I gave away a young male budgie to a very shy and fearful kid in my building. His mom is the "don't do it, you'll get hurt" overprotective type. The boy was 10yo and afraid of cats and bunnies.
The boy named the budgie Caesar. They're best friends now. Caesar is more tamed and trusting than any of the budgies I've had. He learned to play with human toys, do tricks like rolling over or play mini basketball, and is spending more time sitting on the boy's shoulder and head than anywhere else.
cute
You clipped your budgie.....
@@cccd212 I think you got the wrong thread
If u clip your bird u dont deserve it
@@Ownz1982 which part of my comment made you think any clipping took place?
If you're really patient and observing, you can actually see their thought process. I can tell when he's anxious or when he's gonna take off. So as I'm training, i pay close attention not to cross the threshold where he'll fly away. I test his boundaries and it seems like he tests mine. Love it when he chirps, gives me reason to whistle again. I've had my budgie for a week now. I wanna brag more but im just missing him while im at work.
i had to grab my parakeet a few days ago to take him to the vet, the guilt was awful. you can instantly tell when you've broken a birds trust :( thankfully, they're very forgiving. we absolutely do not deserve such sweet babies
Awww same idk if mine will forgive me:(
I had a male cockatiel that bit through my finger and flew out the door after. It's females eggs had hatched
This video is SO VERY IMPORTANT. Everyone should review it once a week for a month BEFORE BIRD SHOPPING. Your bird will live 10 years longer if you do. Most birds die within 5 years when purchased by people who NEVER STUDY what birds NEED
Exactly. Thank you. 🐦
My parents suddenly planned to get budgies and, so we ended up with four, one for each of us in the family. But since I have the most time at home, I have to take care of them by myself. That is why this video is a lifesaver and your entire channel, thank you Salvador Budgie!
Im trying to get a bird, and I've been doing research. When I found this channel, I sorta binged watched it. I have learned so much! Thank you!❤
@Enzo Acacio litteraly same tho

