The 30 super carry, does the same wound channel as the 9mm and penetration is 2 to 5 inches deeper in ballistics gel with and without 4 layers of denim. Same damage, deeper penetration, higher capacity in the same size pistol, means it out performs the 9mm. I trust the 9mm and I trust the 30 super carry for self defense.
Gel isn't a true test and it doesn't have the track record established but it does sound promising.
@@TerriblyTactical nothing is perfect but it is used along with 4 layers if denim by the fbi and its the most consistent test we have. It gives a consistent baseline. In that baseline so far 30 super carry out performs 9 mm when it comes to penetration by a considerable margin, and the would channel is virtually identical. Thrown in higher capacity in the same size pistol and virtually the same recoil impulse and it simply out performs 9 mm. Having said that , for self defense I am satisfied with the performance of the 9mm with the best ammo and the capacity of most 9 mm handguns . I will carry 30 super carry in my rotation of self defense pistols. For defense against dangerous game however 45. 10 mm and in in some cases 357.mag all with hardcast or solid copper bullets would be my choice.
@@rustyyates421 i agree with everything you said but 45 for dangerous game. 10mm yes, 357 magnum yes, 45 acp no.. the penetration isn't there.. I would take 40 s&w and 357 sig over 45 acp for that application
@michaelgandy4684 the 45 colt is superior to all of those rounds by far unless you're shooting factory loads. I should clarify that if you you use the proper ammunition which would be a a hardcast or solid copper projectile and at least 200 grains , preferably 250 to 300 grains at over 1000 fps and preferably at higher velocities like 1200 to 1400 fps from a handgun or even higher velocities from a rifle, it simply is superior. The 10mm is acceptable and even the 357.mag as well , but they pale in comparison to the 45 colt with the above ammo and firearms. The 45 is capable of shooting up to 360 grain loads at over a 1000 fps from a handgun. The 10 mm maxes out at 230 and the 357s best heavy load is at 180 gr. There is the discussion to have about getting off second accurate shots off with the hot 45 loads. A 10 mm and 357 are easier to shoot because of the lighter velocities compared to hot 45s
A 45 super and 45 smc in 45 acp make them also superior to the 10 mm and 357. 45. I have the 45 colt handguns, 10mm and 357 nag.
My personal loads for 45 colt defense and hunting rounds in my ruger blackhawk are 250 hardcast wide flat nosed bullets at 1150 fps and a 360 grain bullet of the same type at 1000 fps. Those rounds are superior. The recoil is as manageable as the 10mm and hardcast projectiles out penetrate and do more damage than the 10 mm or the 357 . mag. That said , I am confident with the 10 mm as a defense weapon in a handgun against dangerous game even up to the brown bear.
I bought the 30sc Shield Plus as soon as it arrived at my LGS. I already had the 9mm Shield Plus for over a year and have been carrying it with 147gr HST rounds. The new 30sc Shield Plus is also carried with the 100gr 30sc HST's. The 30sc HST actually has 21ft/lbs more muzzle energy than my 147gr HST's, so I'm not losing anything by carrying the 30sc Shield+. I actually view it as having better firepower since I'm carrying 17rds instead of 14 in the 9mm, and each round in 30sc is giving me more muzzle energy.
The 9mm 147gr HST is a round that cops across the nation have been carrying as duty rounds for many years now, so I have confidence that Federal manufactured the 30sc HST just as well as all their other HST rounds. Gel testing I've seen on youtube shows the 30sc penetrating and expanding no differently than the 9mm HST's, and most of those videos are using the higher velocity 124gr HST's in regular pressure and in +P.
If S&W was able to add 3 rounds of capacity to their 30sc Shield Plus, then I expect Glock, Sig, Springfield, Taurus, Ruger, Shadow Systems, etc to be able to do the same with their stack and a half guns. S&W engineers are not better than any of the other gun companies engineers. As long as HST, Gold Dot, and Critical Defense 30sc rounds are being produced, then I'm not that concerned about this round disappearing any time soon.
Absolutely awesome comment and I very much so agree my man!
Just purchased mine from grabagun for $299 and for the price you absolutely cannot beat it. I carry a 10mm right now but have been struggling to keep it comfortably concealed and 16 rounds of 30 super carry in a micro compact running a red dot is gonna stop any threat easily enough although maybe not as fast as my 230 grain magnum 10mm rounds but now I can keep the 10mm for a home defense gun and the 30 super carry for personal carry and like you said I am sooooo tired of every damn new pistol that comes out being a 9mm so yeah I’ll support a new weapon with a new cartridge any day!!!
