Hi! If you are interested in hearing more about high refresh rate monitors impact aim, I made a bonus video talking about it which you can watch for free over on my patreon! I hope you enjoy
I got this monitor on batch 2 from newegg and i haven't had any big issues other than a weird white line when it turns on and a slight but noticeable if your looking for it film grain against a dark grey background have you had this same issue as well?
@@creamoncrack7088 i have actually, i noticed it on premiere especially badly and thought id damaged the screen somehow LOL
i think its the coating but im not 100% sure, im not familiar enough with other monitor coatings to know for sure
@@ViscoseOCE honestly i dont believe its the coating try turning on the AI shadow boost it seems to fix it a bit also dropping the refreshrtate down to 60 almost completely eliminates it
@@ViscoseOCE But to be fair it is a new technology im just slightly annoyed nobody else mentioned it tho it isn't a big deal with 99% of the things you will be doing it can show up in very dark games or grey applications (ps im in your discord so if you notice anything strange and want to cross check let me know and il see if it shows up on my display aswell)
Thanks a lot for the review, I'll probably wait for the LG one and if I upgrade for a better 5000 series than my 4070 ; I'll probably stick to my 240Hz oled. I'll put a bit of the money you saved me in the patreon, well deserved !
On another note, did you switch to another mouse than the OP1 8K wired ?!
can confirm she really likes this thing, i traveled overseas to australia and she still prefers to spend her days getting pbs on Air

Can you ask her if she can give me her older monitor

I picked up this monitor the day it was available and I can confidently say that my experience is absolutely identical to yours. I have gone through / experienced every issue you brought up in the video and it feels like I am fighting with the monitor before it complies with my commands. It is both the most amazing and frustrating experiences I have ever had, with undeniably stunning visual fidelity but with an irritating amount of bugs.
Windows and GPU manufacturers have to get their stuff together and remedy the issues faced with DSC's laggy alt tabbing.
ive been looking at this monitor since drop and was hoping for a small sale but its stayed the same price, do you think its worth it for someone who plays a lot of esport and single player games?
@@JoseNotJoshif you are willing to put up with the dogwater software, I’d say it’s a good buy otherwise. Only if your PC can push the frame rate. I personally run a RTX3090 and it’s not enough in most scenarios, even in esports titles.
Alt tabbing shouldn't exist, modern graphics APIs like DX12 removed the issue. Legacy flip is that issue, or more commonly known as exclusive fullscreen.
You should be using borderless full-screen, it has *identical* latency when running in independent/direct flip.
@@whatistruth_1 That is what it should be in theory. From my experience, using borderless windowed instead of exclusive fullscreen mode directly impacts my system's performance. Latency might not be an issue anymore but with such a high frame-rate requirement to saturate the monitor's refresh rate, any dips in performance is noticeable.
@@ivan213 so how do you fix that? can you just turn off your other monitors before launching game?
going to buy this to play gta 6 at 30 fps

A important thing to mention is that dp 2.1 does not necessearily fix the alt tabbing bug due to compression. DP 2.1 is a loose term and describes a range from roughly 40gb to 80gb. Also called dp40 or db 80. So if u want for no compression to occur on 480hz at 2k resolution u need dp80, the higher range of dp 2.1. For example sony also dropped a 480hz 2k monitor with dp 2.1. But since its only dp40 the alt tabbing still takes ages and compression still happens. I would suggest everybody to wait for the 5000 series nvidia cards to drop which have dp 2.1 and new monitors with proper dp 2.1 (dp80) to release.
what about the recently announced HDMI 2.2?
@@ClickerFestHave patience. Don't get caught in the hype. Once it comes out, mostly likely there will be better monitors than this asus model and would want to buy the newer one again. Save your money g.