@@Bird-Nuggets I hope I can convince them, but it seems unlikely. 😔😪😭
How do you tame a parakeet whose ornery at being petted?
@@rosannechoate8005 I used to have birds to here is how I know: Get them used to your hand, the best way of doing that is hand feeding in my opinion. Do not touch the back, because that is how they mate. Stick to the head :)
When I go near my new budgies, they always fly away in their cage, so this helped me tame them a lot! Thanks!
The advice on this channel is so good!
Jesus loves you💜💙❤
It sure is I watch them every day
Sir...This is the very best budgie feeding/ taming video I have ever sen. Great Job!
You sound like Kermit 😅
@@Ber-rii lmao
Kermit with an accent.
Oh man, I cant unhear it now lol
Mate I was about to say the same thing
Thats rude tho dont say that
I had my parakeet when she was very young & waited for about a year to be sure she wouldn't lose trust in me. Now she's practically tamed lol
She steps up on my hand & on a chopstick--or as i call it-- the step-up stick. I only use the step-up stick whenever she is in a hard to reach place.
I swear I have so much knowledge from you, thank you for sharing and for being available for us in the first place. This is such a privilege to watch those Videos for free.
This is a delicate, tried-and-true process. I was not aware. I have to get a second cage as soon as possible to begin training. I hope eventually that they will share a large cage, after they are comfortable enough with me separately. These babies are far more delicate than I had imagined. Wish them luck, I'll do all I can learn from these videos. And thanks for them.
Hello bird nuggets I am getting a bird and you have helped me so much before I found your channel I didn’t know a thing about what I was doing know I can talk about birds for hours you have helped me learn so much.I really want to thank you and I will countine watching your videos when I do get a bird 🐦. I really want a budgie.thanks again!
I did have a mirror in the cage, also changed toys often. Both birds were let out everyday. Until the manager of the building said I couldn't let them out but told her where she could go.
Well...Maxie is my 5th budgie from when I was 10. I can't imagine a life without them. We have had mishaps and lost some, but they are ALL different personalities ! I learn more each day. And that keeps me enthralled with nature. 🎉🦜 ❤
Thank you 🎉my budgie Becomed my best friend
I have a budgie that I adopted who is 10 yrs old. He is very attached to his mirror and I would never take it away from him. He is a nice bird so I wouldn't want to upset him. I will keep it in mind for future birds.
Cause he is alone a mirror makes a bird go crazy i u love it u take the mirror and U spend time with him not the mirror
We had two budgies and a canary in the same cage. All found outside in our garden when I was a kid. The first budgie we caugh I called Jimmy I though she was a boy so I named her Jimmy. Jimmy used to scream at me and peck me hard. She lived on her own with our family and I used to clean her cage and feed her every day. I knew nothing about budgies I baught everything for her and let her peck my face hard and she eventually changed her bight to a kiss. Her toung would come out and lick my face. She started loving me to bits and come out her cage to fly over to me no matter where I sat in our living room. And when ever I come home she would tell me to open the cage and talk to her. It's a long story but she once flew away as my dad forgot the cage was open and he opened a window wide. My dad's friend said you won't get her back now she is free. I said leave her cage and open the window wider. She was far away on top of a roof so I called her and shook a box of seeds. Then I seen her flicker far away then fly back to me. She went in our window and cage. My dad and his friend was amazed and said I've never seen anything like it in my life. I just said she loves me and I look after her. I was pleased to see her come back.
Woah.. that's so amazing..
This was so helpful i got budgies recently and had no idea how to take care of them. Thank you for the advice!
What a fantastic video! So thorough and informative. Thank you!!!
I feel terrible. I adopted a rescue parakeet that is so frightened I can hardly do anything with her. I've had parakeets in the past but I've never had one this frightened of everything!!! I've always been able to gentle them and train them.I've never even seen this bird preen herself!! She sits in the same spot in the cage all day long!! I've never failed a bird before! 💔
I'm glad you rescued her, and I know she will grow to love and appreciate you as you give her a happy home with good things to eat ❤
since its a rescue it couldve been in a really bad home before so i think itll warm up to you
I’ve been experiencing the same. She hates my guts. I’m just continuing to be gentle and take care of it’s need. She chomped down in me HARD the first time I had to transfer her to a larger cage. She getting better.
how long have you had her? how is she now?
My cockatiel Luna flew out my door last month. I used to “discipline” her by blowing raspberries on her tummy and then gently placing her down on a perch. She never hated me, but she got the message haha. I miss her terribly but I know she’s flying free somewhere hopefully happily.
The best way to do this and its worked 100% for me always for 12 years now. Get them as babys about 2 months old not more (if you bought them at a store or breeder) everyday for 2-3 hours at seperate times put honey on your finger and put your hand in the middle of the cage. Do that for days to a month and it will work. I had 5 of them out of the 50+ that i would let fly outside and they always came back. This works for me and still does.
Thanks so much I’ve been binging your videos because I’m going to get two budgies
Early gaaang
You should call this video "no way your bird is untamed after watching this 40 minutes video" 😳 lol
As a newbie bird owner this is very helpful.

Tysm for posting this! I’m a recent subscriber and I have 2 budgies. After watching this I know my budgies will have a bigger bond with me!
Ok I tried bonding with my budgies but the thing is I don’t have the equipment. I don’t have a big cage of any toys. I don’t even have millet spray to feed my birds. I just want them to love me like your birds love you. Idk what to do
@@kiralindin4769 u can buy them or find people only selling a more wide than tall cage
Not sure about throwing away foods after a few hours because all the nutrients are gone...especially fairly dry ones like carrots. I have worked in zoos and although I was the reptile guy, I have never seen them worry about that and we definitely didn't change out food in between feedings for the omnivore herps. Excellent information overall, thanks!
What a cute budgie!!!
Visions cages are BRILLIANT!!!
thank you for offering so much detailed information. you're really making a difference in quality of life for so many of these birds
Excellent advice !!!!🙂🇬🇧
Guys my bird came to my hand after 5 days and hes 3 months old and i had him for 6 days now
I have more..
I got Maxie. An adult male (1yr. We think) from a local bird rescue 4 years ago. It's something I wanted to do this time. This is my 5th. So we never know where they were found, or what they've been through, but he was healthy- they check that. But they clip their wings. They are birds. They fly.
I don't beleive in clipping, so he's out all day, exploring and happy.
He immediately took over the TV, my computer keyboard and my phone for the first few days.
Last month he begsn sitting on my shoulder and nuzzling my neck for the first time, and comes around me when Im reading or watching TV.
But training? Whoa! Eating fresh fruits and veggies...no way! Touching? Nope. Stand on my finger? Not yet.
Its coming along. And I'm home mostly , but everyone must remember to be patient and it takes work, but worth every minute! Each one is different for sure. 🎉❤ 🦜
Think is exactly what I do. Bird trust is key! You have to remember they are small and we can humans can be scary. Best training and building trust with your bird I've ever seen! I always use a playground and millet. Its all about bird trust.
excellent advice! I agree with you 100 percent! Thank you.
18:12. I. Love how skippy was just staring into ur soul😂🤣♥💀 anyway i love your vids i convinced my dad to buy me a budgie and ive benn watching your vids❤so helpful thank you

