I had 2 budgies, the first one was fine with trimming nails and wing feathers (she even sang and chattered during the clipping) but the other one never got used to it. He wasn't very social with people (he'd been in a home where they neglected him) but he had the other bird for company and seemed to be just fine provided I didn't try to hold him.
I'm definitely being hated for grabbing.... One of my budgies has a heart disease and needs medication twice a day. And he is VERY vocal about what he thinks about this. Though my vet reasurred me, that its not that he is more stressed than other birds but simple extremely vocal and loud about it.
This is what is happening to me I feel for bad for it I only got them a week ago and it was poorly when j got it so from the 2nd day in I have had grab it to give it antibiotics twice a day and it bites me and is very vocal about hating it I'm hoping once it's better we can create a bond x
@@firefox8033 While I can't predict what will happen I can tell you some things from my experience. Antibiotics sounds like your bird will be better soon, so plenty of time to form a bond. Budgies are smart so there is a good chance yours will be able to tell when you give it medicine and when you act normal. Just keep a fixed routine for when you give the medication. My sick bird has been diagnosed a bit more than 3 month ago and heart disease is chronic. @@firefox8033 haha yeah they know the weak spots. One of my female budgies once nibbled the inside of my elbow. She didn't even bite but was very uncomfortable. A bit of biting when getting medicine is completely normal. Worry if your bird doesn't give you some trouble. That would be a sign of getting worse / weaker / declining health. I'd also say most budgies don't really bite in a serious way. I have 6 and while all do some obligatory warning nibbles when they need medicine, only one of them bites for real. Like he gave me marks through a nitrile glove and even the vet says he is quite a handful.

Got 2 budgies for free with a cage that was very tiny, barely suitable for 1 bird let alone 2, they were very noisy and sounded agitated (understandably) so the first thing I did was buying a very big cage and they seem much happier and they can actually fly a little bit in the cage unlike the other one where they had to retort to grabbing the bars of the cage to move

@@katjajacimovic2415 i have a shower perch in the shower! My bird loved it right away but sometimes it takes a bit for birds to not be scared of it. If you try this, don't rush it 😁
This is a good video and I agree with most of it but please everyone do your own research! Because some birds (like my girlfriends and many others) like to be held like an avocado and it doesn't bother them, obviously other birds are different, so just do what you can for your bird and please do a lot of research and talk to your local BIRD store (not pet smart if you can help it) and see what they recommended, but remember a bird isn't a dog or cat that understands humans from the second it's born, they need you to realize you are safe and a person that they can trust, I could go way deeper but that's the basics I've learned from being with my girlfriend while she got her cockatiel and eclectus, so thank you for reading my ted talk:)
I am a gamer at heart, 90% of the time my birds just sit on my hands completely unbothered by my fingers moving on the controller. They also learned to open their cage on their own... But they never bother me when i sleep. So i try my best to do the same.
Just like humans pet birds Budgies Parrots etc all have their own personality and just like us they need respect and love. We have had Budgies down the years, once properly trained and gained your trust and love there is no stopping them, beautiful little birds and great talkers too.
I think the phone thing is jealousy. When I was younger my cockatoo would always get jealous when I answered the phone. My current parrot just likes interacting with the touch screen.
My budgie YELLS whenever we go into the bathroom and run the tap/shower/etc. We thought maybe he wanted to bathe in the running water he heard so we brought him near a (slow! he's a small boy!) running tap, but nope, he's not interested in that. He just screams his flock call. Maybe he thinks we're in danger and drowning? Who knows! It's not a separation thing, because he's almost always hanging out with someone at the time, and if someone leaves the room to do anything else he's fine with it lol.
When I get up during the night and need a little light, I just turn my adjustable lamp to where it's dim for my Bert and Ernie.(And then turning it on. Still surprises them abit, but they don't freak out). And if I need more light I slowly adjust it where it's a little brighter. So my parakeets don't freak out no more :^) This video was helpful btw!