@@gojog59 oh, I don't even have the funds to buy it lol. Just asking as this person seems very knowledgable. Thanks for the advice tho
@@ClickerFest Yeah about hdmi 2.2, there's no set specs as it is yet to be fully revealed which will be within a couple weeks. At least, you should probably expect minor improvements over hdmi 2.1 or maybe close to or better than displayport 2.1. This monitor should've really came with a dp80 port so you could use 1440p at 480hz without dsc which i think the new 5000 series from nvidia will feature. But I also can't afford this monitor and when the day to comes to afford an upgrade, im sure there will be a better monitor by then so makes sense to just wait and save our money.
i picked up the 360hz MSI oled for black friday at $600 and it’s been extremely wonderful so far. 1440p is an incredible upgrade from 1080p, the display size increase hasn’t annoyed me like i thought it was, and 360hz is a solid upgrade from 240hz. haven’t experienced any bugs yet and overall super happy.
the 271qrx?
@ yea
You are the first person I've seen to bring up these issues with these new models. Thanks for the info!
also, I love your vids, pls upload more :)
I recently picked up this monitor and I've had the same issues as you regarding the firmware update (still unsuccessful), alt tabbing and elmb. That being said the oled 1440p experience at 480hz is stunning and feels like the no compromise experience I've been waiting on for a long time. LOVE seeing a video on this from you, hopefully they fix these issues soon and I would love to see a follow up / part 2 in the future!
im so thankful it isnt just me experiencing these LOL, ty for the comment!! my only advice is to try swapping to hdmi 2.1 if you arent on it already, it helped a little for me
the issues with alt tabbing is because of display stream compression, the 7900xtx and xt as well as next gen nvidia gpus have dp 2.1 which has the bandwidth to not need compression. dont worry its not like lossy video compression, it is visually lossless and exists only because of the ever increasing bandwidth needs of these newer monitors.
lmao i found your comment out in the wild but I just want to reiterate;
The issue with DSC is that THE FRIKIN MONITOR HAS A DP1.4 PORT. No matter if you use hdmi 2.1 or dp 2.1, the limiting factor is the MONITOR'S OWN PORT. DSC lag while alt tabbing is the unavoidable truth until there are driver updates/optimisations by gpu manufacturers or microsoft windows.
@@jerrychua9364most others have it, i assumed they'd put it in too. thats my bad.
@ most other companies have it, i assumed asus did too. stupid choice on their end, def not recommending it to people unless the price is so much better than others which is unlikely
honestly super refreshing to see more peripheral reviews that arent just kbm and mousepad
I have been on the fence about buying this monitor for a while now. Thank you so much for the review!! I really trust yours and optimum’s opinions on tech like this.
Ive been super curious about this display since Optimum talked about it. I see noone as qualified and trustworthy than you to review it, so thank you (ill stick to the 360 ver)
For me Optimum is the reference point for all peripherals
I have almost 700 hours on mine, which i got last month. I personally had MANY issues with firmware update, with it taking over 2 hours to do, due to errors, usb stick not working and the usb B port didn't work... It finally worked after an hour and a half of effort. I'm rocking a 14700k and 4080, with mostly over 500 fps in all the games i actually try in. I sometimes use ELMB in certain fps games and VRR in singleplayer titles. Great experience coming from a 1440p 270hz IPS main monitor and few 1440p 360hz QD-OLED's that i've used, and i doubt i'll ever go back.
What games would thatbe? Not Cyberpunk 2077, Forza or any Unreal 5 engine game for sure. Unless you are playing at 720fps.
is using VRR for comp fps games bad?
Fk yes lol any vrr or freesync or any kind of sync just adds more latency and input lag... Not good for fps only single player games@@taffhy
How’d you get 700 hrs in < 2 months wtf
@@whenly6690 work from home maybe>
The problems with the monitor could be related to dp1.4, so it needs to uses dsc. This type of monitor needs dp2.1 80 gb to fully utilize the 480hz. I am waiting for one monitor like this but with dp 2.1 80gb, there are options that have dp 2.1 but it has 54 gb, not 80gb.
this 100%, dsc sucks
yeah I ended up settling for this monitor (because I just REALLY needed a new one) and i'm glad I did because it's an absolutely stunning monitor and the motion clarity is unmatched but my god not having dp 2.1 on a (for me) almost 1200 euro monitor is INSANE. The only excuse I could give ASUS is that the monitor has been in the workings for so long that they couldn't? Which seems kinda bullshit to me but I don't know what goes into designing a monitor and how display ports spec change things internally.
Whats dsc exactly?
