It was platinum Angel fish that got me into the hobby again four years ago but just discovered Red Blood Parrots ❤️. Now They are my top favorite. Such quirky personalities and seem to be intelligent.🥰
I have a beautiful blood parrot named “pretty girl” I had a tank meltdown and had to get a whole new set up… it was traumatic but she survived thank god. In the new tank I put Oscar’s, angel fish and a amur catfish. They all live in harmony thank god. The Amur and my parrot fish have the biggest personalities, it’s like they almost want to play with you when you walk in the room (I know they associate me with food) but I love it lol
I have a large blood parrot, Mobi. I love him. He knows me and can do tricks, following my finger. I have had him for nine years. I could care less he is a hybrid.
I had two blood parrots, a green terror, an Oscar, and a Jack Dempsey. 100 gallon tank and they were at the same size (juveniles). My two blood parrots were COMPLETE BULLIES and killed all the other fish. The pair are now about 6 inches long each and bully each other every day!! 😂
well I got 2 south american cichlid fish tanks and in one of them I got my 2 blood parrots my 3 electric blue Acara and then a pair of Severum Rotkeil and also one smaller female green terror cichlid the male was chasing her none stop in the other tank where I got normal blue Acara and firemouths and yeah I most say I have always looked abit down on blood parrots but when I bought 2 used aquariums those 2 blood parrots followed and I love them now they swim up to you and they love just swimming around and is just nice to watch
I'm planning on moving my 2 orange blood parrots to a largervtank, and also getting a yellow one. I have been trying to decide if i was going to get 2 or 3 acaras as well. Wasn't sure how they'd do together. Think I'm definitely going to try it.
Just added a blood parrot so my Oscar tank, and swapped their tank with my South African cichlids. It was the BIGGEST pain. But so far, no aggression towards the blood parrot from the Oscar.
Old video I know but…. Flowerhorns. I had 2 Oscar’s 2 parrots and a flowerhorn together. The Oscar’s stayed on their half parrots stayed on their half. And the flowerhorn protected the parrots whenever the Oscar’s stepped close to the parrots. Since flowerhorns are literally 50% parrot fish. They make good tank mates
Been wanting blood parrots for years but have been hesitant because of the things I’ve read about them having difficulty eating due to their breeding. I recently purchased a pair and they are absolute charmers. Their personalities are wonderful. So, can you address their eating issues, if any, and suggest which types of foods are best. I just purchased small cichlid pellets first as they are small and I figured that the small pellet shape would be best. Thank you and keep posting!
I will never have convicts again, you cannot stop them from breeding and they are terrors when protecting their fry. It's really interesting at first, but gets annoying quick.
So I have a 14 inch Oscar fish with a 4 inch blood parrot and I’ve had them for a year now it just really depends on the Oscar attitude as all oscars have different attitudes just like all other fish
I put 3 smaller blood parrot in with my 2years old oscars.. now the blood parrot became the new king in the pond.. but atleast they do not kill each other
Hey Palmer, plz help me with this.. I have 2 adult Oscars in my tank and they're 3+ years of age, now I'm planning to get a baby parrot and keep it in the same tank with a glass partition between the Parrot and the Oscars, once the parrot is big enough like 4-5"+ I will remove that glass partition and let them stay together.. what I feel is that by the time the parrot will get big, meanwhile they will get used to each other. do you think it's gonna work??
In my 55 gallon I have a blood part (young about 3.5 inches) with red ear slider turtle 2.5 yr old, a bunch of large glofish tetra and black skirt tetra
I made a mistake in thinking a blood parrot would go with my other cichlids. I am not a beginner hobbyist but by no means an expert. Had community tanks in the past and now I am scrambling to get another 55 gallon set up. I have a 17 gallon and a 55. I managed to not kill my other 5 fish from the tank not being cycled enough. More education on these aggressive fish is needed. My question is this. The 17 gallon is going to house the blood parrot and the smallest cichlid that is being bullied terribly. Both the blood parrot butterface, and little Livie Merkle are huddled together by the heater. Since Livey is so small about a third of butterface. Can they be together if it is just the two in the smaller aquarium???
My parrot is looking pretty pale and bored. The store only has baby cichlids and my fish is huge (1 year old), is it safe to put a little one in? How about those fish that suck on the glass? Just subscribed, good luck hitting 1,000
Subscribed!!!! I got one in with my red devils Jack Dempsey trimac and convicts lol. Not the best but trying to sell the devels and get a way bigger tank for my others.
I've had bad experience with acaras , they didn't do well at all with a green terror though. There baby green terror was attacked many times before I traveled him into another tank
I have two blood parrots, about 5 inches, with 3 very old black shirt tetras. thinking about buying a 3rd blood parrot, do you think they will bully the little guy, or let him be part of the fam in a couple weeks? 55 gallon, with a 120 gallon filter.
It's been 2 months since I got my first tank with two blood parrots and one severum cichlid. My problem is that they are too shy. Whenever I am around, they are always hiding and come out only to eat. My aquarium looks like it doesn't have any creature in it at all. What do I do?? Get tank mates? More parrots? Please help!! It's a 18 gallon tank.
@@vacuumblink2300 hey hey cool it, dude! I upgraded the tank long ago. How can you give such personal and strong statements without even knowing the person you are talking about!? How pathetic! Yes, tbh wave makers calm everything down if there’s tension because they’re to distracted trying to swim through the current. I have my blood with Oscar an angels and African an southern cichlids
I would get one oscar, but my question is if i get the oscar the same size as the blood parrot, wont they outgrow n eat them? I know the oscar grows quickly, n the blood parrots grow slower. Also i have 4 in a 60 gallon, could i add one oscar? I find the ciclids always hide, so im trying to get them out their shyness.
Oscars at max grow 1 inch a month, blood parrots at max grow around 1/2 inch per month, what i would do is create a chart to see how big they are in correlation to each other over the months
@@jonathonhackett3088 my blood parrots are now too big for me to have to worry about that lol but i cant get one no way since i also have tetra n corydora catfish in the tank lol
I had 4 electric blue acaras with 2 parrot cichlids. All 4 acaras died. Not all at once. Don't know what happened but my parrot cichlids are fine. I saw them chasing the blue acaras all the time. Don't know why.
I have one young blood parrot cichlid with a few angelfish. I'm thinking of getting another one but read that two is NG since one will usually dominate the other, so one will be miserable. Not sure about that. What do you think?
@@bren8k I would up getting a second one and they get along but the newer one seems to annoy the first one. The newer one always seems to swim up to him & give him a little head butt. It looks friendly but it's annoying..
That's exactly what the other one is doing. Kinda cute at first but I just grew tired of it seeing him do that as the other is having a hard time to eat. We bought a bottom feeder today to at least get its attention of the other. Hopefully it works.
So, severums are chill, and they can take a “beating”, but should they have to…? Lol jk. 🤣 and who knows what they could be experiencing mentally, if anything… even if it’s just stress, despite looking docile. They’re almost like discus in that sense, where they can be cohabitated with other species, but likely their best tank mates are gonna be small, dither-type or schooling fishes.
Wished you would print the name of fish you speak of other than that. (If you did I offer you my most sincere regrets) but just know I will have to live with my error for the rest of my life! ;-) I had two beautiful mature BPC but lost one due to my own ignorance :-( I still have the one of course but simply having one is not as much fun so I have decided to mix it up a bit. OOH more BPC's? I had to separate mine they got along better with a barrier between them but maybe 3 would nutrilize the aggression 🤔 Hmmmm
I have a bristle nose pleco and the parrot picks at him a bit when he is in the open but not when he's in the cave or under the log. May be good if you start with a small parrot

