tools to make a light pistol reliable with those pressures. If you can figure it out though, you get similar performance with higher capacity. Basically the same idea as changing from 45 to 9mm
If this concept of max pressure pistol cartridges is going to be happening regardless, why not run a hybrid case like the sig 277 fury on the 22 tcm and actually get 5.56 rifle performance out of a full sized pistol? Or use a S&W X frame revolver to chamber 7 70k+ psi 357 magnum cartridges to drive 125 grain bullets at over 2000 fps with full 7.5 in barrels? Or just cut off the necking on the .277 fury, leave it at 1.250 in, making it into a perfect .429 fitting straight wall. Fit a nice 44 magnum bullet in there and drive it at 50%+ more energy. I still think taking like a 5.7 or 22 tcm and giving them rifle like ballistics utilizing those hybrid casings would be incredible.
100% agree with the OP. 22p, you have to understand that pushing a new round while your viewers watching on at the seemingly decreasing volume manufacturers are putting out to keep demand and prices high leaves a lot to be desired. Your community would love to see this angle in a video from one of your ammo sponsors. Why do we have to hunt and peck for ammo. There's no reason over the last 5 years production cant be stepped up. Seems super shady IMO.
@@simplegreen6596 there’s two major factors in play that I think you might not be considering: First, developing a new cartridge and building up a production line for mass manufacturing takes several years. This is not a sudden announcement (although the timing isn’t great) Second, the ammo shortage was mostly caused by new gun buyers increasing demand which spooked the people who shoot a lot, causing them to buy up all they could. So we have new shooters who likely won’t need that much ammo in the long run and experienced shooters who have been stocking up. Demand is going to fall off and the manufacturers don’t want to have excess capacity when that happens
@@groundblast12 So, i get it, and trust me i with you on the R&D. Im in the world so i understand the long haul that a new product has to go through. That said, the second point, im not so sure about. I mean i WANT to believe that. BUT, Every election cycle we see the same thing. You could set a watch to it. Increase demand, low supply. I argue, artificially low. I understand there is global supply chain issues. I understand that ammo and gun manufacturers are building in insurance cash flow for the inevitable asinine law suit where someone's irresponsibility is pushed on the manufacturers. That all said, i'd like to see a true and honest video from Remington, or cci or S&W on what the actual output of their lines are, the actual raw materials they have available to them and how that maps to a shortage. I think that transparency will make it easier to stomach paying .10 a round for .22 or 1.50 a round for .556. I think 22p has the staying power to get a video like that made. In the mean time, i made a concerted effort years ago to know what rounds i wanted to shoot, only buy those platforms so i didn't have a safe full of guns and cant find any ammo for it. This round will be no different. .02
I wouldn't say it's "bridging the gap". Higher capacity and lower recoil with nearly the same terminal performance as 9mm. It definitely has a place in the defensive carry market. Only downsides at the moment are the limited ammo supply and limited choice of pistols. Both of which will remedy themselves if the fudds get their heads out of their backsides. "Solution looking for a problem", "Should be making more of X caliber", "small boolit no gud". This is why we still have ammo designs that are over a century old. That said, I would want to see if this round does actually perform as advertised. But I'm not going to crap all over it because it's new and don't understand how it works.
Eh not quite the same, but still quite good. Very similar to early 2000s 9mm HP ammo(which is excellent tbh)..... In actual tests using similar styles and loads of modern 9mm/.30 SC ammo, it expands about 8-10% less, and weighs 25% less, and 10% less energy. the ability to have an extra 2 rounds is real nice though for carry guns!
@@enricomandragona163 If that were the case everyone would still be carrying 45 Colts. Just because something is popular doesn’t mean that it’s the best for everyone. Firearms evolve. So should the ammunition
Oh, so, like a buck a round for fmj range ammo? Wrong economy to be delivering new cartridges that there is no need for when both .380 & 9mm are still ridiculously over priced. It'll be another. 357 sig. D.O.A.
We have lived through over 30 months of an ammo crunch where you had to "know someone" to even find anything to shoot, regardless of the price. I would consider buying this if the ammo has a comparable price to 9MM ammo and as available. I don't need another gun that is too expensive to shoot. Shooting is getting as expensive as going to Disneyland.
That’s hilarious, true and a great comparison. And we stopped buying Disneyland Passports over 10 years ago. Looks to me like Federal is a good 5 years late on this.