I have three budgies that have complete reign of my bedroom, it's hard work but seeing them slowly get used to me and let me get closer is so worth it XD
I keep the door open for my two birds and they will not come out of cage. I've had parakeets as a child and they were always out of the cage except for bedtime. I bought Rosie first and after a year of her not wanting to leave her cage I bought Mary because I couldn't stand her not having a playmate. I thought Mary might help her to want to get out of cage but that didn't happen. They both love jazz and swamp pop and sing insanely loud on Sundays when the big band music is on radio. They are happy introverts.
I dont agree with the first one as far as medium to large birds go. You do have to bath your birds to prevent yeast build up on their skin which can lead to plucking. But you have a mister bath or a shower with your bird. Its more critcal to birds like african greys and macaws as an example. If you were just referring to small birds i would recommend editing the video title to what small birds hate. Because most small birds are amazing at bathing themselves. Oh and my birds adore phone calls they love to talk with you and get excited you just might not like hearing them lol. My amazon gets extra loud and over 100db good luck hearing anyone lol.
My parakeet Sunny was bought at Sears as a baby. We got used to each other within about a year. He lived to be 12. He had full run of his cage. I'd close it at night but open it all day. He'd go in and out as he pleased. Learned tricks and talked up a storm. I loved him and vice versa. I miss him 40 years later. He used to sit on my shoulder and give me kisses😂❤
essentially the one about not toucching them when they don't want to be... I had to brace myself. it's true, it's tooooooooo cute. though I have been resisting the urge a bit recently and my cockatiels seem to be appreciating that.
My amazon deffiantly lets you know when he wants pets try a bite from them they break skin and take out chunks since they are medium to large parrots lol
@@elorine1535 I understand why you are feeling timid. Just remember that birds are REALLY smart animals especially in regards to emotional intelligence. If they sense fear, it is interpreted as a danger to their wellbeing. A fearful animal is more like to want to attack, or accidentally attack it. Birds especially have fun when you have fun, so dance, play, and give your bird my best!
@@Ray-Of-Sunshine what are you talking about im not timid of my amazon he just lets yah know what he wants. He hates men due to a horrible first owner. Im used to big and medium birds ive raised my grey since a baby. I have no fear of her either since i know her body language. She is super spoilt and has a massive cage with a living room play center.
My birds hate it when I take a phone call. Sometimes these phone calls have been with "important" people, such as an ambassador and other diplomats. I have had to tell them "sorry about the ruckus, it's just my birds" :D
My budgies are outside near the balcony of my house and we cannot keep it inside as we have no space sometimes a big bird comes to eat them now I'm being cautious and covering them at night until i wake up but the thing is i cannot let it roam freely what if it gets lost or get hurt and it will 💩 to so i have problems can u tell me any other ways
im getting some parrots soon, they're getting a whole room instead of a cage for a living space, as well as keeping their travel cages in there if they want to go in them
That's what I did, they have a blast in their own room. Sometimes they don't wanna sleep in their cage but will sleep on top. I have 5 huge cages and 24 Parakeets all trained, they are truly amazing.
I try to avoid clipping my white winged parakeet's wings. But she screams like a banshee when she flies. Eventually she drives me nuts and I get them clipped. Then she sits in her cage and sulks for weeks. Finally, she comes out and motions for me to pick her up and points to where she wants to go. I become a bird Uber. Serves me right.
That's sad. She's obviously so excited when she can fly and it sounds like she gets depressed rather than sulking when they're clipped. Perhaps a bird isn't the best pet suited for you if the noise she makes when happy is so annoying to you that you would rather deprive her of her joy rather than tolerate it.
@@vickymarinou6271 She's been able to fly again for 10 months. She calmed down and we're doing fine. I actually bought her because I had a similar species (Grey Cheek) years ago that was very sweet. She was also half off. No one wanted her. She has kind of a sour personality. It took months to get her accustomed to me. She likes to stand next to the clocks. The ticking I guess.
my budgie hates getting out of its cage, I have owned it for three years now and is very hand tame. Every time i take it out, it will just try to rush back in.
