I just got two new female budgies whose poorly designed cage from previous owner has made them into quite the escape artists. So I will definitely use these tips to help them get used to me!
For new bird owners this is actually a decent video. Coming from a person who a has raised a few baby cockatiels and now has adult budgies that I still seem to have a tough time with.
We recently adopted a third parakeet from a student of my mom because the wife of the parakeet he had died a bit before. Luckily, they managed to tame him and since we have him along with our other two parakeets, when we offer them snacks, the new parakeet will basically always come and eat first and sometimes the others also come with him. This has been one of my biggest dreams since I got my first parakeets. They also got more and more curious and often run around on our table.
I hope to use this to tame my 3 birds. I've had them since quarantine and they've been given away to 4+ houses! Ik they need time but I'm hoping with some work I can get them to finally trust me! 😌
Thanks for the video!! I actually just got my two parakeets today, they were exhausted once I got home so they're currently sleeping rn-. Thanks again, have a nice day.
I’ve trained 3 budgies now that where all aviary raised and I never kept them inside their cages till they were tame. I used the method that you showed by putting millet in the cage and then I would step away so the birds could fly in without fearing me. It worked every time. Now my budgies are tame and have learned recall but if your budgie isn’t tame you can use this method. Don’t keep the poor little bird confined in a tiny cage until it have learned to trust you. You can do a lot of off hands training till the bird gets comfortable around you
I also have 3 budgies that live in an aviary! I did it a similar way, just kind of hanging around in the cage but away from them for a month or 2, until eventually they got comfortable to take food out of my hand (were treated bad in previous home and weren't very trusting of people which is why it took so long). Now they don't even need to see food to sit on my hand or shoulder, and they trust me heaps (I still give them treats when they step up). When I had to put one in a cage because he was sick, I let him sit on one hand eating a treat and gently picked him up with the other. He didn't particularly like it, but after a few times of doing it irregularly he doesn't mind too much anymore :)
I’ve just started to let my bird out and each time he goes back himself he gets tired and I see him trying to get back sometimes he needs help sometimes he refuses like look I can do it mummy but I feel sad cos each time uve closes the door I should leave it open but I’m deffo going to do some morning no food training with millet as the treat he don’t get 🙌🏻 I’ve learnt a little from these vids but I deffo can’t cage train him now he’s tasted freedom past 3 days but so far he’s gone back himself once tired 🤷🏻♀️ so idk but I’m learning a lot thanks x

I've had my pet parakeet, Flapjack, since December of 2022. This is my first time owning a bird and the only pets I have taken care of are cats, fish, and rats. Currently, it's just three cats and Flapjack. Even though I've never had a bird there are some things as a pet owner you pick up on such as giving them space in the begining. I got Flapjack from a pet store so I knew it would be tough and take longer than usual to gain their trust and yet I still worry. I've tried to keep myself calm and that with time and effort some day Flapjack and I can be best buds, but I'm starting to worry and I freak out over the thought of failure. But I don't want to give up on trying I'm just really bad at doing the whole once every day thing. I have made a few mistakes like letting Flapjack out of their cage I will admit, I'm not proud of it, and, not on purpose, making them freak out and fly around in their cage. I feel like everything I do makes it worse. As of this moment, I can hand-feed them by holding a small piece of spray millet in my fingers or even some seeds. I understand a few body language cues such as puffed feathers or standing on one foot. I'm a sophomore in high school who is usually burnt out from school when I get home. I try my best with talking to Flapjack but I never know what to say, my mind goes blank. Other times I'm ranting to Flapjack. I sing to them sometimes or read a book, although I haven't done that for a few months. I've made sure Flapjack has everything they need in a cage. Some other things I want to mention either because I don't know what it means or if it might help are that Flapjack would bite at his hammock (that's what I call it might be called something else) made of seagrass. Flapjack used to bite through them so much I had to keep getting more but then they stopped for a while and started again recently. (Flapjack also lives in my room with me) Flapjack sometimes will stand on their perch and flap their wings a lot. I also have a black sheet that goes around to cage for when it's time to go to bed. Compared to when I first got Flapjack to now, there is a huge difference. I just was hoping anyone who knew more about birds could help with my problem. I hope to be able to pet and hold Flapjack. Have I already lost Flapjack's trust for good? I deeply appreciate any advice/help.