Ammunition is available, maybe not if you limit your search to Walmart. Expensive yes, but available. You can thank your friends who purchase in order to stockpile five lifetimes worth of shooting, "just in case".
These days 9mm is twice the price or more than it was 3 years ago. Now 9mm costs what .380 used to cost. I imagine the .30 SC will be priced higher than .380 acp because there isn't the demand for it. 9mm will always be cheaper because of the popularity of it. They make so much and so does everyone else that it stays cheaper. The cost of the tooling and machines to make the .30SC will be passed to the customer. Just assuming that it costs 1 million dollars for the equipment to make it and assuming the materials to make it cost the same as .380. There are more firearms chambered in .380 and more customers buying .380. So they make more .380. That 1 million dollars in equipment gets spread accross millions of rounds of .380 sold, where the .30sc only has limited firearms and hardly anyone buying it right now. The equipment cost is getting spread to fewer rounds. That means each round will cost more.
@@hocuspocus4871 Referencing what Federal has stated, the self defense rounds will be positioned at .380 price point, the practice ammo might be slightly more expensive than practice .380 offerings. Federal is going to push distributors to price it where the caliber can take hold, no matter what Federal's ROI might be in the beginning.
The Federal HST has the same energy as some 9mm. It's not really a bridge; it's a modern improvement on 9mm, specifically designed for conceal carry, unlike 9mm.
The problem with 380 is that its same case diameter as 9mm. Make it a real .30 and not .32 like this thing. Overall, im not willing to just get 2 more rounds for exotic ammo that is over pressured. Give me 4 extra rounds with 70 percent of 9mm. Pass on this. This woulda been best during time of single stacks...now with p365 gx4 hellcat make this really uncalled for.
A full size pistol with flush fit 20 or 21 round magazines would be pretty cool. An XDM (5.75") should get 22 or 23 rounds in a flush fit, Glock 17 (5.5") size should be 20 or 21 rounds.
Thank you! Glad to see others understanding this point. Two extra rounds in micro compacts isn't a huge deal when you have so many in regular 9mm that already have 10 and 11+1. But duty sidearms with 20+ rounds in flush magazines that aren't 5.7? That could be a big thing.
@@justinlabar1733 19 and that's only because it's taller than a standard duty pistol. Most duty pistols are 5.5" but the P09 and XDM are 5.75". They could hold 22 or 23 rounds of 30 super carry
To me, I like to compare it to what .32 H&R Magnum (same 0.31" bullet diameter as .30 Super Carry) gives you in revolver. If you move from .38 Special +P (.357 Magnum is much hotter than 9x19, so that's not fair) to .32 H&R Magnum, you get an extra round or two in the cylinder with similar energy. Likewise, if you move from 9x19 to .30 Super Carry, you get similar energy, but with an extra couple of rounds in the magazine.
It's an interesting concept, but I'll be over here smiling quietly with my 10mm, which I'm happy to say is a round making a big comeback, and rightly so.
@@AnthonySmith-sc4zs Hey, 10mm was one of the major reasons why I got into reloading over thirty years ago. Thanks to that, I have about 2K 10mm rounds in my locker. ;_
There is always someone who needs the newest widget to feel good about themselves. Plus, there is also a crowd of people who think a certain magic load out will allow them to perform better then people without their “magic” bullet as if it could substitute actual practice. So suffice to say, even without “survivalist” stockpiling stuff in this caliber, it will sell. Three or four major ammo suppliers already committed to loading for it. Also, as far as I know, it is actually a totally new case design and it is definitely not a wildcat cartridge as it was 100% a firearm manufacturers creation and also has commercial loadings available for it and factory firearms chambered in it. For those reasons, I don’t think you understand what a wildcat cartridge actually is.
I'm very surprised by the amount of anger expressed regarding this cartridge. Doesn't everyone understand that nobody is making them give up their favorite cartridge to buy the 30 SC? As a shooter I'm always interested in new cartridge developments. If the particular round introduced doesn't fill a niche for me that's ok. I'm just happy to learn about new developments. You would think most people would feel this way but apparently it is not the case with this cartridge.
I don't think they're angry about it, i just think they don't get the point of this caliber, myself included, lots of calibers already bridge 380 to 9mm so it feels like a solution to non-existent problem
I think a lot of it has more to do with years of ammo and component shortages, along with insane prices for what little you could find. Still going on, by-the-way. Now one of the big producers comes out and says: Hi kids! We've poured resources into something totally new! It's not really new; a modernized .32 French Long, essentially.