Niceee! Great price as well! The odd ball calibers are definitely fun!
It would be nice to see Glock and other companies put out some 30 super carry chambered pistols to give the round a fighting chance at succeeding
Agreed
I've been hoping for a Diamondback model. Really like my DB380 for daily carry and a model in 30SC would be an easy sell.
You do a one heck of a good review my friend. Keep on keeping on. Will be watching you're channel now. Thanks💯
very much appreciated!
Great gun and so far seems to be a great round. Now that they offer a 15 round 9mm Shield Plus mag, I'll probably end up just getting Shield Plus in 9mm. I'm poor so the cost of ammo difference and availability locally is a deciding factor. I prefer to support my good local shops when buying ammo.
I was wanting the Sig XMacro so I could buy the Icarus Precision A.C.E. frame, but Sigs QC is a deal breaker plus that whole poor thing. Then I was looking at the Mossberg MC2C 16+1 (still might get it new for $350) and the Masada Slim new $350, but I keep coming back to the Shield Plus. I carried the Gen 1 Shield for 5 years. Hated the trigger, but it was boringly reliable and that is not a bad thing.
Great review and that Harry's holster looked solid. I'll have to try one, as I typically just go with Vedder holsters for my IWB holsters.
I don't have cable TV anymore, so keep the video's coming lol peace!
Much appreciated and yeah the shield plus is where it's at imo for the money all day long!
Good, detailed, thorough and fair review. The Shield Plus in .30 SC is going to be my next pistol. Just because.
Very much appreciated! She's a fun little shooter for sure, Thanks for watching!
I think the best example of an odd-ball cartridge eventually going main stream is the 5.7x28. Spent decades as a meme cartridge ("MAIN POINT OF SELLING BELGIAN FIVE SEVEN PISTOL IS EXTREME PRICE OF WEAPON AND CARTRIDGE...") with only two guns chambered in it, the FN PS90 and FsN. Even 327 Fed and 32 H&R, while still not a common caliber, has been seeing a bit more traction over the last few years.
Indeed! I love me some 5.7!
I bought me one of these 30 super carries about 4 months ago and have run about 300 or so rounds through it and have had no issues at all and it's a nice shooting gun, it does shoot a pretty good group. The only thing is it's a 10 round magazine so I'm going to have to find me a little higher capacity magazine for it then I might consider carrying it for a EDC for a while.
Have you checked the case heads for striker drag?
Bought a box of 30 super carry ammo by mistake. Intended to buy 10 MM. right next to each other. So intrigued by the ammo, I actually went back a few days later and bought the damn gun. Have not shot it yet. Shop where I purchased the gun, has plenty of 30 super carry ammo, both ball and self defense. Can't wait to take it out and put a few hundred rounds, before I commit to EDC.
Make sure you check the primers on the spent cartridges and see if you're getting striker drag. Mine was doing it pretty bad and is now back at smith.
I would like to see S&W sell a changeover kit that would allow 9mm to 30 SC. Barrel, recoil spring, and magazines.
Yeah, that would be cool!
Ammoseek has 30 super carry ammo for 20 dollars a box now. Still a little high but it's cheaper than when it first came out. I bought some fed hst 100 grain online for 24 dollars a box.
That's a pretty good deal for sure!
50 rounds 20$. ?
@@Lucas.stalcup it's 30 dollars in the box store, when they have it.
I found it for $16 for 50 rounds now, online.
It is funny. The 9mm guys that bitched about .45 acp have the same arguments now used on them for .30 super carry.
Indeed
Thank you👍🎯
thanks for watching!
I love mine and that 16 rounds is crazy capacity
Definitely solid capacity for the size
Great video. My very first pistol was and still use is the Colt Combat Commander 1911. I've had that for 25+ years and decided it was time too finally buy a Glock 19. Love it! Looking for something more compact. Narrowed it down to two. The Hellcat and the M&P Shield Plus. Decided on the Shield Plus and no regrets. I've shoot about 600 rounds through and decided to finally get my conceal carry permit and make this my standard side arm. Very curious and excited about the 30 Super Carry. I think I'm going to get one now after watching your review, among several others. The 17 round 16+1 capacity has me intrigued, especially for a micro compact.
