When you tighten that gland nut. What happens if the gland nut goes pass the holes for the set screw? Or do they line up perfectly? Or does the set screw just seat into the rod which I doubt?.
@andyperkins2523 ya so, it depends on how much more you can turn the piston nut pass the setscreew hole. But if it's less then half a trun, I would just back it off and put in a new setscreew, I would also recommend useing a blue lock tight for the piston nut and setscreew aswell.
The internal seal on a cat 257b looks like there is no way to get it out. I'm totally stumped. It's insane. Have you done a 257b? Not the piston seals. The one behind the dust seal.
@DMtec101 well lucky for me, the gland seals were still good. Replaced all the others so it's back in action. I've done a few ram repairs, but the 257b is a total joke in comparison to others. Thanks for the reply 👍
Make sure the threads are completely unsecured, and I put a crowbar through the ilet on the end of the rod side and get a comalong or a ratchet binder, and hook on bolth sides of the crowbar, and hook the other end to somthing solid, just make sure the gland is completely unsecured or it will strip the threads. Slowly tighten the comalong or ratcheting binder. While tightening, tap the crowbar, or the ilet on the rode with a hammer. That's bin the best way I have found that works
I like and thank you, you are the man, great job
Cool. Been waiting for a tech to drop these how to's. Ive zero experience with hydraulics, not any more...
Helpful in 2023!! Thanks!

I always make sure I line it back up withe the setscrew.
@@DMtec101 so once I get it right the set screw hole will be close or close enough to get a little more of a turn on it to get that back in the hole?

Not much to like, sorry. You showed the cylinder torn apart and not much more.
Sorry I couldn't help you, I will remember to do that on my next cat ram I rebuild.
