    Don' t forget to mention that this is the "Nippon gakku" top of the model line, and the whole guitar costs less than what Gibson charges to add neck binding.

    "In Europe, the term 'Cafe racer' used to be a put-down. It referred to the motorcyclist who played at being an Isle of Man road racer, someone who owned a racy machine but merely parked it near his table at the local outdoor cafe. He still has the exhibitionism of the chopper builder, but the cafe racer really makes his bike more aerodynamic and often safer with his modifications. The typical cafe racer's machine starts as a big road bike--350 cc or more. It's just a stock machine before the owner decides to go the racer route with bright colors and bullet fairing." (Wally Wyss, Popular Mechanics, September 1973, pp. 166-19)

    • @colejustesen
      @colejustesen 7 лет назад +1

      Fernando Ocaranza Congrats on being able to snag one. It is a quality made guitar. I own a few other Yamaha guitars, including an SG1000 and an SL700S (both Japanese made), and this model didn't disappoint in terms of attention to detail. The frets were dressed very nicely, the paint is meticulously done, and the hardware is top notch. In terms of playability and build quality, it is a very nice guitar! I do wish that Yamaha would have used better electronics like in the Noble pots and a Switchcraft toggle switch. The pickups need volume! At low volumes, they sound congested and are mid heavy. I feel that the neck pickup is really warm sounding and I am constantly reaching for the tone pot to brighten up things a bit, but it is typically all the way up. I have several amps and the dry switch seems to prefer specific designs more than others, as well as being at proper volumes. Sometimes it seems like it does nothing and other times it is very significant. I hardly use that function though. The case is a very nice case. It has a cool black covering that I have never seen on a hard shell case before. I don't know if there is way to load a picture into the comments section of RUclips, but I will get some pictures with a link at least to them later today for you. I am very happy with this guitar, but I am still on the fence about the pickups. I am half tempted to order a set that goes into the SG line.
      Here is the photo from Sweetwater before they shipped it out to me.

      Thanks Cole, how about a thornbuckers a friend of mine speak wonders of them. And thanks for the pic. I also own a yamaha but it's an Indonesian made, a PAC 311MS the that looks exactly like the Mike Stern signature I've done some upgrades on it and i love it.

    • @colejustesen
      @colejustesen 7 лет назад +1

      Fernando Ocaranza I can't comment on the Thornbucker... It sounds good, but I have no experience with it. I don't plan on changing the pickups in mine to tell you truth. I will probably swap the push-pull pot for a push-push s
      at some point though. I have a PAC912 that is quite a guitar too. It has a super thin neck, much like a Wizard from Ibanez.

    You can see,and hear,how the guitar inspire and thats what it"s all about,when you get a new guitar. The ultra mode of this,is when you say," it almost plays itself. This particular guitar,is on it"s way, give it ten years,and then," it almost plays itself".

    Love how Bohlinger does 'real world' demos. I mean, he goes through a lot of clean/dirty tones and licks most guitar players use; you get a better idea of what the instrument might sound like in your hands. Very cool.

  • @ChristopherDowning
    @ChristopherDowning 3 года назад +3

    I think what is so interesting about this guitar is 1. Japanese built to a very high standard - absolutely no quality issues. 2. This is pretty close to a Novo or Fano style guitar although of course, no relicing like the Novo, although this model only comes with these HBs. But - 3. This would make a great platform for some nice Lollar/SD Phat Cat P90s. Or some nice light wound PAF-style pups. 4. The price is just so competitive. The last time Yamaha did something like this was the Mike Stern Telecaster style PAC 1611MS - and those still sell for the same as new price.

  • @ChristopherDowning

    I think this guitar has all sorts of vibe to it. Somewhat like the reverend Sensei in looks - and also that beautiful guitar Rhett Schull plays (for shape) and that's a pair of Novo Serus's. Anyway if you like to play a guitar just for what it does, without it making too much of a non-statement - like this isn't a Gibson/Gretsch/Fender/G&L/Ernie Ball - then this could be a real working musician's guitar. What's not to like about a double HB solid? The fact that thi one is made in Japan is for me a big plus. Love my Takamine, my previous Tokai with the SD pups, my Ibanez bass, my HB Cort with SD P90's and APS2. So I'm used to playing working guitars that don't freak me out when I leave them on the stage at the break. (Can you ever imagine leaving your 335 $4000 guitar on the stage? Jeez!!)
    I'm warming to this - and it's just less than the price of something like base model Gibson like an SG Junior - but its two HBs and a build quality at least the same - and I know the Yamaha I own is built like a tank and spot on - so I'm giving this a really serious look. I have a feeling that if you don't get one they'll discontinue the Made in Japan one as Yamaha have in the past with other models - it's very sensitive to the Yen Dollar GBP rates.
