- Quick demo of my new Yamaha Revstar Rs502t.
Played through my Hughes and Kettner Black Spirit 200, out to a Blackstar 2x12 cab loaded with Eminence speakers.
I just came home from buying on of the last ones! Same model and color. I feel you about the “falling in love in 10 minutes” thing. Absolutely adore it!
This is by far the best online demo of the RS502t I've found on RUclips. This thing is so versatile. And somehow the understated design makes it all the more compelling. Thanks for posting.
This dude can fly
Love revstar. In fact Yamaha guitars in general are amazing.
@@jst601 Not sure what you mean by this comment.
this very guitar is going to be a cult classic 10, 20 years from now, amazing.
I got a Pacifica 611 and am equally blown away... Why aren't we talking more about Yamaha guitars?
Amazing craftsmanship, great quality components... Style... I can't put mine down! :D
The Pacifica is truly under rated.. even the cheapest ones are great instruments.
Pacifica 611 truly has blown me away. I just got one last week and it is an impeccable instrument. Immediately I am looking for more Yamaha guitars. I have played some sub $1000 Yamaha acoustic guitars and were not so impressed. So I never really gave Yamaha electrics any consideration. But the Pacifica 611 has totally turned me on to Yamaha electrics.
KILLER PLAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! guitar sounds great
I instantly fell in love with this guitar when I discovered it, a couple of days ago.. picking a mint one next week, in black.
Gorgeous guitars. So glad Yamaha is in the game. I can't find what I'm looking for in Gibson & others ....I keep coming back to the Revstar series.
Thanks for your truly fabulous run-through of this cool guitar. I've been seeing other videos about this model too and you drove it home. Yamaha does so well on whatever they make, at any price point, and I placed my order halfway through your video. ;)
I've got one of these and I have to admit although first and foremost I am a strat lover because of their looks and single-coil twang and bite this guitar has P90 pick ups that are extraordinary they truly are! Any guitar fiend with £500 spare cash needs this one in their collection believe me.
You sir are a legend! Buys a great guitar and then buys another two!!
This is the way.
I have about 25 guitars, basically all fenders and gibsons. I bought one of the other revstar and was blown away with the quality for the price. Bought one of like yours. Again, a steal. I can not tell how impressed I am. I would not hesitate recommending theses guitars especially to a beginner. The quality of these $650 guitars goes up against any "custom shop" over priced model.
Why so many fenders and gibsons?
@@sabahudincerimovic8372 They are excellent guitars as long as pick out a good one. Teles, strats, jazzmaster, les paul, sg, 335, double cutaway, 137. Different pickups different sounds, feels, looks.
I’m a convert too. These are gems
I have a custom shop black beauty and these guitars easily hold their own. Unbelievable value.
Great Guitar!!!!....... Yamaha has been killing it for decades!!!!........I love my Revy !!!!
I agree this is an excellent guitar. The QC is amazing and I’m picky as hell
only disappointment i found was that the fret ends were sharp. QC might have shifted since it's launch as the store demo had no issues. Might press yamaha to fix under workmanship warranty
Best demo I’ve seen of this particular model. Clearly went through the full variety of tonal variations and absolutely shredded. Well done 👍
I so want one of these! Can’t decide between the Bowden Green and the Denim Blue. I like your solution- but then all!
Great review sir!
I have three Yamaha guitars. Two Revstars, 320 & 420, and a PAC612. A P90 loaded will be next. The guitars are excellent. My Les Paul owning friends love the Revstars.
Great review! Thank you for giving us a superb review and excellent demo of the Revstar!
Very well done! Just bought one on Reverb! Thanks, John
Bought an 820cr and I loved it so much I ordered one of these about week later.
I have a 502T and I get LOTS of comments EVERY time I play it in front of people. It is an angry little beast that is a blast to play. Really can't overstate the bang for the buck on this guitar.