I relate to what you are going through. She’s my first bird and I feel like I keep making mistakes and that the potential for trust is gone. I hope we both can gain their trust though!
I totally relate, I’m also a sophomore and a bird owner I used to have two budgies, but one of them, Tweety, passed away recently. Tweety trusted me enough to sit on my finger and relaxed when I sat by their cage. Sweety (my other budgie) and I don’t have a relationship yet. She is very shy and nervous and has had some traumatic experiences of being let out of the cage by accident. Recently I’ve started to train her now that she is so lonely, and I’ve just been sitting by her cage until she relaxes. Eventually I plan to place my hand on top of the cage, and then once she is used to that I will start to put my hand inside. It is difficult to train a bird after worrying that you have broken its trust, but I think that since parakeets are so social and need love, they will bond over time if we are willing to have patience. Hope this helps and good luck with Flapjack 👍👍
Thankyou very much! I am thinking to get a budgie i was really worried how to tame it but then my sister told me about your channel she has 2 Cocktiel And she also trained her Cocktiels with the help of your channel.
I love your videos because my friend has a lot of problems with her pet budgie Kiwi! Kiwi is very stubborn to tame so all the videos I've watched was very important to me and my friend thank you!❤❤❤❤
birb is always gonna be a birb Edited: I have 2 budgies One bird will try to follow me in the cage sometimes and doesn’t get scared when I feed the treat and preening it self when I’m nearby sometimes does that mean anything?
My budgies are the exact opposite, the female trusted me from day one and wouldn't leave my side but the male took 1 year to tame! I just started making progress with him thanks to you!
Hello there, I had a quick question. What type of bird cage do you have or suggest? Because I'm supposed to be getting my budgie/parakeet during the summer and still thinking about what kind of cage would be okay for a single one
Thank you for your very good and educative video! My pet canary birds go back to their cage mostly immediately when I ask them to. I have trained them to go back to cage since they were young by asking them to go back by saying to them "to cage", or "cage" or both by asking them "to cage" and showing by hand motion them to go to the cage. I think this method might also work for budgies, but it has to be taught to them when they are young. My canaries follow hand motion signs along with talked requests by me, which I use with them daily when communicating with them.
Exactly! I have more than one bird in one cage, when I offer them food from my hands, they get nervous, until one of them start eating from my hands and everyone suddenly do the same, they learn from eachother.
Do you have any advice on how to do this? I adopted a bonded family of 7 and every source says to separate them, but I don't want to do that and stress them out
I had to take in 5 budgies from the nest since they were hurt and harmed by their older siblings and were on the ground lying. But I can confidently say I was able to tame them :).
I have 2 untamed cockatiels and they are both 5 months old and i want to tame them, i have 2 cages but they are living in one and has been living together for about 3-2 months and i was wondering if it would be stressed out and pass away if i separate them into different cages and room to tame them and then ill let them in the same cage after tamed, will that hurt my bird?
Hey man can you help me? I have a green parrot and I bought sunflower seeds for it today and it doesn’t want to eat them he tried them and didn’t eat it since I cannot buy millet spray because they don’t sell these here and I gave it food that he would eat he only eats that and meanwhile is freaking it and that is under his cage now and he’s picking it from there
@@x-cord_8878 Try using vegetables, there are some birds who enjoy vegetables rather than treats. Reminder: Always google the plant before you give to ur bird to confirm whether its toxic or not.
Separating your birds ONLY while taming is a smart move, that's how they won't distract each other and you'll get results much faster. Just don't forget to put them back together after each session of taming.