@@robertl6196 I totally agree with you on the bias against it. Regular calibers are not on the shelf and even this new round will be hard to find for a long time.
@@rustyshackleford9604 I like the "King of the Hill" name reference. Dale Gribble. I know Federal has stated that one of the reasons for it is to bridge the gap between 380 & 9mm but that seems like a stretch as the new cartridge performs much more like a 9mm than a 380. I think the real push is the increased capacity and a little less recoil with nearly the same performance as a 9mm. For those that want the extra capacity and maybe a little less recoil this will could make them happy. I'd like to see the case cut a 1mm shorter with just 100 fps less velocity and see if it could be made to work in a Ruger LCPII sized gun. This would give us 75% 9mm power in a 380 sized and weight package.
I'm old enough to remember when everybody bitched about 40 Smith & Wesson being a gun-breaker high pressure round at 35,000 PSI, and now comes Federal with handgun ammo at 50,000 PSI chamber pressure.... Also, saying that this caliber makes sense because you can't find 9mm on the shelf is ridiculous when you realize that they're dedicating production space for this boutique caliber, instead of making more 9mm......
Well now this was a interesting video, but there is just no way that I would give up on my proven 9 mm and it's hard enough finding 9 mm sometimes. I don't think the manufacturer's going to step up to the plate and make sure you can get all of the 30 super that you want and then you have to buy the pistol that accepts that 30 super cartridge when almost everybody has a 9 mm. This just doesn't make any sense to me and I don't see this cartridge catching on at all.
For the micro 9mm pistols you should be able to get 15 rounds in a flush fit magazine in some of them that's a huge amount of fire power for a pocket pistol, Also it will be interesting to see the possible power increases when underwood and other loaders start trying to max the power with a +p+ in something like the S&W shield plus performance center 4" or 365xl or hellcat Pro with a threaded barrel and comp brake combo maybe we will start seeing over 500fpe with the decent barrel length, 15 rounds of over 500fpe and a flush magazine would really be a big advance in micro carry
Love it. If you could figure out a way for us to hear the far away steel hits that would be cool. Cause I can’t tell when your hitting far off ones cause I can’t see them.
@LabRat Knatz obviously it would need beefed up in some areas. And it definitely wouldn’t be a fun gun to shoot lol. But I’ve got several days a week at work where an LCP2 in my back pocket is about the only option I have. And it would be nice to have a bit more punch than 380
Yeah, but is 9x18 supported in new shooter pistols, carry pistols, cheap import ammo or reloadable ammo? It used to be cheap ammo for small and inexpensive pistols, but the pistols are as cheap and neither is the ammo. If you want a more modern pistol, 9x18 isn't supported well, (Which is a shame.)
Just an absolutely pointless round. Will be fun to see Ian talk about it on Forgotten Weapons in a few years, though You're better than this, you don't have to shill people that trust you out of their money. This video is a Federal commercial, not a review.
380 and 30 super carry are selling @ $30-35 a box of 50 FMJ 9mm is 16.99 @ the gun shop I go to if you buy their 6 box deal 300 rds. 99.99 and $20 a box less than 6 boxes. I don't think it was some years in the making move for S&W to put a 30 S C barrel and spring into a platform they already make.
It is interesting. But I think there is another use case people have not looked into. Competition. A 100 grain projectile at 1250 fps will make minor power factor. If this is actually the case, then it would be the obvious choice over 9mm in any minor competition assuming you found a competition pistol chambered in it. If you really got an extra 20% out of any given magazine then your 17 round mag becomes a 20, your 21's are now 25's, etc.
I know I am an odd ball .. But would it make sense to use the 30 supercarry in revolver, like a Ruger LCR. The thinner casing may allow for more bullets in the cylinder.
Thank you! Supposedly this 30 super carry round is generating 50,000 PSI....True??? So 9mm generates 35,000 psi and 380 ACP generates 21,500 psi. ...I wonder how much recoil and blast in a Ruger LCP MAX converted to 30 Super Carry? They most likely won't be able to convert a pocket 380 because of this..It will probably need to be locked breach, not blowback. LOTS of muzzle flash here. So it's really more about it challenging 9mm...This is where price, availability and street reliability comes in. Most of us have several 9mm firearms and lots of ammo...The .357 Sig round generates 40,000 PSI. We shall see.
Looks like a solid new addition. If the ammo is equal or less than .380 pricing, then it may be a huge success. How cool would it be to have that in a S&W Bodyguard sized pew pew for deep concealment? I don't see it taking the place of my P365's, but it is good to have options.
Finally! Something to bridge the gap btwn 9x17, 9x18 & 9x19!!!