@@zyn1304 DSC stands for Display Stream Compression, it compresses the image so it can display it with less bandwidth, this can cause some problems with alt tab notably with Nvidia, some people say that AMD doesn't have this problem but I can't say for sure since I don't own a display that uses DSC or an AMD GPU.
@anathar13 ah ok so it kinda is a monitor feature
Something to note about playing 1080p on 1440p: 1080 does not scale linearly into 1440. Your monitor has to blur some of the pixels to make the image fit the full screen, which will always make a 1080p image look significantly worse on a 1440p display than it would on a native 1080p display. Some graphics cards support an "integer scaling" mode that will shrink the image so that every pixel of the image is one pixel on the display, but you end up with a lot of dead space around the image.
If you want a higher resolution display that you can still play 1080p on, you'll need 4k (3840x2160). One pixel of a 1080p image scales perfectly into a square of 4 pixels on a 4k display.
Another thing to add is that the 480hz offerings are using the latest OLED panels, which improve text clarity compared to the 360hz monitors.
I was really surprised by the text quality on this one. But then again, my eyesight is not what it used to be...
The text clarity on this monitor isn't good but I get that that's an OLED thing regardless.
I got this monitor hooked up with a IPS 360 hz, never had those issues you had. The 480 hz OLED is a dream, its definitely worth it.
why are Australians so goated at gaming AND making high quality, in depth, consumer tech content
Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but I got that same issue of not being able to use 480hz at 1440p all the time but what fixed it for me was plugging the monitor into the 'main' displayport port which is the port on your GPU furthest from your motherboard. I always had the tendency to plug my main monitor into the port closest, but switching it fixed all of my issues and now it always stays at 1440p 480hz
I bought mine last week. It arrives December 17, I cannot wait.
It arrived one week early. Its so good, I wanted to use ELMB (BFI) but it feels "heavy" to see. I've played only 2hrs with it enabled and felt much more visually tired than usual.
So I'll stick with 240hz vrr till i can upgrade my gpu to use 480hz. I haven't experienced any firmware issue, it works perfectly on version MCM103.
OLED is finally getting close to CRT levels of motion clarity, too bad it is limited to high refresh rates though. the dream still is a rolling scan capable monitor
Or use BFI/BLS
i have been doubting my self for the past month for purchasing my 360hz qd-oled and not this one but now after watching this i think i made the right choice and $400 cheaper too
qd oled text fringing is so bad
@ tbh i don’t even pay attention to that stuff i only care about how the game looks . is it different on woled?
@@December23_ text is perfect on WOLED, for me even in games QD OLED colour fringing was showing , like every white colour looked green and blue ish
Dont waste money on QD-oled because it has purple and gray'ish blacks and usually matte surface that takes some of the details and makes white pixels look dirty.
Where as WOLED has pure blacks.
I just got this Asus yesterday, went from 27 1440p 165 Hz Fast IPS iiyama. OMG it's sooooo good. Absolutely worth it, playing CS2 in on another level.

Honestly one of the best review-type videos I've seen in a while.
@viscose Instead of using the 24.5 mode, disable DSC (display stream compression) in the monitor system menu to enable custom resolutions. Next step, use Nvidia control panel to create a custom resolution, 2368x1332 at 240hz, then enable DSC in monitor system settings again to allow 480hz.
Ensure that within the Nvidia control panel, under the desktop size submenu, no resizing is set (default is aspect ratio).
You will now be able to select your custom resolution at 480hz and all monitor features are functional.
You can do this to create custom resolutions at full refresh rate including stretched resolutions commonly used in counter strike or PUBG.
You're welcome 😁
ive been using a 1080p 240hz 27" monitor for over a year. i chose a 27" because i like to play on controller in a lot of games and it seems like the perfect size when i want to play while relaxing.
