I love my blood parrots. Their so damn adorable! Such peaceful little fellas. Stick up for themselves but yet some how manage to run the tank in their own way. I’ve got 2 together Wanda & haven’t named the new guy yet. I tried her w my flowerhorn Francis but he was pecking & she was allowing it so it was a no go.

I love Ranchu goldfish, but they came to me sick, everyone. I bought them at a Famous place. Heartbreaking to me when they would die. I had to stop getting goldfish. 😂 Are blood parrots healthier? I'm good w/ my water column, my current fish are great. Fancy goldfish are a hard fish, IMHO.

This is an old video, but I would love to hear how that worked out. My expectation would be the flower horn killed the blood parrot or they had to be separated.

OK This was seriously GREAT video. I'm perplexed how some people on YTB post instructional fish videos and have low energy, mumble, put me to sleep or are too aggressive and yell & even use profanities like that bozo "whazzup fish people!!" (you know who you are nitwit).. NOT YOU my friend.. you are calm and straight forward, good tone of voice, annunciation perfect, balanced video btw seeing you and the fish in the background (unlike that Florida plant guy who prominently displays his huge head in videos instead of plants that he's talking about ). Yes there are some people on YTB with the WEALTH of information like Co-OP Cory and for that we patiently go through his 1+ hour real-time rants that go on and on and on sometimes just so we can extract that 5min of some precious info we need but YOU my friend , you say everything important about parrots in 5 min and for that I THANK YOU SINCERELY ...

I just bought my first young red blood parrot cichlid last week. After four days of hiding behind the sponge filter in 40g tank by himself, he's finally coming out sporadically since I added some angelfish to the tank yesterday. That seems to have perked him up a little. He chases them if they start surrounding him. He's getting pretty brave but still hides behind rocks sometimes. I'm thinking of getting another blood parrot cichlid. My local Petsmart has them on sale for $8.49 which is a steal. I've read that two is not good since one can dominate the other. What do you think? Really nice fish...

That is NOT true. They are known for KISSING each other and from what I understand the BEST thing to put in with them....is another one of them. I have fthree coming my way for my 50 gallon tank. I have other tanks at hand for them if need be but I am going to put all of them in that one.

i found that if you add blood parrots to a tank with older ones then tend to hide a lot less my first one is very well mannerd, but he also holds his own when others try to fight him he is the king of my tank i have black convicts, african cichlids, yoyo loaches a red tail shark, a pleco, and 9 giant danios, and mine are also very much like a dog,Sam loves it when i enter the room and so do the other 3, but king Sam is by far my favorite, my blood parrots are weird they tend to break up fights which is the exact opposite of the one i owned as a kid "about 10 years ago"

I hear they do MUCH better when you have more than two together. They start becoming nicer. In my experience they are like cats.....I sometimes let my fish fight it out until they find which spots they are going to own. Cats are the same. Even if they like each other. You CLEARLY have to keep a VERY close eye on ANY fish that is fighting but I am telling you....Its worked for me. Specially with these guys. I have never had them kill each other. I have more coming in the mail. I gave some to my Dad (who fell in love)....Now I am waiting on more. I am putting three into my 50gal tank together. Any tips?

    Dear Ernie:
You made some, sweet choices for your 65-gallon tank. The blood parrot cichlid is a mixed-breed: (Amphilophus citrinellus x Paraneetroplus synspilus). The Thai Silk Flowerhorn Cichlid is also a mixed-breed: (Amphilophus Citrinellus and Cichlasoma Trimaculatum). I have five aquariums and like to breed my fish. I have fancy guppies (Poecilia reticulata) and Columbian tetra (Hyphessobrycon columbianus), which breed easily.
Thank you for another, terrific video.
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

I read the only way to stop tank aggression is to basically overcrowd the tank which takes away the right to be territorial.
Personally, I start with several babies and let them grow up together. I have 2 260 gallon tanks with 8 to 10 fish max. One has 8 blood parrots I bought as babies. They are WONDERFUL and social. Never had a problem and maintenance is a breeze.