I have a polar parrot with my Oscars and 2 blood parrots. They are all happy as could be

#1 is legit, convict cichlids for the honorable mention though from me haha although they can be psycho asf when breeding

Do you have knowledge on mixing the different parrots together? Platinum, polar blues and blood parrots? Tia
I agree with you I love these guys there so cool n there personality is crazy

If I put a single blood parrot into a 40 gallon, how many gallons/inches of fish does that leave for adding tank mates that aren't blood parrots?
I'd only keep that parrot in the tank by itself. That would be a bit of a small space for your parrot and a fish friend.
Gallons per inch of fish is a crock that someone started and was debunked a long time ago. Don't believe it. It depends on so many things.

Could i keep one adult with another larger chiclid. Just one and one. or would they just fight. ive always kept these fish separate

You need dither fish--tetras, barbs, a school of peaceful fish swimming back and forth will encourage them to come out of hiding.
@@karenclaycamp9058 that's quite a beautiful and practical suggestion! Thank you so much :)
With those fish in an 18 gallon tank I suggest getting an FX6 or two and maybe put some wavemakers on each side. That should help!

Acaras need a pH around 7 - 7.5, blood parrots can handle a hugher range of pH. Might be the issue, but hard to know without water testing.
Was there a firemouths in with the parrots?
Can I keep corys with this fish?
I have 2 corys and he never bothers them, they just clean away and he leaves them be.
Can I keep Malawi chichlids with Parrot?
Can bichir go with blood parrots?
My oscar bullyed my blood parrot. Had to seperate them.
Will this fish eat my smaller fish ?
