      Cutting background fabric can be especially not fun!...there's usually the most of it and it tends to be the least jazzy print. =)

    Oh, my gosh! No WONDER I thought I might want to do your quilt along!!!! I LOVE your organisation!!!! Somehow, you hit upon the exact way that I think! With most patterns, I have to completely reinterpret them into my way of thinking, then, after making notes, I begin the cutting, etc. Several times, patterns have been thrown across the room, never to be seen again!!!! Thank goodness, my wonderful grandmother agreed to teach me how to sew when I was 5 (My mom had a kitchen full of potholders!!!!), and that I began with Vogue clothing patterns, so beginning quilting was a breeze, and for most traditional quilts, I can just look at them and cut/sew! Thanks--in many ways, you make things MUCH easier for me--and probably everyone else, too! If I were to ever write a pattern, I will definitely remember your way of organisation, and give you full credit for your brilliance!

    I think I have everything on order and will be ready to go once everything is received. This will be a challenge for me. I think I will be starching and see if I can improve my results. My last project suffered greatly from things shrinking during ironing. Hopefully light starching will help with that. Can’t wait.

    This video was very timely. I starched my fabric, and because I use foundation paper for HST and flying geese, I need to have a blended system. I love to precut my fabrics, and I’m going to take your suggestion about cutting strips. I put the pieces for each block on a design board and label with the letter. Then I can just sew. I love your QALs and so looking forward to this project. Thank you for the tips.

    I have to admit that I have already make the Cuddle Up Sampler. My favorite quilt shop asked me if I sew it up to put on display. It's going there tomorrow! It turned out adorable! I cut all my background stripes and labeled them. Then I subcut them as I worked the blocks. Then for the "pretty" fabric, I started with a block and cut each fabric per the pattern, labeled it. I did cut all the pieces and labelled them if they were for another block. Hope that made sense. But I love the idea of the cardboards to keep them organized! So much fun!!

    So your stash that huge. Now you have to stoll it away everywhere in the house. Is this the reason you stopped using the magazine boards?
    This quilt along looks like a lot of fun. I wish I had the time to sew again.

    • @CorianderQuilts
      @CorianderQuilts  4 месяца назад +1

      The magazine boards work great for smaller cuts of fabric but not as well with larger cuts of fabric. Because I receive several yards of each fabric I design, I needed to come up with a different storage method. I've found folding them and laying them on the shelves works great.

    • @CorianderQuilts
      @CorianderQuilts  4 месяца назад

      For this pattern, you don't need to purchase additional fabric if you wish to starch. For other patterns, it really depends on if the pattern writer has given enough overage to allow for pre-starching/pre-washing....ideally that is the case but it can't always be counted on. Another thing to keep tucked in the back of your mind is to always check about pre-starching pre-cuts (fat quarters, fat eighths, layer cakes, charm packs etc.). Pre-cuts don't always allow for pre-starching.

  • @AvivaHadas

    I would love to know why you no longer store your fabric on boards. How do you store it now. I've seen "Corey Yoder" fabric behind you in previous videos, how/where do you store other fabrics? Do you still find time to sew with non-coriander Quilts fabrics? Do you mix them? (I have the opposite of a storage "system" but am intrigued by what others do, did, or want to do in the perfect scenario.)

    • @CorianderQuilts
      @CorianderQuilts  4 месяца назад +1

      I receive several yards of each fabric that I design...those larger cuts don't work on the magazine boards. They work great for smaller cuts. I do have other non-Corey fabrics but a large portion is my own fabric. I was just sewing with Tilda fabrics over the last month (a little bit of that snuck it's way into some of the videos but not much). =) I really just need to do a sewing studio video...it's been on my agenda for a couple years I think and I just never get to it!
