I'll always remember her for _Saving All My Love for You_ in 1985. I realize what an immoral story that song is. I knew it back then, too. But I was 13 & every black girl & every white girl my age sang that to each other in duet & in harmony at my school that year. They often sang out in chorus outside, after school. At other times theyd break out into chorus in the lunchroom. They all had such admiration for Whitney. Another one was Madonna's _Borderline_ 1985 was arguably the very best year of my life, & not simply because I was so young. So many wonderful things happened to me that year. I get goosebumps & a rush of emotion just thinking about my schoolgirl classmates singing like that 🎼💜🥲
Nana is dionne’s mother Lee Warwick. Thats what they whole family called her cause she was the oldest. Dionne and whitneys grandmother died in the the 1940’s shortly after Dionne was born.
Yeah, Dionne Warwick & her family friend Glen Campbell. The 60s 70s & 80s would have never been the same without her. I was too young to remember seeing the Glen Campbell Show on TV back in '72-74. But its great to be able to watch it now Burt Bacharach & his Orchestra, Dionne Warwick, & Glen Campbell ruclips.net/video/t0rZEi_lT-o/видео.html
She credits her mother as being her biggest influence but watching her perform, it was obviously Dionne. She copied her gestures, movements, mic tricks, phrasing, and gowns.
@@darkfeather6857 Absolutely. Whitney actually knew it was all Dionne influences. However, she knew to stay away from admitting it because Dionne is a big superstar and Whitney needed to downplay it much as possible. Her mother Cissy needed the hype from Whitney because she was not that popular. Also, I believe Cissy would had been pissed if credit was not given to her.
@@singingmanmd Vocally Cissy was her biggest inspiration, Whitney sounded exactly like her mother. Whitney & Dionne have the same stage mannerisms but she was vocally trained by her mother. Dionne was traveling all around the world when Whitney was growing up and at that point she didn't even live in NJ so she didn't have time to train Whitney. I don't know why that is so hard for you to believe
@@mariahyohannes It is not hard to believe. You have your opinion. It's ok. I have mine as well. In my opinion,Whitney was more influenced by Ms. Dionne vocal style including her mannerisms. Also, to add a tid bit of information for you, you are partly correct Ms. Dionne traveled around the world, but guess who was in tow, Whitney 🙂. She was on the road with Ms. Dionne frequently during the summer months along with Ms. Dionne's sons. Ms. Dionne stated that in her autobiography and claims Whitney as the daughter she never had. Whitney also had Ms. Dionne's long list of classic hits recordings to study as well. You say more of Ms. Cissy and I say more of Ms. Dionne.
😒😒😒 People who complain about today's talent are so annoying. It is no one's fault that you dont keep up with today's talent that is just as plentiful. Ever heard of streaming services? Start there maybe. I was asking the same thing 5 years ago. Got a streaming service and got introduced to so much mainstream and underground talent I had never heard of.
@@goldblue976 People who complain about today's (cough, cough) talent are not nearly annoying. People, who try to pretend today's performers have anything close to talent are not only annoying but insane! There I fixed it for you. No need to thank me.
I have no comment on Dionne because her performances are always flawless. Was just looking at young Whitney and thinking how very fine she was. May God forgive me for saying this, but I wish for her that she had never met Bobby Brown. I can't help but think that her life would have gone in a very different direction and that she might still be here singing beautiful songs had she chosen a better man.
Two of THE BEST singers this world will ever see. God bless you Whitney gone FAR too soon. But NEVER forgotten. As a singer myself that was gifted from the lord above. Thank you for posting this made my day...:)
They are not a typical vocal african american voices but there are so much power and soul with their pipes. Not like aretha or patti that have a high pitch octave but this two singer has a great powerful full voice with huge dynamic and east at the same time.
They loved each other. Whitney always respected her duet partners-always adapted to their ability-never over sang. Especially when it was easily in her power to do so. She had tremendous character and discipline while singing.
Dionne may have sung more duets with legendary singers than likely any artist, particularly when she weekly did on this show. She was no joke vocally, only Aretha Franklin had more charted hits than Dionne (80 hit songs). There’s a great video of Whitney in 1997 singing Dionne’s songs with Whitney noting she never even attempted them (most written for Dionne specifically and difficult songs to sing…of course, Whitney did great job). Is absolutely no doubt the influence Whitney’s older cousin Dionne had on her career, and paved the way for so many others as first Black female artist to win Grammy in pop music
It's bittersweet because this is exactly what happened that day. Whitney called Dionne saying that she needs her to come to the party. We all know what happened that night
You can tell this wasnt whitneys key but she did it to let Dion so she can feel more comfirtable ...whitney knocked it out of the park regardless....she coulve diva'd her way all around dion but you could see she respects her soooo much and sang with soul and rrspect. A true pro
Clarence Clemons wasn't really a singer, he was a saxophonist. But I think he did a good job recording this song. And Jackson Browne is actually a very talented guy. I wouldn't compare this live version to the original. The singing styles are completely different, and there is no one that compares vocally, even on a very basic level, to either Whitney Houston or Dionne Warwick. Whitney and Dionne are great on this, but this song was not written to be sung by pretty female voices. It was written specifically for Clarence as an expression of real friendship between two dudes. Its supposed to be knockabout and fun---which is the way Clarence and Jackson recorded it.
Whitney was such a lovely lady. Such innocence and sweetness in there. Dionne was like a big sister looking leading Whitney to find herself and be on her own.
They constantly cite themselves as like a mother and daughter tandem. Ms. Dionne called her the daughter she never had while the late Ms. Whitney referred her as her second mother.
