Great information. Nice to hear how you how you make your border strips straight across. Making them in the diagonal always seems so wasteful to me even though I keep the triangle scraps.
Great to know why you like to use a batting on a quilt with a Minky back. I really appreciate your Q&A videos. I also love your tutorials and sew alongs. I especially liked the Scrappy Irish Chain sew along from a few years ago. I actually want to make another one that I hope to figure out a way to strip-piece to complete it faster and to control the colors more. That's a question for your Q&A's: I would love to have your thoughts on how to accomplish that.
Thanks Corey for the great video as always! I'm a die-hard Buckeye too. Grew up in Tiffin, Ohio but have lived in Iowa the last 27 years. I wear my Ohio State clothes with great pride!
Corey, I sew enjoy your Q & A videos plus the ones showing pattern how-to's & what ideas you envisioned with each line of fabrics. You say it straight, no extra fluff to answer the question & you are straight forward about organizing ans stitching patterns together. Many thanks!
You're so welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful. =) Thanks so much for watching. I always think these Q&As are fun---people ask things I wouldn't have thought about!

Thank you for another informative Saturday video! All of the questions and your answers were great! Appreciate you and all you do for the quilting community.
Good Sunday Morning Corey!! Watched your video while out on my husband’s boat yesterday and loved hearing the tips and always your beautiful enthusiasm 😊 I store my fabrics by designer in gallon size bags if I have a lot from that particular line and mark the bags. It really helps me a lot! My hubs made me a few years ago a huge sewing table and cubicles underneath and I asked him instead of using my ironing board just recently if he could help me make a big ironing board to lay on top of it when I need it to iron huge pieces of fabric and borders and I also made little boards with canvas fabric to set my iron on while I’m ironing and what a difference!! So easy to make! I can even lay it even between my sewing table and sewing cabinet the hubs also made when putting binding on my quilt. Huge quilts are so weighty and keeps the the quilts from hanging over on the ground but up and off the floor! Sorry, so lengthy but hope this can help others on here too! Been here in Ohio (actually grew up as a Hoosier girl) for almost 18 yrs now and just got back from camping in Berlin, OH which we do every year. Love it there❤️🧡💛 Thanks for your time as always and bought my Juki last year at Lone Star Quilts over in Berlin and never looked back. Love it!!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for answering my border question. I have watched the video today since I purchased a new phone and needed three days of help to get it up and running. You did fine with my last name. Velebir, the it is pronounced ur. That’s how my late husband’s family pronounce it. I’m making all of my borders straight cut WOF. Once quilted they look great.
Hi Corey, I love your designs and watching your videos, they are so and beautiful. QUESTION how do you decide what pattern and colour thread to use when quilting your quilts? I never know whether to pick a colour of thread that will stand out or try to go for something more neutral.
Love your videos! QUESTION: This was asked previously and may been lost. I rotate my quilts according to season. I’m curious how you store your quilts and how you avoid creases. Do you fold on the bias?
Hello Corey, I always enjoy watching your videos. You are always so cheery and filled with a lot of good and interesting info. Your quilts are always beauties too.
Happy Saturday, thanks for the fun and interesting video, always learning something new. It's nice to find a quilter who will take the time to answer questions. The orange in the Tilda fabric is not as bright and beautiful as your orange, just sayin', you know I love your fabric colors above any others.
Loved this Q & A session, especially when you broke down yardage calculations. Great questions! Thanks for showing the On A Roll Again book. As soon as I saw the cover I remembered that I have the book. I had to search but I found it. I had the book kitted up in a tub with Maureen McCormick's Flower Power fabrics. I had also bookmarked the Pretty Frames page. Woo-hoo! 😄
Just received my Abloom patterns, and noticed your updated format for the back of the patterns. LOVE IT! Think this will be very helpful info for quilters to have.
Thank you, Corey, for answering so many interesting questions. I always learn something valuable from you. And I am an Ohio girl. Born in Wooster, and lived in West Salem all my growing up years. "Field trips" to Berlin, New Hope, Millersburg, etc. were always great!
Hi from an Ohio-adjacent fan (Erie, PA)! Thanks for talking about the wide backing! That was interesting information! 😊 I do both WOF and LOF borders. For me it depends on the print and how noticeable seams will be. For large scale or plaid prints I prefer LOF. For example, I used one of the large scale floral prints from Starberry as a border and I didn’t like how the seams look, so I did them LOF!
Thank you Corey, i so enjoy your videos…as always your a delight, your patterns are fun and so pretty and i adore your fabric…. Thank you for bringing us content
very useful information today. Many thanks. I have begun making scrap quilts...potato chip quilts and such. When I am tired but want to sew, I make a block. Crazy as it sounds, I use the same method for the quilt backs. These can be charity quilts or I have found that many people love the look of these small pieces.