Great review of the Revstar! And awesome albeit pretty hilarious watching you pull not one, BUT TWO more Revstars hahaha!! I was instantly attracted to them when they came out by the awesome retro throwback colors of old British race cars, the specs like mahogany bodies with maple tops & rosewood fretboards and finally seeing them in person the fit and finish and well built hardware was really impressive especially at the price point! I didn't pull the trigger unfortunately only because I just wasn't familiar with Yamaha's guitar tones and reliability i guess. I just got gunshy so I picked up a PRS Semi-hollowbody instead. I've regretted not having picked one up yet but you sold me and it's now on the list so thanks!!
Dude, love the guitars but love your playing even more! Awesome!
What a beautiful instrument, such a great sound and build quality, that’s the review I was looking for, someone who really enjoy the guitar. And your playing is impressive, very powerful, spot on! 🎸💥
great video 👏🏽
i love my revstar 502t. i play mine through a fender twin reverb 65 reissue. i play a totally different style than you, chris but it sounds great for what i'm doing too. i'm really impressed with the quality of the hardware and the craftsmanship. the secret ingredient is love, L U V.
Did you try the wrap tail version?
thx Chris - from Sydney. I have the more basic RS320 (yellow) that is a rock machine and just today purchased this Bowden Green 502T based on my appreciation of the playability and quality of the 320. Looking forward to getting it tomorrow
I bought a broken C40 and fell in love with the brand. Even a cheap broken product feels amazing to play and in general it looks georgeus and very carefully handcrafted. My next electric guitar with definitely be a Revstar.
Great review! You convinced me to get the 620 with humbuckers. I would go nuts with that 60 cycle hum.
Dude, you're a natural salesman, lol, I want that guitar and that amp!
Awesome review dude. You've convinced me. I'm heading to the store tomorrow :)
Hello, quick question, it may seem odd but how big are your hands because my hands are quite small and I am worried that they won’t feel as good on the medium sized neck thank you
Good tip, buy it, leave it in the boot of your car. You empty the bin next morning, sneak the guitar in and put it in one of your spare cases. Play the guitar with headphones plugged in at night. Someday you will get caught.Thats when you say that you bought it ages ago!
I've been wanting to invest in one of these really bad I love them thank you for the demo
I have heard many people say these are great!
Your right, the guitars are very special! At this price point they are a steal!
Great video. Very practical. Looking forward to your Spirit 200 video as Im intersted in that amp as well. cheers from Germany
You are right, amazing Sound and well played
Superb review, triple good! I wish I could play my Revstar as well as you do!
would LOVE to see you so a review of the Schecter PT Special ...
Now I have no band I decided to get rid of my stack and have recently been considering 'downgrading' from my Les Paul and getting one of these. I have a long history with my Les Paul but it's a lot of dead money sitting there. Your video has almost convinced me and at least helped a lot 👍
I traded in my 2018 Les Paul Standard for 2 of these and I couldn't be happier! I LOVE these guitars! The P90 is exactly the tone I've been looking for. I'm just a little angry that it took me so long to try them! :)
Nice demo Chris...I've got a 502T with Mojotone '56 Quite Noiseless pups coming..Was debating on a new RSS 02T but wanted the original model. Don't play metal or even heavy od but still can't stand noise...thx bud
Great Video, I'm sold! Thanks Chris!
I have a green one too and love it! Great review, you're an excellent player!
I own a RS420 Revstar and I'm more than satisfied ! GREAT guitars !
Really good job at presenting the tones possible with this guitar. You're getting some great tones!
Great demo !! I was on the fence about getting one of these (let alone 3) lol. But you validated my thoughts. Ordering one today ! Thanks
Awesome review and playing!
You can press down on the tail piece and gives you a bit of vibrato.
Top test, thank you Chris.
Yamaha is a very good company for musical instruments, pianos, horns, acoustic guitars. So that for curiosity, I tested the RS 620 with 2 alnico 5 humbuckers: yes it is very good sounding guitar, close to that of a Burst Bucker Pro in a Les Paul Standard ( I had one that I sold, replaced by a better Tokai), incredibly long sustain, nice and clear cleans, still well defined and articulate overdriven and distorted, and really comfortable, neck profile and body chamfered front arm and back stomach, flawless perfect finish, for as low a price of €700. Only the green flamed didn't please me, so prevented me to buy it right away. So now considering the RS820 at €900 with a top I prefer. For P90 I have a Gibson SG Classic, not flawless but pleasing sounds.
