I got my budgie from a breeder. The first day I had my hand in the cage and had him eating from my hand. I'd spend all my free time sat next to the cage just talking to him while I watched TV or ate. He was let out after 4 days and was flying to me. He's over 1 year old now and is the most affectionate budgie I've owned. He has these rubber ducks that he loves and he gets jealous if I pay them attention and not him

Thank you so much. I'm trying to take care of my little blue chicken these days. She used to get farther away from me when I got close to her cage in the past but after we moved and i started spending more time near her because of my little job, she now doesn't fly away, she just goes crazy when i reach my hand inside her cage to fix something or fill her food and water. İ sometimes baby talk her while working and my sister says that she listens to me very well. İ love my little nugget, and yesterday I almost couldn't sleep thinking of watching your videos to learn about bird care and to take better care of her. Thank you, I really hope this works. My bird thinks he’s my boyfriend and screams when he’s not with me, he constantly bites me but I’m trying to train him out of that. I spend everyday with him and didn’t know what else he wanted since he’s always with me. I love him so much and cuddle with him (when he lets me), share food with him and (attempt) to play with him. I let him fly around and get exercise but my dad has really bad anxiety and my bird really stresses him, so he yells at me when my bird is flys around. If I can’t train him my dad is going to get rid of him so I really hope some of these work. Love your channel by the way.

Okay, i must be really lucky and i want to tell my story rn.
So i've bought Tosha like a week or two ago. He's like 1 month, just from the nest. He escaped the first time, but we captured him quickly. So, i got him into the cage and started talking with him. After a little bit of time he started to go onto my hand, and i could even groom and scratch him! Crazy right? But he still wouldnt go onto my hand by himself. At somewhere day 5-6 he started to go onto my hand without me making him. He even started to fly onto my hand these days! This is my first tamed budgie, and im so happy.
I was getting budgies when i was like 10 and i didn't even care about them, now i do. Just get them when you're like 13 and be really persistent. Good luck!

    • @Hasan...

How young are we talking if I want them to become fully tame eventually..? I would appreciate if you can advise based on your experience. I got mine (two of them) completely untamed from a pet shop when they were around 6 months old, and now (after 3 months). I spent quality time with them and they're tame enough to step up, fly to me (if I have a millet spray), eat from my hand, even do a few tricks (for the millet spray), they're quick learners! --- BUT --- not tame/trusting enough for me to move them around in the house on my hand or pet them on their head etc,.. Assuming I continue to do everything right, and since my budgies are cooperative, how long do you think it'd take for my budgies to become fully tamed with 100% trust? Thanks!!

My new budgie is a scaredy-cat! And It took him 4 days to find his large water bowl in the cage! That luxury water thermos with the metal button on it is as useful as a large rock. In 100 years he won’t know that he can get water out of it. Thus I bought two birdy-water-bowls for him. So far his favourite playtime activity is flying around the house screaming like a maniac. I got 4 budgies a month ago. It’s difficult to tame them all especially that each one of them has their own personality. Also females are aggressive and so scared still, and fly away when I feed them. The males are so friendly and slowly getting used to me.
I usually open the cage for them everyday, they roam in my room as much as they like, then get back to the cage by themselves. But I wish if they can get on my hand and stop flying away from me 🥺

@@skibidoop2355 thank you. One of the males started to build a bond with me, he responds to me when I talk to him, jumps on my hand when I reach him, and sometimes stays on my shoulder watching with me. He’s adorable 🥰
What worries me is the females, I think they’re difficult to tame and control. One of them is bossy and loud, I believe she’s jealous as well, whenever I feed them, and they get on my hand, she makes these budgies loud noises, fly over them to push them off my hand and disturb them, causing them to fly away and hang at the top of the cage. The other one is scared all the time and only cares about her swing lol she literally fights for it when the others get on it 😂

Years ago I adopted a Kakariki who, from day 1, would return to his cage on command altough he never was trained in any way. Truly a blessing.
My two budgies on the other hand who were already around 4 years old when I adopted them were super stubborn for a long time and often refused to return to their cage unless they got hungry.

Sadly, I have to accept the fact that I will never be able to tame the budgies I care for. My elderly mother has 2 birdies and I take care of them, but since we do not actually live together I can't seem to be able to spend enough time with them. When the male came as a baby, after the other male got sick and died, he would eat from my hand and hop on my finger, but the more time he spends with the female, the more he seems to fear me. Now, neither of them will even eat from my hand. My mom has no interest on taming them, she likes to hear them sing and talk to each other all day, and while I would love to have a better relationship with them and be able to let out of the cage, it appears it just won't work out. I can't take them to my tiny apartment because I have two cats and 4 dogs already in there and no separate rooms except the kitchen, so the budgies will have to stay where they are. At least they have a large cage, good food and many toys. 😒

For anyone who doesnt know: you should get a bird from a breeder since if u get it from a breeder the bird when it grows up thinks that hes ur kid and will not be terrified from you the reason i know this is because i got a baby bird and a grown up bird and the baby is so much more nice instead of the grown up the grown up one i have is really aggressive (hope this helps!)

I haven't found a video answering this question. I had 2 previous parakeets and just got a Cockatiel. Do I tame my cockatiel in the same room as my parakeets or do I keep him in a seperate room until I tame him? He is very interested in my parakeets. He eats millet out of my hand but attacks my hand or finger when he thinks he's in danger or I move it suddenly. I try to stay very still, but he sometimes thinks I'm going to do something.
