    Originally there wasn't supposed to be vector 2 at all. First game was developed with social media in mind, mobile platforms were just an additional side projects just in case if everything else fails, it was during that time when Facebook games were a thing, main priority was to target that along with russian facebook clone VK, that had a strong footing with typical grindy p2w games at that time. In original game there are three levels, but they had much more ambitious plans for the future, internally in game files the level ID's are marked all the way up to level 9, where 10-1 is a tutorial version of 1-1 (yes, tutorial 1-1 and actual 1-1 are the two different levels). Also some time after technopark was released they made a poll in VK about what people want to see in next level, there were three options: high-speed subway, chemical plant and the third one that I forgot :(
    It was before they added 3-11, meaning the canonical end of a game wasn't implemented yet. They also planned to add an infinite run mode as well as pvp, but it seems like they discarded those very quickly as the in-game teasers for those were removed almost immediately after they put them. At least we got lots of bonus levels and chase mode, so it's not all that bad. As for why they decided to go for a sequel there's an interview with CEO of Nekki from when vector 2 launched explaining that they had to pull a plug on vector 1 due to how social media gaming was almost dead by that point and shadow fight 2 turned out to be a much more greater success than they thought and they actually made their choice much earlier than what you said in the video. Originally though, they wanted to make some soft of a add-on or a spinoff called Vector Labs, but after they put some work into that, they decided to rename a project and call it a sequel while it never really was supposed to be one.

      Holy heck, that explains so much. Thank you for all this info I'll be sure to credit you in my next video about Floor 35, and if possible do you happen to have links to the interview or page for the voting stuff? I checked out Nekki's VK account, but I can't go farther without signing in and I'm not Russian. I'll try some way to find them, but if you happen to have them available it'll be a huge help. Thanks again you're awesome

    I played Vector 2 in its release and as the stages go it got harder and harder, but what bothered me is the fact it didn't have a conclusion to all the escaping parkour, we just finish a random stage and suddenly it's over. It isn't like the first Vector, where he is captured after everything, in Vector 2 there is no ending, no satisfaction or lore, it's just an infinite mazed prision full of lasers that never ends, just like a nightmare. The publishers abandoned the game and then suddenly removed of Play Store. That's when the first game got uploaded with many more content to have a new life, it's almost the same case as Minecraft 2.

    I despise the gameplay loop of Vector 2 so much, grindy as hell, until you've unlocked all the pieces of equipment and upgrades to survive traps X times per run you're forced to these stupid moments of "Oh there is a mine, AND a laser combo at the same time! Gosh, should I lose one use of my boots and take on the mine, or the laser?" until you run out and when the next one of these doubles shows up you're just dead, it locks progression behind luck of not facing a double instead of you failing own your own, such a weird implementation and it feels so bad and artificial, like "Sorry mate, you're too good at this, you gotta die on this floor, comeback with better gear lmao".

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  2 месяца назад +16

      Dang, I'm kinda glad I never got to play it because that sounds annoying as heck, forcing you to upgrade your armor. That's kind of like Shadow Fight 2, but at least you can still fight without upgrades for a while.

      @@Nekkodude With the recent updates that added dungeons and seasonal bosses, Shadow Fight 2's grinding has never felt more forgiving. I actually managed to beat the whole game, though I am stuck on the last miniboss on hard mode, which is considered borderline impossible, even in the early days.
      The co-op dungeons are quite fun with each boss having unique characteristics that can either make them difficult or make them exploitable. The rewards come naturally if you perform well. The one thing I've learnt in my playthrough is to be smart with the weapons you buy(if you want to remain f2p). Know what each weapon type does and what unqiue attacks they have, so that you can comfortably fight against weapons that you understand.

    I remember playing Vector 2 a lot, trying to get to the end, not realising it never had one to begin with. But I thought of returning to it back in 2022 and completed the game (with the entire series up on my yt channel, btw). Safe to say, it's far from perfect, but I absolutely love the artstyle it has, and as you mentioned the music, it's a must-have album for me, the music alone is worth it. Vector 2 is a chore, yes, but I felt that once you get the hang of it, it feels a lot like the daily levels in Vector's remastered version. Then there's the Vectorier community built around the PC version of Vector that is essentially a modloader for it. Those guys even made a Vector 2 clone that almost felt like the original game.
    Then there's a lot of fanart, including that of my friend, Kerial, who is also a fan of the Vector series just like you and me. Both of us even collabed for a while on a small comic that's set in Vector's background, and we aim to tell what happens next through the power of fiction.
    So even though Vector 2 may have gotten a lot less traction in its time, it has built such a large community around, even within the Shadow Fight community, that it's almost synonymous with Vector and Shadow Fight. And that's why I think that if they were to recreate Vector 2 properly after doing a proper remaster of the original, people would actually try playing it as well.
    The grindfest Vector 2 gave really feels like nothing as compared to what you have to do to progress in Shadow Fight 2, 3 and Arena as well. People love the grindfests as long as it's rewarding and grabs people's attention. But I definitely agree on this when comparing both Vector and its remastered version.