I used to have a cute bird he was named Blue. He was very smart but sadly he died from food poisoning. And i got a new bird named cupcake, and thanks for posting this! I really need to train him! RIP Blue. You will be missed.
Thank you so much for making this my birds are now stepping up on my hand and eating from my palm sometimes they will come out of their cage if they wish but I do not force them
I have 4 rescue budgies and Surprise when I mistook an egg ready to hatch for a dis and the next morning a food bowl chirped at me (we replaced all food bowls with silo feeders). Well my oldest Sunny (7-9 years old) came to us after being in 3 other homes and cannot fly we assume from poor food and being kept her whole life in a small finch cage. She finally learned that me picking her up wasn’t going to kill her ad we hang out whenever she feels like it(I have also made ladders and bridges for her to get anywhere she wants to and is never trapped on the floor. My other three rescues came together after their owner died, Mr. Sinatra, Ava and Marilyn, and are still fearful of being touched or handled but they are free to explore and fly around and always return to their cage. Sinatra flies the most the 2 ladies both have maroon eyes like my cockatiel and seem to have similar eye issues, Ava's seem better than Marilyn's, Marilyn rarely leaves the cage unless they startle her, once on the floor Marilyn tries to fly back to cage but has no lift. I think this is because she’s a pudgie budgie and because of not being able to see well to exercise and the fact Sinatra likes to feed her all the time she has become a chonker. I let all of them just do their thing and they are happy, chirpy little birds, now then baby Surprise(not even 6 months old yet, he’s Sinatra and Ava's baby) is a total jerk, lol. He's the one I figured I’d have the best chance of befriending but thus far he’s had other plans, he’s pretty and vocal and a terror to my 2 cockatiels who are terrified of him, I think he moves to fast for my red eyed one to follow so she’s actually less bothered by him. I’ve tried step up which he does if he feels like it, he doesn’t seem to have any treat he'll eat from my hand and he’s just so much fun to watch going about his budgie business. I give my birds a quiet time daily mid afternoon, the only one who isn’t in his cage at quiet and sleep time is the little stinker Surprise, for him it’s a process to be followed daily, first turn off 2 of three lights, next turn on classical music followed by chase him from one side of the cage to the other at least 3 times while asking him sweetly to get in his cage, then you have to use a scolding tone telling him to stop being a jerk….then he climbs into the cage like he was planning to the whole time.(at which time I tell him he's a good baby bird and such a handsome fellow, turn off last light and go to my room.). Budgies are such little characters.
Can someone help me? So I just got a female bird for my male bird 3 months ago and I’ve had my make bird for 1 year which I still haven’t gained his trust since my parents never told me anything about a bird so I finally decided to watch this video, the only problem is if I take my male bird into a different room my female bird gets stressed and scared, I don’t want to make her get anxiety but I want to take my bird at the same time. I just have no idea how to take my male bird into another room without stressing her out
I have 7 untamed budgies. Out of them 3 likes to hangout out of the cage. I kept a perch at the opening and they started to come out. I have never forced them to go back to their cage. They just come out and go in for food 😄
When I went to my pet store I saw (my now owned) budgie, it's white with a little grey on its belly and wings, when I said I would take it when I got home it was terrified, but it would hop on my finger, It also sits on my shoulder! It has not ate anything besides a little millet, but I'm hoping it will warm up to me soon!
I got my bird thu 29 of September 2022 and 30 of sep 2022 I was teaching it not to bite and it didn’t after a while my bird got comfortable with me a little bit I love my bird sunny
Ayo! I have a lovebird and a budgie. I have the lovebird since February and she loves me. I have got the budgie this June, but so far he's still really scared. I have already been doing most of these things step by step with both the birds, both of them won't really accept treats, but I'm gonna try by bringing the budgie to another room, since he's next to the lovebirds cage. Thank you for your time!
