Aw man, the Mazda B2000.... I learned how to drive on one of those when I was 15, and yes it was a 5 speed manual. My dad took me to the Lost Colony parking lot (empty at the time), and after some practice, put an empty NesTea can on the dashboard. Then he said "You drive around until you don't knock that can over."
Good times, and it's why I prefer stick shift over automatic.

    I pounded miles on my 82 and 96 F150’s .
    Both had the4.9L (300 In-line) 6cyl. I ordered them.
Though they were a 1/2 ton, I put 3/4 ton rear suspension. I worked the hell out of them. My 82, I put over 300K on it and my 96, I got 460K miles.

I somewhat agree with this list. It's it's either an late model 90s f150, Chevy, or dodge those are reliable. But once they get to the early 2000s reliability goes down the dramatically. The Nissan frontier is actually more reliable than the titan in my experience. And for Toyota either the tundra or Tacoma regardless of year are all reliable. For Mitsubishi and Mazda I guess I will have to take your word for it since I never drove one

The Tundra’s really are incredible trucks.
My ex girlfriend’s grandfather had one and it had a bullet hole through the hood, the front end was smooshed in an accident, and I’m sure a million other things that I don’t know about, but it turned over and drove like it just left the lot.

Almost every reviewer of pickup trucks will slam my 1997 Dodge Dakota. I had bought it used from a buddy of mine for way less than his Grandfather originally paid. Living in the non-stop chemical applications of calcium chloride because of the snow and ice State of Minnesota, I had quite a rust problem. Otherwise, the truck was good to me. 4-wheel drive worked flawlessly, and I'd make it to work and back serenaded to the excellent sound system!

  • @Averagegamer673

Again the Silverado is a good truck with near no issues but theres always issues
The 1988 to 1998 gmt400 are near 33 years old depending on age
    The 1500 used the 4.3v6 5.0 5.7 v8
    The 2500 used the 5.7 6.5td 7.4 v8
I would never touch a 6.5 turbo diesel
The gmt800 has issues with the 5.3 v8
The lm7 is notorious for oil starvation
The 4.3 v6 4.8 v8 6.0 were all solid engines but the 5.3 will have oil starvation issues so keep that in mind
The gmt900+ that use the 5.3 6.2auto have gm afm system that will go from v8 to v4 this can be horrible like he said but if you can find a low mileage example out of warranty go put a 100$ tune to disable the system
Just keep in mind theres no such thing as a cheap truck but the list is all the good engines to buy
    3.0 i4 Duramax (do research)
    4.3 v6
    4.8 v8
    5.0 v8
    5.3 v8
    5.7 v8
6.0 v8 Denali escalade Silverado ss in these half tons but usually 2500+
    6.2 v8
    6.6 gas v8 2500+ only
    6.6td (do research) 2500+ only
    7.4 v8 2500+ only
    8.1 v8 2500+ only
Keep in mind I didn't add the smaller turbo 4 cylinders because anything in a full size truck that is a i4 is gonna do nothing but fail
Buying the 2.7 turbo is dumb
The 5.3 and 6.2 will require a tune to delete the afm
The 5.3 will require if after 2007
Early 5.3 in 2007 may not have afm but do research to check
The 3.0 Duramax is made by Isuzu so no worries on it failing but always do research on your engine

A Ford/Mazda 4 cylinder 5 speed was pretty reliable. As long as you only used 5th gear when empty but not when pulling a empty trailer.
300,000+ miles not unusual for those with the motor never getting wrenched on. That also required 3K mile oil changes and 50K coolant changes.
    But only got 25 MPG.
Full Load and a trailer, 55 mile hour max in 4th. No 5th gear or just get used to swapping out the transmission while that one gets rebuilt.
Oh & yes every year the transmission was just different. Enough that you needed the entire shifter and transmission assembly for that year.

Ford's turbocharged engines can be very troublesome, perhaps unlike the v-8s. Recommendations could reliably be made for specific configurations. Locally, a customer with a brand-new vehicle's turbocharger had significant issues, that Ford said wasn't covered. I own a Ram Laramie, that has had no problems; also never had a ride that's this good!

