“Imagine someone chasing you around your room, forcing you to have a bath, touching your feet and head, and so on..” These are all things my mom had done 😆 (whenever I was really young, of course)
Feeding out of your hand + calmly talking to them feels like the single best taming technique 👌👌 Also, preferably get them very young (max 5 weeks old), and let them sleep / warm up in your hands while they're still used to being in a nest. This is by far the most effective and long lasting method to gain their trust 👌
I am trying. My male budgie is showing some sort of friendly attitude so I can pet it in hand but the female keeps biting with her sharp beak. It's very hard to tame the female 😔
Just thought I would mention this, you only need to provide your budgie with a nesting box if you want her to make babies, otherwise there's no need for a nesting box. You might know this already, but just in case you do not I thought I should let you know. I'm not trying to be bossy or mean or anything like that. If you're not ready for your bird to make babies you should not provide her with a nesting box, even if she's laying eggs. Nesting boxes will most likely make your bird go into brooding mode. Laying eggs is really tough on a bird's body, so doing all we can to avoid egg laying is the best course of action. Egg laying can be avoided by not providing a nesting box and giving your bird 12 hours of dark and 12 hours of light. If they have too much light their bodies think it's Spring time and hence time to mate. Anyways, I hope this was helpful.
My bird lose his trust with humans😢 My uncle used to grab him on his cage so he became aggressive. So sad, but I love him so I will not give up until I can pet him!
Try keeping the budgie inside of the cage, and SLOWLY moving your hand around the cage for 10 minutes a day. When the bird doesn't run from your hand and doesn't mind coming closer, you can start putting your hand inside the cage. Hold a treat in your hand so the budgie associates your hand with good things. Only then can you start petting your budgie
I love how you gently point out the things to do with the really relaxing music. I also love hearing the birds happily chirping away in the background. Lovely video
I bought a budgie bird, my bird is traumatized after the shop staff grab him like that😢, but I'm not giving up, i been searching this video for long time, thank you for the tips!❤
Very calm video of budgies, just what I was looking for. My budgie of 12 years passed away a while ago and I can’t just straight up replace him, he was a special fella that I spent many hours on socializing with. Even if one tames a budgie early, learning and communicating with the bird in new ways never stop. :)
I had a budgie 4 years ago(I still have heaps now) She was mine though and she flew away and she was tamed. I’ve never tamed a budgie well since. I understand your pain, sorry for your loss.
Just remember they are so special that is why we only have them for a limited time of life. Im sure you gave them the best life you could, and they passed absolutley happy and loved which is all we could hope for. I hope you try again and home another fortunate soul that is lucky enough to have you for a parent, so they can see love.
You cannot just replace these little intelligent creatures with "another bird"; they become your friend and are unique, so its a grieving process before getting another one.
My oldest budgie trusts, but he does not prefer to be touched. I respect his boundaries. He is amazing! He can friend any animal, and human. So brave, he's truly one of a kind. Took in a rescue, and he's trying to get that bird to trust me, as well as I. Rescued, he was never let out of a cage, old lady, not her fault but overgrown beak, poor diet. Tweety is now, healthy, thriving, and is flying again, but because his wings never developed properly, from being stuck in a cage, he still struggles. He's learning how to fly. I don't breed, I rescue. ❤️
They're all different little personalities; we've had 3 Budgies, the first one I just had to snap my finger or call his name and he came sitting on my finger, or on the shoulder or head, and he loved bathing and showering. He ate anything, he was like a goat; Boef Bourginion? Yoghurt? Eggs? Yes! The second one was a gentle soul, always wanting to cuddle up to your cheek and so tame. The one we have now is shy, a bit like mentally handicapped I believe. Only eats seeds and refuses to sit on my finger or anywhere on me, is very afraid. But he deserves his life and someone who cares, even if he's different. We have raised them the same way, they fly free indoors 90% of the day and have almost constant company. Its important to let them fly free outside the cage and have company most of their time. Its more important for them to have constant human companionship than being alone and maybe be forced to live with another Budgie thats not compatible. They see you as their companion, your family as their flock. When you are all assembled they are the most happy.