Greetings from Hollywood California! Good review! I'm gonna buy me one! Thank you for the review!
This is the absolute sexiest guitar I have ever seen.
I have 2 Revstar 620's and love them both they are my main guitars and now ive fallen in love with this 502T. thanks for the great review I will be saving for this one for sure. And Im liking the H&K BS 200 through the BLKSTR 2x12 . WOW, Awesome thanks for sharing and keep that great tone flowing through the air brotha!!
This wiil sound awesome for blues and jazz as well..
wtf i ownd this guitar and i really love that p90 sound. what a Beast I felt in Love with this guitar since the day I found it in my local Guitar shop
Amazing tone all the way around and great 👍 playing!
Yamaha makes incredible gear. For the price you really can't beat Yamaha. I used to think PRS SE was the best value out there but I need to play a Rev.
BastognePitBull me too! Until i got Revstar RS820CR.. oh boy... best guitar for the money ever! If it has Gibson the headstock will cost 2K!
@@andrerodrigues5064 The good news is the Yammie headstock improves upon the flawed Gibbo design, i.e. the notorious temperamental G string tuning. G&L makes a great instrument although the prices on US stuff have gone up significantly. Yamaha and G&L equal great tone per dollar value.
Great guitar ..those P90's just sound awesome!
I like all of them but the brushed nickel p90's are especially cool!
Great demo! Great playing! . Thanks
bought 3!......love it
I am a fender man But after being burned by Fender with bad quality Expensive guitars I would go with Yamaha going forward!
got two yamaha SGs and I think my next one is gonna be Revstar, they seem like amazing guitars
Awww I love the sound of this. Unfortunately I don't think they sell them left handed. Otherwise I would buy one in a heart beat. Great video. Really good demo
Went in my local store Looking for an American Strat today and came out with the 502T in green.. Same situation as you with my LP. Never play it because I don’t want to break or get it dirty. 😜🍺
Bought the Japanese Denim version 6 months ago and here’s my two cents:
Pros: P90s produce a great fat sound, quality control on these guitars is quite good, and they look pretty cool, particularly without the scratch plate.
Cons: it’s too heavy for me and the satin finish stains like mad.
Conclusion: price quality wise it’s a really nice guitar and they sound absolutely fantastic. The weight is a bit of an issue for me personally.
I have the shop black 502... The weight is down the wood, all mohogany is heavy unfortunately. You should try a les paul, is even worse. I agree the steel wool finish is a bad idea, i wish they did some nice gloss finish.
@@valebliz they do have some gloss finish ones
@@naterangel9717 yeah the bowden green and the black one, but nothing as nice as the matte ones.
That sounds amazing i was thinking of starting play guitar again as i havnt touched it for yrs the last 1 i bought wich was awesome was a Godin summit Ct trans black but ive always wanted a yam sg 1000 but this Revstar kicks ass 👍👌🤘
great to hear ur thoughts chris ! thanks for the video
The guitar sounds great n all but ur playing is AMAZING
I just bought one of these. I got one with the new blue flamed maple top......Japanese vintage denim. I have a tele worth 5 times as much but I really like this guitar even though is cheap compared to my tele.
I just bought the denim blue and I am jonesing for it to get here!
Jeez those P90's got some Bawls! Billet Green comin my way
You should also check out the new Yamaha Pacifica 611 that has a P90 in the neck and a Les Paul style humbucker in the bridge. Both are Seymore Duncan’s! It’s got a Wilkinson tremelo, Grover locking tuners and Graph Tech nut and string trees stock! Killer and unique pickup combination! I have one on back order right now. Can’t wait to get it!
Wow. Gorgeous Revstars!
I bought the RS820T. What a gorgueus guitar, man. Slighly compressed tone compared to a PAF Les Paul, but a bumping bass tone and pleasant highs. Also, the swithc to remove bass freq is killer, making the guitar a work horse.
Really really a big deal for the money!!
Awesome review!