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  Месяц назад +2

      Well said, I'm glad to see the Vector community is still thriving, and I think that's pretty cool that you and a friend collabed on a comic. Vector deserve more media stuff, like a movie/animation about Vector would've been awesome.
      It's also the first time I've heard of Vectorier, but it goes to show how much Vector still means to players even after Nekki shutdown 2 and remastered 1. Who knows maybe Nekki will take notice and create an amazing Vector 2 Remaster. (And I also agree, the Shadow Fight series was a pain in the butt to play without premium)

  • @Chaooo
    @Chaooo 7 дней назад +2

    I grinded Vector 2 pretty hard for a while. I'm gonna go off of my memory from back in 2016~2018 or so, so pardon me if there are inaccuracies, but this is the way I remember it.
    Some of the parkour movements took a while to get used to because the result of the movement didn't end up how you thought it would. For example, you would think sliding off a small dropoff would be faster than simply doing nothing and running off to the platform below, and it is, but what's apparently faster is jumping before you reach the end of the short ledge. Not a problem early on until you're being chased by the bugs, because when the bugs come out, you can only make a handful of inefficient parkour movements or they will kill you. It's not even a matter of failing parkour movements (like jumping and slamming your head on a hanging low wall) - you were just immediately dead by the bugs at that point. It was more like... you had to memorize every efficient movement, otherwise the bugs will creep up to you enough times that you're dead, and this became mentally exhausting since it was obstacle after obstacle.
    Some parkour timings were tight, and I mean seriously tight. There were more times than I could count where I wanted to do a small leap over a mine and I end up doing a standard jump instead and my heel ends up touching the mine, or I land just past the mine but was too far away from the hanging laser wall, and by this point, I'm spamming swipe-down so I can slide, but the slide comes too short and I hit the laser. I'm not 100% sure if my phone hardware was just a bit too outdated which may have affected the touch latency or if it affected frametimes; it would explain a lot of what I was experiencing as far as the timing windows go.
    Moving on, that's not to mention that you had to unlock parkour moves. Yeah, you could be screwed getting caught by bugs and it wasn't even your fault as you could have played perfectly; you simply got screwed because you didn't grind hard enough to unlock the more efficient parkour moves so the bugs ended up catching you for being too slow. So that was pretty frustrating.
    But what really killed the enjoyment for me each and every time was when the game threw some ridiculous combos at you. The game works by procedurally generating the level: there are setpieces of predetermined wall/floor layouts, obstacles, traps, and bug spawn points to start the chase sequence, and the procedural generation pieces these together. It was pretty good at doing this, too, I don't remember encountering any level generation issues where one setpiece would flow into something that obviously didn't belong and you ran into a dead end or something. But what's really infuriating is when you do something like leap over a large gap (almost like a leap of faith kind of deal) and immediately you have to jump over a mine despite you being in the middle of a roll to break your fall. It was possible to do it, but you practically had to anticipate that a mine would come immediately after **every time you went through the leap of faith tileset**. There were quite a few setpiece combos that, when chained together and in combination with the pseudo-randomly-placed traps, really made you go "how in the flippity fug is that fair??"
    Another example of how RNG level generation can screw you is if you come across a speed boost section and the game throws the most unfortunate trap combo at you immediately after. Because you're running so fast and the camera isn't exactly the greatest at showing what's ahead all the time, you had even less time to react.
    However, nothing grinded my friggin gears more than getting into a bug chase sequence and having to do the "wall-to-wall" jumps to scale a vertical wall. That shit was so buggy, so many dropped inputs or delayed inputs... if the procedural generation RNG threw that at you during a chase sequence, you may as well resign to your fate. That single obstacle meant that you could not do any of the previous parkour obstacles inefficiently, because when you get to the wall-to-wall climb, those bugs had better be at maximum distance away or you're just screwed. Bonus points if RNG also placed a laser or a mine at the top of the wall-to-wall obstacle.

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  7 дней назад

      Yeah I think that was one of the main issues of why people didn't like Vector 2 the RNG made it feel unfair and to be honest the bugs are just a worse version of the Hunter because at least the Hunter is like a human so they still have to chase you the same way which is what made it feel real vs just bugs that fly. I enjoyed reading about your experience with the game it seemed like you were really passionate about it I know I was for Shadow Fight 2 and the original Vector.