Yeah it's definitely something different and in my opinion potentially a future in concealed carry handgun options.
Great points and a fair look at something new. Thanks!
Thabks for watching!
Went from a G26 to the 9mm shield plus for the last year and I don't see myself going back. Favorite carry gun so far, good content on the new caliber.
Yeah it's really growing on me alot! Thanks for watching my dude!
Just put the first 250 through a performance center one, including 50 rounds of aluminum case, zero malfunctions including attempted induced limp wristing. Sights were dead on out of the box.
Tested the 13rds loaded to capacity with plus one chambered, heard there were issues cycling the top round, no issues with my sample size of 1.
It is definitely softer shooting than the 365, don't know about the Hellcat or Ruger Max, haven't shot those.
A very good handgun so far with the low round count.
Next will be a few boxes of different JHP ammo.
@@hansblitz7770 I've shot the hellcat. It feels just like the P365. Those two competed while S&W and Glock did for something larger in grip like the 43X and Shield Plus. Same though I have one as well came with Truglo TG-H3 night sights and was dead on out of the box no adjustment needed to sights. Somewhere in the ballpark right now of 700-800 rounds random brass case ball as well as some 147gr. Federal HST, 147gr. Winchester Ranger-T, and 147gr. RangerOne, racked up a total of zero malfunctions. In my opinion best out of the box trigger in its class with probably the P365 to follow.
Bought a few days ago and went to the range today. Very impressed. My new carry.
Definitely a solid carry piece!
I have a 26 and shield plus.. the slimmer shield does feel a little better inside the waistband but the 26 feels better in hand. I run my 26 with a Pearce grip xl +3 giving me 13+1 and is perfect for me
The 26 is one of the best carry guns of all time, hands down!
I like this pistol and caliber a lot.i will be buying it soon this year.💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Nice nice!
Very nice video, balanced and sensible.
Thanks!
Just order one from buds they had a sale one them , I see your also from Illinois 🎉 great video .
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching!
I carry the ez 30 super carry. Awesome weapon and round.
Nicee
What holster are you using and are they compatible with 9 or 380
I have 5 M&P’s, from full size, compact, and shields in both 9mm and 40. They all shoot left out of the box. My brother has two, and they shoot left. My dad same thing. They all shoot left.
Very odd
That trigger is the reason I am buying one. I could just shoot it with a 2 inch group with my novice(not beginner but novice) level experience.
Awesome!
Got the 26 great carry gun!! But I’ve have just bought the shield plus super carry 30 I’d say i will carry the shield so much lighter
Love the 26! I definitely had issues with striker drag on my 30 super carry shield plus though which I've updated in newer vids so make sure to check those out and keep an eye out to make sure yours doesn't have that issue.
Don't sleep on this one. 115 grain FMJ in the 30 super carry is around .56 cents per round. M&P Shield Plus optic ready. Slim and solid grip.
30 stupid carry is dead unfortunately
Smith and Wesson is a great brand (a lot of people like to crap on it for being low-mid tier)
All my smith and Wesson guns work great (rifles and pistols)
And ya can't forget how amazing their wheel guns are!
@@TerriblyTactical I have one myself
To be clear my line about the wine earlier wasn’t me shitting on the super carry 😂 (I’m a capacity queen, but you can’t beat the recoil compensation of the hefty Beretta)
Nice review.
Thank you sir!
SOLD ME ON IT .
I would probably get the 9mm version if I had to do it over
If the 30 in 30 super carry was .30 carbine I'd be on it but I'm not buying in yet lol. Excellent video for those who are interested in this newbie setup though. 👍👍
Much appreciated my dude!
I shall think about one.
It's pretty cool
Interesting little heater. I would like to see some ballistics!
There's some good vids out on exactly that
The beauty of the 30SC is that it comes in 115 Grn too. It is about 10% of a 115 9mm. I think it’s a great starter I’ve a 380. When you get more experienced it’s just a matter of upgrading the ammo which is cheaper than getting a 9mm. Atleast for a while.
I've never seen 115 grain 30sc anywhere
@@TerriblyTactical Speer Gold Dots and CCI has FMJ.
@@lensmith189 niceee
@@TerriblyTactical My daughter live in an apartment and wants to be armed. We are starting with 30SC. She loves it!

