- Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are joined by Director Todd Haynes, screenplay writer Phyllis Nagy and Producers Christine Vachon and Elizabeth Karlsen at the London Film Festival Press Conference of their movie 'Carol'. the movie ia based on the book by Patricia Highsmith.
Plot: Set in 1950s New York, a department-store clerk who dreams of a better life falls for an older, married woman.

HOW is it possible that Cate seems to understand the story and its meaning and the character's motives so much better than anyone on that panel?? Is she really that much smarter than them, or just 10,000x more passionate about the film than them? This is like caring more for your work than your own bosses... but seriously, Cate provides the best explanations here.
Well she is. Also it's like in the movie, Rooney is so intelligent herself but it's harder for her to voice her opinions with words where as cate is so confident.

I watched the film yesterday at the Rome film festival... I held my breath throughout the whole film, it was flawless. I literally cannot wait to the official release to watch it again. You all will love this film. Each shoot, every move, every word is so intense it tells the story like no other. Cate Blanchett is outstanding

Looks as if Rooney is enamored by who Cate is as an actor, but I can see a slight curiosity as to what it would like to be enamored with her..
God her voice, i could listen to her all day.
Cate-I could listen to her forever, what a sensual and intelligent woman.
Rooney Mara is good at understanding the script and portrait her characters. But talking is never her thing. She can feel it but hardly describe her feelings or articulate her own thoughts.
and somehow im fascinated with everything shes gonna say. she not really a talkative one but i like how she admire cate and working with her and with the director.

Absolutely, it's always the right time for love stories and this was the right time for Carol. A timeless masterpiece. I think every (romantic) lesbian woman dreams about this kind of tragic and passionate love. At least I do. With whole my heart. Thank you Todd Haynes, cast & crew for the beautiful movie Carol.

I watched this movie already ten times. And still not enought. I love how Carol ( Cate) lead this love story. It is so natural. And how Therese follow. But at the end, swich their leading part. I am in love with this movie ;)
Me to, and I feel the same way. It is as beautiful as they switch roles. Carol becomes more shaken and unsure, and Carol plays the rolle of Carol fantastic she is outstanding, I hope she wins an Oscar. Love here she is fab.

Also, I feel bad for Cate whenever that type of question (27:28) is asked. She's so annoyed by it and she has to find the right balance of defending herself without over doing it. Also, so many questions are directed at her BECAUSE she is an Oscar winner. She has to field every one of them and make sure that her reputation along with the people she's working with reputations' aren't tarnished or put under scrutiny. That's a lot of responsibility.

Love this conference and keep going back to it. Haven't seen the film as yet, but am so much looking forward to when I'm able to view it. Have read the novel it's based on several times and I'm hoping that the film will somehow translate what the novel was conveying to this film. If it manges that, it will be a magnificent film.
Its thrilling in this era of hyper technology that everything is overexposed to see in the Carol interviews hidden rifts details that reminds us we are all humans. Here 4, 5 incretable moments: 7.25 (OMG "what i have done!") 10.15 Mara's declaration of Love, her smerk listening the word passion in 18.11 the 2 hidden eye dialogue and smirk Blanchett does to Mara from 18.15 to 18 35 her protecting her sweet girl in 24.35 (i havent realise it was a sum) her apologising face watching Mara in 29.18 (what could i say?? they will burn me alive!, LESS brave than Carol but with good reasons tbh) and that sweet guy Haynes so protective toward his leading ladies (he must be some Friend!) Anyway still might be a collective misinterpratation but i never see such a screaming body language and i avent see C.B. glowing as she was glowing back in October. Now in January she is in a different state of mind i guess much more painful. But what a human story MAYBE JUST MAYBE that is!

I love how Todd said there would be billions of new Chinese "converts" after watching Carol! I think US same-sex marriage, movies, and culture will change closed societies like China and South East Asia, and Asia. I hate to say this, but I feel like this interview is such a waste of opportunity to ask interesting questions from these wonderful people who brought this beautiful film together. The questions were not well-thought-out, and the whole thing was just really painful to watch. You can see it from the reactions of the interviewees when someone asks a stupid question. And being left with no choice but to answer, they try to cover their initial reactions by responding to such questions with humor.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is.. If you're going to interview someone about their craft, make it worth their while.

every woman I know is strong. I mean, my mom is strong, she raised two children, I don't know what else do you need to be seen as strong. Raising kids seems so hard! And she married a good man who turned out to be a chauvinist. I mean, I love my dad, by he's so fucking chauvinist and my mom has had to deal with that and it must be fucking hard to do that.

They put down the feminine because in this patriarchal dominant system they have been programmed to do so, it even goes back as far as my grandfather and got unconsciously passed down the line BUT it's stopping with me! I recently told them that they were sexist pigs and that belittling and putting down women is NOT OK but an abusive pattern! They're denying there own feminine aspect by doing so because they see feminine as "pussy" and weak. We must be balanced with our feminine and masculine aspects to be whole because energetically we are both but in physicality look different. Any woman accepting and condoning this behavior in men is doing a disservice to other women!