I just happened across your video and wanted to let you know I thoroughly enjoyed it! I had to subscribe to keep up with your content and projects. Thanks, from the sunny South!
I always store scraps by color because when I want to do a scrappy quilt I have a good mix of designers and great mix of prints and solids that look so delish together. I also like to scrappy collect certain designers because they have so many lines that tend to mesh together on purpose or not. I love it. I have yet to make a scrappy quilt because I am still collecting.
Question: You have so many of your beautiful precuts behind you. I’ve noticed many designers have them, do they ever get used, or do you keep them as a record of your fabric lines? I’d be itching to break into them 😅
Hi, Corey! I do have a question that I think other quilters may have. When I want to add a border (to either "frame" my quilt or to make it a little larger), is there a rule on how large to make the border? An example would be to make the inner border the same size as the sashing and then add a border twice the size of the inner border. I love your videos and always learn something!
That was a great question on how do you name patterns and lines. Very interesting. I am so greatful of the lines that have 108s. Having to buy 5, 6, 7 + yards for a backing versus the average 2 1/2 yards of a 108, I prefer the 108.
So im rewatching this video because i got interrupted the first time. A question came up about quilting with panels, i love the info Corey gives when working with her panels. If its allowed, I'd also like to share a book by Shannon Arnstein "quilting with panels and patchwork." If you need help with panels this might help. Enjoyed thise video
I always round up to the full yard if pattern asks for 1/4 or 3/8, etc. If a pattern asks for 2 or 3 or 4 and so on I get 2 1/2, 3 1/2, etc. gives me starching and oopsie room. Corey I love your fabrics and patterns. I think I am going to try to use minky backing.
Great video! I wondered how many people use the excess fabric used when long arm quilting (I have a grace qnique 15) for binding. I find it perfect because it’s already length of fabric on all 4 sides and there is always enough. It’s my way of justifying all that extra fabric! I don’t always because sometimes you want a different binding color but I was curious.
Roll on November... I have my eye on a layer cake of Cali & Co. And I know I am getting abloom with fqs mystery designer bom, already reserved. I know the quilt I have planned for Cali, I had pattern, just not fabric. Am so excited.. Hugs, Chel 🌸
Can you please show your ironing board? Where did you get it? It is so hard to find an ironing board big enough for ironing yardage. Love the genuine content!! Thank you for the inspiration and willingness to teach your knowledge!!
Hi Cory. I always look forward to your videos ❤. You discussed how you store and clear scraps from your scrap bins in your Q&A video and I was just wondering if you have ever considered selling scrap bags in your Etsy shop?
Question & comment, I trim scraps (I buy & make scraps too.) to 2.5 square and sort them light, dark, medium. And strings for spiderwebs sorted warm, cool, neutral/other. Everything goes in those “systems.” As a fabric designer, do you segregate your prints from others. If you were not a designer, but a collector of Tilda and not Tilda, would you segregate Tilda since it is “different.” (Same thoughts go through my head with civil war, etc.)
Question: When you use Minky to back a quilt, do you need to starch or prewash the quilting cotton to manage the difference in shrinkage when the quilt is washed?
Hi Corey! Question(s): I am thinking about publishing and selling patterns for some of my quilts online. What tips do you have for (1) making sure that the pattern instructions make sense to others; and (2) promoting my patterns. Also, do you have any words of encouragement to share for those who might feel like their patterns may not resonate with others because they might be different from what's already out there?
Hi Corey, Ohio girl her by way of PA and CA. great video for some extra tips!! I struggle with my scrap organization, but have recently switched it all to colors, and that seems to be working out. My question is on steaming. I love love love to steam. However, so many irons will start spitting or dribbling water and all of a sudden you end up with a discoloration. As I sit here, I can count 5 irons. And I love them all, but am so afraid to use steam because I don’t want to cause any issues. And they are really getting expensive. Also, please provide any tips and tricks you have for steam. Thanks so very much!!
I love your videos. I use a longarm and everytime I quilt using fleece for the backing, it puckers a lot. I've tried putting the grain 1 way and the cotton top the opposite way. But they still pucker. I don't know what else to do
Fleece is tricky...I almost think it's stretchier than minky but I can't say for sure. I used it once on the back of a quilt that I straight line machine quilted. Maybe some other long arm quilters can weigh in as I don't have experience with fleece from a long arm perspective.
Anyone else drool over the stack of fabric yards in the back ground? :) Love all your work and content! Thanks.
Thank you so much!...I love what I get to do and it's so much fun to share. =)
Oh Corey, we love you and thank you so much for helping us. You are a wonderful woman and quilter and designer.