My budgie is 2 days since we got it I usually keep the door open as it’s already hand tamed and it’s less stressed than I expected plus it’s doesn’t wanna jump out so that’s a good thing It seems to like me it lets me pet it I read in front of the cage out loud sometimes the bird is pretty young the ppl who I bought the bird from said it was 9 weeks old
You mentioned that most people chase their budgies to go in the cage I wouldn't say don't let them out I would probably say that you should let them go back in by their selves it gets more trust that way.
I have my bedroom on the attic, and my budgies are there with me. I have a play tree close to my bed, they almost always sit there next to me, sometimes they fly onto my bed and sit there with me. But they just dont want to get into my finger
Nope, my budgie isn't into treats...would. go near millet....he isn't fully tamed but I know he trusts me.....when I let him out he flies straight to me
I got a budgie July 2018 and she is very comfortable around me and my sister, we got another budgie around Nov 2019 and he is still scared around us, he usually just follows around the other bird
I thought my budgie wasn't tamed but He already does everything he gets on our hands gets in and out from it's cage and his favorite place is ontop of my monitor😀
ive had my parakeet for about 6 months now and whenever i put my finger by it is will make a clucking sound and start pecking at it is there anything i can do to change that. And when i put any object by my bird it will get scared and fly away.
See my conure is perfect always wants to be around me almost always on my shoulder but when he spends less than a minute in the mirror he goes really weird with me for 1 to 3 hours fly's around unable to talk to him and won't listen, just got a new buddy for him which is a ringneck and my conure has got even better listing to everything but still goes weird In front of a mirror so it's just the mirrors, good vid with everything else just don't think mirrors would be a good idea
I just got my first parakeet on my birthday 2 days ago and I went to change the millet thing I had in there he is very very young and he didn’t move he even let my mom pet him so I am going to try and leave my hand in the room and feed it and all but he is definitely used to his home because he is preening himself eating walking around playing ect I love your videos! I forgot to mention that I have noticed his wings is clips (my parakeets name is buddy) so he can’t fly and I am sad because it’s like they took his one thing away you know?…
Hey can you pls reply me where did you buy this cage usually my budgies cage is in balcony and I am afraid to take out of the cage so I loved your cage is this available on online apps
On the very first day I was able to pet one of the birds. It won’t eat from hand tho. Yes I did not chase them around I just moved my finger slowly towards it and he let me touch him. My other parakeet however I’m not too sure I haven’t tried touching him yet.

Some other things I want to mention either because I don't know what it means or if it might help are that Flapjack would bite at his hammock (that's what I call it might be called something else) made of seagrass. Flapjack used to bite through them so much I had to keep getting more but then they stopped for a while and started again recently.
(Flapjack also lives in my room with me)
Flapjack sometimes will stand on their perch and flap their wings a lot.
That means the bird trusts you and is comfortable with your presence.
It trusts you!
That does not mean he trust you, but he is comfortable with your presence
I'm glad I'm not the only one who calls my birds birbs. 😂
@@XShrimp_SoupX yes. birb is a birb and will be a birb.
My bird went right to me and had a decent amount of trust with me in the first few minutes of having him. Even let me pick him up. ❤ U Cooper
Yesss another upload!!
@@myreechee8050 a flight cage is the best
@@myreechee8050A square cage big enough to fly around. Its best to get more than one parakeet or else they will get very lonely possibley depressed
My canaries follow hand motion signs along with talked requests by me, which I use with them daily when communicating with them.
perfect timing
Right when I saw this video I clicked it and its actually very useful props to this guy subscribe to him
Thanks so much, we just got a bird and all of your advices helped a lot
This helps a lot thanks 😊
Im taming 5 birds at the same time and it works really well actually… my birds learn from each other and I think that it’s very easy that way
It might just depend on the birds
Exactly! I have more than one bird in one cage, when I offer them food from my hands, they get nervous, until one of them start eating from my hands and everyone suddenly do the same, they learn from eachother.
@@shiraounehow big is your cage?