    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 Год назад

I agree with the turbo engines from Ford.
The 302, (5.0L) engine has been around for more than 50 years.
A few years ago Ford put in low friction rings in the 302 which gave Ford a LOT of problems, but the following year they went back to the original rings and the major oil consumption issues went away.
I doubt I’d ever buy a full size pickup again, but if I did it would either be the F150 with the 302 or the Tundra.
We’re currently on our 4th Ranger. They’ve proven to be durable small pickups…, well at least the 2011 and older.
Our 11 XLT super cab 4WD is the perfect size for us. It’s mainly used for work around our property.
Even though it’s 12 years old it has only 36K miles and still looks showroom new.
I change the oil every 6 months, (we drive only about 3K miles a year, so the oil is changed about every 1,500 miles).
I use Kirkland full synthetic oil in the winter because it flows quicker in cold weather and in the summer I use Mobile 1 full synthetic.
As in all our vehicles I change the front and rear differential, transfer case and a transmission flush every 30K miles and every 60K miles I have all the belts and hoses changed.
Every 3 years the radiator is back flushed and new antifreeze is added.

I owned a Dodge Ram 1500 with 4.7. It was the second biggest piece of crap I ever owned.
All the horror stories about the engine are true, from the major electrolysis issues that resulted in premature head gasket failure (and the dreaded “sludge” issue, which was more from Oil/coolant contamination than from inadequate oiling) to failure of the valve train.
The worst part was that Daimler/Chrysler (which was in control of Dodge at the time) totally stiffed customers by refusing to honor warranty replacements which resulted in a class-action lawsuit. The problem here was that Cerberus bought out the company during the lawsuit and took a “we had nothing to do with this response” and beat the court case.

Said built Ford tough and I quit watching. MY ENTIRE FAMILY USED TO OWN FORD. They would buy brand new, and every single one of them blew a transmission or had severe engine problems and don't even get me started on the death wobble. The only ford bought new that's still currently in the family is my cousins 2019 Ford escape. Because it's the only one that hasn't had detrimental amounts of problems. The rest of the family has made the switch to toyota, back in 2020 after my uncle finally had enough and convincedthe ENTIRE family to switch to something else, as he bought a 2019 ecoboost f150 and it blew the engine at 83K miles. All 12 of the toyota trucks and suvs are still on the road, and the only thing done was maintenance such as fluid changes. 3 years and not a one of them has had a single issue, that's reliability.

      Not every triton was crap
There were bad tritons and good tritons
Ford used the 4.6 triton in almost everything from the crown vic to f150
The 5.4 2V was just fine and were pretty solid trucks and since then ford has fixed the issues with the sparkplugs
The bad tritons were the 5.4 3V they were absolutely terrible to the point you gotta replace your engine which is 7,000
The 6.8 im not that familiar with but it seems like they weren't that bad

Let me educate some people who want an F150
    The earliest trucks used a 4.9i6 (5.0 5.8) V8
The 4.9 and 5.0 and 5.8 got phased out in 1996
The next line of Engines were part of the new triton family that includes the
    (4.2 v6) (4.6 v8) (5.4 2v v8)
These all were used in the 1997 f150
    The 4.2 v6 ran from 1997 to 2008
    The 4.6 ran from 1997 to 2014
    The 5.4 2v ran from 1997 to 2003
These all are good engines and only the 5.4 2v had some issues with the spark plugs that ford had already fixed and has a fix
The ones not to buy are these
    3.7 cyclone v6
    5.4 3v v8
    3.5 Ecoboost v6
Although i know the 3.5 and 3.7 have a horrible water pump that can cost up to 1800 dollars to replace
The 5.4 3v is horrible and if it fails it can cost you over 7,000 in a new factory replacement engine
The ones to buy in the f150 are these
    4.9 i6
    5.0 sohc v8
    5.0 4 cam 32v
