I know right? I was thinking the same thing. I really liked it though. Rap wasn't new like everyone thought it was. It came from the roots he was singing it in....JAZZ, and religious chants

    • @Rasbiff
      @Rasbiff 6 лет назад +29

"Rap" is not really a new thing. "Rap" literally just means a talk or a speech, but long before hip hop it often referred to a rhymed and/or rhythmic speech. You can see Muhammed Ali pulling that stuff off in interviews and press conferences, and it was a big thing in "blaxploitation" movies of the 70's.
What happened in the Bronx in the mid- to late 70's was that during dance parties - at which a DJ would play old funk records, preferably with a good ear for the best breaks and loop them - an MC (Master of Concert) would introduce the DJ, often in the form of a rap, *just like Sammy Davis Jr. is doing here.* In other words, a rhymed rhythmic presentation - a *rap* - was already a long established form of expression when hip hop got started.

Besides the incredible vocals, Tina was in charge of the dance routines too, and worked with the Ikettes to put them together. These were very hard working ladies who took their responsibilities seriously. Notice how great they looked; the act was beyond exciting but never cheap. There is a difference. It already was evident at this point Tina would become one of the greatest stars in show business.

I Want EVERYONE TO KNOW THIS........ It Is Because Of Live Performances Like THIS Where She Sounds EXACTLY LIKE... AND SOMETIMES BETTER THAN THE STUDIO RECORDING, WITH THAT INCREDIBLE AZZ VOCAL RANGE OF EMOTION FILLED RASPY POWER IN HER VOICE, ALONG WITH HER UNSTOPPABLE SOULFUL DANCING ENERGY... (( IN HEELS, MIND YOU )).... That SHE.... YES.... TINA TURNER, WAS REFERRED TO BY MANY..... MAAANNNY .... AS THE QUEEN OF SOUL, In The 1960's AND Early To Mid 70's As WELL As The Queen Of Rock & Roll, FOLKS!!!!
UNFORTUNATELY THO..... THIS IS PART OF THE REASON WHY TINA AND ARETHA NEVER GOT ALONG!! ARETHA THOUGHT TINA WAS BENEATH HER VOCALLY.... 🤦🏽‍♂️.... I Say They Both Sang From Different Aspects Of The Soul-Singin' Spectrum!!!! They BOTH Were Absolutely Incredible Vocally In Much Different Ways!!! There Were Female Soul Singers Who Had Aretha's Vocal Range, Like Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle & Shaka Khan But They Didn't Have Her Vocal Control When It Came To Aretha's Ability To Do Those Incredible RUNS that Aretha Used To Do!!! And Tina, Well, There Were Other Female Soul Singers Who Had Raspy Smokey Powerful Voices, Like.... Gladys Knight And Mavis Staples but They Could NOT Match Tina's POWER, NOR THE **RANGE** Tina Had With That CRAZY OUTTA THIS WORLD, Gritty Raspiness She Had!!!
But I Will Tell Y'all This.... Dancin' Is ALSO Apart Of The SOUL Conversation! ☝🏽 If You Can't Dance In Our Community... People Say, You Ain't Got No Rhythm, Which REALLY MEANS.... You Ain't Got No SOUL... CORRECT, BLACK FOLKS????
And..... Rhythm.... Is DEFINITELY APART OF SOUL....... AND TRUST ME...... When It Comes To The Full Totality Of SOUL.............. Singin' With DEVISTATINGLY RASPY SOUFUL POWER Like James Brown AND Dancin' With That INCREDIBLE Soulful Rhythm, Also Like James Brown..... Trusss Meh When I Say That...... NO OTHER WOMAN, WAS EVER BETTER THAN TINA TURNER, IN TOTALITY!!!
****QUEEN OF SOULFUL ROCK AND ROLL!!!****
BECAUSE ROCK & ROLL STARTED FROM R&B ***SWING'*** MUSIC!!!
    These Are Just Facts, Everybody!!

As to how they kept the wigs on their heads, in her book Tina said they corn rowed their own hair into tight braids against their heads and clipped the wigs down to the braids.

THANK YOU....just as I thought. AND, I'm quite certain the Ikette in the middle is Edna Woods (later known as LeJeune Richardson)........took me awhile, and the dark hair thru me, but put her blond Farrah Fawcett wig on (named HERMAN) and you can recognize her.
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE GROUP.......never anything like it.....

When you listen to the song lyrics and then take into consideration what Tina shared with us of their relationship and then listen to her singing. Wow. But at the end of the day, we all know how her story ended . . . and thank God for that.

I don't understand how Tina could dance that frantically and then be able to sing at all - a crazy workout.
I also don't understand how those wigs could stay on Tina and Ikettes' heads with all that frenzied movement!

Tina's entrance here always reminds me of a review from when Ike and Tina toured with and upstaged the Stones in the late 60's that said, "She comes on stage like a lioness in heat..."

Del Guerrero. You are kidding, right ? I don´t mean any disrespect on your taste in music...there are lots of fans of Miley and Bieber despite negative comments on both...we all have different taste . I wouldn´t want a society where a select few choose what they want all the rest of us to see and hear (like in North Korea). I can´t imagine your idol Miley singing a Tina Turner track just as good or better because her style is totally different. The other way around, Tina wouldn´t sound good doing Miley material. Anyway, that´s your opinion and you are entitled to it.
