I have the R502t and a classic Telecaster. I love my Tele, I really do, and it's such a versatile instrument, but the Revstar is objectively a superior guitar, constructively and tonally, at half the price. I would exchange it with a Gibson Les Paul, though, if they gave it to me for no extra money, so I could sell it and buy 3 Revstars.
Interesting. I’m in the same boat. I have a Tele Pro that I love but Im seriously thinking of getting a 502 with P90s as well. Some of us have class I guess.
What kind of tele do you have, can I ask?
Have you had any issues or upgrade with the electronics? Several reviews indicate that the internal wiring and components are of lower quality throughout the whole line.
@@Mambojambo157 have both and can say that you are not far from reality
@@boobooau haha. I do too now. Love the Yamaha, love it.

Absolutely GREAT sounding guitars. Nice balanced tone, great pickup voicing and endless sustain!
One of the BEST REVIEWS I've ever seen on RUclips! Subscribed IMMEDIATELY!
BEAUTIFUL guitars! LOVED the P90 model! Wouldn't kick EITHER out of bed!
Beautiful new guitars from Yamaha, I really love those gorgeous P90 tones. I've been a Yamaha player on and off for many years and they always deliver the goods for quality and playability. This new range will most definitely be on my radar thanks to this excellent Guitarist demo. Cheers and Merry Xmas guys :)
Great demo, great clean sounds that really give an objective impression of both models. Thank you Jamie !!!
Wow. I never thought I'd say this but they looked and sound amazing
I've been playing Yamaha guitars all my life , and I'm 56 years old. Yamaha rocks!!!
Are they hum less p90’s
@@soberdave09 No.
@@soberdave09 the middle position is humcancelling.
This is absolutely the best tonal demonstration of these Yamaha's on youtube land. I just love Yamaha's P90's in this Revstar. Thanks for the video. You did it justice :)
Check out Chris Bucks demo of 3 Revstars
P90's were pretty tasty sounding at the end for sure. Fur lined with gravy.
Yes it is the best d3mo
This is a very well put together guitar, around 600 bucks it's not bad. I played the faded Gibson with p90s and this one from Yamaha and the Yamaha killed it. It just feels solid
Superb demonstration and excellent playing . Thats the style of guitar playing that I love and you have it. Demonstrated the sweet , the grit and tonality of the notes just great!
Just got P90 model. It's wonderful.
Game changer for Yamaha. NICE JOB!!!!!!!
These look freakin' AWESOME!
I've always loved Yamaha and have owned a bass for years which is a beautiful instrument for not a lot of cash. I bought a Maya Gold Revstar and absolutely love it, and this year I plan on snapping up the RS502T as well!
This was the video that convinced me of the 502t's sound, and a few months later, I've ordered one of my own!
How you liking it so far?
I wish I could tell you but the availability is a bitch, could be the end of the month before I get it yet. I'll get back to you, haha
So, how is it? :)
I've not been able to play it in a band situation yet but it's a properly high quality guitar, it does feel quite special. I'm coming straight off the back of playing a 60s Strat with a 7.5 inch neck radius, so it *should* feel more different than it does but it's just nice and fun to play. Honestly the P90s will take some getting used to but they sound good. Tuning isn't the most stable but I wonder if that could be fixed with a bit of a setup. And it came with 10s, whereas I prefer 11s. Basically any little quibbles I have are extra to the guitar itself. I'll need some more time with it but instinctively, it's just such a cool guitar to have and to play, I'm really pleased with it.
Essentially, yeah, with the dry switch engaged anyway. I could quite easily mistake it for my Strat on rehearsal room demos.
Much brighter than my Epi Firebird humbuckers, but still takes some getting used to when compared to the Strat.
I have to get one of these. All the reviews are good. They sound great. They look great.
A very very professional review! Wow!
Nice demo, cool playing and beautiful guitars. And yes, ear-gasm for that old PhaseTone II :)
ciclosonico toh, chi si vede! 😃 ste Revstar mi stuzzicano
Great playing! Where most others produce noise at typewriter speed, you make the guitars sing.
Well done and thank you!
Niels Ohlsen thanks!
Agreed; quality playing that enabled a proper appreciation of the the tonal possibilities. The metal twiddle crap is just tedious. Making it sing is where it counts.
Sounds great!!!!
Wow those look incredible!
top class demo, thanks.