I agree with @@cowuwu1 s comment, also try not to force the bird into anything, just try leaving the cage open for a while and see if it wants to come out itself, also another quick tip is for any birds that aren't for breeding I'd highly recommend against mirrors because that can make them get sexually active, especially females are bad about laying eggs and that can cause issues for them mentally and physically but can also cause them to be very territorial, also any small enclosed spaces like boxes or nest type things, but happy bird owning:)
@Linen Rosette so the mirror thing could be your issue, they can get really obsessed with mirrors and start trying to mate with it and get confused, so a fake bird or just being around them yourself is your best bet, also trying to train step up with a perch has worked very well for me and my gf, so I whould recommended ditching the mirror and start trying to train step up with a small perch that fits in the cage easy so if they get out they know the perch is safe until you can train to pick it up by hand, and windows can be hard to train away from but they will learn, just remember if anything bad happens to have at least corn starch nearby if god forbid bleeding happened, but other than that I'd just remove the mirror and try to be near the cage as much as possible, getting a bird to trust you is like adopting a toddler, you have to show them that you're trustworthy for them to start trusting you, also their physical well being is more important then trust, if you have to pick them up to possibly save their live then oviously do it, just not as a fun thing of course, but I hope that helps and if you have any other questions I'm happy to help with the knowledge I have:) Edit: when I said pick up the first time I mean stepping up onto fingers and the second time as like if you have to grab them like a lemon
😂 I've had my little Georgie 3 weeks, he now comes in and out of his cage every day in the mornings untill he's ready to go back in for his tasty treat ( millet) but today I had to go out so I couldn't let him out this morning! As soon as I came home I went to let him out and he didn't want to know 😂 he just turned his back on me, so I guess he was annoyed at me for changing his routine ( bless him ) I love my bird.

Unfortunately I have a conure who regularly dives into people's food, particularly feet in there walking over it getting gross. She's got to be made to bath the food off haha
This is off topic but its so cool how animals/pets can like tell time and routine. Also off topic- i have a guinea pig who knows exactly when its time for him to eat
We got a young lorikeet about 2 weeks ago, and it doesn't want to leave it's cage. It's fine with us petting it (head of course) and holding food, but will not 'step up' or leave it's cage at all. Will this take a little more time? Is there anything we can do to encourage it to come out and be happy?
Hi! I have a question. I have two budgies. A female albino and sapphire “male” the reason i put “male” is because im not fully sure. My vet stated that they were very young. So they don’t have a solid cere color. The male has a tint of green on its cere. Im not sure if thats a sickness or a dye from a toy?. Could he be aging so its changing color? Im extremely concerned.
Thank you so much for your tips !!! I always wondered why my birds making a lot of noise when I’m talking on the phone ☎️ 😂😂😂I didn’t know that, but always covering them a night time by 6:30 and take away the blank At 6:30 am love my birds 🦢 ♥️♥️♥️
Real story: so my classmates mother had 2 budgies one blue and one yellow and they gave them to us cuz they already had a cat so a cat could eat them if we didnt accept their gift then she would let go of them and fly outside and then she would never come back thats why we accepted their gift so we cutted their wings and they started crying and the yellow one almost bit my finger 😮 and the blue one is way more kind then the other cuz my classmate said he would never even bite you he never even bit us and i tried to hold the yellow one and he flew away she can only fly a little their names are Samira and Yassine Samira is the blue one and Yassine is the yellow one i have one question Which parakeet did you like the best?
