They were acting. Of course there have been instances Jolie and Pits, Taylor and Burton but these ladies ARE NOT lesbians for heavens sake. The same happened with a TV Spanish show, the two actresses had this incredible chemistry on camera pretty soon there were rumors flying. Not true.
You're right. "The quote" was that Cate Blanchett is describing what is the story of the Movie, "Carol". No one is saying they're lesbians. ;)