Got my RS502T with P90s today. Nothing short of amazing. I own a couple of really good sounding Gibsons and Fenders and this guitar is just as good if not better. Amazing sound with tones of character. Build quality is top notch, fretwork is perfect and it plays like butter. Took me 5 minutes to adjust string action to my liking. Amazing guitar. Well done Yamaha! This might become my number one axe.
I don't see why not. Some of Nirvana's stuff was recorded with P90s as far as I know.
Waleed Ali You have to play both sets and see what sounds and feels better to you. I don't like the finish on the affinity squires. Haven't played the jackson. I would pick a guitar that feels and sounds good to me. Consider a second hand squire classic vibe 50s tele. It's an excellent guitar and doesn't cost much. Any practice amp will do the trick I suppose.
+zelon1983 How much does it weigh ?
It's somewhere in between my alder body strat and a les paul. Probably around 3.5-4 kg, don't have a scale so can't tell for sure.
great job and the song at the end was awesome !
I went into guitar center today just to putz around and play something new and stumbled onto this guitar. I was deeply impressed. I ended up sitting there for an hour and a half fell in love with it. Didn't buy it and regret it as a result
Got to say I really like those P90s. I’m the master of lifeless muddy sounds and humbucker are often my worst enemy.
They both sound fan tastic
I just pre-ordered those very same guitars on the recommendation of a friend of mine who went to NAMM this year...can't wait for them to start shipping. :)
Great playing and awesome guitars, I am looking at a rev star and a G&L Asat jr. thanks for such a knowledgeable video.
Great demo!!
I got myself the RS502T and its absolutely the wasps nipples!! Great build quality and great tones. The P90's (or Yamaha's version of the P90) are both chimey and warm on a clean set amp. Crank the amp or add a dirt pedal and it rocks nicely. Two things I have changed are the tuners (changed to Gotoh locking) and a TUSQ XL nut. Its a keeper and I'm looking to add both the RS820CR and RS720B later. Don't be fooled just because they are made in Indonesia - these are high quality guitars!
Bought the 502T,love it. I think I might have to get the 820 as well !!! that brushed finish on the body and headstock is KILLER :)
Wow! Beautiful!
Both guitars sound fantastic and look fantastic to play. The 502 seems to have a little more character. We all have different ears :)
I am happy to have bought a revstar 620 brickburst.I have been playing a Tom Anderson strat for such a long time and now i finally get this tremendous Les Paul sound, which was missing on my sound palet...
The Revstar is absolutely comfortable to play and i guess, my next one will be the revstar with the P 90's ...I still can't believe the prize
Nice. That last jam was super tasty!
Thanks!
Played one of these a few months ago. Rock solid and for a sub £700 guitar it has a really high quality feel that few manufacturers can match at that price point.
How would you say these compare to the lower end PRS guitars? Like all the Tremonti signatures that are cheaper than these Revstars? I really like the look of the p90 revstar, it seems like a far better and cheaper option than getting a les Paul with p90s
Really good ‘review’ video
That outro was jaw-dropping
nice soloing at the end dude :)
And that Green. Wow 🤩
The 502 is amazing. For a guitar built in Indonesia I think it's outright bargain for the quality. the "dry switch" does sound like a coil tap. All of the Revstar series sound and play fantastic. Even the cheap nato wood ones.
The 420 is amazing too
The new Revstar range has some really beautiful models. I like the 502 (without T) best. Reminds me a bit of a Reverend Charger P90, especially with what Yamaha calls "elbow contour". What they could have done better is put some more decent pictures from different angles online. They're definitely on my list...
Anyone know if the Yamaha P90 pickups are standard P90 size? As I know Yamaha have a tendency to use pickup sizes that are unique to them such as in their basses.
Clear cool sound ..i like that
The sound of the 502T is pristine. It's on my short list and the price is right.
Tasty guitar and tasty playing. Not sure about in green though...
BTW what was the "Bank Manager" on the pedal board?
I have the revstar820, but now I'm thinking I should have gotten the 502. Those p90s are outstanding.
In the currently depressed UK guitar market, those prices look ambitious when compared to, for example, new Gibson Les Paul 50s Tribute being advertised today at £399.