Some of these really depend on the bird. Although true to some degree. It's whatever personality your Budgie will have. Mines actually likes being grabbed. And be messed around with. Bird personality can be weird sometimes
The wing clipping thing is definitely true! In my opinion, unless it's necessary, it's cruel to clip a bird's wings and can be detrimental in some cases to that bird's health. It can make them depressed
i used to have a budgie that i just didn't bought, it came to my house one day and i kept it, and i like to think he had a lot of trust in me, because he flew out many times and kept coming back to me, once there was a strong wind and it took him away, he ended in a branch and i called him to come with me and he did, he then hid behind my hair
Clip your birds feather so they can fly downward to the floor, but can't gain altitude. They can get all the exercise they need. If you want to lose your birds and have them die outside, leave them feathered and watch them go out the door!
I don't have many options as far as petting mine. He does NOT like a head scratchin' and of course, I don't want to pet him on the back. I settle for a chest stroke (he still backs off a bit), and a face nuzzle. He doesn't mind a good eskimo nose rubbing. Other than that, he is very loving and crawls all over me. He loves standing on my bald head too.
Is it ok if i just give my budgie a little plate of water and if he wants he can but he doesn't have to? (Just for fun cause my dad's bird loved these)

so have choose to clip your budgie's wings, because you have forced the birds into a non bird friendly environment.
Well petstore is an exception
Thanks for your wisdom✨
Thank you so much your the best I always go to you for information
I had 2 budgies, the first one was fine with trimming nails and wing feathers (she even sang and chattered during the clipping) but the other one never got used to it. He wasn't very social with people (he'd been in a home where they neglected him) but he had the other bird for company and seemed to be just fine provided I didn't try to hold him.
I feel so bad for all the birds that got wing clipped
I just thought, that my bird likes to talk to the phone, too xD
While he is very angry whenever I give him his medicine he is not scared of my in general and as tame as he was before.
@@PiedraDeIjada thankyou yes when I go upto them as normal it is abit scared now but only had the a week but they still come to my hand when I have food for them and when it comes to medicine time it hides at the bottom of the cage where I can't grab it as good and then bits the skin inbetween my fingers haha x
@@PiedraDeIjada awe bless very true this one she bites down for me to let her go but then is fine once I put her back down she makes red marks and a few beak marks but nothing bad. They are both not used to me yet my problem is I don't know when to start letting then fly around the room with them not used to us they panic alot x
First one does not apply to me. My budgies dunk themselves in their water dish 🤣
My conure does the same
Your budgies are absolutely adorable 😍
I know all of this! I'm glad that I'm being a proper bird owner and that I'm not missing anything that would make my birds unhappy.
Lovely tweety budgies
Gorgeous budgies
Thank you for your videos I am going to get a budgie next week. Your videos helped me a lot to know about the budgies. ♥️♥🐦🐦
Good luck with your new budgie!
So my birds favorite thing to do is take a shower with me. He absolutely loves it. He also loves phone calls because he wants to also talk on the phone. He will always try and answer the phone whenever we pick it up after it rings 😂 my bird is just built different
How do you bring him in the bath with you? Do you set up a little perch for him in your bath, or do you have him on your shoulder or something? Just asking for tips :)
@@katjajacimovic2415 i have a shower perch in the shower! My bird loved it right away but sometimes it takes a bit for birds to not be scared of it. If you try this, don't rush it 😁
@@nekomoon21 thank you so much!!!
Thanks for all of this information I tamed my budgies because of you
Thanks 😊
Thanks for this I just brought my first budgie and i needed some help and now I got it
Good luck!
@@Bird-Nuggets thanks
@@lewangoalski1085 Is your budgie ok
@@etsmp_gh yep
PA: It's a "Contact call" He just want to be sure you aren't lost and stay in contact!
2:52 its because of the radio waves it emmits. it messes with a birds natural compass and which direction they are looking in
When I get up during the night and need a little light, I just turn my adjustable lamp to where it's dim for my Bert and Ernie.(And then turning it on. Still surprises them abit, but they don't freak out). And if I need more light I slowly adjust it where it's a little brighter. So my parakeets don't freak out no more :^)
This video was helpful btw!
