Uncle Scotty, Thanks for this!
By the way. Planning on getting a Toyota Vios made in PH or a Toyota Avanza made in Indonesia I think, and both 1.3 MT 2020s. They any good here in the Philippines? Thank you!
Hey Scotty, what’s your opinion on the 2013 and 2014 Honda Accord sport? Are they reliable?
dealers are getting $30 grand for loaded 2015 Tacoma's with 40k miles, ridiculous!
Scotty where I live 4x4s are a practical nessessity and used ones are hard to find. Doesn't matter the brand/model they are exspensive when you do find them. My 03 Dakota 240,000 miles still has a market value here of $4,000 to $5,000. I recently went shopping for a possible replacement $7,000 for an 04 anything I even seen an 09 priced $20,000. I live on dissability I can no longer afford to buy another truck. My old Dakota still runs strong and in good solid mechanical shape. So I guess even at 240,000 and 17 years old it's worth the effort to keep her going.
If you tie Scotty's hands, he couldn't talk! LOL
Best truck to buy when you’re broke: ‘94 Celica
For real though, if you're broke you probably shouldn't be buying a truck to begin with. Get a $1500 beater

I found out my girlfriend's brother in law got a used 2wd tacoma a while ago. It was $19,000. Its more than 15 years old. I got my 20 year old ranger for $1,900. I'd much rather get 10 rangers than 1 overpriced tacoma. I could even buy my truck, and 9 remanufactured engines for it for that cost.

and ? what happened to it? You dont need a cat to run a truck! or u can get an aftermarket cat for $100 ., Cat is not something like engine or tranny failure

I had a 1994 Ranger pickup that I bought from my neighbor when it had100,000 miles. I sold it in 2015 when I bought his used F 150. The ranger had a 3.5 litre engine, manual trans with 4 wheel drive. In the 213,000 I had it ( total.of 313,000), I replaced the clutch twice ( teenage boys ), all the u-joints, a starter, alternator, mass airflow sensor, and the water pump the month before I sold it. It didn't use any oil, no rust (did have a little paint pealing), and everything else worked, AND the seats did not have any holes in them! I let it go for $1,200 and the person I sold it to still uses it for a work truck. I can vouch for Ranger pickup trucks!
Guaranteed my 2017 Rebel is not on this list. I think I’m going to trade it in on a 1994 Tacoma today

1990s Nissan Hardbodies are still on the roads by the thousands. The best truck I've ever owned. Cheap on gas, durable, dependable and you can work on them yourself and find parts galore.
they're also skyrocketing in price for one in decent shape
I drive a 2001 Toyota Tacoma , and I change oil every 5000 miles , runs very smooth , manual transmission has done near 140000 miles and the best part is ,AC still blows cold
Freezing cold? 😄
Yeah that ac system is ice cold

91 gmc Sonoma, perfect 6 cylinder daily driver, easy to fix, easy to maintenance. Had mine a year and never let me sit not once.
Chevy trucks eat fuel pumps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Josh Smith I agree there is something special about Toyota's suspension... It's awesome infact I only want a toyota because of that suspension.... Too many bumps and pot holes in Nigeria....

My work just bought 3 2019 Chrvy Equinoxes, one has like 32k miles and already has engine knocking. The others have 30-35k miles and all of them are burning oil. This shows the lacking quality in GM, ALWAYS LISTEN TO SCOTTY 😂
Just buy the older ones 😂😂😂 I have a 06 Chevy equinox lol but it is a great compact suv still ya blow a head gasket which mine has not done yet..
That is my first car
A good friend of mine is a REAL GM fan. Last year he bought a new Equinox, 4 months later the transmission failed. Because GM had SO MANY OF THEM FAIL there was no transmissions available. Since he had been a good customer for so long, the dealership gave him a loaner to use until they were able to repair his. 7 MONTHS LATER his was repaired. I asked him if the loaner held up, he said that the transmission on it was beginning to fail when he returned it to pick up his.
@@brucejones2354 I have a friend like that who would seem to seek out the worst lemons every 2 to 3 years....always broke down and spending money on them. Had a Plymouth van...Vougyer...then got a Ford Windstar van, then got an Equinox, then got a chevy cruz......every single one a total POS.....bottom of the heap vehicles.
@@brucejones2354 That doesn't surprise me. The ones we have at my work are already starting to have the transmission slip and clunk at like 30k miles. It sucks because GM used to make decent vehicles, and seeing the quality control keep going down due to greed and cheapness is sad.
The 88-98 Chevy/gmc trucks are tanks good trucks if you can find a clean one 👍
Yea if you like replacing ac delco fuel pumps, alternators, sensors, dash gauges read incorrectly.....GM has been garbage for 50 or more years dude
In my country, Ford Rangers last like forever, many people use it and love it.
What's your country, if you don't mind me asking.
I have an '02 Ranger and still is in really good shape!
In 1997 I bought a brand NEW Isuzu Hombre pickup 2.2 5speed , it was $8695 plus tax . I still drive it to this day .