Beautiful birds🎉
These birds are so sweet
You have helped me out a lot thank you 😊
I love Your channel❤ this really helped me tame my terrified birds! Thank you! 1:16
I had a budgie. I've had her for about a month and a half now, I've tried all of your taming methods, and nothing has worked. When I try the fingers on the perch method, she immediately flys out of her cage. While it may take a while, she'll go back into her cage on her own. She's not food motivated.
It took me a year to tame my bird. Take your bird to an avian vet. They have great packages on how to train and make a happy healthy bird
Thanks bro i just got 2 budgies recently and I needed to know this so now I tame them 1 at a time
Thank you for your help!

I have a question
What if you bring two budgies home together?
Then how can you tame it if you only have one cage
Please answeer if you can
I did that a week ago let thwm out to fly and use a stick they can step up on to get them in the cage
Use millets to get them close to u mine 2 already steps on my finger and flise to me when outside .
I inly have one cage
Thank you! I enjoyed watching! I have 2 questions.. What is the name of regular grains you give? And another question.. I mentioned that one blue bird blink much more often that others.. And then i saw a shaved tummy of this bird,, I also have one bird who blinks often and doctors and I can not find a reason. Do you know why it happens in your case? A shaved tummy was the reason of it? Hope to receive your answer!
My birds personality is the crazy and friendly bird😂
This helped me a lot because I have four buggies
it's interesting how one of Minecraft's random descriptions or add-ons you see on the menu is "Don't feed birds avocado!" as I didn't know that was actually the truth xD

Thank you, sir
Hi salvadar budgie i like your videos
I would like to build a large cage in my bedroom and host maybe a dozen budgies. Should I have a separate isolation cage for the one I am training and introduce them to the flock one at as time? I have read that buying birds that were raised together is the best idea so how do I purchase a group and then train them?
My 2 all I haft to do is open the cage in the morning to let them out and play all day and keep it open every evening between 6:30 and 7 o clock they go back into the cage on their own and wont come out again into the next morning. Still having a hard time training them I can get one to sit on my finger for a few seconds then jumps right off the other one cant get her to do anything.
A great video ☺️
i love your channel💘💘💝❤💟💕😍😘♥
What a brilliant video, my friend owns a wonderful pet shop, he sells fish, reptiles and has an aviary and several cages of different types of birds , he often takes in birds whilst their owners are on holiday, so the other day, I noticed a budgie in a cage on its own near to the Aviary and at first I presumed it was a holiday bird as he wasn’t in the aviary, when I walked away, he followed my movements in his cage, moving to what ever side I was, so I went back to him, and it was then I noticed the card, saying hand reared 9 month old budgie, and that he was for sale, I had brought a big cage a few months earlier as I my Dad had an aviary and we always had a budgie in the house, after giving it some thought, I decided to buy him, I asked if I could leave him there and pick him up at the weekend, so I could make sure I got everything ready, when I got home and looked at the cage, I realised it was extremely big and way too big to have in my main sitting space, but a great cage for him in the future, as I am moving to a much bigger house in the future, my friend had been offering him with the cage, I called and asked if I could still buy the cage he was in, my friend actually gave me the cage at a much reduced price and it’s a beautiful cage , and I felt it was nice for him to stay in familiar surroundings to begin with, I got him last Sunday and my intention was eventually to try and teach him to speak, he seemed to settle very quickly and was chatting to himself in the mirror and when I went up to the cage, he would come straight to where I was and I would speak to him, what I can’t believe is in one week he is saying “pretty boy” clever boy, “hello, I then decided to add in his name yesterday, and today he is saying “ pretty boy Skye”, the people in the shop hadn’t taught him to talk, and I named him Skye, is it normal for a budgie to learn to speak that fast?
What a bright bird,we were 7 in our family,he would sit on us but never spoke words! He spent a few days with our neighbors female bird who kept biting him every time he was near and after the female bird bit off her own leg at the knee joint they returned our bird.ps No babies. He never got close enough!!!She was one angry female!
@@Grandma_Ma I will post a video of him talking give me a few days
Our bird was found by grandpa in a puddle of gasoline and oil at a gas station He cleaned him up and brought Tippy to us from Ann Arbor to 8Mile and Mack our first PET!
Thank you so much!! Although my budgies can step up on my finger, there is 1 problem. When I get them to step up on my finger one day, the next day they just fear me. I encourage them to step up on my finger with millet everyday to gain its trust but then the next day I just lose their trust again. 😅 So I would like to know how to tame them without losing trust like halfway through. But keep up the good work!! ✨✨
Hey I have the exact same problem but lets keep trying ^^