My bird hates when I use a different color of nail polish
Budgies are so much more than we humans think🥺💝
Am i right
Me and my gf are going to get one

Yes they are extremely intelligent
I have three budgies that have complete reign of my bedroom, it's hard work but seeing them slowly get used to me and let me get closer is so worth it XD
This information is going to prep me for getting birds. A lot of them.
We started with 7. Now have 14. The whole experience good. Learning as we go on line
I love that this channel is narrated by Ernie from Sesame Street. Such a soothing voice.
I remember my dad had his phone on the floor and was on a phone call and my bird stood on his phone and it was SO CUTEEEE
Yay you post gonna get a budgie/parakeet tomorrow (my bday) and make a video on how to cut budgies nails when it doesn't fully trust you
I dont agree with the first one as far as medium to large birds go.
A lot of birds respond really well to kisses. That's about the only way I can share affection with my budgies.
Thanks for sharing this with us
My birds hate it when I take a phone call.
My budgies don't want to leave their cage. The few times I've allowed them to do so, they always get frightened and confused.
Same 😭
Thank you for educating people on these things. Birds ate not toys!!!
Thanks for this Great video! Since mu family and I is Budgie owners, This fits well! Thank you so much!
I have a budgie and she actually loves her cage and likes staying in her cage. When I take her out she usually flys back in
Same. My cockatiel just gets confused and stands in one spot waiting for me to come put him back in his cage if I let him roam around the house.
the world is so beautiful with budgies
They can enjoy showers from a spray bottle if not wanting to go to the bath.
my dog is scared of my bird but my bird tries to stand on him every time he walks by 😂
Thinkin about getting birds one day. This is great info, thanks!!
im getting some parrots soon, they're getting a whole room instead of a cage for a living space, as well as keeping their travel cages in there if they want to go in them
That's what I did, they have a blast in their own room. Sometimes they don't wanna sleep in their cage but will sleep on top.
I have 5 huge cages and 24 Parakeets all trained, they are truly amazing.
Thank god u explained me a lot thanks for informative vedio 👍
Put some toys or what not on the outside of the cage (or attached to it on the outside) to encourage it to come out
I agree with @@cowuwu1 s comment, also try not to force the bird into anything, just try leaving the cage open for a while and see if it wants to come out itself, also another quick tip is for any birds that aren't for breeding I'd highly recommend against mirrors because that can make them get sexually active, especially females are bad about laying eggs and that can cause issues for them mentally and physically but can also cause them to be very territorial, also any small enclosed spaces like boxes or nest type things, but happy bird owning:)
@Linen Rosette so the mirror thing could be your issue, they can get really obsessed with mirrors and start trying to mate with it and get confused, so a fake bird or just being around them yourself is your best bet, also trying to train step up with a perch has worked very well for me and my gf, so I whould recommended ditching the mirror and start trying to train step up with a small perch that fits in the cage easy so if they get out they know the perch is safe until you can train to pick it up by hand, and windows can be hard to train away from but they will learn, just remember if anything bad happens to have at least corn starch nearby if god forbid bleeding happened, but other than that I'd just remove the mirror and try to be near the cage as much as possible, getting a bird to trust you is like adopting a toddler, you have to show them that you're trustworthy for them to start trusting you, also their physical well being is more important then trust, if you have to pick them up to possibly save their live then oviously do it, just not as a fun thing of course, but I hope that helps and if you have any other questions I'm happy to help with the knowledge I have:)
Edit: when I said pick up the first time I mean stepping up onto fingers and the second time as like if you have to grab them like a lemon
@Linen Rosette yeah some won't but in my experience it's not a risk that's worth taking.
😂 I've had my little Georgie 3 weeks, he now comes in and out of his cage every day in the mornings untill he's ready to go back in for his tasty treat ( millet) but today I had to go out so I couldn't let him out this morning! As soon as I came home I went to let him out and he didn't want to know 😂 he just turned his back on me, so I guess he was annoyed at me for changing his routine ( bless him ) I love my bird.
my little budgies love the bath! Its in their cage and whenever I look over there flapping around and singing in the bath! Its so cuuuute
I have a small cage for my 2 budgies, I ordered a larger one online that I will arrive in about a week. Is it alright to have a small cage for a short amount of time?