Good information. Did you try the Holosun on the pistol?
Have not tried the holosun on it...only the cts 1550
@@TerriblyTactical that helps too. I just got one these pistols and I’ve been looking for optic recommendations.
I bet a finger rest magazine floor plate wud really feel nice...wonder if the S&W 9mm finger rest will fit it....
I doubt it unfortunately

What do you think about the guna year later? Im picking mine up in a day or 2 and I've heard alot of tall about how it is a "dead round" i just couldn't resist picking one up for 280 OTD with optic cuts and nught sights.
The shield plus is great and the 30 super carry is a fine round it's just harder to find and more expensive. Didn't quite take off perhaps like they expected.
Yes Eli hit the shooter 8 hits out of 10 shots
Solid shooting for sure!
LOVE IT 🎉
The gun or the review lol
"It's tremendous, believe me."

Lolz
You know for the price S&W could include a basic plastic case something like what comes with the Canik models. Pretty much the only complaint I have with my Shield Plus.
Agreed
Eh, anybody with more than one gun is probably going to toss the case and use a better aluminum case for their guns anyway.
New subscriber here and I left a 👍. Can you please do a video showing the internals of the 30 super carry?
Much appreciated! Do you mean the gun or the ammo?

Lol a missed opportunity indeed
Help out the cartridge S&W, offer it in a performance center model like you do the .380 & 9mm.
Idk if that would make too much of a difference to tell ya the truth
You need to shop around for your ammo ,I pay 18-19.00 a box of federals 50 count at SOS
It's a pointless caliber and I've given up on it
@@TerriblyTactical wonder how many people said that about gatling, and browning,
@dalerose4392 lol not the same in the least bit dude

9mm has been around since 1909. Its older then 45acp. Its not a Johnnie come lately. But I'm sure you know that TT.
It was looked down upon and not widely accepted in this country until much much later
My 13 rd mag actually holds 14, unfortunately the 16 rd doesn't hold 17 lol
Lol same same hahah
this still holing up
I stopped shooting it due to a striker drag issue that I did further videos on.
@@TerriblyTactical thanks I noticed these are on sale - perhaps that's why - I need to get something that size, CC, new at this, but taking 2ndA seriously. :)
I put Pearce Grips bottom plates on my Shield + 9mm X 10 rd. and my .30 SC 13 rd. mags. They don't add any capacity but allow your little finger to get purchase without compromising concealability at all.
Nice!
Finally a review of this pistol that isn’t total shit
Thank you sir
Giddy
Lol
You should buy a cheap semi auto shotgun, fix it up, get it to run then torture test it.
That would be cool!
Nice firearm. Too bad Harry’s holster don’t come with a hi sweat guard. For that reason alone I won’t purchase one from Harry’s. My Vedder is a nice holster.

Your mom made em for me
I would like to see data on Bullet drop comparing the 30SC to the 9mm. What is the difference between the two at 40 yards.
Would be interesting to see for sure
Bro 40 yards? You gonna have to do at least 100 I'd say to get credible results
Stop shaking your hand while holding the gun, we want to see it.

geeze use a mag loader, lol
Nahhh
I think it comes down to what flavor and brand you like like 🚬 you like full flavor menthols lights whatever or you are like Mr and go unfiltered and I think 30 stupid carry is a waste of resources that could be getting used for common ammo in short supply elsewhere
Gotta buy it cheap and stack it deep when you can so you domt have to worry about availability
It’s a good round
*BUT*
1. It costs 180% more. Not insignificant if you buy training ammo by thousand
2. Lack of guns. 20+1 G19 sized would be awesome.
3. New York and other 10 round states make all of 30SCs benefits moot. If I can only have ten I’ll have ten of the more powerful and cheap 124gr 9mm +P
Indubitably
That’s cute you got yourself a girls gun to go with your girly truck. Someday you’ll be able to handle a 9mm and a Toyota Tacoma. Lol I kid, pretty cool, but I don’t like the cost of ammo and that it’s a oddball caliber. But cool.
Lolol wildcats are keewwllllll
@@TerriblyTactical lol yeah I’m just kidding I can’t hate I got a couple .357sig Glocks.
They are cool just expensive, I’m trying to get smarter the older I get and avoid em. I want a Glock in .45 GAP but I fight the temptations to buy one when ever I see one just bc I know it would cost a lot to shoot. Same with 30 super carry, I like how you get more rounds in the shield, but I’m just going to stay away from it bc if I liked it I’d want couple 1,000 of rounds of ball ammo and then 200+ hollow points plus 5+ mags loaded on top of it.
Not. Try to beat the LCP 380 size and I might consider.
Lol yikes
Nah I’ll take my 9mm over this useless caliber.🙄
Definitely more practical