It’s a shame too, .357Sig is a great round. I bet more people go for the .30 SC though, but it’s never going to outperform the popularity of 9mm.
I am for the .327 fed. That is a awesome round. The .327 is even better out of a snubby with the right round it can give you .357 velocity with slightly less recoil. But, good luck on finding it.

30 super carry is just going to give the 9mm and 45acp guys another caliber to hate besides 40.
Not true, some people will turn from 9mm to it

@@POCASBL depends how many guns we get chambered in it. 5.7 has like 2 handguns available and both are full size. I think the carry market was the correct niche for 30sc

Meh i kinda feel like it's a caliber that will end up on forgotten weapons in the next few years, just a niche caliber solving a non-existent problem
Pretty much. Things like 1 or 2 more rounds of capacity is just nit picking at this point.
@@johnakridge2916 well 40 s&w is kind of a prime example of what I'm saying, a round that was a solution for a non existent problem, the market shows that well considering almost every new pistol coming out is in 9mm and demand for micro 9s is through the roof also you almost never hear about new 40 s&w model pistols being released so I'm thinking this one plays out just like 40 s&w, gets released, a few people like it and become die hards for it, everyone else loses interest, only a few companies release a few models chambered in it, fades out I'm sorry but 2 extra rounds for a almost as good 9mm caliber seems pointless to me
@@johnakridge2916 do you really think revolvers were replaced by glocks? Lol that struck me as hilarious.
I think the shield ez is a great pistol, its not only a good cc but its enjoyable at the range
Granted it gives you a few more rounds but... most gun fights end in 3 shots so... why bother.
Just let me purchase some primers and you can keep these new unneeded chamberings for the far future…just live in the present for Pete’s sake 😳
I would be scared to invest in a new caliber until the manufacturers start keeping up with demand on ammo
That is a valid point.
It's a conceal carry round. You don't need 5k of them ready to go. When SHTF it's time to pull out full size anyways...

The .380 ACP is nobody’s favorite.
It is the definition of compromise. Especially in pocket sized handguns that are smaller than micro 9s.
@@very7962 exactly. Maybe the 30 SC improves performance for us who need extreme concealment so we're not forced to carry only .380.