This was such a fun video! I have a budgie pair and they are VERY hot for one another. They have not been tamed. I’m wondering if I should even try to let them breed.
I have a lutino lovebird. Is the process same or is it easier to tame budgies?
I got so much info from this video

Hey pls answer this I have two birds and I wanna teach them to trust me but you said doing tame 2 is there a way I can tame both or no?
Thank you a lot! This really helped me as I am getting a budgie. Watched all your videos, also what name should I name it? Just reply it. (My budgie will be a boy)
Hello, I watch your channel a lot and am asking for specific advice. 2 of my budgies are tamed as I've had them since they were around 1 month old, but one of them has past trauma from the breeder I got them from. I've noticed this has affected my budgie as she seems to space out and flinch or lean away and stare into nothing if I raise my finger above her to pet her, or if my hand is behind her. This is due to her seeing the breeders hand reach into the nest box and grabbing her for the first time and passing her around very quickly while other birds in the cage were screaming and flying around.. How do I help her overcome this? She is almost 7 months old now. She eats from my hand and steps up, but freaks out when my hand or finger goes above her head.
Hi
Older budgies need more patience, if she is in trauma from the breeder, try to keep your finger/hand at eye level and not above it.
This is very common for budgies, and because of that it is also likely that she won't like being pet at all and that's normal too, some budgies just don't like being touched.
my bird is a a crazy bird and naturally friendly
I have four budgies in a cage, I can separate them yes, but I'll have to grab them since their still untamed, but I don't really want to scare them... Or lose their trust... What should be done?
Hi I rly need some advice only one of my birds get on my hand without biting me so I decided to take him out but when I did there was no space for him to land so he was flying around the house very stressed not being able to land and ends up falling. 2nd is that my other bird never wants to cooperate and always bites anyone in there way any advice?
Hii! For the toys, what do you recommend? Many toys have string and bells… I don’t know what to choose. Please answer as fast as you can.
Tank you!
So how do I separate my second parrot so that I could train it?
i dont have millet but which one do you reccomend
My birds hate me even after 3 yrs i got them they hate me"accept the baby they just had"so ima see if this works
Any tips for when you have three untamed budgies in the same medium cage I don’t have anyway to separate them
Hey I want to know if millet spray expires
Bcuz I’ve had it for a year and quarter
I've been trying to train my budgie for over 2 months now, but haven't been successful. I've done everything you said but it doesn't seem to work out. What can I do? Btw thanks Kermit :)
Hey, did you end up managing to train your budgie?
We’ve got a lil 7-10 month budgie who we rescued from outside and no one would take him, he’s very nervous of hands and always ALWAYS bites if he thinks he’s been tricked into standing on your hand, he doesn’t like millet much, we’ve had him about 3 months and we’ve given him a lot of attention in that time, he hates us going in or near his cage and is only really friendly out the cage, as when he’s out the cage he loves getting near us and sitting on our phones or sitting on his treat, so any tips with getting him more accustomed to hands is much appreciated as we want the best for our new lil guy :)))
Hey how did you go? I had no luck with my budgie inside her cage but she is much more friendly outside.
Can anyone tell me where to get some of the cage door latches like the ones in the video?
14:29 o just got a parakeet and I don’t know what personality he has yet lol. I want a “energy bomb” tho😊❤