It seems the whole body of the instruments resonates much more than other guitars.... almost as if it had a hollow body ! (I like that).
I bought that Exact Guitar at that Exact Store and everything he said about the guitar and store is true, I chose the Japanese Denim Finish
Is it heavy. I heard they are heavy which is something really negative for me
@@georgioslytos7993 yeh, they are but nothing like a gibson les paul.
Thank you for a great review Chris. Also thank the Lord for ordinary cleaning sponges (and boot laces to of course), my own guitars are stuffed to the teeth (strings?) with them - especially just under the bridge of a J-Bass (trick from the old Motown players) makes the cheapest and sometimes the most effective "compressor" you'll ever own!
Picked up the Bowden green, love it, very accurate video brother!
Just for clarification, is that color in the video above Bowden Green or Black?
It was my first time with P90's when i got my blue revstar, now I want them in all my S shaped guitars
Digging the revstar. Cool noodling video.
Should have waiting 30 seconds before asking about that hum. I think if you were to drop a lower value tone cap, being able to roll the treble off more gradually, and you could literally use these for any music.
Chris, at 7:10 you made me want one. Late to the party on this I know.. What colour to get is the hardest call!👍🇦🇺
Funny I just saw Manchester music mill on Craigslist and checked before I seen this video sadly they only had a 3 Series and a 4 Series definitely looking for the 502
Chris, what years are your 502Ts? How heavy are they? Is the second one you showed the “Japanese Denim” finish? And you mentioned the neck is like a Gibson - is that a fatter 50s or slimmer 60s profile? Great review, thank you
Not certain of the years... I don't have them any more, but I'd guess 2018's? Yes, Japanese Denim. Neck is similar to the 2019 standard which I think is like to 60's profile.
@@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
Chris, one more question
You mentioned the little hack you did to dampen the “ring” on the strings due to the nature of the tailpiece
Was that tailpiece (with the strings coming out through the bridge) comfortable to play? Did it feel strange or harsh to rest your hand there while picking?
I know you don’t have them anymore but would appreciate whatever color you still remember
Thank you
I want a Yamaha because issei noro from casiopea uses one but all the affordable ones are made in Indonesia and he presumably used a made in Japan one. I'd settle for something like this cuz damn you made it sound good dude
Wondering after a couple years if you still love the Revstar.....
I like your channel, just subbed. Thank you.
i love these guitars. i plan to build one myself - just put some filtertrons there instead of P90s and put the volume pot further from the brigde pickup :)
Good review man.
I’m really thinking about getting this cuz I’m in the same boat I need a p90 guitar
I am a tele player but want another guitar . I’m tossing up between this and the Revstar 620. It sounds great.
So it's like a high pass filter on the push pull? I've owned a few semihollows, and every one I rewire the independent tone controls; that bridge tone I change to a master tone and the neck I convert into a high pass, that rolls bass off. I don't have them take a lot of bass off, but being able to roll a little low end off when I'm running through some overdrive really makes them FAR more versatile.
I've never really thought of just doing it as a switch though.
Oh hell! How am I going to get this past the wife?
If you have the money and you’re not sacrificing your family’s wellbeing ... it’s your decision, not hers. You’re the man and leader.
But I get that was a joke so here’s a “lol” for you!
Cheers.
Start by telling her you need three of them like this guy and she'll wind up settling on one...lol
Grow a set of balls to hide it behind ;)
Tell her its been in the wardrobe for a while & you just haven't used it! - or better still - offer to get her a new pair of shoes! every time you get a new guitar!
Buy all your guitars in the same color, that way she never knows how many there really are.
The revstar is good ! the yamaha sg range were never this good !
Hi Chris, please do a video of the zebra guitar that you shown here. I also never played p90's in my 45 years of playing. I doesn't have to be a long video. I would like to see it before I order one. Thanks. Love your demos.
Sorry, I no longer have it...
Me wanting one more and more
Thomann UK are selling Yamaha Revstar RS502T Bowden Green for £458 whereas others are selling them for up to £150 more.
Sadly that's plus vat... so that's about 550
got some dimebag vibes from your shreds man :D
