- From our 1st Season of Paramount's hit 80s TV series, "SOLID GOLD", enjoy our host, DIONNE WARWICK and TINA TURNER singing her hit, "Proud Mary", arranged & produced by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle"). This performance aired on February 14, 1981. 
The members of my SOLID GOLD band for Season 1 were:

Love Tina. But I am continually impressed by how Ms. Dionne was always about sisterhood. She supported the singers who came on the show. Never upstaged. And really appeared to be invested in their putting in an excellent performance.

Those dancers were awesome! I remember trying to dance like the solid gold dancers when I was little, and kicked myself in the nose. My grandma likes to tell that story😂😂😂

Tina Turner was moving lol. Great dancer and great voice. Dionne seemed to genuinely love performing with all those stars back then. Had to be a lot of hard work though, learning songs, scripts.. I was very very young but do remember Solid Gold.
What a beautiful moment in the industry. It was truly "Solid Gold".

These were amazing times, seeing Dionne (Ms. Sophistication) and Tina (Ms. Sex Symbol) together is insane!!! Also it's cool seeing the transition and evolution of Tina's legendary hair style, you can see the inspiration of the iconic haircut in the way she wore her ponytails in the early eighties.
Wow that was so unexpectedly sweet and amazing to listen to. Can tell they liked each other sincerely. Amazing duet also, would have loved a recording of those two together. I'm sure they were friendly outside of showbiz

So in 1981 she was a has been. Thank god she had the 1983 album Private Dancer. That album brought her back from the dead.

I NEVER saw this footage before. Hard to imagine these 2 icons on the same stage performing. Amazing to see the sisterhood of Dionne Warwick here, specially when she knew what Tina was going through at the time without a record deal. Fun fact is that both Dionne and Tina had a known beef with Aretha for years. Dionne never forgave Aretha for having recorded "I Say A Little Prayer", specially because Aretha thought her version was the best one. And Tina always criticized Aretha for thinking she was the only one that had a powerful voice and could sing, specially because Tina had already several years in the music business when Aretha started out. On the other hand, Aretha was always jealous about Tina's slim image.
Wow! I never knew that! It’s crazy to know that Aretha had beef with Tina but Tina was so loving and DYNAMITE! That couldn’t be denied! Tine embodied soul and rock! While Aretha was more soul and gospel.

Dionne exceeded my expectations here. She brought the Dionne and Tina brought the Tina. Fun performance. This was a few years away from Tina’s big comeback so I’m sure Tina was thrilled to be on Solid Gold.

I love this show and Tina and Dionne were amazing at the end, to see them so young and beautiful made me want to cry since Tina is gone now; but they were awesome at the end; and Tina always seems to just have fun on stage even the end when she grabs and hugs Dionne with laugher; awesome and classy ladies!

Wow!!! A musical double feature on "Solid Gold" from what appears to be 1980 or 1981, from the first season. Tina appeared to be prepping for her mid-1980s reinvention and when Dionne joined in she looked like she really was having fun. The Solid Gold Dancers were on prominent display here in full regalia. I love those flashing stage lights! Yes, and the ceiling mirrorball that stayed with the most of the run of the show.

@@bigeyezzzzzzz You are welcome. I bet that was high-stepping high-octane energy that Tina Turner had so much. As she got older, her younger dancers in her concerts really had to move themselves "like Solid Gold Dancers" just to keep up with her. They really could kick up some dust!!! It was nearly exhausting Tina perform with all the fast moves, even on television, especially for us couch potatoes. That was a classic performance. Tina and Dionne made a good duet team.