As long as you are indeed planning to replace the cage to a larger one very shortly.
Unfortunately I have a conure who regularly dives into people's food, particularly feet in there walking over it getting gross. She's got to be made to bath the food off haha
U r always very informative
#6 is the one I really needed to hear thanks!
This is off topic but its so cool how animals/pets can like tell time and routine. Also off topic- i have a guinea pig who knows exactly when its time for him to eat
Can’t wait to get my budgie!!
Earlyyy love your videos ☻️
We got a young lorikeet about 2 weeks ago, and it doesn't want to leave it's cage. It's fine with us petting it (head of course) and holding food, but will not 'step up' or leave it's cage at all. Will this take a little more time? Is there anything we can do to encourage it to come out and be happy?
I like your colorful morphs 👍
I always wondered why my birds making a lot of noise when I’m talking on the phone ☎️ 😂😂😂I didn’t know that, but always covering them a night time by 6:30 and take away the blank At 6:30 am love my birds 🦢 ♥️♥️♥️
thx for informing us
Real story: so my classmates mother had 2 budgies one blue and one yellow and they gave them to us cuz they already had a cat so a cat could eat them if we didnt accept their gift then she would let go of them and fly outside and then she would never come back thats why we accepted their gift so we cutted their wings and they started crying and the yellow one almost bit my finger 😮 and the blue one is way more kind then the other cuz my classmate said he would never even bite you he never even bit us and i tried to hold the yellow one and he flew away she can only fly a little their names are Samira and Yassine Samira is the blue one and Yassine is the yellow one i have one question
Which parakeet did you like the best?
Some of these really depend on the bird. Although true to some degree. It's whatever personality your Budgie will have. Mines actually likes being grabbed. And be messed around with. Bird personality can be weird sometimes
The wing clipping thing is definitely true!
In my opinion, unless it's necessary, it's cruel to clip a bird's wings and can be detrimental in some cases to that bird's health. It can make them depressed
Thank you so much for this info! I used to talk with my therapist in my phone while my bird was there and he wouldn't stop yelling
Great tips 👏👏

i used to have a budgie that i just didn't bought, it came to my house one day and i kept it, and i like to think he had a lot of trust in me, because he flew out many times and kept coming back to me, once there was a strong wind and it took him away, he ended in a branch and i called him to come with me and he did, he then hid behind my hair
Awh I've got those birds to the green and blue sky one.
in the grabbing part, when you filed their nails,,, I THOUGHT YOU WERE CUTTING THEIR FOOT- YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD I PANICKED
Thanks for the advice
i might not be a bird person but i find all this information extremely interesting thank you😊
This will help me as of i just got a budgie recently
Thanks 😊
It's common sense
But unfortunately we human now days aren't connected to ourselves so we would do very silly 😜 🤪 🙃
Awesome video
Thanks!
Clip your birds feather so they can fly downward to the floor, but can't gain altitude. They can get all the exercise they need. If you want to lose your birds and have them die outside, leave them feathered and watch them go out the door!
Idk about other people but my birds aren't clipped and don't leave my room. (They definitely could if they wanted to)
The phone thing is nonsense! My 2 BFAs keep in contact with their favourite hoomins via phone and facetime! They love it!
He loves standing on my bald head too.
how many budgies do you have?
Is it ok if i just give my budgie a little plate of water and if he wants he can but he doesn't have to? (Just for fun cause my dad's bird loved these)
I whould say absolutely! Giving them the option to a bath but not forcing it is a great idea!
Thanks to you in a good way I am starting to let my bird roam the house and get
Used to our present thanks for the info!
3:05 how do I know that my birds will not fly away?(they aren’t tamed I got them yesterday)
my budgies love when I smother them in my hands, its just the matter of trust and the type of energy you give.
Depends on their personality too