    4:01 S… Sensei..? Is that you?
    It's always nice to watch a video about a (somewhat) obscure game people don't seem to talk about anymore, and I'd like to offer my own experiences as someone who did play Vector 2.
    I actually like Vector 2. I remembered playing the original game and thinking it was cool, but ironically I thought that game was grindy so I gave up on it pretty early. When I saw Vector 2 released, I decided to try it out. To be honest, I think I remember when I was playing the free version of the game, I was a little frustrated by the grind, which reminded me of the first game and never having enough coins to buy tricks. But I needed offline games to play since I was travelling a lot, so I caved in and ended up paying for the premium version. I ended up buying it pretty early on, so my experience is different than someone who didn't pay.
    Allow me to blow your mind, and offer you a different perspective. While the original Vector is a pretty linear experience, Vector 2 is actually a roguelite. Maybe this is why some people were turned off by the game and think it's grindy, but the roguelite elements are why I like the game. But I can understand why people did not like it, since it's basically a different genre of game.
    If you think about it: The items and upgrades you receive after beating each level are random. The traps are random as well. And to progress in Vector 2, you eventually unlock different gear/items, and additional upgrades for those items as well - A sort of meta-progression that many rougelites have nowadays.
    Like any good roguelike should, the game rewards the player for being knowledgeable about it. A lot of the traps later on will force you to take damage and force you to make a choice. The more you know about general layouts you will be better able to mitigate/spread the damage between your different equipment, as different traps do different damage to different parts. For example, lasers are commonly involved in "make your choice" type layouts. They deal damage to chest equipment, and your chest armor will always start with the most HP. Additionally, lasers are pretty easy to avoid outside these traps. And so, a player who knows this stuff will 9 times out of 10 choose to tank the laser damage. There's also stuff like purposely not taking the smoothest animation all the time, such a laser at the end of table. If you vault over the table smoothly, you will take damage from the laser. But if you choose to jump on top of the table manually, you can then jump off the table and over the laser. With the addition of challenges, you might also want to approach obstacles in different ways, since the challenge you complete could give you the extra points you need to unlock the next gear resupply.
    The game also has some nice progression, such as with the red ultimate upgrades you unlock. Of course, the experience is probably different in the F2P version of the game, I don't know if these upgrades are unlocked as easily... But of course! Every roguelite has its awesome OP items/upgrades that change how you play the game, and in Vector 2 they are the quantum dash (teleport) and EMP. This loops back to the knowledge part, as these items run on a cooldown timer. So it might be more beneficial for the player to purposely slow down, and get just a few more seconds to recharge these and dodge the next "make your choice" layout.
    However, the game will eventually counter this with the swarm, which will damage you if you're too slow. That's just one example of it, but this gives the game a sort of constant arms race feel, where the game keeps introducing new traps and layouts over time, while the player too will unlock new gear and upgrades to counter it - along with the knowledge to work around the traps too.
    Okay. That's that. I've watched your Sumotori dreams video before, and now this video seems cool too, so I've decided to share my thoughts. To be honest, I haven't actually gone to floor 35, so I didn't know the game was unfinished. But it makes me a little sad now that I know about that. I don't know if I did a good enough job summing up how I feel about this game. Maybe I could've made it more concise or maybe I've forgotten something else I wanted to mention, but I've spent too long on this comment to scrap it. I hope you don't mind essays in your comments section, and please keep up the cool videos.

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  Месяц назад

      Fellow Sensei I see.
      Vector 2 being a roguelike makes so much sense now, dang. I also really like how you explained your experience with the game both good and bad. I guess Nekki were trying to experiment with the sequel since one flaw Vector 1 had that I didn't mention in both videos is that there was little replayability. At first the story and mystery was good, but after you finish it, there's literally nothing else to do other than maybe 3 star all the levels or try out the Hunter Mode.
      I also glad that you liked my Sumotori Video despite it being the one that had a few errors since I didn't research fully. As for Floor 35, you're in luck because the next video will be about just that since there's a whole rabbit hole surrounding it. Thanks again for watching my videos!

    i remember going to level 50 and above. i loved the premise of the game (im a big sci fi kinda guy), but what killed the experience was it just became a roguelite runner with less of the skill checks and more of 'do you have this specific upgrade with you/ do you have enough armor?' checks. At times in vector 2 you can choose alternate routes, where you either use a keycard to go using a safer area (safe IF your armor is good enough cuz on higher levels both are a trap) or a more trap filled area. It also becomes a game of which armor do i wanna sacrifice. The armor gimmick works sometimes but in later levels its just near impossible sometimes. I only reached level 50 and above because i had this one upgrade which let you teleport from one location to another. Sometimes teleporting you to the end. The layout of the maps was also very predictable until the 2nd chapter. by the time you reach that chapter you are so used to memorizing the old ones that the new ones hit like a truck. also each run starts with some predefined gear, so starting with level 1 gear to level 25 or above seems ludicrous to me (still reached like level 27 but thanks to teleport).
    The lore of the game is something which was very cool to me at the time and still would be if they revisit it someday. Overall as a child i would rate it an 8/10 but now imma put it down to 6/10.
    ALSO MICROTRANSACTIONS AND ENERGY SYSTEM on a running game goddamn
    since i did boast about level 50+ i might as well say i got all the collectibles and lore.

