I have 2 OG bloods and they are a hoot! I can definitely see these getting more and more popular because they give you the colors and personality of larger American cichlids without the damage potential.
It'd be sweet if someone managed to breed them with Apistograma as they already are a hybrid of several genera of south american chichlids. Maybe drop them down to 2-3" and even more peaceful? I doubt they would breed naturally, but hybrids are usually produced by stripping eggs and molt rather than breeding naturally.
Thank you for this video. I have a friend looking to rehome his 2 blood parrots. I have a tetra school, rainbow shark and a convict cichlid. This was very informative as to pros/ cons. After having convict cichlids (which originally impressed us bc of how interactive they are) we swore them off. But at least now i know it's an option to marry my community with his 2. Merry Christmas to you!
@@mattburke9554 They are not hybrids- they are a deformed short body honduran red point. They are just marketed as a parrot but they actually are not a parrot fish at all.
Thank you I appreciate that! As far as the all white parrots they are very similar to Polar Parrots. For those I use the following points to tell the difference. Keep in mind it is difficult until you have both a male + female in the same tank and can clearly see mating behavior. - Nuchal hump will indicate a male. - The female is smaller than the male, and the body of female is more "cichlid" than the male. The "parrot beak" is more obvious for the male. - If you have one of each gender then you will likely know after a few months as they pair up and breed very easily.
@@TheAquaticCoder Thank-you for the Info… These Fish are Cool.. & they also dont get Very Big.. like Oscar’s & Red Devils..They Tough as Well.. thanks again..😀

If they are all parrotfish and you have the space, yes. The malformed mouths prevent too much aggression and they enjoy the company. They may even breed :).
Blood Parrots yes they can in most cases. For Polar Parrots it depends more on the aggression of the individual Parrot. Overall I think yes and I have had no issues. Keep in mind if you get unlucky and have an aggressive parrot it wouldn't work
I don't sell them. I will be selling Polar Parrots starting in the spring. For Blood Parrots they can usually be found at Petsmart or local fish stores. Some stores always carry them and others not often. I would just look for a store that has colorful active ones
Oh I love the blue one I have the bright orange I have about 10 of them and I just bought me a kind of like a cream white with a little black on his head …they are so amazing I allways Go up to the tank and they’re ready to eat I put my fingers in my hand and I get the hold them that’s amazing when I first done that… How can you tell a female from a male they look all the same to me
I didn’t realize panda parrots were a bit rare. My LFS gets them in every couple months. I bought one a couple months ago from my LFS & they’re doing great (just can’t tell if male or female, though my OG blood parrot ((also don’t know sex)) seems to be accepting of the panda)
Around me they are pretty rare but tiger parrots are more common. It probably depends on the stores connections and what their sources have access to. Glad to hear they are doing great! I didn't know my Blood Parrot's sex until they paired up.
I see a whole bunch that have them in stock within the US that ship. Just search "buy polar parrot online" on Google. If you are in another country I'm not sure of the availability
I've never kept Parrot cichlids and probably wont ever but those King Kong's might change my mind if I ever saw one in a shop for sale, it would be hard to walk out of the shop without picking one up, they are beasts!
The heart parrots are a tailless form like the meteor goldfish. Many species produce tailless forms but they are usually culled. The thai love breeding weird morphs though especially through artificial breeding. So we get weird stuff like that.

Cheers for the vid 🙂 Literally just come home with a white tiger parrot - cool fish getting chased around by my severum as we speak but he looks like he'll be able to hold his own.
Cheers! I hope you enjoy your parrot. They are pretty quick so he should be fine. Hopefully he doesn't try to fight the severum since the severum would probably win
Blood parrot is the pug of cichlids: a grossly deformed, disgusting freak. I got rid of the pair immediately I got my hands on the aquarium at my work.
When comparing them to goldfish, which have compacted organs, shortened, curved spines, and other features that limit their movement, ability to see, and live a quality life, they don't look that bad. Really, they're usually a hybrid product rather than being actively being bred to look a certain way. They can move quite well, tend to have an increased intelligence, and are lower in maintenance side of the aquarium. The mouth is small, but it proves advantageous with smaller tank companions and makes it so that smaller particles of food enter the stomach, instead of gigantic chunks. Unlike the goldfish, they can live a decent life and aren't broadly affected by the deformities. You can argue that they're typically hardy because of the mix of traits.

There are lots more varieties than I ever realised, some real stunners ... Hope to see them come on to the market as I'm sure they will be popular
I agree, I'd love to see more varieties in stores.

Nah polar parrots aren’t more aggressive than blood parrots their a pretty passive breed. Their just extremely protective over their fry.

Do the jellybean parrot keep the colors?
No they usually fade pretty significantly as they get older. They probably will have a tint of the color but overall be pretty dull in color.
excellent video, great narrative. just what i was looking for to decide on selection ! nice work !

I have been having difficulty finding jellybean parrot fish can you provide a website that can help me with this
Yeah I don't see them in stores very often. Looking at online stores I know I see them on Azgardens right now
Just got a platinum parrot to hang with my dojo loaches and electric blue acara. Its basically hanging with the blue acara and copying their behavior.
We have all of them for regular sale in thailand EXCEPT for the red head parrot :)
Can anyone tell me if I can put a red tiger in with blue tiger and yellow parrotfish? I’d like to mix them all but unsure if it’s possible. Thanks

yes
They have them at aqualand in Minneapolis just seen the heart ❤️ one