You have no clue how helpful this is… I got a 2 budgies a few days ago, and it’s my first time owning them. They are really nice, but skittish, but are getting better. Thank you so much ❤

This is so fascinating to see.. I had a budgie as a kid, or rather my parent did and I remember seeing it shake in the corner of the room. I remember spending my entire summer, developing this exact method to make him comfortable with me. I was very young, but these memories are very strong. Summer vacation and its one of the best. Seeing it slowly gain trust, learning it's body language, watching him and considering his thoughts... Ending up with me and him chilling and cuddling together. What a journey.. I remember it influenced my parent to treat it more like a "Person", we got him a friend and they ended up mating so we got them a nesting box too. I remember my parent asking me if we should "Not get him a friend" because "He would become less tame" and all I thought was just how lonely it would be to be alone, and that less tame probably just meant he had another friend. I remember his mate died later and he got very lonely, but my grandma had another budgie who's mate died, so we put them together and these lonely boys bonded and started top mate to (Which also learned kid me that homosexuality and bisexuality was very natural before getting into the adult world of politics) Shocked I can still completely remember the steps. And now, seeing this video 20 years later is fucking wild xD What a trip down memory lane.
Yes, folks in those days often did not consider that animals had feelings. My dad used to complain that I was "too sensitive." We had a dairy farm with lots of cats. He didn't like it when I would be carrying them around but boy when he'd find the spot where a cat had hidden her babies he'd gently pick them up in his big, weathered hands and show them to us with a big grin on his face! Sixty years later I still have cats running my life!

Even though I don't have budgies, this video somehow made me cry of joy. I used to have budgies when I was younger, but didn`t have any idea how to tame them back then. But after this video I realised that mistakes were made... :/
A lot of this also applies to cockatiels. I have an older female lutino I got from my neighbor just over a month ago. I've made a lot of mistakes. Now I know what to stop doing, what to keep doing, what not to do and what else to do. I'm going to keep insisting to my dad that if Nibbles wants to come out she will, and if she doesn't she won't. I won't force her. I will be quieter around her, including keeping the volume down on my tv and laptop. I will stop putting my hand so close to her when she's in her cage. I will continue to back off as I have been recently. I will continue to give her food and treats. Hopefully, I can regain her trust.
I just adopted two budgies today! They’ll need time to adjust of course, and I will spend lots of time taming them and giving them attention. I was happy to hear my birds grinding their beaks today after I let them into their cage!
I think it means there comfortable where they are right now and are trying to get ready or getting ready to sleep and is consent (i think like happy or full)
This is the best video ever My budgue always kept running whenever i came close But after 17 days after i watched this video Today it finally sat on my finger and even devoured the peice of banana i gave him straight from my hand ❤❤❤ Thank you so much 😊
This is my first time having a. Budgie and I tought that the mistakes were normal things to do so when my dad did it I tought it was normal. We both learned our lesson and he is much better now
I simply just talk to my budgie and she just gives me this look as if she is interested or understands what I am saying 😂🤭 And then she just sits on my shoulder and stays there for hours -w-
Thank you for these tips😊 Hopefully my budgies will like me and trust soon :) Also whats recommended to make your house safe for budgies when you let them out?
I usually let mine in 2 rooms, I mean I open the door and they go from one to another. I close doors, windows but I also have wire over the windows plus curtains 😆 I put playgrounds and that's how they spend time together. They're out all the time, I don't even close the cage 🤣
3:58 Ohhh my budgie always nods it's head like that and me be like: eXcUsE mE I JuST fEaD u aNd U r hungry* now I feel happy bc I thought my birds didn't like me bc they kinda lost my trust..tysm for making the this video!