      Hey congrats on making to over Floor 50, I kinda wanna try it and see how far I can get but based on what people said and your experience it's probably best I don't unless I use an emulator and get unlimited gems to bypass the energy system.
      I agree that without actual skills from regular rogulikes it feels lacking, especially since Vector 2 is cool as a concept. Also nice on getting all the collectables that's literally what I do for a lot of games. If there's something missing it always bugs me and end up replaying stages to find it.

    since i played Vector 2 i can provide some insights to the game. for a start you're no longer being chased so there's much less tension with fewer penalties for messing up, especially if you make it to the late game stages. the only threats throughout the levels are the traps such as bombs, lasers, flamethrowers and drones. each of these has an armor type that counters the damage. once that armor piece runs out of health that trap will kill you. this can be especially frustrating since the levels and traps are randomly generated. so you'll more often than not, run across a crossroad that'll guarantee you'll run into a trap. there are even some split paths but the safer route can only be opened if you found a key for it, or you have the armor piece that allows you to bypass these blocked paths with a limited amount of uses. and since all of your armors can be upgraded the game becomes a tedious grind. speaking as someone who made it to the last stage, these levels become in exercise in frustration and patience since you need to be lucky enough to get a stage where you can avoid the most amount of obstacles. and the story doesn't even get a conclusion here either.

I'm not gonna spend money to be able to complete the level, because it's just literally impossible without doing so, since there was a "trap" that actually isn't even a trap, because you just have to step on the mine or jump in the laser and die without any other options. It's like:
    - "there's two doors, behind both of them shotgun turrets that will shoot you after you open the door. You have to go through the door to continue."
    - "then how am i going to go through the door if I'll get shot?"

    I absolutely loved the story telling in the second game. It was an additional world building for the people who cared enough to read it. The music was great. The swarm gave a reason to running where as in the first area there was none. I just wish the game was more polished and actually finished

    I remember this game and I think that they had shut down the servers for it way before it was removed. It stayed in a state where the game was locked in a loading screen as soon as you tried to launch it. I thought it was a compatibility issue, as the phone I had was a very old HTC phone. Though when I got a better phone it didn't work on there either, though vector 1 worked flawlessly for the most part.

      Really? Dang that's kinda sad to hear, Vector 2 already had a lot against it and now it was basically unplayable before it got deleted, poor Vector 2.

    Darn, now it makes sense why I wasn't able to find the game on the Play Store. I won't lie that it kind of makes me sad that the game got deleted and the story is left unfinished, the backgrounds on the first area inspired me to adapt them on my story since they look cool in my eyes. Oh well, I hope the remaster eliminated the capture scene at the end, did you know it wasn't there originally?

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  Месяц назад +1

      Really that makes a lot of sense since three levels always felt too short so they probably added that to end the game and save the next levels for the sequel.

    There are A LOT of old mobile games that were deleted by their devs off the face of the planet, shadowgun legends for example, its a shame really

    I remember when this game released. I was still in highschool back then and the only smartphone I had was a Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo and for very obvious reasons it wouldn't work at all. Later on I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab and it was almost fast enough. The memories.

    Nah man screw the Vector remaster. They monetized the hell out of it and turned it into a grind because they knew they weren’t gonna be able to do that with Vector 2. Only saving Grace is that you can buy the original game for like a dollar or something.

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  Месяц назад

      Did they really make it that bad? I'm kinda sad to hear that, because it sounds like they were basically milking the Vector 1 nostalgia to make a quick buck, I haven't tried it yet but I hope it's not that bad.

    I got stuck at the beginning of the game. I can't pass the Advanced protocol since you have to survive a lot of levels and I don't have enough armour to get there, since a lot of obstacles are forced on you and you lose armour, which completely made me rage quick at some point and made me always restart ar floor 8.
    Either ways, agree that the soundtrack is really good and your video overall. Nice one

    • @Nekkodude
      @Nekkodude  Месяц назад

      They really should've made it so that the difficulty gradually increases and put all the unavoidable obstacles later so that way at least you'll have enough armor for it. Also thanks I'm glad you enjoyed my video!
