- If there was a race for "First exclusive PS4 JRPG" this may very well be the game that won it.
It was certainly the first JRPG I seen on the system, and despite buying it on release I let this turn based Idol Simulator/JRPG hybrid sit unplayed until now.
Was it worth picking up this by Compile Heart and Idea Factory?

I'm a sucker for Compile Heart games. I personally love the Neptunia titles the most. :)
"Takt" is the German word for beat. In JRPGs half of the names are German. I feel kind of honored by that everytime I play one of these games. Although I have no plans on getting this one.
You know, I hadn't thought of that, but I think it's true. I just beat Spectral Souls, a JRPG for PSP, and can think of several characters (Klaus, Hans, Siegfried...) in it who had German names.
Know I'm 11 months late, but... the same goes for Swedish. Takt is Swedish for beat as well

It reminds me of a mix between Fairy Fencer and Trail of Cold Steel games(which you pointed out). I've been wanting to play this for a long time. I love the Neptunia series and Compile Heart tends to make JRPGs I can really get into.

I managed to get this 2 years ago when it was on sale for about $3. I never got around to playing it but someday I'll download it and give it a go.
I've seen this game on sale on psn pretty often; glad to have seen this review. Side note: Mary skelter was really good

I loved the game, I almost have the true ending, but I need instant death resistance in my builds for the post game bosses. The true ending requirements aren't nearly as hard as some RPGs with multiple endings, you might even get it blindly if you load saves alot, but the battle system is really good. The music is also really good to have, but you just can't set it to autoplay because it is a buff.
i finish this with the true ending,but i forget 1 item in the final dungeon,so i can't craft the best or 2nd weapons for the ex dungeon

Great vid. I remember also reasonably enjoying this one at first, but the battle mechanics just kept piling up onto each other all the time, and regular battles were simply way too long for my liking, so I dropped it. That's probably why I'm looking forward to Dragon Quest XI so much, regular fodder enemies eventually fall fast and bosses are the ones that require you to properly exploit your skills, I like that balance. It also didn't help that I kept running outta money for fixing the clothes and whatnot, I just couldn't find a way to make enough money, although if you didn't mention it then it's most probably just me fucking up.

Otto Kalliomäki never played 5. I played a bit of 2 and 4 and while I like them I've never beaten one. Battles just started getting so long I couldn't beat them in one sitting when I tried and stopping s battle half way through always made me forget what my plan was when I came back to finish it lol.
That battle system looks fun. I've been on a binge of trying new types out, but it seems like a step backwards in more way than one after getting Dragon Star Varnir and Death end ReQuest.

For real though, only noticed yesterday that the character models are similar to that of Neptunia. (Luckily, I buy games for the gameplay, NOT the graphics)
Nice review, I thought this game would be better but from your review it sounds like it would be 5/10. tbh I think I havent saw you reviewing any Neptunia games. Have you thought about giving it a shot?
Thought about it yes. I have the original releases of the first 3 (My fiance bought them for me as a birthday present in march) just haven't got to them yet.
I felt this game could have been better, but if compared to other RPGs it looks really good, but generic is pretty much itself in a nutshell. I did however enjoy the interactions between the characters

What other 3D Steam JRPGs you recommend (that are not Final Fantasy)?
Hemang Chauhan trails of cold steel 1 and 2, and valkyria chronicles are probably a good place to start.
I have played Valkyria Chronicles, and I'm currently playing through Trails In the Sky trilogy (after which I will start with the Cold Steel games).
Any other that you could recommend?
I'd have to start scrolling through steam haha. Most of my JRPG's I play on console, usually on sony products. I understand Tales of Berseria and symphonia are on there. They're a bit obvious for recommendations though.

I picked this up cheap on PSN. Like you, I shelved it forever thinking I'll play it eventually. Now you have made it sound awful I have buyers remorse for a game I haven't played that I was perfectly happy with (in theory) before seeing this review. Honestly, I don't know how you sleep at night.

I really enjoy this game, the only problem is the ridicous difficulty spite near the end, it just come out of nowhere, I also had a lot of fun making pvs, I made 8 of them which took 1 hour to 1 hour and a half to make each one, making 1minutes 30 seconds long pvs videos is hard work
The amount of control they give you in the PVS is insane. Out of curiosity did you ever try it's playstation move compatibility? I don't have move controllers so I couldn't check it myself lol.