Wow! My bird is happy according to what you say. 😁 She seem inpatient when i give her food and rush towards it. But she only eats those little seeds that i see you feed your budgies with. Or that stick with seeds and honey on it. I always talk to her and she slowly closes one eye, its kind of funny and cute. Good lessons, your budgies look very pleased with their environment. ☺
I just do one mistake but I can't stop doing it, idk what to do. I have a dog, and I have to move the cage from my livingroom to my room so my budgie isn't in danger while I try to gain his trust.
I've had my budgie for about a year now. She trusts me enough to hop on my finger or shoulder late at night when she's tired, or onto her food bowl whenever she's hungry, but otherwise won't approach us at all. We let her roam about the house freely after the first few weeks, taking care to always lock doors and never opening windows by leaving her cage door open. Eventually, she flew out on her own one day and has found several little spots she prefers. She barely bites, more like a warning, if you hold her in your hand, as she'll want to climb it instead. She will hop on my hand if I put it in there while she's in her cage though. Is my budgie just too independent to be cuddler with me? Edit: She also refuses to eat anything but seeds or millet. I've tried feeding her every kind of fruit or vegetable, slicing them up into tiny bites, eating them in front of her. Etc. She picked at a green grape *once* and never again.
Budgies are tiny birds and some budgies will feel threatened to actually cuddle, your bird does seem like an independent bird! Otherwise that's completely normal 😁
@@johsmith2481 my budgies are the same! I’ve had 4 of them for about a month now, and they were from a friend so we got them when they were very little and they were fine with us hand feeding them. Now that they eat seeds and can fly, we let them out everyday but unless they want food from us they stay so far away and won’t let us touch them :(( also won’t eat any fruit we give them, but I’ve heard people say they need more than just seeds so hopefully they start eating other things soon
slice an apple very thin or give her a banana or strawberry. my budgies also have very picky tastes, so far they eat these only other than regular foods. and try rub her cheek i heard that is the only place human can freely touch. touching other spots might signals mating gesture.
Try putting some lettuce in the morning when she wakes up and is most hungry and take her seed out for a couple of hours, if she doesn't touch the lettus after a couple of hours put her seed back, do this everyday until she starts to eat the lettuce, then continue and give her lettuce, vegetables or fruit only in the morning and seed in the afternoon, budgies should eat less seed than fresh food 🌹🐦
My rescue budgie is still so afraid, she only dared take a step to a closer branch to get to the millet I was holding today, and she flew into my room nearly a month ago. We're far away from perches and fingers, but hopefully we'll get there. Only doing what she's comfortable with.
I found one today on the street after hard rain. Was able to catch the white little bird before a cat got to it. He bit me once, but after i took it out of the box i got from someone who watched me chase a bird down the street it was crawling up my arm and face. If no one comes foreward to claim the little bird, then i will call him ''Chad''. Nice video!
This is such a cool video. Me and my family have recently just gotten a new budgie. He’s called Pipin and is about 11 weeks old atm and gaining his trust is obviously still ongoing. I think he’s bonded more with me then anyone else, mainly because I’m always here with him/her. He is getting so much better with our hands already he now actually walks on our hands and sometimes jumps on them. It’s so cute. He has his favourite places to fly to in every room, he also has a weird obsession with my phone 😂. If anyone has anymore tips to help even more it’s be much appreciated 😁 P.S we still don’t know 100% what the gender is, but I’m leaning more towards a he because his seer has a blue tinge around the top of it
I heard they like mirrors, so when the phone is off it has a reflection, but I've also heard it can cause hormonal situations whether it's true or not I'm not sure about,we recently got our 1st parakeet lol
My birds are getting very used to standing on a stick but they aren't getting used to my hand, but luckily this video helped me. It teached me that I should keep my hand in the cage far at first and after q day after day we have to keep it closer, thank you for your help

@@beomaya and btw i lost your comment in another vid but it normal that ur birds beak turn green when it eats spinach, my birds LOVE nvm ADORE rocca and when they eat it there beaks turn green soo dats ok
not only very educational but also extremely adorable to watch ^^
Hopefully, I can regain her trust.
wowzers!! those are some interesting birds you go there!! i wish to learn more about these beautiful creatures.
