Seriously though!! You can do live feeds with them easily!! Also that have no problem with blood worms, they love them!! He is wrong about so many things it’s sad because people who don’t know better will believe him!
ethical concerns notwithstanding, i love blood parrots tbh. they are super personable, they have such great personalities and i think they're just adorable.
Just got my first order from the co-op yesterday. Your customer service is second to none!! Thanks for everything you've done for the fish keeping hobby Corey and team!!
Thanks for giving the Derp some love. I keep 3 different types...Standard Blood Parrot, King Kong, and Red Ingot. They all do great in my new planted 115.
Had 3 together in a 125...the aggression is real. I had a male and two females and they formed a pair & did lay infertile eggs about 4 times. The third parrot had to stay on the far sides of the aquarium. The last female was 15+ years & very personable. She always knew where I was in the room and would be watching and following best she could. I was more sad for her then most after she passed. Like a little puppy.
“They don’t really dig a lot” To everyone watching, yes they do dig a lot. It’s a way for them to make their own territory. If you own a blood parrot, please give it sand.
Alex Alex? You Yes, some do that, and that’s good that they can adapt like that, however, there is always a risk of them choking, as well, as some of them ram their head into the ground, since they may not use their mouth to pick up the gravel, which can result in damage
@@xXdutchieeeXx You don't have a Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply, or ANYTHING similar around you? 20/40 pool filter sand and coal slag (Black Diamond Blasting Sand) work fantastic when used as sand and it costs between $5 and $10 for a 50lb bag.
I used to have one that enjoyed eating ghost shrimp by pining them up against the glass. I love these fish, so much character. Thanks for putting them in the spotlight!
Since you asked for ideas on future topics, I would like to see a show on what types of rocks and what they do to the water parameters and also types of woods for freshwater tanks. I have come to hate Dragon Stone due to the flaking. Love your videos and all the tips you give!
I really love these guides! Life happened, with family and all wonders it comes with, so now I starting to build up my knowledge of keeping fish again. Been away from this hobby for several years now, feels like I'm back on square one... More of these guides please!
Hi Cory. Last video you mentioned only 1 in 10 products you test make it into your shelves. Myself along with other people would love to see you review these products into a video. I've seen many RUclipsrs- not necessarily fish RUclipsrs test products on there videos- which get a lot of views. Just a recommendation, otherwise keep doing what you're doing. Wish we had such a good store in CT
Sounds interesting. Maybe a bi-quarterly review guide explaining some of the newer products that have come your direction, pro's, con's, etc. I'm sure this is asking much though. You have a ton on your plate with all the production and material you release as it is. But maybe one of your employee's could put that together for you...
I have two .. got them when juvies.. and they get along great... now about a year old and are awesome fish.. they do love to have caves to hide and sleep in. I am glad u gave the BPs some love ..
I have juvenile Red Parrots, they have had no problem eating. They eat pellets, baby shrimp and blood worms without issue. I absolutely adore my babies they are funny to watch and have huge personalities.
Love how they hunt for shrimp! And it Live food! I’ve had many that sleep under rocks and will lay on its side and sleep or hide. Great personalities! Always live plants!
Cool Topic and Cool Fish ! I have kept several in past.. They get to a good size and live a decent time.. Mine were all over 8 years.. In optimal conditions, I believe several years longer is very realistic.. They are comical fish with great personalities.. Happy New Year !!
I honestly wouldn’t keep one in a 29 because my standard blood got up to 8 inches. 3 in a 55 seems like really a stretch considering how big they get even if you do a bare tank. These fish do not stay small
We just got a big aquarium in the front lobby where I work and there are 8 of these fish. The first week, whenever I went near the tank, they would all zip to the back of the tank and hide behind stuff….then peek out at me. Now, when they see me, they all come come right up to the glass….they seem like curious little puppies! So adorable. I’ve noticed they also all look slightly different, especially their eyes. Some have bigger irises, one has eyes that are all black. There are also a lot of black skirted tetras in the tank, and someone told me that the parrot fish would eventually start eating them. I hope not.