Great tones. The track had a definite Santana feel :)
I played the green one a couple weeks ago and fell in love, now I can't decide between this and a similarly priced gibson.
same here, played it today. It's got to be the ultimate rhythm guitar (although the leads were really clean too)
Being a Gibson and ibanez owner and a Yamaha owner of a 70s acoustic, I would say go with the Yamaha. It's new, it's different, made by cort which also makes ibanez products, can't go wrong dude I promise. These are unique.
Rs502t is perfect for surf and rockabilly music
Except the subtle vibrato thing, does it change to have a wraparound or this bridge ?
I really had my heart set on a RS502T. All the video demos I've seen and heard have been amazing.
Well, while at GC this past Sunday to pick up a new head (Orange TH30), I figured I'd give an RS502T a whirl. The guitar was built like a tank and absolutely gorgeous. The neck was a tad too wide for me; strange since I own 2 Gibson Les Pauls with 50's necks. I also wasn't impressed by the tone of the particular guitar I played. Since I wasn't planning on purchasing an RS502T that day, and it was near closing, I didn't ask if they had any more in the back.
You see, when I'm really interested in a particular guitar, I try our a bunch of guitars of that specific model. Like when I purchased my Les Paul Traditional; I tried three LP Trads until I found the one that I just had to have. Same with my other Les Pauls, Strats, Tele, SG, so on and so forth.
For the price, these guitars should play and sound like a dream. The one I played definitely wasn't worth the $729.99 price tag. I think a $500 price tag is what I would be comfortable paying.
Doing a demo at Guitar Center is shit. Trust me. When the new Fender Player Series Strats and Teles came out, I went to GC to try them out and was HUGELY disappointed. However, I went to a local music shop where they have luthiers set up every single guitar that comes into the shop--including cheaper guitars like Squiers--and the Player Series guitars felt and sounded AMAZING. A properly set up and intonated guitar makes a huge difference. And like John Mayer says, "Good feel is good tone." If the guitar isn't set up correctly and feels like shit to play, it's gonna sound like shit to play.
I yesterday ordered a Rps20. I am really convinced of Japanese work. same in photography. so i am able to compare my three Teles . American, Mexican and Japanese. for my opinion best finish has the Japanese. unboxing and tuning...that was all !
The P90 equipped Revstar just sounds spot-on to my ears. Both sound good though and the price is certainly right. Is it me or is there a complete lack of hum with the P90s? Even with the overdrive on I couldn't hear it?
Thanks for this demo. How would you compare these to others?
"Best Guitar Demo I've Seen In Years - And Yea Those Were Some Good Fucking Chops THERE"..!
Very nice review . May i know the gears use in this demo? i owned a 502 BG. Thanks
Well done Yamaha, an 8-strong line up of quality affordable guitars - and not a single left hand option available!
I feel this comment on a personal level. it's an emotional time to be lefty for sure
Should've thought about that when you were born.
At least they're roughly symmetrical so you can do a Hendrix and string it backwards and play it lefty
A quality workhorse for gigging, I'd suggest!
The P90s version sounds and looks good. Decent price too.
revstar? yes!
State of the art
Very true on the over priced part!! And the Esp Ec400 & 1000 Viper are a knock offs but at a great price!
It’s between the rev star with p90s or the guild jet 90
Great guitars. What about weight? Yamaha's SG are heavy as Les Pauls, I hope those Revstar will be much lighter?
they weigh about the same as a les paul
What is the sound difference between the T and without the T. Any comments?
The T has slightly less hot pickups and (if not dampened between the bridge and the tailpiece) a little sympathetic ringing of the strings. To me the T sounds a little more open and organic. When played hard the 502 has a smidge of the typical stoptail bridge wobble.
Do you had some delay on here?
thanx
"the design flaws in the 502T can be used as a subtle vibrato using the heel of your palm" 1:47
Always look on the bright side!
Not a design flaw. Tailpiece is set on springs to give an acoustic resonance and one of the reasons these guitars sound like few others.
The slight vibrato effect that can be had is just a side benefit.
Amazing! What amp are you playing them through? Thanks!
See 5:45. Had to look for it. Should put chain info in “see more” section :(
Pedalboard video please please please
That turns on
Check out the reverend sensei. twins?
You can listen how this guitar sounds here soundcloud.com/savanaviolenta/3a-1 ,an instrumental I made .The bass used here is Yamaha BB424X.
These guitars look and sound great but that radius seems super flat!
Tried the RS502T in the shop today. Didn’t like it at all. Felt like a piece of deadwood (no springiness), with a dry, flat, indistinctive tone. The strings felt like heavy gauge although the store guy said otherwise and my fingers even hurt a bit afterward!