I have the Asus 32UDCP (The 240/480hz oled). I'll say that the 480hz is amazing however I wasn't really thinking it was that much better until I got the 9800x3d processor. I was using a 7900x processor before with a 4090 and due to the 1% lows not being around 360-480fps in most competitive games at all times the 4k 240hz mode was looking better overall for almost all games including competitive esports (valorant, fortnite, overwatch, etc.). After getting the upgrade in processor I'll never go back to 4k 240 hz on competitive games again. The motion just looks so clean and it almost feels like cheating since I can see everything so much faster/clearer and can even react to weapon recoil a lot better with the additional frames. I'd like to have a 480hz monitor in the future for esports games since I believe with the next generation of processors and a 5090 or 6090 will be able to hit that reliably.
You're channel has grown a lot and I really like these style of videos you are making. Nice job

I have this monitor and I haven’t had a single issue with it. Personally it is by far the best monitor I’ve ever used out of 8 monitors ranging from 1080p 240hz tn panels to 360hz 1440 ips and 4K 240hz Oled as well. This monitor easily blows all of them out of the water for competitive games. It’s unfortunate that Viscose is running into so many technical issues.
VISCOSE UPLOADED TODAY IS A GOOD DAY
You’re such an underrated RUclips account. Keep up the great work!
so frustrating that there is still no viable 24" oled in 2024
this is basically it, I run it at 24.5" for cs2 competitively and it's basically no downside, unless this panel's ELMB performance is a dealbreaker
I love your in depth reviews of products you have used !
i hate you
I swear I love your videos please upload weekly 😭
What you said about 1440p is so real. I have an old acer VA panel that's 1440p at 144hz and I simply cannot go down to 1080p. It's like taking your glasses off lol.
I had to watch the video twice because the first time I was just impressed with your aim and wasn’t even listening to the monitor review but I recently just upgraded to an OLED monitor and it’s a night and day experience for me 😊
Had the exact same experience with my monitor and couldn't love it more even with all the issues
Thanks for a deeper dive on the BFI/ELMB
1130 hours on mine so far.
There's been a firmware update to fix some of the 24.5" mode settings being disabled. I have the same issue with it sometimes being at 360hz - the fix is to turn it off, wait for windows to "disconnect" the device, then turn it back on.
The trick to DSC monitors like this is playing in windowed fullscreen - there's not an impact in latency in most titles
I've been using the 24.5" mode for aiming and cs2 since the very consumer release of the monitor, and it's been extremely nice despite the little bugs. Once it's running and I'm in game, it's all good. Seriously, 24.5" with 1440p-like clarity on this panel is sooo nice for tacfps.
About the firmware updates: You should just use a USB with the update file on it plugged into the leftmost port instead of trying to use driver update software, like the instructions that come with the firmware file downloads describes
I just recently bought the asus xg27aqdmg 240hz glossy woled for $600 . It’s not perfect but no monitor is. So far I love it and it’s a huge upgrade from my dell g2724d ips panel that I had. If you game a lot I highly suggest this monitor if you can afford it 👍🏽
I’ve just bought a 1440p OLED at 360 hz upgrading from an IPS 144 hz! Really excited!
This video was so informative. I was really debating on getting this as an upgrade myself but wasn't sure with the current price tag. Coming from 1080p 144 hz and moving to the best of the best in this current market, this was perfect for me. Thank you for being so thorough. I'm definitely gonna wait on those firmware fixes since I don't normally upgrade for 5+ years lol.
Was looking at this monitor today. Thank you my goat ♥
I just want a native 1080p OLED so I can maximize my framerate. The relationship between fps/hz and motion clarity is so pronounced on OLEDs. The tech will essentially eliminate motion blur once hz and fps starts getting close to a thousand, with all of the other benefits of the tech like low input lag, amazing contrast/colors etc.
Always a good day when viscose uploads
Just subbed, such a great review with issues nobody talked about indeed, you really dig deep!
The first to cover all topics. ELMB really well covered. Would love a review from you about the upcoming gsync pulsar monitors if you preffer them over oled for apex and low fps games.
tysm! i have heard about those but idk if i can justify picking up a monitor just for a review, and im not sure if asus would be willing to send me out a review copy LOL. ill see though!
I’ve had mine for over 2 months and haven’t experienced any issues at all, I just think you got a faulty display. Having said that, oled anti flicker is not that great (if all) and VRR is making a lot of games going crazy (screen goes black and I have to reboot my PC). I don’t even bother to contact ASUS about it since it is a mess to get any feedback at all from them. Picture quality is excellent, though. Also: I live in Europe, where it is even MORE expensive...Cheers.
