- From our 6th Season of Paramount's hit 80s TV series, "SOLID GOLD", enjoy our host, DIONNE WARWICK and THE POINTER SISTERS (June, Anita, Ruth & Bonnie) singing their hit, "Dare Me", arranged and produced by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle").

Seeing June sing with Dionne shows how really underrated all of the sisters vocals were. June is amazing.
Facts. And sounded better than Dionne in my opinion.
@@gbenoit761They all sounded wonderful together and Dionne Warwick, legend that she already was in 1986 when this first aired, added much to the performance. They could have released this rendition of "Dare Me" on vinyl, cassette, and compact disc in 1985 and it might have hit the top of the charts. Dionne Warwick has the innate ability to sweeten any music in any genre.

Dionne is the "Pointer Auntie" we didn't know we needed. She sounded fantastic with them!
Dionne Warwick is hands down a better auntie to have than Whitney Houston's auntie Aretha Franklin. Bert Bacharach wrote is or seven tracks for Warwick, none for Franklin.
@@buildthis99Dionne Warwick was/is a dynamic performer and in all genres of music. "Dare Me" brought out some spice to add to The Pointer Sisters with their already spicy song. It was a dynamo combo.
This is pure 🔥🔥🔥! They really don't support and promote great music and artists like this anymore, and it's a shame.

Dont get me wrong we have some really great singers currently, but in this era you really had to have vocals to be in this genre.
Rip June Pointer. Glad to see this back on here. Dionne sounds great with them on here. This performance was taken down a while back. Glad to see it back on.
Anita is gone now too sadly. As is Bonnie.

Solid Gold needs to release these live recordings on CD and Vinyl, Itunes,,,etc,,,clean them up to perfect HD stereo...!!! This recording is priceless!!!
I agree. A similar television music series known as "The Midnight Special", which had a 1972 pilot episode and then 8 years on the air from 1973 through 1981, has released a DVD collection. "Solid Gold" on DVD would likely be "sold gold". It is about time for a box set release and not a moment too soon to honor all those associated with the series. "Solid Gold" had been on the air beginning with a 1979 2-hour pilot episode and then as a series from 1980 through 1988. There are at least 332 episodes of "Solid Gold" that were made. It was and still is a beloved series.
I wish they got more credit. They truly paved the way for so many girl groups to come i.e. En Vogue, SWV, etc. Also, in my opinion, June was the true star. What a voice and set of pipes! Too bad she took the wrong direction because she could have been a huge solo artist! I love you with all my heart June, you are the greatest of all time!! RIP. By the way, I would have preferred this performance without Dionne Warwick but that's just because I love June so much and she took away some of June's verses, ha! Also, I never knew this performance existed because it is absolutely my favorite Pointer Sister's song of all time not to mention one of my favorite songs of all time period!
They are really big girls, Dionne herself is tall but they tower her.
I saw them perform when I was a very young child. I thought (at the time) that they were the tallest women that I had ever seen. They were like giants.
I think I read that June was almost 6 feet tall
One thing about Ms. Warwick, is that she’s going to be DRESSED!!!!

That was amazing energy that The Pointer Sisters and Dionne Warwick had on the song "Dare Me." It was so worthwhile that Dionne Warwick had another season as host on "Solid Gold." Those cover songs like this one here were done so well!!! There was a lot of energy in that studio.

This was amazing and i want to thank you for these Dionne/Solid Gold videos. Im 50 and grew up with Whitney, hearing Dionne from my parents radio. Since Whitney passed, i decided to do a deep dive on cousin Dionne and ive been in HEAVEN since!! She is beyond incredible and so perfectly polished. As the Musical Director of Solid Gold, I was incredibly fortunate to have been able to work with and witness Dionne‘s magic week after week, year after year, and even though the audio quality of these old videotapes of mine has eroded over time, the musical mastery still shines through - and I am so happy they are lifting lives such as yours!

@@ArtToChokeHearts1 well you’ve got all the titles I meant they performed together many times. Also Dionne apparently was trying to get June signed to Arista records in the late 80s and Dionne also tried to stage a drug intervention for June around the same time.

Also I know you’re probably aware June has two solo albums one In 1983 and one in 1989, the reason they didn’t go anywhere is because June was too messed up on drugs and wouldn’t do much promotion and performances for them like the record labels wanted so the label abandoned the albums and June all together.

Dionne & the Pointers!!! Watched this when it aired. For those interested: June was guest on Dionne's Reservation Album in 1987.... Along with Jefferey Osborne.
The song "Heartbreak Of Love" was the flip to the single, but it's a very good duet. Worthy of a listen.

I have to write that after watching and rewatching this video upload of "Dare Me" from "Solid Gold" featuring Dionne Warwick and The Pointer Sisters, that it is my new favorite Pointer Sisters song and Dionne compliments them so well. It has a mid-1980s sound, but a timeless quality. I love your arrangement, Michael, straight out of the Michael Miller Time Machine!!! It is the closest that I know of time travel. When this first aired, I was in the 8th grade. The Pointer Sisters were high on the music charts. Dionne Warwick was high on the music charts with her "Friends" album and "That's What Friends Are For". Dionne lit up "Solid Gold" like a musical power plant with her solo songs of her own, cover songs of mid-1980s hits, and joining artists such as here with The Pointer Sisters. The 1985-1986 season of "Solid Gold", the first in stereo sound, was among the best of the series and every season of the series covered the music world like no other series, as there was no real competition, especially with The Solid Gold Dancers. No other program on television could hold a candle to "Solid Gold" in all its years on the air.
And June never looked sexier!!!

I think this is the one and only thing I've ever heard on Solid Gold that was not lip sync'd and it sounds fantastic.
This is Michael Miller, and as the Musical Director for Solid Gold, I can tell you with 100% certainty that every solo performance by every host was sung live - as were all the duet performances, as well as many performances by other artists throughout the years on the show. The reason I can tell you that is because I arranged, recorded, produced and mixed every one of them.
I guess I just haven't found them or don't remember them. Right here on RUclips most of what you find sounds identical to the album. Obviously lip sync'd. I feel like I'm texting a celebrity. That must have been an amazing experience. So many famous acts went on there over the year. My comment was actually meant to be a compliment. Dionne and the Pointers just sounded awesome.
@@kjdinoc Actually, I will take your words as a compliment because what I often tried to do was make the tracks I produced for Dionne, Andy and Marilyn’s solos and duets (and many others) sound exactly like the records. I didn’t always do that, but often. And yes, there were also some artists who lip-synched to their records. In any case, it was a wonderful bunch of years working on that show, and I have a lot of wonderful memories. Thanks so much for your kind message and I’m glad you’re enjoying all the many clips from our show.

Where were the Solid Gold Band and backup singer located? This seemed like a backing track.
Sometimes I had my Solid Gold Band and background singers onstage playing live, and sometimes we pre-recorded the backing track the day before. This is one of those times when we recorded the band and background singers day before. No matter what, the host’s vocals on solos and duets were always live.