Struggled to get a smooth or crisp vibe from it. I’m a Strat player. Too bad. I really love the look of it, and this particular guitar was on sale with 40 percent markdown. The tone knob was loose, so there may be quality issues.
I ordered a 502T from Sweetwater. They told me when it arrived that it didn't meet their quality standards and that they would not be shipping it to me. At that point, I decided to look elsewhere and ended up, very happily, with PRS S2.
Nice!
when I first saw these I thought Reverend Guitars had brought out a new model until I saw the Yam logo. the name, the look and the low frequency cut all shout Reverend to me. Nice looking though.
+Ross Bowen First thing I thought too - Reverend rip-off. I must admit, I really like the P-90 (RS502T). I think it sounds great, If it is ever offered on MF Stupid Deal Of The Day, I'll be picking one up. I even love the color.
I could get one right now for $583 USD pre-tax (8.75%) and get 2 years interest-free financing. That would equal out to 24 monthly payments of only $26.42 USD. If I didn't have a couple of other guitars I'm paying off right now, I'd go check one of these out and if I liked it, I'd buy one.
+nitegoat1369
Rip-off?
Yamaha have been making that shape since 1979
Reverend guitars was founded in 1996 so good chance it's reverse
+Darryl Stevens And Reverend is a Gibson/Robin rip-off. All guitar companies rip-off Fender and Gibson shapes and designs. I think most people who see these guitars for the first time relate their shape and look to Reverend. Who really cares?
+nitegoat1369
Could care less really...
I would take either of them
+Darryl Stevens yeah. As I already stated, I really like the P-90 version. As soon as they are in stores, I'll be going to check one out.
I've never owned a Yamaha guitar. Will this be durable and long lasted for lots of gigging and traveling? Maybe a dumb question, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Had mine for 2 years. Short answer, yes.
Uffda, wouldn't want to pair the 502T with any amp rockin V30s. I can hear that upper mid range crang already start to bother my ears. Bet it would sound great w/ different speakers though.
So chunky neck?
Makes note of the height adjustable tail piece, never touches it once the entire demo. DOH!
Two neck sizes
What happened with the new updated Revstar models? They just sound so much worse in every RUclips demo I hear...
A friend of mine recently went to Abbey road for Yamaha's unveiling of this guitar. Apparently Yamaha say they have a 20 year plan for it, that in years to come this will be THE guitar all the kids want, as monumental as the LP and strat. Unfortunately my friend decided to point out, much to the dismay of many Yamaha execs that at the end of the day it is what it is, a Yamaha and that the brand just doesn't have the brand pulling power or sheer desirability of the aforementioned guitars, no matter how good it is
+Kerry Moore Not yet, anyway
+Meister Jazz Only a shallow hipster cares about stuff like guitar brands. Fender and Gibson haven't done anything new for decades. Be unique! Yamaha is based in Japan, a country known for attention to detail and craftsmanship. My main acoustic is a modified FG730s and it sounds incredible. These guitars look excellent and I would definitely buy one.
+Meister Jazz TRBX 505 owner here. You are short changing yourself by caring about "brand". Yamaha is delivering excellent product these days.
Have you got the Model numbers wrong in the mag and video this month ? all the pics of the guitar reviewed are the RSP20CR ? as is the guitar in the demo?
Nope, you're thinking of the more expensive, range-topping Japan-built version of the RS820CR. Yes, it looks similar but there are subtle spec and finishing upgrades on that mode, as well as the country of manufacture being different - hence there is no mistake either in the mag or the demo on that score.
Looks a little bit like a Fano...
Either it's a bad audio or the guitar sounds very ice-pick Ash
this guitar weighs alot. heaviest one i ever handled at the local guitar store.
is that sound "flat" or is it just me ?
It's you. He's right on the nose tuning wise with my Juno DS digital piano. Cool guitar.
P90's can be not beautiful.
Anche l’occhio vuole la sua parte...i colori usati Non le valorizzano per niente
I wish the 502T was higher quality. P90s>Humbuckers
Most other who comment find this to be a high quality guitar. And many dealers cannot keep up with the orders and are constantly out of stock.
get to the playing bro
looks like something a hipster (American slang)would buy. To my ears the pickups sound way to bright especially the p-90's.
Didn't know Tai Lopez can play