You posted this when i was ar school what a coicidence 🤣
So informative:)
Me too...
The second bird on the first step is what my bird looks EXACTLY like
I just adopted two budgies today! They’ll need time to adjust of course, and I will spend lots of time taming them and giving them attention. I was happy to hear my birds grinding their beaks today after I let them into their cage!
63 years ago lol
Yay! That's great!
This seriously is the most helpful video I could find. Thank you.
One of my little birdies has started to grind his beak more often
Don't worry mine does so too!
I think it means there comfortable where they are right now and are trying to get ready or getting ready to sleep and is consent (i think like happy or full)
Awww your parrots are so cute❤❤❤😊
Thank you so much! I just turned 13 on the 14th. I got my budgie, Haven that day. He is still kinda anxious though.
This is the best video ever
My budgue always kept running whenever i came close
But after 17 days after i watched this video
Today it finally sat on my finger and even devoured the peice of banana i gave him straight from my hand ❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😊
The blue one is so naughty he eats food all time
Thank u! This was really helpful, Lots of other ones just said give them food and that was it, I much prefer this one!
Me seeing thumbnail: Okay?
After seeing thumbnail: **dies out of cuteness**
One of my budgies Ozzy likes when you touch his tail feathers when they poke through the cage it’s really cute(he’s only 6 months haha)
This is my first time having a. Budgie and I tought that the mistakes were normal things to do so when my dad did it I tought it was normal. We both learned our lesson and he is much better now
This happened with me too
one of my problems is my parents, i get nervous when i train my budgies around them especially my dad bc he is strict so i dont really like him.💀
same
I simply just talk to my budgie and she just gives me this look as if she is interested or understands what I am saying 😂🤭 And then she just sits on my shoulder and stays there for hours -w-
Wow😍
Lol the blue bird stole the treat it was so cute
Thank you for these tips😊 Hopefully my budgies will like me and trust soon :) Also whats recommended to make your house safe for budgies when you let them out?
I usually let mine in 2 rooms, I mean I open the door and they go from one to another. I close doors, windows but I also have wire over the windows plus curtains 😆 I put playgrounds and that's how they spend time together. They're out all the time, I don't even close the cage 🤣
@@dennythebudgie oh okay thank so much😄
Great instructional video! (& that little white tea-cuo hung in their cage was the cutest!)
My birds now trust me yay!😁
Im from indonesia, your videos inspire me to step better for caring with love our pets.. Thank u
Millet seeds! Your bird sounds very cute.
I just do one mistake but I can't stop doing it, idk what to do. I have a dog, and I have to move the cage from my livingroom to my room so my budgie isn't in danger while I try to gain his trust.
@@Zarmdthecoolest I don't think so, in my room there isn't natural light. But now I can't do nothing, he passed away yesterday :(
@@seiyamoonshot7896 i hope u and ur family are ok, your bird is in a better place dont worry 🐦♥️

Thankyou, great tips
I dont even have a budgie and I’m just watching this lol
Thank you for this awesome video. You are very inspirational. All the love to you and your lovely birbs.
@@DubstepCity7 Aw. Well, that's disheartening to hear, but I'm glad it's not because she doesn't trust us or isn't happy. Thanks for the feedback.
I really liked this video. I think its helpful 😊✨

If anyone has anymore tips to help even more it’s be much appreciated 😁
P.S we still don’t know 100% what the gender is, but I’m leaning more towards a he because his seer has a blue tinge around the top of it
I heard they like mirrors, so when the phone is off it has a reflection, but I've also heard it can cause hormonal situations whether it's true or not I'm not sure about,we recently got our 1st parakeet lol
Blue is saying it's a male, pink is saying it's a female. But most babys have that pink til I believe juv
Thank you for some tips. My bird is very happy with me now. : )