Interesting but bad timing I think , they want people to buy a new gun and new ammunition when you cant even find ammunition for the gun you already have ? Not to mention this caliber has almost zero credibility it could have major flaws. We know 9mm and 380 are reliable platforms.
The price of this round on line is enough to say no at this point.
Thanks so much for the review on this caliber.
This would be petty cool call it the micro 19, idk, I want a glock in 7.62x25 go figure , so don't take what I say too seriously lol

IDK what this comment's supposed to mean. .30 super carry is a new round, the fact that it doesn't break the laws of physics and produce ballistics never before seen isn't a refutation of that.

I think a necked down .30 super carry round with a .25 caliber bullet will be a screamer.
Joe Kenda was at a lot of murder scenes where there were 380s, 32s and 25s.
It can be a fatal mistake to not respect any caliber bullet.
Or just get some +P 380 ammo and you're approaching the same energy as this federal executives pet project.

@@simplegreen6596 there’s two major factors in play that I think you might not be considering:
First, developing a new cartridge and building up a production line for mass manufacturing takes several years. This is not a sudden announcement (although the timing isn’t great)
Second, the ammo shortage was mostly caused by new gun buyers increasing demand which spooked the people who shoot a lot, causing them to buy up all they could.
This round will be no different. .02
Split opinions I see. Thank you for all your work, you have an excellent channel....
It basically bridges the gap. It's lighter than 9mm on average, and about as quick so it's right in the middle.
My concerns come up with what kind of chamber pressure this is pushing.
The century old rounds are still available because gun manufacturers still make those guns & rifles! You can't fix what ain't broken.
@@enricomandragona163 If that were the case everyone would still be carrying 45 Colts. Just because something is popular doesn’t mean that it’s the best for everyone. Firearms evolve. So should the ammunition
That's just we need, a gun that nobody asked for in a caliber that nobody stocks. Genius.

Oh, so, like a buck a round for fmj range ammo? Wrong economy to be delivering new cartridges that there is no need for when both .380 & 9mm are still ridiculously over priced. It'll be another. 357 sig. D.O.A.
Reload.
Nice looking forward to it
Can’t wait to try it out. Pretty fast bullet
It's not in stock anywhere, even with a VERY limited amount of guns that can shoot it.
I picked mine up couple weeks ago ez Shield 299.00 great price and great round
When they come out with a P365 sized firearm carrying 15-16 rounds of 30 super carry this caliber will make sense and really start to sell.
An XDM (5.75") should get 22 or 23 rounds in a flush fit, Glock 17 (5.5") size should be 20 or 21 rounds.
yeah beretta 92 should fit 20-22 rounds also flush!
Thank you! Glad to see others understanding this point. Two extra rounds in micro compacts isn't a huge deal when you have so many in regular 9mm that already have 10 and 11+1.
But duty sidearms with 20+ rounds in flush magazines that aren't 5.7? That could be a big thing.
Pretty sure a cz p09 is 20 rounds with a flush fit magazine
@@justinlabar1733 19 and that's only because it's taller than a standard duty pistol. Most duty pistols are 5.5" but the P09 and XDM are 5.75". They could hold 22 or 23 rounds of 30 super carry
@@justinlabar1733 Also, the P09 was hands down the worst POS pistol I've ever owned.
We don't need another round.caj l.
Might not be for everybody, but it is probably perfect for a lot of folks. More rounds + less recoil = more hits. Don't like it? Don't buy it.
I would have been perfectly fine with concentrating more on producing 9 mm, than some exotic new flavor.
Well this definitely sounds like a great new round, let’s hope it catches on and more manufacturers make more guns for it!
Until ammo availability and pricing change, I'm not adding any new calibers to my collection. Nothing against 30 Super.
I can't wait for the 30 super carry performance center
I think this will be great in pistol caliber AR platforms. Especially out of a 10.5 or even a 16 inch barrel.
It's an interesting concept, but I'll be over here smiling quietly with my 10mm, which I'm happy to say is a round making a big comeback, and rightly so.
Same. Now if I could just find more decently priced ammo for mine…
@@AnthonySmith-sc4zs Hey, 10mm was one of the major reasons why I got into reloading over thirty years ago.
Thanks to that, I have about 2K 10mm rounds in my locker.
;_
No one is going to buy that ammo and pistol. It's a wildcat round and no survivalist is going buy bulk ammo of it.
As a reloader if I could get brass, dies and the pistol I'd be able to make thousands of rounds in no time
There is always someone who needs the newest widget to feel good about themselves.
@@kygunworks4982 wow!
Is that how reloading works??
Nobody around here understands that.