Love them! Had them with some livebearers (Mollys and Platys) which it schooled with 🤣 It clashed with Electrick Blue Acara some times. But it was mostly to chase him away from its territory. Cool personality!
All mine do is dig! They are constantly building up rocks. I had 3 in a 55 gallon with a algae eater. Now only 2. I think one female and other is male. When I had three they all got along but would always be 2 together then the third wheel off to the side. Lol..i love having them. They are real sweet when they come up to the glass. Mine will bang the tank lid when they want food. Lol...they will peck at your hand tho if you stick it in the water. When I have to move something in the tank I have to use a bowl lid to shield my hand. I have gotten pecked good a couple times. It just freaks me out. It's not a bite but it's odd. I have had mine for 4 years now. When I got them they were a totally different color. They are really neat fish. Everyone that comes over always goes to the tank and looks at them.
Blood parrots actually do eat other Fishes :/ (smaller) even snails 👀 And they can actually hurt other fishes, especially other blood parrots, this can also stress them and could lead to death, this can happen in just one day i guess if it keeps happening, i felt bad for my blood parrot had to move out the two bullies to another tank. Also, make caves for them its really important, pipes are good especially if there color black in the inside, makes them feel safer. They do make like sands cause they can dig in it, but its not that important tbh as long as they have that cave like stuffs to hide in to Always take note that if ur willing to buy ur blood parrot a companion or partner like other blood parrots always consider having a plan what to do if they dont get a long, i found this out the hard way, and my blood parrot was harmed and stressed in the process :c Blood parrots are Aggressive fishes, but not all since they do have different personalities, but always have a plan what to do to the other if they dont get along
I've not kept them. I sit on the fence with whether I like them or not, like I do with Glo Fish. I do like genetically altered (i.e. selectively bred) fish, such as long fin Plecos, etc., but that's about my limit. And, I actually think that True Parrots are a beautiful fish, so don't fully understand the deforming of them. Their color is nice, and that brings up another issue, injecting them with dyes. They look awesome Cory, especially with the Loaches. Happy New Year to you and yours!
The issue with deformed fish like blood parrots is that these fish suffer a lot under their deformations. Blood parrots cannot eat, swimm, communicate, breath and reproduce like the original species of that fish. Glofish or fish with slightly longer fins don't suffer from their modifications.
Deformed mouth, sure. But at least for mine, that didn't stop my parrots from devouring our neons, otos, amano shrimps, and snails. They've even managed 2" grasshoppers, no problem. They eat peas, kidney beans, lima beans easy peezy. They never seem to struggle with their food and outcompete everything else we have in our tank (pushing/shoving).
Your right I have a 55 that houses 3 I thought I could get away with housing 4 but better not to risk overstocking the tank but I would say 3 parrots at max for a 55 they have plenty of room depending on shape of tank
I got one recently and when I get him home my wife says he looks like he's always 😃. Don't regret getting him. He's currently in my 48 bow front with a few swordtails, a coocoo catfish, and a common plecco for now. I definitely want to get him a friend.
I have two females. They are around 13 years old now. They like to make a mess of their substrate, digging holes and building hills with it. They do not get along with any other fish as they always try to eat them/bully them. There is only a large high-fin Pleco living with them now ... it's the only fish that seems to keep them in their place. They are neat fish, but you really have to watch them with other fish because sometimes they just really aren't that nice lol
They are so cute!! I was at a pet store today and I saw one, and I was saying hello. It seemed like he wanted to be pet, but I was playing with him through the tank window!
I wish I could call you. I have a 55g with a 6inch Raphael catfish, two 5in clown loaches, and 2 corydoras. I've fallen in love with the CUTEST blood parrot who's been at our LFS for months now. I wanna bring him home but I don't know if he'd be a good fit for my tank.