Do you have any advice on how to do this? I adopted a bonded family of 7 and every source says to separate them, but I don't want to do that and stress them out
Budgie's 💓 is love life 💙💙💙💯
I had to take in 5 budgies from the nest since they were hurt and harmed by their older siblings and were on the ground lying. But I can confidently say I was able to tame them :).
We just love you and your flock
You can absouletly tame multiple budgies at once. It makes it significantly easier, observational learning.
I'm happy to read this. As I have 4 budgies 😊
Oh ok that’s good bc I can’t separate mine
@@TrainingTracks alright man btw do you have discord so I can ask about the parrot
@@x-cord_8878 no.. Im too young..
Im like 10
Separating your birds ONLY while taming is a smart move, that's how they won't distract each other and you'll get results much faster.
Just don't forget to put them back together after each session of taming.
I used to have a cute bird he was named Blue. He was very smart but sadly he died from food poisoning. And i got a new bird named cupcake, and thanks for posting this! I really need to train him! RIP Blue. You will be missed.
So sorry to hear that 😔
Thank you so much for making this my birds are now stepping up on my hand and eating from my palm sometimes they will come out of their cage if they wish but I do not force them
Thank you so much I just got a bird and this will help so much :D

I just have no idea how to take my male bird into another room without stressing her out
0:10 skippy looks so funny without pants 😂
I have 7 untamed budgies. Out of them 3 likes to hangout out of the cage. I kept a perch at the opening and they started to come out. I have never forced them to go back to their cage. They just come out and go in for food 😄
When I went to my pet store I saw (my now owned) budgie, it's white with a little grey on its belly and wings, when I said I would take it when I got home it was terrified, but it would hop on my finger, It also sits on my shoulder! It has not ate anything besides a little millet, but I'm hoping it will warm up to me soon!
Thx for the video I’m sure it will help a lot of people💖💕

Finally another upload
Yea
It's 1st day I let my budgies fly in my room and 1 already came to my hand and set ❤❤
My budgie is 2 days since we got it I usually keep the door open as it’s already hand tamed and it’s less stressed than I expected plus it’s doesn’t wanna jump out so that’s a good thing
It seems to like me it lets me pet it I read in front of the cage out loud sometimes the bird is pretty young the ppl who I bought the bird from said it was 9 weeks old
Hey just a question, What's a recommended cage size?
For 2 it should be 3 to 4 feet and double it if there are more
Thanks!
I recently got 3 female budgies and there so cool
thanks to you, today my baby stood on my finger. we were trying from yesterday.
You mentioned that most people chase their budgies to go in the cage I wouldn't say don't let them out I would probably say that you should let them go back in by their selves it gets more trust that way.
Hey! I got 2 birds for my daughter, they’re in the same cage what should I do?
My budgie just started stepping up on my finger and I am so happy
Low key sounds like Ernie from Sesame Street in the beginning. Very good video as well
But my 2 parakeets coco and melon are untamed and i have no room to take em to so can i just cover their cage so i can fo one ?
I have my bedroom on the attic, and my budgies are there with me. I have a play tree close to my bed, they almost always sit there next to me, sometimes they fly onto my bed and sit there with me. But they just dont want to get into my finger

So when did Kermit start doing bird beginner videos???

ive had my parakeet for about 6 months now and whenever i put my finger by it is will make a clucking sound and start pecking at it is there anything i can do to change that. And when i put any object by my bird it will get scared and fly away.
awsome starting today with my love bird ivy
See my conure is perfect always wants to be around me almost always on my shoulder but when he spends less than a minute in the mirror he goes really weird with me for 1 to 3 hours fly's around unable to talk to him and won't listen, just got a new buddy for him which is a ringneck and my conure has got even better listing to everything but still goes weird In front of a mirror so it's just the mirrors, good vid with everything else just don't think mirrors would be a good idea
I have gotten a new pey ring neck its really skittish and she is now getting more happy

Idk why my bird is s scared of me wenn its out side but in side they dont did i make a mistake?
