  • It's time to finally showcase an exhibit build in Planet Zoo's Franchise Mode! This is a Bengal tiger habitat speed build inspired by San Diego's Tiger Trail, but featuring a Himalayan setting with Bhutanese theming. The sprawling enclosure with a winding path allows for many guest views - from a bridge, from a central viewing platform, or even an underwater viewing cave - but similarly gives the tigers plenty of space to roam and hide.
    Here's the document by Bhutan's Ministry of Works and Human Settlement:
    www.mowhs.gov....
    Much thanks to DeLadysigner's Franchise Mode tutorial, which helped me not go bankrupt on my first try:
    • ▶ How to Play Franchis...
    Also, check out Woody's Himalayan Bear habitat! He did an amazing job on the Tiger's Nest-like Bhutanese architecture.

    So glad to see you tackle an enclosure and it was worth the wait! One of the worst things about making YT my job was that I had to shift my focus to being first, rather than necessarily being best. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty proud of the stuff I've done in the beta, but the fact you can take your time, research a little and go at your own pace is incredible refreshing after a couple of VERY busy weeks in the beta :D Can't wait to see more :)
    Also... 'Rockwork ground textures are set in stone'. Noice.

      Thank you! I don't think any route is necessarily the best - and I was definitely inspired by some of the earlier builds too - it's just a matter of what your channel's focus is.

    Silv, you've made the grave mistake of sending our expectations sky high now :P
    Now every time I look at someone else's exhibit I'm gonna be like, "But where is the architecture of the region where the animal lives? What about the rockwork? And this foliage placement is just unsatisfying!"

    This build is gorgeous.
    But Silvarret, I have to correct you on your misunderstanding of zoos. Accredited zoos are not, in any sense, “animal prisons”. They are usually not for profit, with their entire purpose being conservation and education. Zoos rescue and rehabilitate animals, work to conserve their natural habitats, support and develop programs to create wildlife reserves in native habitats and teach less developed areas about how to live with wildlife. Zoos inspire the general public, and corporations, to actually take action in saving wild animals and their habitats. Zoos need to keep their animals happy, healthy and exhibiting natural behaviour to learn more about them. Animals have incredible veterinary care and animal welfare is top priority.
    Most zoo animals are born in zoos, and love their homes the same way that your dog loves being a dog - it’s what they know, they know they are safe and happy, and they wouldn’t survive in the wild. I also want to point out that zoos exist to educate people and inspire conservation. Zoos are vital for animal conservation and are enormously important for captive breeding and release to the wild. If not for conservation efforts in zoos, we would already have lost the California condor, regent honeyeater, corroboree frog, Przewalski horse, bison - the list is endless. Support accredited zoos, and they’ll support our wildlife!

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +15

      First off, I'm not a zoo expert in any way. I wish there were more in the PlanZoo community, but for now you'll have to deal with my inexperienced self.
      That said, I'm very aware of the conservation (and also, educational) roles of modern zoos, and that they can even be a distant cousin of actual sanctuaries in that they shelter animals otherwise left behind or confiscated. And while some animals can hardly do their natural behaviour in a confined space with an audience, many species do just fine as far as I know. If I really had a negative view of zoos, I don't think I'd visit them or even play this game! But personally I see them as some sort of necessary evil - they're important for conservation efforts, but at the end of the day, animals are kept there involuntarily and without means of escape. I just think it's fair to acknowledge that - and make the best of the situation.

    • @impero101
      @impero101 4 года назад +3

      @@Silvarret I'd like to add, that while conservation of species is very important and noble cause, we humans, are also the very reason these species need conservation in the first place. So Zoo's are basically just (one of) our best efforts at mitigating the damage we've caused and are still causing.

  • @MargaretWalkerCellist
    @MargaretWalkerCellist 5 лет назад

    I am 73 and lived in San Diego for the first 60 years of my life, and in fact, my 6th Grade class visited the San Diego Zoo in 1959, when the trees were still fairly young; now, last year being the last time I was there, the trees are fully mature, and it is wonderful to see them grow all these years! The Zoo is very hilly, naturally following the terrain of the Balboa Park area. It is a world-class Zoo, containing some very famous animal collections. If you can find a Virtual Tour of it somewhere, you will enjoy climbing up and down the roads, without having to exert yourself to do it; it's a fair amount of exercise. However, they have the overhead tour via Skyfari at treetop level, the bus tour, and every INCH of the Zoo is a wonderful presentation of decades of flora and fauna to amaze the first-time visitor to the recurring visitor, like me. Don't forget the Zoo's "sister park", Safari Park in North County San Diego, which when I lived 30 years in Escondido, where that Park is, I saw the cages of the animals before it was ever built, but the first animals there were only encaged, waiting for the Park to be built. We knew the backroad to travel to see their cages where they were stored, animals such as lions and tigers. That was in the early 1970s. Now the Safari Park is totally different than the San Diego Zoo, but the older Zoo helped to provide animals for the Safari Park, which used to be named "The Wild Animal Park". Both are GREAT Zoo Collections!. I too, want to construct in Planet Zoo, my own San Diego Zoo replica, if possible. Our Family lived only 2 miles from the main S.D.Zoo over the years. Our Family house was just sold last year, the last year I paid for a Membership with one of my sons, and we were both able to enjoy the Zoo on a daily basis, for a whole year. Go there. See it. The trees are towering, mature, lush, and full of life. If you want an accurate view of the Zoos, go to Google Earth. I'm sure you can get a detail view from the air anywhere above it. Here's a LINK to start with:

      @@Silvarret Not as expensive as tickets to the UK: LOL! I've been to UK 5 times, NZ 3 times, Canada a FEW times, and never Australia or South Africa. :) But I've been all over the USA except for Alaska, Hawaii and Maine. My first trip across the USA was in my Dad's two-tone blue 1955 Super '88 4dr brand NEW Merry Oldsmobile. I'm one of the oldest of Baby Boomers and saw the historical transition from WWII to now. My Dad was at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and we lived overseas in Izmir for 2 years in the 50's. The world's animals do very much need our attention.

    I'm studying Biology and had a Lecture on how to design enclosures in Zoos and you're pretty much spot on!
    One thing they told us to always keep in Mind: Animals need the ability to run away (or looping around stuff), especially during mating season, it's more important than the actual size of the habitat.
    Looking forward to the release of this gem, keep it up!

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you! That's actually something I forgot to mention in the video - having the one connecting part of the two halves of the enclosure underneath the bridge means that if need be, the enclosure could be separated for males and females - though it seems like Frontier hasn't gone so in-depth in regards to animal behaviour.

    • @Xandalfo
      @Xandalfo 5 лет назад

      I thought that this would be your intention ;-)
      Having the ability to close off half of the habitat obviously makes it much easier to do maintenance work as well.
      An enclosure has to be designed so that the Animals can't get pushed into a corner by each other, they had some pretty bloody examples to tell from our local Zoo :/
      Wondering about those behaviors as well lol

    This is amazing! Im so happy your enjoying the game because you were one of the RUclipsrs I was really waiting for to upload some videos on planet zoo because I know you could do some amazing work with the game. 😊 Some things that you may not know, just to help out.
    - You can check the traversable area of your animals when building their habitats by clicking on the heat map at the bottom left of your screen. Click on the Paw print and then click on the animal you’d like to see. This will show you if they can escape out of the habitat you have created for them. 👍🏻
    - When researching, it helps to have a designated vet and mechanic researcher so that they don’t go and do other jobs and stop their researching. You can check off other job duties when clicking on a staff member.
    - When you’ve researched better quality food, your keepers will not automatically feed your animal the better food. You have to manually click on the habitat, click on the Paw icon and then select the higher grade food option. Your animals will continue to complain about their last meal quality if this isn’t done.
    Hopefully these help out a little, I’m really looking forward to some more planet zoo videos from you! I know they’re going to be great!

    I don't know if someone has already answered your question about the English version of "ijsberen," but I remember from a college project on zoo ethics that pacing and repetitive behaviors are referred to as "stereotypies." Stereotyped behaviors show up often in polar bears and big cats as you mention in the video. They pace because in the wild they have expansive territories that we struggle to replicate in zoos. Captive elephants are also known to display stereotypies like rocking back and forth on their feet, bobbing or weaving their heads around, and swinging their trunks back and forth.

    Im really happy to hear someone being so honest about this game. I think a lot of people try to defend the critical aspects of zoos to justify their love for zoos. Its good to hear someobe at least admitting that zoos arent a good thing. Playing this game of course has nothing to do with supporting zoos, but people playing it need to get more open for critique to zoos and safari parks and i guess animal rights in general!

There is the English term "polar bearing" but it means something different as somebody else has mentioned already.

    this is the type of habitat I've been wanting to see - paths and structures that conform to the habitats, not vice-versa. Also, I have to add that the st louis zoo is incorporating raised walkways through habitats as well. Their plans for the upcoming primate habitat are like that.

    This looks great! Probably one of the best enclosures I've seen so far! And I totally agree with you about real zoos, I don't really go to them since they really are animal prisons no matter how nice they are.

    As usual, your work is awe-inspiring. I agree, the San Diego Zoo is one of the rare exceptions to the animal prison model. While they do create beautiful themes for the guests, their focus is animals first. A few years ago, the SD Zoo purchased the Wild Animal Park (and renamed it) but it’s the largest single enclosure of wild animals outside of Africa. Literally hundreds if not thousands of wild animals in large open air enclosures. Some of their natural enclosure designs are worth studying. Keep up the great work!

      Thank you! For the Indian blueprints, you unfortunately need to have all the scenery themes researched in the in-game workshop

      @@Silvarret Ah did you use some from the other two researchable themes too? I have the Indian one fully researched, but not the other two yet!

    Check out the Pantera project, they started years ago to work with the Butan government to preserve the tiger wild life. The Tiger trail is a trail that connects India with china for tigers, There are a couple of wild males on this trail who made there theratory on these trails and it helps to preserve the population in that part of asia.

    At first I thought you were replacing your main walls with rocks, but you're not, you're wrapping the rocks around them. Wow, the amount of hidden polys! I'm very surprised you do this, even with a real beefy computer.