Tarks Gauntlet yeah she gets points for twintails my favorite anime girl hair style, and her Japanese voice actress did great bring her lack of emotion to life, also I heard that voice acting lines missing is pretty common in compile heart English dubs, I hate dubs so I can't confirm that but I can confirm Japanese voice acting I'd pretty much almost 100 percent voice
This makes me wish for some actual Magical Girl JRPGs. There was a Madoka Magica dungeon crawler a while back, and of course Blue Reflection, but that's it. Some real untapped potential there.
I enjoy this game. Not sure why. And yeah, it is hard to get the true ending. BTW, "Takt" come from the word "tactus", a musical term for the time or beat of a piece of music.
This game cost 2.00$ in the ps4 store but I was wondering maybe I shouldn't ge this game cause how its battle and enemy's are.

A fair review, but although the game is massively flawed in some respects, it's still one of my all time favourites. I did get massively annoyed on my first playthrough where I actually got locked out of even a bad end by missing a quest, because it stops a quest to finish the chapter from activating. My other favourite games are the first Neptunia game (the one everyone hates) and Star Ocean 4 (the one with a 45 minute cutscene in the middle and a really annoying main character), so I must be a glutton for punishment. Against proper bosses late on the order break (where the enemy pushes your party's actions back to get more turns for itself) was also massively annoying.
I done a video not too long ago on "The worst games in my collection according to metacritic," and though I never included the game in the video I was honestly a bit shocked to find neptunia sitting down towards the bottom with a 39.
I would like to see an upgraded version of the game.
Yep, the graphics are awfully crude for a PS4 game (Which originated on PlayStation Vita) - and there's more potential [ More destruction - Jk, gives more of a sense of realism (For real, I started complaining when a yellow stripe came off my T-Shirt. Although, this may be due to being a perfectionist), new abilities for Takt - i.e. maybe healing spells, or an upgrade which causes damage to the ally to reflect back at the enemy (Slightly), Quest counter (Display objectives on screen), better graphics (I SERIOUSLY get a PS3 vibe from them), etc.] - maybe include it as a DLC for core owners, lol
Of course release it as an update, it's highly unlikely that people will be willing to pay for the same game twice
I can not get into compile heart games at all. Tried a number of times accidentally because I like jrpgs and there's a lot of compile games on the cheap. I'll say this, they all make me laugh, and are good for a few hours... then i lose interest. Omega Quintet is the one i got the furthest in, though. So points to this game for that.
What the hell happened to just putting a good ol' fashion level wall infront of you? Want to keep a player from going somewhere? Jump the level to 10 above where they are currently are, the player will turn around completely on their own. Final Fantasy XII did this very well with Nabudise and Necro Halls by having a cutscene when you first enter them tell you what the place is, and that you will meet a very quick and painful death if you continue. You still have the option though and you will quickly be humbled by enemies strong enough to one shot you. Which you deserve after ignoring said warnings.
I actually really liked the prologue of this game, then hated everything else.
The only thing irritating me about the game is Momoka's constant complaining

What a shame when a great battle system with the potential to be amazing is hampered by a poor game. Do you think playing it on a harder difficulty would have made the gameplay shine more?
I tried briefly. You need to use buffs more but honestly it just felt like it made the game a little too grindy to me. With the way the game halts progression it already felt kind of grindy as it was.

Game always looked like a waste of time for me. Compile Heart still makes mediocre games. Fans will never demand more so their games improve very little.
Speaking as a fan of Compile Heart, I want them to improve. And really, they have improved quite the bit. But nowhere near as much as I would have liked them to unfortunately.
At the end of the day, they will always be a budget niche developer sadly. The subject of constant jokes and ridicule.

I think I'm growing out of JRPGs. This would have been my dream game in middle school but nowadays it just doesn't hold my attention. As much as I love the visuals...I don't have the patience for visual novel stories unless they start getting written by Tarantino or Robert McElhenney.
IMO this game would be much better without male main character.