Expected this to be yet another sponsored vid that covered marketing points.
Got one of the most in depth monitor reviews ive ever seen from someone who is actually good at fps games.simply the best review of this monitor on yt.
havent looked at monitors since i built my rig ages ago and at the time 2k 240hz on an ips was the best thing you could buy and it was 1k, just picked up a monitor with the same specs for 350 on a good marketplace deal, i didnt even know this was posssible and now i want it
Your voice is just so nice. Easy to listen to😊.
Been playing at 60hz all my life. Then I started aim training and have decided to treat myself this Christmas and buy this monitor. It'll arrive in a few days and I am super excited about it. Hoping it will really feel nicer for my aiming since I also play mostly FPS titles. Thank you for this video and pointing out the flaws as well so I know what to look forward to and that it's not all sunshine and rainbows as other reviews have made it out to be. Awesome video as always. Thank you!
I sure hope you have a top tier cpu and a decent gpu.
damn that is a crazy upgrade haha, i hope it goes smoothly for u!!
@whatistruth_1 I have an I7 11500K I believe. And a 4070TI. As long as my cpu isn't too bad from the Intel issue that happened a while back then hopefully I'll be doing good
@ViscoseOCE Thank you! I've always focused on other things in my setup and neglected my monitor lol. Until I started aim training and looking into it, I didn't realize how much better of an experience it would be. Now when I die in game, I can't scream, "I'M ONLY AT 60 HZ!!!" 🤣 Gonna have to find other excuses to rage lmao.
Curious what rank you currently are in any competitive games.
went from 240hz 1080p IPS to 1440p 240hz OLED and the difference is night and day for me. great video
I've had similar issues with the older model pq27aqn 360hz. It was incredibly frustrating how everything in a normal monitor was a problem in this one. And I felt it when you said "wait until it fixes itself" that happened way too much
Them gameplay clips are crazy
defo picking this up as soon as it hits amazon uk
Wow! I'm glad the algorithm led me here. I have seen other reviews of this particular monitor but only you mentioned the firmware issue and a very honest to goodness recommendation. You explained the features pretty well while showing in game footage, which just makes it so much easier to understand. +1 Like and Sub for sure!
This was a hugely informative video for me, I've been looking into buying this monitor due to the specs and ELMB feature, but hearing that there are so many issues still and that ELMB isn't all its cracked up to be makes me far more hesitant.
I will probably wait a while until we get 1440p 480hz+ monitors that don't run into those weird issues as often (many of which I'd bet are due to this monitor requiring DSC to use its full specs) and probably won't prioritize ELMB unless it gets a better implementation with less lag.
Thanks for reviewing this with this level of in-depth detail
Great video. recently got myself the 4k 32inch msi 321urx loving it so far

A Very nice and informative Review, You deserve more Subscribers, keep it up !
Amazing video vis, I’ve had a lot of the same issues with the panel. Also this MEGA from your discord community!
Most people don't realise you don't need to hit a certain FPS for the refresh rate to still reduce your latency.
Thanks Viscose for the in-depth review again. You are the only creator I would trust with opinions when it comes to how peripherals transfer to fps ingame performance. Some people out there reviewing mice while they play starcraft and are 50 years old
I played CS 1.6 , since I was 7 years old, when CRT were around, we finally back to those refresh rates ehh.
Really I never recovered going to first LCD in 2005/6, even in 2012-13 when I was one of the first people with BenQ XL2420TE 144Hz high refresh monitor it was never the same even with first 180Hz IPS.
I finally got a 240Hz XQ27AQDMG and it's now pretty close, still got good reflexes at 29 😅, so been debating 480Hz-500Hz, but I may wait for prices to come down. Don't play semi pro anymore and they rather wait for all the kinks to be ironed out.
Thanks for the review showcasing all the kinks.
your aim is excellent! nice review
That's a really detailed review!
I don't play many competitive games nowadays and my 240Hz monitor is more than enough considering some of the ones I play can't run in constant max FPS(for example R6Siege after they removed Vulkan), but I was always curious to see if there is a noticable difference if you go to 360/480.
