I found it a tiny bit hard to go back to ""only"" 240hz on my 5yo 32" QHD Samsung Odyssey but the higher brightness of my old monitor is really nice versus current OLED monitors.
It's a little bit comical when reviewers declare 480Hz motion resolution as clear as the reference image when you can clearly see only 45-50% of the resolution is resolved, if you want to see 100% motion resolution resolved, a CRT monitor will manage this, that said, to be fair it's still very impressive for sample & hold, it's just a shame that the FPS has to match the refresh @ 480 FPS, if we could get non frame rate tethered 480Hz (like 600Hz subfield drive), it would be so much better.
My dream monitor is 480hz 4k, ultrawide. I recently got a 240hz 3440*1440 oled and its already ao nice. But in another 3-5 years monitora are going to be close to endgame and 240hz oled will be priced for the kids, so stoked for that!!
You don't need to hit the monitor's refresh rate in FPS to make a high refresh rate worth it. Frames are very rarely rendered at exactly the same speed, so with VRR and a very high refresh rate, that irregular frame rate can appear much smoother. Just think about it like this, in super slow time, your "FPS" is variable between 30-60 FPS and the display has a fixed 60hz refresh rate. When one frame is a little slow, it takes, 1/40th of a second, you might have to want *another* whole 1/60th of a second for the screen to refresh. The total time for that frame becomes 1/40 + 1/60. But with VRR and a 480hz monitor, you have to wait at most 1/40 + 1/480hz. That frame comes much faster, and with no tearing.
Can someone please please please explain to me what’s the point of this monitor??? RTX 4090 AAA games Ultra settings average 90-100 fps, Whys no one talks about it????