$400 a year for a small GMC truck. not bad.
Since this episode is about reliability it's probably good to mention that the 1st generation of the SOHC 4.0 in the ranger (1998-2001ish) was prone to timing chain issues. It was somewhat remedied after that. The pre 98 ranger 4.0 was OHV and didn't have those issues.
I’d recommend Nissan hardbodies. I had 2 93s. Both had over 200k miles. Awesome little trucks. One had 240k miles, drove it for about 3 years. Never burned oil or anything. Only thing I had to change was the belts and a couple light bulbs. Oldest and highest mile truck I ever had, only one that didn’t give me problems. Until a lady rear ended me texting and driving.
Many could have gone even longer if not beaten into the ground without care. Mine is at 423,000 now. Need to rebuild the original front end. Seen these in junkyards with very little wrong with them. Very sad. I would buy them to restore if I had the chance.
I have a 2017 Frontier 4 cylinder, no power door locks or windows but the simplicity of it was what sold me on it. Would buy one again.
I agree. I have the 4 cyl Frontier with roll down windows. I bought it used and ordered a color coordinated cap for it and drive it every day to work. Always gets 19 -20 mpg. Has never been to the dealer for service but gets the oil changed with synthetic oil and Napa gold oil filter every 5,000 miles.

I ❤️my 2010 Ranger! It just turned 247,000. Runs great. Original 2.3 engine and transmission. Doesn’t use oil. Body solid. I want to pass 300,000 at least!
I used to have a 1985 Nissan 720 pickup. That thing was a tank. The previous owner abused it, but the 2.4 liter (Z24) engine still ran like a top, and the 5-speed manual transmission worked great. I wish I had never sold that truck.
I miss my '96 Ford Ranger. Had over 350,000 km on it with the 3.0L V6. Loved that truck.

Honorable mention should be the venerable Chevy S10. Have had my 2002 4cyl, 2wd, regular cab for a while and that thing has been nothing but good to me. Thankfully bought it with the transmission already rebuilt.
Just bought a Chevy S-10 2001, previous owner took great care of it. It came with the 4.3 and everything works great. Can't complain.

I have the 2003 S-10 with the 4.3 liter V-6, Extended Cab. I bought it in 2006 with 89K miles already on it. It has 199K miles now, original engine and trans, and neither has been rebuilt, and the AC still blows cold air. I did keep the oil, and trans fluid changed religiously, myself. The only thing i`ve had to do is change the heater core,,,,thats it. I see so many of those still around today, and they`re dependable little trucks.
Just something to consider, if you can find one with lower mileage
Scotty, Your words are so true! Currently, I cannot find a decently priced Taco and the Rangers are a dime a dozen! Way back in 2003, I wanted a Tacoma and settled on a 2000 Ranger 4x4 off road extended cab for over 6K less! Had a great time in that truck!

Great video again Scotty! I have a 2001 Toyota tundra access cab that I bought six years ago for $5600 with 118,000 miles on it. Granted I had to fix a bunch of stuff but I’ve been driving it for six years! It now has 220 on it I have about 9000 into it all together but I haven’t put any money into it except for normal maintenance in three years! New frame went under it two years before I bought it and the body only has minor paint bubbling Here and there.
I had one of those Mazda B series pick ups it had the four-cylinder engine in it that had been overheated. The oil rings seized to the pistons from heat. I put new rings and rod bearings in it, never touched the main bearings. I used silicone for an oil pan gasket. The valve cover gasket was reused with a very fine layer of silicone as added sealer. I also reused the exhaust manifold gasket as it was a solid piece of metal. The only thing I bought other than the rings and Rod bearings was a head gasket and an intake manifold gasket. I drove that truck trouble free for another seven years before it finally gave up the ghost. Best $400 truck I ever purchased.