I'm gonna buy one . A Equalizer in .30 super carry. It makes sense !

People just like to complain, and this is a new bandwagon they can jump on in order to whine.
Aim, shoot and dont miss ;) An old advice from a generation gone by. Plinkster knows what Im typing about.
Nice infomercials!
For the micro 9mm pistols you should be able to get 15 rounds in a flush fit magazine in some of them that's a huge amount of fire power for a pocket pistol,
Also it will be interesting to see the possible power increases when underwood and other loaders start trying to max the power with a +p+ in something like the S&W shield plus performance center 4" or 365xl or hellcat Pro with a threaded barrel and comp brake combo maybe we will start seeing over 500fpe with the decent barrel length,
15 rounds of over 500fpe and a flush magazine would really be a big advance in micro carry

Love it. If you could figure out a way for us to hear the far away steel hits that would be cool. Cause I can’t tell when your hitting far off ones cause I can’t see them.
I want to see some deep carry guns in this 30SC! Like a ruger LCP2 that you could carry in a Speedo, but have nearly the power of a 9mm
it would blow that pistol apart
@LabRat Knatz obviously it would need beefed up in some areas. And it definitely wouldn’t be a fun gun to shoot lol.
But I’ve got several days a week at work where an LCP2 in my back pocket is about the only option I have. And it would be nice to have a bit more punch than 380
Between a 380 and a 9mm…isn’t that a Makarov round?
Yeah, but is 9x18 supported in new shooter pistols, carry pistols, cheap import ammo or reloadable ammo? It used to be cheap ammo for small and inexpensive pistols, but the pistols are as cheap and neither is the ammo. If you want a more modern pistol, 9x18 isn't supported well, (Which is a shame.)
30 Super: A round in search of purpose.
Just an absolutely pointless round.
Will be fun to see Ian talk about it on Forgotten Weapons in a few years, though
You're better than this, you don't have to shill people that trust you out of their money.
Looks like a nice piece. Might be my next. I have a 22 , 380 , 3 -9mm , 1 1911 45acp , 1 10mm and 1 44mag . Maybe even a 40mm on my hit list

A new proprietary gun for new cartridge? I'm listing.
My hands need this gun. Excellent

Minus that little bitty thing called minimum diameter....
@@Jeffferguson1911 tis a silly rule. but correct.
Hey man, can you do another tippmann m4 22 video?
I know I am an odd ball .. But would it make sense to use the 30 supercarry in revolver, like a Ruger LCR. The thinner casing may allow for more bullets in the cylinder.
This is 45GAP..
357sig.... But without the laters punch
Congratulations you have been selected among our shortlisted winner, contact the number above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So what caliber production will be sacrificed to produce the new ammo?
Looks like a solid new addition. If the ammo is equal or less than .380 pricing, then it may be a huge success. How cool would it be to have that in a S&W Bodyguard sized pew pew for deep concealment? I don't see it taking the place of my P365's, but it is good to have options.
Have you bought 380 lately?
It's pretty expensive. I get 9mm for less
It's going to end up priced very close to 380. It's going to end up living or dying in a smaller platform than your P365.
It ended up being close to the price of 9mm. Geez, ppl just say whatever to stay around the old rounds.
