If you ask me these have what it takes to become an instant classic. Mainly because of the design. Yamaha have come up with a unique body shape that doesn't look weird and that's a huge achievement.
combinations of all Yamaha... An SG, an SF (Super Flighter) and even the shredders... Then they went with some nice finishes.., I own a RS502. love it.
Will the 720 B work well for hard rock/ metal? If not , which one would? Also.. so both the 620 and 820 have mahogany body with maple cap - why is one priced more/better than the other? Thanks.
Hi +James Rose the output from the pickups on the 720 is quite low. For metal and hard rock genres you would probably require something with hotter pickups to handle those heavy saturated tones. We would recommend the 620 or the 820 for that style of music. With regards to the differences between the 620 and the 820. The finish type is different, along with the bridge. The 820 has a Tonepros AVT-II where as the 620 has an Adjustable Wrap-Around bridge. The pickguard on the 820 is made from Anodized Aluminium and the 620 is a Black, 3-Ply. Furthermore, the 620 has a flamed maple top where as the 820 has a maple top. Both are incredibly good guitars but Yamaha state that the 820 is more of their all-rounder. Ultimately, it would depend if you were using the guitar for more than rock/metal. If so, the 820 is ideal. If you are focusing solely on the hard rock / metal genres then the 620 may be preferable. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Thank you for the reply, I appreciate you writing all that. I will go with the 820, seems appropriate for my style. Thanks again, I really enjoy yamaha's guitars (already own two!)
+lastone032085 We would recommend the RS720: www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Yamaha-Revstar-RS720-Ash-Grey/1FMZ It is a great clean sounding guitar and works well with a little gain - perfect for ska and funk styles. Hope this helps!