The Tacoma is the best-looking small 4x4 pickup truck. Probably the most durable as well. The OLD Ford Ranger was a good workhorse too.
my 2011 fx4 ranger is an absolute beast. I've done nearly 200,000kms and 100k of those have been what i would consider serious off roading.. not to mentions im always ripping it ... Great recommendations! I drive an '06 work model F-150 right now. It was a fleet truck. 267K miles on it right now, and it runs great. '93 Ford 250, put the same miles on it. '01 Chevy S-10, put the same miles on it. 2002 Chevy 1500- 4.3 ltr V6, lost it in a flood, but I'd still be driving it now. Mid 90's Dodge Dakota, single cab long bed, 3.9 V6, manual transmission.... that thing was a small tractor. It was like a small 3/4 ton in a way. Slow but steady!
Scotty you have WISDOM, very good advices...thanks
Looking for one of these now and I've stuck with your recommendations. Thanks!
@Auto Buildz just sold mine great truck, just wastes too much gas.
Scotty! Do more mini documentaries! We love it!
Thanks for this!
By the way. Planning on getting a Toyota Vios made in PH or a Toyota Avanza made in Indonesia I think, and both 1.3 MT 2020s. They any good here in the Philippines? Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I own an 05 Nissan Titan and I’m starting to have some issues that are just too expensive for me, especially getting gas for a 5.3😭😭. Thinking about buying an old ranger after I sell the Titan so this video really helped!
Scotty, thank you, I have a 6 cylinder 04 ranger. And you've convinced me to go with a 4 cylinder or a nice Tacoma. Appreciate the great advice.
He says : “go to a junkyard” , and up flashes a Chevrolet dealers sign (:- )
S10/Sonomas are great little trucks too. Cheap and easy to work on. The 4.3l is bulletproof . I've had 2 now. And my friends have had a couple as well. Didnt have to put a dime into the first one I bought . Was a 98 4.3l 5 spd stepside zq8 for 600 bucks. The one I have now is a 00 sonoma longbox reg cab but this one was neglected and needed lots of work but only has 176000 kms. Into it for about 2000$ CAD
Mom bought her frontier brand new in 2003. Still running great 18 years later. Its sound made me think it was made for racing, too bad they came with governors, cant go faster than 90.
Good practical ADVICE. .from an expert...!
Waiting all night for you to upload. And finally!
I love GM but scottys right, the last 20 years they’ve been going downhill fast. Love my 97’ and 98’ K1500 Silverados!!!
GM PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN JUNK FOR 50+ YEARS CONSTANT AC DELCO FUEL PUMPS, INTERIORS FALLING PART ECT ECT BAD SENSORS
Thanks Scotty. Perfect timing, I'm looking for a used pick up.
my 1995 Nissan Pickup just hit 700k miles with regular maintenance, a changed timing belt, and an oil pan
So many people in the comments of these videos saying crap like: "I have a 2001 Chevy Silverbullet 9001. It has 540,000 miles, and has never given me a single problem in the 10 years I've owned it. It can tow continents together and gets 600 mpg". It is insane how beyond butthurt people get because they happen to own a vehicle Scotty doesn't like. Scotty isn't personally attacking your brodozer guys. All he is doing is giving his professional opinion.
I had a 1991 S-10 mini truck it was my favorite truck easy for me to get in and out was like a goat cart easy to fix fun little truck
Awesome video, thanks Scotty!
My 1996 Ranger small cab 2 wheel drive I bought used 50000 miles or so. Had an AC that made you wear a sweater in July. Wish it was still here. Very good truck..
My '01 Frontier only has 102,000 miles on it and it runs like a top...had the head cover off and it was clean and golden inside. Can't beat the KA24DE motor. It ain't fast, and it ain't big but it's done everything I asked it to.
Yep, same one, but 2009. Agree apsolutly.
Hey Scotty! Enjoy your videos! When you talk about used pickups I’ve never heard you mention Ford Explorer Sport Trac. I have had an ‘02 for ten years, and it’s been the most dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. As a mechanic, what is your experience with them?
Thanks Scotty I am 17 and just got my license and you are helping me out getting my first car thanks man
I picked up a 2005 nissan frontier manual for 10,000 at a dealership with 71,000 miles. I just got a third party warranty and don't worry about anything breaking!