Very astute of a review. A lot of us monitor lovers have stated these things youve noted but the allure of 480hz is quite good
Finally some real user experience review from this monitor
Another classic Viscose W video, well made, well scripted etc. keep going ❤

damn your gameplay is insane, reminds of the times i'd have the thought in the back of my head that "nah that person has to be cheating in some way, that wasn't fair"
No.... You don't say... -_- Lol it's so obvious.
Amazing video as always, and I've been going back and forth with myself as well if I wan this monitor. We play many of the same games, as I only really focus on esports titles such as Apex, OW, and kovaaks as my main games, and getting 300 fps constant in apex and well over 600 in both ow and kovaaks makes me think this monitor would be worth it for me. I'll prob wait a few more months for the final stable firmware patches to go out, and pull the trigger around march or april.
ive been wanting to upgrade to this monitor for awhile now, i have a benq 2456 i think 240hz 1080p TN panel, but ive always enjoyed single players games and co op games almost just as much as fps games and the quality of the screen is really becoming noticeable. going to save up for this and upgrade my gpu when the 50 series drops, already have a 7800x3d so i can push some higher frame rates and i think itll be so funnn!!! awesome video.
Congratulations on your purchase !
Really good review, and im glad you highlighted the issues you had! im cursed so I would get these kind of issues too.
I have been looking otherwise at the dual mode monitors, to have both 4k 240hz and 1080p 480hz so I can have best of both worlds after being on 1440p 165hz for a long time
thank u! the dual mode ones look great and honestly made me tentative to call this the best monitor haha, either that or a 360hz oled would be a great upgrade
@@ViscoseOCE I do really want to get an OLED as thats the one upgrade I have not gone to yet. The dual mode is really appealing to me so I can have best of both worlds with both resolution and refresh options

I haven’t had that many issues with the monitor but in regards to the aspect control I have that issue all the time. I only use that setting for cs2 but each time I do I have to constantly close and reopen the game multiple times to get 480 hz or just to get the correct 24 inch simulation instead of a random tiny square box. But all in I am happy with my purchase but if you’re going to be using that setting in particular I do recommend waiting for the firmware updates to smooth out the kinks
First time at the channel. Very well done video...
me watching this fully knowing ill stick to my current laptop for the next 5 years
the thing up high refresh rate is that some people just dont notice it. ive had friends come over i showed them 60 and 280 side by side and they barely even saw a difference
so i def recommend that before you spend so much on a monitor you actually go try it out/try out something similar to it
im currently on a 280hz panel and im unsure id actually see a difference. but i guess when the prices go down this looks like something id buy into
I love how the cat tries to sabotage you 😂
im so supersized by the amount of information in this video. i will be waiting for the LG version of this monitor because it is cheaper and i trust their warranty over asus, it uses the same exact panel and everything 😊
Wow, what a detailed review!
Thanks for being so transparent about the shortcomings this monitor has. Some of those issues are ridiculous at any price, but seem especially bothersome for a premium screen.
In another year or two OLED monitor technology will be more fully matured and prices will probably stabilize at a lower level. Until then I’m sticking with my trusty Alienware LCD, but I’m so very tempted 😂
Keep up the good work!
you were correct, they came out with 27inch 4k oled with 240hz, thats endgame, now we just need 32 inch 8k.
notifs on for my goat
You could try using Latent Sync via Special K in games without anti cheat to get vsync off like latency without tearing using ELMB but overall its very tough to give up VRR and HDR. Additionally a lot of the issues you mentioned are related to DSC. Borederless windows should help with your alt tab issues without increasing input latency in windows 11, SK can also help with that.
You can run 480hz at 240fps rather than 240hz + BFI
This will still give you the clarity & input delay benefit of a 480hz monitor without introducing jitter via asynchronous hz/fps
Great video! One thing to clarify for you though is that you would need a lot more than 480 fps to fully utilize 480hz. Since fps is the average over a full second you are likely not getting a new frame at every hz unless your 0.002%(1/480) lows are above 480 fps. This is probably the reason it is hard to differentiate 480hz from 360hz🙃
